AccuWeather's Bernie Rayno says this week will wrap up on a stormy and snowy note for much of the eastern U.S. Rain could cause some flooding in the South while snow blankets the mid-Atlantic region.
Transcript
00:00Well, this week is going to end the way it started, stormy and snowy.
00:06But this time, the accumulating snow looks like it's going to be across mid-Atlantic.
00:11All right, the ingredients for this storm start with what?
00:14An injection of cold air.
00:16It's already moved across the Midwest.
00:18It'll be coming into the Northeast Thursday, Thursday night, and that cold air will funnel
00:22its way down into the Carolinas.
00:24Meanwhile, the storm that produced the snow in Denver on Wednesday will round the bend,
00:31move across East Texas, then move to the East Northeast.
00:34Now, from East Texas toward the Southeast, this is going to be a chilly rain.
00:38The forecast question, though, is do we have enough moisture on the northern side of this
00:43storm in the cold air for snow?
00:44We think there's a good possibility of that.
00:46That's why we are forecasting for at least some accumulating snow across Virginia, and
00:51the snow may get as far north as Philadelphia and southern New Jersey.
00:55Cities like Washington, D.C., Baltimore can get a couple of inches of snow.
01:00And as you head south, let's say from Richmond toward Roanoke, probably some snow that goes
01:06over to some freezing rain and sleet.
01:08And even in northern North Carolina, including Raleigh, there could be a little snow and sleet
01:14before a changeover to rain.
01:16It won't be a big storm, but it could be an impactful one for parts of Virginia, resulting
01:22in very slippery travel on Friday.
