00:00in tonight's forecast feed we are jumping in on winter mode across much of
00:07the north central northeastern u.s. at least sniffing out opportunities for
00:11snow for some we're gonna be dealing with a little bit of high elevation snow
00:15into New England but also as we step into the second half of the weekend and
00:19Sunday into Monday there are areas in the Midwest even in lower elevations
00:25where you might see a little bit of early season snow so we have some
00:29things to look forward to here if you like this kind of thing and as we look
00:32at the first storm system here quick moving storm for Wednesday this is
00:36going to be another cold front and it'll in some cases and some ways resemble what
00:40we had on Halloween into the first of the month Friday into Saturday with we did
00:46see some accumulating snow you've maybe seen some of the footage on AccuWeather.com
00:50and on perhaps the AccuWeather app some of the video we've been showing it on the
00:55AccuWeather network as well of some wintry landscapes so with parts of the
01:00Adirondacks covered in snow in the high ground at least an inch or two now in
01:05J Vermont we're looking at the potential for a one to three inch snow event here
01:09on Wednesday afternoon evening and into early Thursday morning we'll look at the
01:13computer models here to give you a little more context in a moment but you
01:17can see actually there is between the one to three and the three to six we're
01:21forecasting about a 78% chance that we see an inch plus between these two
01:29different bounds plus the small small chance we exceed a six inch event there
01:34in J Vermont let's go into Wilmington New York and this is where we did see some
01:39accumulating snow over the weekend as well and here we have a slightly more
01:43modest but similar forecast with most likely one to three inches of snow here and
01:48if you look at the one to three plus three to six plus six plus inches between
01:53the three of them actually it is a slightly more robust chance that'd be
01:57what a 77 plus 10 to an 80 77% chance 77% chance there that we exceed an inch of
02:06snow in Wilmington New York now it's going to be windy as well and as this front
02:11kicks through the winds are going to really reorient themselves going to be a
02:14blustery cold winds here blowing so as we draw these wind streamlines behind the
02:19front we're going to see gusts of 50 to 60 miles per hour in Albany Boston Portland
02:24Burlington even Buffalo maybe even New York City there with some strong winds we
02:29want to take you out of this in computer models here and as we take a look at one
02:33example here we can see the GFS model here's this trough for this first front on
02:39Wednesday night into Thursday morning and you can see a pretty pronounced dip in the
02:43jet stream here it's a fairly sharp one and there is a slightly negative tilt
02:47here I'm kind of connecting the dots between the lowest point of the trough
02:50there it's going to become a big blast of chilly air that rolls in but most of
02:57the moisture will precede the actual cold air so a lot of this is going to fall as
03:03rain ending is a little bit of snow in the mountains now this product here shows
03:07us this the freezing level how many feet above sea level in thousands do you have
03:12to travel before you get into freezing air and you need to go for say the
03:16Poconos 8,000 feet up on Wednesday morning to get to 8,000 feet above sea
03:22level to get to the freezing level well our mountains there around 2,000 feet in
03:26most cases maybe 22 2,400 feet so again it's rain there in the Poconos but on the
03:30backside of the storm Wednesday night you can see some of those bright yellows and
03:34that's where you get down to two to three thousand feet for the elevations at
03:38which you're gonna begin to see some snow and they bottom out even lower than
03:42that Thursday morning so with any residual moisture we're gonna see some
03:46snow out there but take a look at what goes on when we go way out into the
03:50weekend behind this next front we're gonna see some pretty nippy air Monday
03:55morning if you're down in the that teal color then you have freezing weather all
04:00the way down to sea level so basically all areas in the Ohio Valley will be cold
04:05enough for snow on Monday morning if if there's any precipitation around so here
04:09we have the model depiction a few of them rain ending in some snow now that
04:14deep blue some of this is color-coded with the temperature at the end of a
04:19six-hour window and some of the precipitation that falls in that six-hour
04:23bin will actually come down as rain ending as snow so we're not gonna see a
04:27widespread thump of snow but you get the idea that we're gonna see rain ending
04:31as a little bit of snow here in most areas here across the high elevations of the
04:34Northeast Wednesday night Thursday morning let's take it to the next front
04:37Friday night rain and I will have some chilly air behind that but behind that
04:43front there's another front for Sunday this one has more limited moisture but
04:48it actually has more cold air in place and in this case we're gonna see a
04:52little rain change over to some snow in more areas here's another depiction of
04:56that you could see this probably more accurately characterizes the amount and
05:00type of precipitation and again Sunday morning there's some rain there in
05:03Cleveland Ohio ending with some rain ending is a little bit of snow there in
05:07some areas but by Monday morning the front will be through and any residual
05:12moisture that falls could bring us a little bit of snow including all the way
05:16down into the spine of the southern Appalachians and even into areas maybe
05:20near Louisville Kentucky or parts of Ohio you'll see a little bit of snow out
05:23there and perhaps a little bit of lake enhanced or lake effect snow in some
05:28areas where the flow aligns over some longer fetches of Lake Michigan now as
05:34we look at the GFS model just one example of snowfall you could see the
05:39first round Wednesday night Thursday morning you can see some well Mount
05:43Washington might see seven inches of snow that might actually happen there but
05:460.7 out near Burlington Vermont that's feasible and then we take a look at
05:51forward in time here into the next one not much moisture behind the front on
05:56Friday night but we're a little more interested in this next round look at
05:58this Saturday night to Sunday morning here's a stripe of some accumulating
06:02snow in South Dakota into western and northern Iowa maybe a little bit of snow
06:06we're a little skeptical that it actually falls that far south in an
06:09accumulating fashion but you can see more of the interior with perhaps your
06:13first dusting to a fraction of an inch of snow Sunday night to Monday so
06:16it's almost that time and we can close out with a quick look at our summary
06:20graphic snow potential Saturday night Sunday and Monday
