00:00pretty good and Luke Cloud I think it was potentially on the Kawasaki just inside them
00:07as the 32nd board is now up the first of our races about to get under the way we just saw
00:14it a moment ago the start is crucial final number one gates are down both the Lawrences
00:22are out pretty good but Hunter has been eaten up in turn number one around the corner first
00:29it is Matt Moss on the 102 Jett Lawrence is there as well and Dylan Wills with a great start
00:35we look at the background Aaron Tanti has gone down the number nine coming together with Walsh
00:40plenty of action on the opening lap and wasting no time Jett Lawrence moves to the lead
00:47Jett Lawrence going over likely to go over the tabletop triple into the corner stays a little
00:52bit lower pushes through the lane into the lead it's going to be it's going to be tough for
00:58anybody these guys to make a run with the 18 right now yeah it's going to be super tough
01:03but how about Matt Moss off the start going triple quad I love to see that Mossy one of the best starters
01:08in the business showing that here tonight you know so oh look at this what has happened here that is
01:16Luke Cloud right before the finish line you can only think that it is that triple we've seen
01:20catch so many riders out so far tonight has played havoc once again and I wanted to draw your attention
01:27boys to the left off screen the top 11 there is not a sign of Hunter Lawrence on our timing down in 14th
01:35in fact he was 16th the last sector yeah and that happened right out in front of the gate you see Jett
01:40Lawrence get the jump on Hunter Jett went a little bit left closed the door on Hunter and then he
01:45he was just a passenger from there on in you can tell he just kind of creeped into that first turn
01:50when you're on the inside like that AC there's nothing you can do you just got to creep around the inside
01:54that starting up and that's the tough part about starting on the inside you know some people say
02:00maybe it's a little bit safer but if you don't get the jump you can easily be shuffled back whereas
02:07if you're closer to the doghouse you don't get a great jump you can kind of get through the first
02:11turn and salvage a decent position but right now the 96 of Hunter Lawrence is buried not where he wants to be
02:18still out of the top 11 but moving forwards behind Liam Jackson at the moment in 12th place
02:25is Hunter Lawrence I caught a glimpse of the battle that was going on up the front between
02:30Dylan Wills and Dean Wilson Wilson coming out the better as he got into third and Lawrence there
02:37trying to pick up one more place and now solidifies that position moving into 11th plus around that berm
02:45and he is the battle between Wilson and Moss starting to heat up you see Dino carries so much
02:54speed into the woods there picks up his front wheel sets it on the third one you got to carry a lot of
03:00entry speed in the woods to do that lap after lap looks like Dino's looking for a way by
03:05that sand section is getting tough you can tell there's a lot of grooves a lot of edges in the
03:11bottom of that sand that you can't really see there see Moss he does that low line Dino looking for a way
03:15around squares him up goes back to the inside several different rhythm options through that rhythm lane
03:21right there smart move by Dino backing out he's been going two three all day smart move back and out
03:28biding this time I think he's got a little bit more pace than Moss so it's a matter of time I'd be
03:34looking at the roof section in this lap if I'm Dean Wilson to make a move in a second yeah the right
03:38side of that roof Dean's been working that all day long then you try to get to the inside of that
03:43next right-hand turn let's see if Dino will do it out of this lap let's see into the corner goes Moss he's
03:51very wise but worse with a great run to the inside absolutely picked it perfectly you two boys as
03:58Dean Wilson moves up in the second place how long have we seen Dean Wilson do that in the whoops for
04:06one of the best there is in the world in the whoops section absolutely there's no doubt about that but as
04:13soon as he got into second I was thinking where's Jed well folks he's gone he's disappeared bye-bye
04:19five seconds out in front is Jed Lawrence you see him on screen now stepping over into
04:26wow there's that quad again the only rider to do it that's where he makes up so much time
04:32and the thing about Jed on a track like this specifically look he's good on any condition
04:39we know that but he's so light on the gas on the track as slippery as this it's all about not
04:46upsetting the balance of the bike when you get on the throttle super hard especially on these 450s easy
04:53to get the back end really low the front end light he's so balanced because he's so light on the brakes
05:00so light on the gas and that's what you're seeing on your screen right now
05:04up and over the triple our race leader still sits 5.8 seconds in front of Dean Wilson does not have to
05:12push himself any harder than we're seeing right now as he picks a very low line through that turn five
05:18laps to go in and the first of our finals around the left here triples in quads over does it with ease
