00:00Trent, we was just sitting there, we was just talking to you about this, Trent, man, and I was thinking about you.
00:04I had to fly back home, and I'm thinking to myself, boy, I don't know if they could pay good money.
00:09They could pay Trent enough money to ride in the middle seat on a Southwest flight to Kansas City like I took.
00:15I just don't even know that you could even negotiate that, Trent.
00:21Man, if we're going to play some ball, it ain't that long of a flight. I'll make it work.
00:30Hey, Trent, I want everybody, I want that flight attendant to say, all right, we got a full flight coming, and then you come rolling down the middle of that aisle.
00:39Nothing but middle seats like this.
00:45Trent's like, I know one thing. I'm going to be more comfortable than these two jokers next to me.
00:49I was just about to say that. I'll tell you what I'm going to have over the armrests. I'll tell you that.
00:54Armrests, hell, you're going to have your arms in their laps.
00:56How the hell with that, Trent? We got to lift that armrests.
01:00I'll tell you.
01:02I tell Trent, man, you take this out, man. You need that a little bit longer than I do.
01:07All right, man, good to talk to you.
01:10And my partner here, and I'm sure he'll get into it, man, really believes you've really, in a way, saved this offensive line and changed things
01:20because the play of the offensive line has really looked different since you have been in that right tackle spot.
01:28What are you seeing the changes, and what do you think you've been bringing to the table with this offensive line?
01:34I think it's just throughout my career and the places I've been, I've always tried to keep the same mentality of playing,
01:43being mentally and physically tough and trying to use that against my opponents and use what God's given me
01:52and just try to wear them down.
01:57And especially when I went to the Patriots, you know, played a lot of meaningful football late in the year.
02:03You know, the more you can run the ball, the more you win.
02:06I don't know if people notice that trend, but the teams that win football games, especially late in the year.
02:13And I think that's the dominance up front is what matters the most,
02:16and then allowing guys on the outside, our playmakers, to get the ball with a lot of space on the field
02:22and back there on the back end.
02:24And that's the beauty of the run game, having that balance attack, being able to run the ball and pass the ball.
02:29That's the most important thing.
02:32Trent, you mentioned space, and I'm an old quarterback, so I think it's just as important in pass protection.
02:37I've seen you collapse a couple of that right side and just give the quarterback just a beautiful,
02:42clean right side of the pocket and plenty of space to operate
02:45and plenty of vision, and it's just a beautiful thing to watch a quarterback get comfortable back there.
02:50But to me, you know, we've heard – I've covered this team for seven years, man,
02:54and doing day-to-day and post-game, and there's been a lot of coaches talk about physicality,
03:00offensive line play, finishing and physicality, finishing and physicality.
03:04And I'm going to be honest with you, I couldn't see that personally.
03:07I didn't see that until you got on the field, and it seems like it's almost been contagious.
03:12And I don't want you to speak on the other guys,
03:13but just your approach to the physicality and the finishing aspect of playing off the line.
03:20I mean, it's really just a mentality.
03:22At the end of the day, you've got to want to do it.
03:24And at the end of the day, me, I always had a mentality like I don't want to let my teammates down.
03:30And I also like – I'm also the guy that – I hate to throw the defense fastballs.
03:36You know what I'm saying?
03:37Like, I want to play friendly football and keep our defense fresh and off the field so they can go out there
03:43and do what they do, and that's play number one defense.
03:47You know what I mean?
03:47Like, I've been able to be a part of some teams that have – other teams on the Patriots that were the number one defense.
03:54And so, like, I understand how that feels, and I know I've been carried.
03:58And I just kind of try to tell the guys and try to – in the room, like, man, we've got to bring –
04:03we've got to do our part in the group project.
04:04You know what I mean?
04:05Like, it's no fun to – you know what I mean?
04:08Like, it ain't about getting glory, but it's just like – you just want to feel like you had a part in success of the team.
04:14You know what I mean?
04:15Like, that shit is just no fun, like, being carried.
04:18I just don't – as a man, that's just life in general, period.
04:21You know what I mean?
04:22Like, no handouts.
04:23It's like – just want to be a part.
04:25I love going.
04:27I mean, you want to carry your part of the load.
04:30That's for damn sure, and it's good to see that happening.
04:33Hey, but I want to get inside the head of Trent Brown, man.
04:35I've seen you grab a couple of edge rushers, man, and just – on that chest plate or wherever it may be,
04:41and you just stop them in their tracks, and it's manhandling, folks.
04:46Take me inside the mind of Trent Brown.
04:48When you get your hands on somebody like that and that happens, how good a feeling is that?
04:52I mean, the most beautiful part about this game is –
04:57and the most beautiful part about playing offensive line is moving grown men against their will.
05:02That's awesome.
05:04Like, knowing that he's trying to go somewhere and he can't because I got my hands on him
05:08or he got to go through me and he can't do nothing with me.
05:11Like, that's just the mentality.
05:13My college coach used to have this saying, and he would say, mass kicks ass.
05:17So I'm using what God gave me to the best of my abilities, and that's as simple as that.
05:21You know what I mean?
05:22I also don't – it's just – yeah, I'm my dad's son at the end of the day,
05:30so, like, I just always hear him in my head, like, from a young age when we used to be working out
05:35and hot summer days, and we used to just – like, I always hear his voice in my head,
05:39like, you got more.
05:40You can't be beat.
05:42You're unstoppable.
05:42You know what I mean?
05:43So it's just like that motivation always in my head.
05:45And just, like, that's it, really.
05:48Like, I just don't want to be the one to let the team down.
05:53I'm going to try that with my wife, Trent.
05:55Matt, Matt, new dad.
06:02I'm going to try that with – look out, Court.
06:05That little mask, little mask.
06:08Hang on, bro.
06:08Hey, no, listen, you talked about your time with the Patriots
06:13and different teams you've been around.
06:16This team started out 0-3 and had some struggles, you know, up and down,
06:21even after that a bit.
06:23What – for you, what was the moment that changed things that started this team going on,
06:29if you could pick out one, going on this trajectory that they're on right now?
06:33I would think it's just that second Jacksonville game, man.
06:38Like, everybody just having that belief and seeing that even to come back
06:42and score 34 – 30 straight points or whatever and win in the fourth quarter,
06:47that second half, push offensively.
06:49Like, that's the kind of, like, joy and happiness that you can have.
06:54And that's kind of – I've been contagious, really.
06:58The stadium has been rocking.
06:59And the stadium – the stadium wasn't like that all year up until that point.
07:04And that was a piece together offensive line.
07:06But I just think the belief – I have a super belief in this system, this offense.
07:11I want in it.
07:12I know how it works.
07:13I know what it looks like.
07:14I know what it does to teams.
07:16And it's built to do what we've been doing.
07:19Let's run the ball, play balanced football and friendly football,
07:24like I was saying earlier, and allow our defense to go out there
07:26and do what they do best.
07:27Just allow our playmakers to get in space and make players.
07:31All right, Trent, man, we appreciate you.
07:32I know you got a busy schedule ahead of you.
07:35And, man, we could stop by and have you on any time, man.
07:39Really appreciate you.
07:40And good luck this weekend in Kansas City.
