AccuWeather's Bernie Rayno says "winter is alive and well," as Arctic air is expected to spread into the Midwest this weekend before moving next week as another winter storm approaches.
00:00Winter is alive and well in the Midwest through the weekend and actually in the next week.
00:05In fact, the pattern that we're seeing now isn't going to change at all right into mid-December.
00:11You get this northwest flow and that continues to bring down shots of cold air and storms.
00:18And what will intensify the cold is the deep snowpack already that exists across much of the lakes and the Midwest.
00:27Now, as we go through this weekend, we're going to be watching a storm that's going to come out of the Dakotas and in toward the lakes as we get in the Saturday and Saturday night.
00:37While it's not a big storm, it's going to be an impactful one because it is going to be spreading snow first across the Dakotas Saturday night.
00:45And then that snow will streak south and east toward Chicago as we head in the Sunday.
00:51Most areas south of Minneapolis, but certainly including cities like Chicago, Rockford and even across Des Moines, Iowa, will get at least an inch or two.
01:01But some spots in that darker blue shading will get five to six inches of snow and some very slippery travel Saturday night into Sunday.
01:11And then behind that storm, you betcha, more cold as we get into Sunday, Monday.
01:17And I'll tell you what, more storms are on the way for the Midwest during the middle and latter half of next week.