05:26and then just rolls himself into the turn staying very low in those turns I think he's staying out of a lot of those
05:33uneven surfaces that you get when you start to break a little bit of dirt in this very hard packed surface
05:39yeah and that's what they say when people say Jed makes it look easy
05:43he makes it look easy because his ankles are so proper and then he's in the traction he's in the good dirt
05:50because he's going outside to in he just does it different and makes it look so easy
05:54but then when you look at the lap time it's like oh yeah he's the fastest guy on track so
05:58really really difficult to make it happen but it does look pretty easy
06:03and to add to that in these corners this is a perfect example
06:06he makes the majority of his turn so the majority of his ankle
06:12he does it at the right part of the corner the corner that holds the most traction
06:18so on a track like this you see it's all about getting your bike in a straight line
06:22the more you're on lean angle on a track that's slick like this the slower you have to go
06:28so watch Hunter on your screen the same thing
06:30it's all about getting your bike in a straight line as quick and as efficiently as you can
06:36Hunter now in 7th place
06:39he's starting to make his way up to the back wheel of eccentric Subaru Ross
06:43that you can see actually just in front of them
06:44so it won't be too long until we see these three riders coming together
06:48Subaru Ross is battling his way through here with Mel Ross just in front of him
06:54with still three laps to go
06:57it's not the start of the first finals that I'm sure Hunter wanted
07:02he needs to just click over these laps pick up as many places
07:05you never know what's going to happen in that second fight
07:08oh look at this Mel Ross and Subaru Ross coming together
07:12Hunter wasting no time but that pass made very quick
07:16and it's another thing we were talking to Hunter Lawrence yesterday
07:20another thing I love about the way Hunter goes about his business
07:24that look obviously he's here in Melbourne his home country
07:27he wants to do well he wants to win in front of this crowd
07:31he does not want to be in 5th place but he stays so focused on just doing his best
07:38and not worrying about the end result
07:41worry about that later
07:42so Hunter's attitude is a major reason why he's gotten as far as he has in racing
07:48and it can be really difficult to do right
07:50you can start outside of the top 10
07:52you can start to force things
07:54but I love how you articulated that AC
07:56he just that's what Hunter Lawrence does
07:58that's his superpower Jet superpower is not thinking much
08:03carefree
08:03very very carefree
08:04everybody does it a little bit different
08:06but yeah Hunter Lawrence just executes lap after lap
08:10stays within his means
08:12and most of the time within his means
08:14is pretty good
08:15two laps to go in final number one
08:20Lawrence almost over the top of the burn
08:23it doesn't take much to make a mistake
08:27even the best in the world can do it
08:29although you'd be
08:30you'd be impressed to see it out of this guy
08:33he is so methodical when he's on the bike
08:37he knows exactly where he needs to be
08:39through the woods once again
08:40he'll come around to pick up the last lap forward
08:43a 8 second lead over the rest of the field
08:46up and over
08:47he's clipped that down a couple of times
08:50but he does it so sweet
08:51well my mind is still on the whoops
08:54and Justin you and I were talking about this in practice
08:57how does he find the forward drive he does in the whoops section
09:02it comes out of nowhere
09:03and I do not understand
09:05I'm an analyst up here broadcasting this event
09:08and I can't tell you guys how he does that
09:10I just don't understand
09:11yeah it's unbelievable
09:13the way he gets his shift
09:14the way so he's around the turn in second
09:16the way he comes out of the turn in second gear
09:19and gets his shift off the
09:20off really the very first whoop
09:22is really really difficult to do
09:24but instead
09:25a lot of people will just carry third around the entire turn
09:28well from the exit of the corner to the first whoop
09:30they're losing time
09:31third gear is not as fast exiting as second gear is
09:34so pay attention to his left foot right here
09:36he's in second
09:37there right there
09:39he shifts third gear
09:40right on that first whoop
09:41that's difficult
09:42no time at all to get the change made
09:44as he comes around toward the finish line
09:46he said he wanted to get a win here in Melbourne
09:49well he has started the night perfectly
09:51he picks up the win of the first final
09:53Dean Wilson will come across in second place
09:56just behind him
09:57look at the background
09:58there is Moss
10:01Wills with a great race
10:03and then Lawrence almost getting himself
10:06up one more place
10:07how impressive
10:10has the 64
10:11of Wills been so far tonight
10:14it's the best I've seen him look all season
10:16he only picked up a bike
10:18like a week before the first round
10:20so he's been riding into this championship
10:23as we see the boys all congratulating each other
10:26good sportsmanship between them all
