00:00All right, welcome back in the breaking news. As Tyler came through just a couple of moments ago, I've got
00:08it from, there are a couple of sources I've got it here from Aaron Wilson Texans.
00:12They are signing tight end Dalton Schultz to a one-year extension worth $12.6 million. That means he is
00:21another candidate for somebody to move money around so they can have more money to spend right now.
00:30So that's what that makes sense. Just like they did with Daniil Hunter, they're doing this with Dalton Schultz. This
00:36to me is another sign and another way, Clint, that they are able to open up money right now to
00:44be able to use.
00:45So that is the latest there. Big news day here with the Texans. But Dalton Schultz, who somebody, I know
00:53you have said here repeatedly lately, you wouldn't mind if he were extended or here longer.
00:59And you had even talked about this is something that could happen for them to free up some more money
01:05and for to have him here longer because you don't mind him here for a couple more years.
01:10Yeah, look, I mean, a great candidate to extend for a year, which is going to allow you to manipulate
01:14the cap a bit here and there and making enough money to make it where it makes sense.
01:19And a guy that clearly, in my opinion, did a 180. I mean, a year ago, I'm wanting to get
01:23out of the Dalton Schultz business, to be completely honest with you.
01:26And, you know, a football season later, I mean, I am in, you know, he talks about the system and
01:31how much he really likes the system.
01:33But when I look at it, it's just the want to, the willingness to block, to pass, protect.
01:39And then obviously, it seems like in this system, the tight end seems to be a little bit more of
01:45a prominent piece, a little bit more of a guy that can run some numbers up and is a little
01:50more of a focal point, which I think bodes well for C.J. Stroud.
01:54So, look, I've done a 180 on Dalton Schultz. I love the year that he had.
01:58I'd argue that he was as important as anybody on this offense last year.
02:03And to be honest with you, that role should grow.
02:06I would expect Dalton Schultz to have, if he can stay healthy, I would expect Dalton Schultz to have a
02:10career year this coming season.
02:12Anybody have any issue with that? 713-572-4610.
02:16There's those of you on the base power text line, YouTube and Twitch.
02:20Anybody have an issue with Dalton Schultz being here longer, them extending Dalton Schultz?
02:28Um, champs like Clint used to hate Dalton Schultz.
02:31He did.
02:31He just said that.
02:32He flipped around on it.
02:34Dalton Schultz definitely redeemed himself last year from Rob Torres.
02:39Yeah, he did.
02:40Let me clear a clip.
02:40For the record, I didn't hate Dalton Schultz.
02:42I very accurately analyzed his play, which was piss poor on several fronts.
02:48And I was interested in getting out of the Dalton Schultz business.
02:52And, and, uh, new offense, uh, he turned a corner, did a 180.
02:57Uh, he himself has told us multiple times that, you know, this offense, he just understands.
03:03He gets it.
03:04It's a good fit.
03:05And so we all can, can understand why there was, there was a significant change.
03:10And, uh, so yeah, it's, it's not about hate liking or, or, or, or hating Dalton Schultz.
03:14Uh, the, the, the film that he put out there two years ago drove me insane and was not ideal.
03:20Left a lot to be desired for a $12 million tight end.
03:23Fast forward to this past season, $12 million tight end.
03:26Hell, I'd pay him more.
03:27Um, I would extend him.
03:28Looks like the Texans saw the same thing.
03:30Well, especially what they have there too.
03:32Right.
03:32And look, let's, let's be honest.
03:34I mean, Dalton Schultz has all but said, Hey, I get it.
03:36I mean, we've had other guys that are in that tight end room all but say, yeah, man, look,
03:40it was an ideal play the year before last.
03:42And so this was, it was, I think it was very fair, but let's be clear.
03:46It's not about hating an individual or, or, or anything like that.
03:49It's just the play left a lot to be desired.
03:52I told the people about it and don't, don't, uh, don't, don't hate.
03:55Don't shoot the messenger now.
03:56Yep.
03:56They still need to get another tight end, but I, I think this, this was as much.
04:01Let's open up some more space to be able to spend some money to be able to, to get as
04:06much that we can heading into free agency to be able to pay for what we want to get.
04:11And we are comfortable with having Dalton Schultz here and cause you better, you ain't got
04:16there.
04:17You don't have anything else right now.
04:19Ready to, to, uh, to take his job, to be honest at the tight end spot.
04:23And even if you draft somebody this year, I don't think you're drafting Tyler Warren
04:29early in the first round.
04:30I don't know.
04:30You may be, maybe you get the kid from Oregon, but I don't think you're drafting somebody
04:34and that's not your priority to take this.
04:37So this makes sense.
04:38Yeah, this makes sense.
04:38Yeah, no, it makes perfect sense.
04:40And the team got better with it.
04:41I mean, you extend a player, uh, that, that you, that you really like, it's a great fit
04:45in the system.
04:45That's really got good chemistry with your quarterback.
04:47Um, and you extend him, keep him here a year longer, give yourself a little bit of flexibility
04:51on the cap and, and is going to allow you to, to bring in some reinforcements this year.
04:55So yeah, it's, this is a win-win, um, both, both from the Dalton Schultz front, as well
05:00as the, the ability to bring in, bring in more talent.
05:03Are you, um, so that's the latest there with Dalton Schultz.
