Two snowstorms will rapidly follow each other from the Midwest to the Northeast from Dec. 12-14, with the second likely to hit major Northeast cities with their first significant snow this winter.
00:00We have very cold air moving east across the upper Midwest and into the east eventually at the end of the weekend.
00:07But even before all this, we've got Lake Effect snow in progress right now.
00:11Over a foot of snow in isolated areas into the heart of the snow belt there.
00:16Parts of Chautauqua, Cattaraugus Counties in that bubble, 6 to 12 inches on a widespread scale near Jamestown, New York.
00:22Two clippers. Clipper number one is in progress right now, continuing to push south through parts of southern Minnesota.
00:29Iowa and into Illinois right now.
00:32And that one is going to be followed by, wait for it here, this one is going to be followed by another one.
00:38Now the first one is in a weakening phase.
00:41In fact, in the forecast feed a little bit later on, we're going to talk about why this clipper will not produce more than snow showers or flurries to the east.
00:49You can see a few sprinkles and flurries mixed near Richmond.
00:51And why the other one will actually be strengthening as it rolls east of the mountains.
00:55We'll look at the dynamics aloft upstairs to show you why this one is not going to evaporate as it closes on the coast, but actually re-strengthens.
01:03We're looking at accumulating snow in Philadelphia, into Baltimore, D.C., and most likely New York City.
01:08Again, this particular depiction here may be a little slim up there in Boston,
01:13but there are some indications we'll probably see at least an accumulation in Boston as well.
01:18So clipper number one moves through the eastern Ohio Valley and the interior mid-Atlantic tomorrow.
01:25And then on Saturday afternoon and evening, clipper number two follows on its heels.
01:30Here it comes.
01:31And again, clipper number one doesn't produce much east of the mountains,
01:36but clipper number two brings a similar stripe from Sioux Falls to Peoria,
01:40one to three inches of snow right on top of the pre-existing one to three and three to six inches that we're facing right now.
01:46And then this one cranks out pretty good snow into the area of southern Ohio, West Virginia,
01:51southwest PA near Washington County, Garrett County, Maryland, three to six inches,
01:54one to three inches in Philadelphia, one to three in New York.
01:57We're going to hedge closer to one in Boston.
02:00And there's potential for maybe a few localized areas of three plus from approximately Lebanon, PA,
02:05to around Jim Thorpe, maybe Allentown as well.
02:08And as we've been discussing, some have seen a great start to the snow season,
02:12Richmond, Virginia, Chicago, South Bend, but in Boston and New York and Philadelphia,
