00:00...a year ago, and how he is able to come back for them is absolutely impressive.
00:04He leads the way with a win and a podium,
00:07and he leads by just a narrow margin over Daytona winner Seth Hamaka,
00:11world champion Joe Shimoda.
00:13And Jason Thomas, what about Cole Davies?
00:15Is the pressure rising on the young Yamaha star?
00:17I think it might be, because coming into 2026,
00:20a lot of people have him pinned as not only a contender, but a championship favorite.
00:25Well, through two rounds, he's gone 5-2.
00:26But let's go to a year ago and how well he rode here.
00:30He showed things that a rookie's never done.
00:32The way he could blitz the whoops simply is abnormal for a rookie.
00:36So I think when you look at him, look at his facial expression throughout 2026,
00:39not only has the expectation risen, I think he's carrying that week to week,
00:44and he's got to get a little bit less serious and find a win.
00:48Good stuff, JT.
00:49There is going to be a whole lot go down here tonight
00:52that may prove to be pivotal in the whole complexion of this championship,
00:57whether it be 450 or 250 East Division.
01:01Triple crown night.
01:03And you, I know how much you love these.
01:05Oh, I do.
01:06You know why?
01:06Because this goes towards your final score right here.
01:09This is not a qualification race.
01:11The action is now.
01:12The first of three races, 250 East.
01:17The triple crown is underway here in Indy.
01:19Dexton Bennett gets away to a really good start.
01:22Bennett on that Husky.
01:25Here comes Joe Shimoda on the Honda.
01:27Second place at the moment.
01:29Man, I'll tell you what.
01:30Joe Shimoda has been getting some great starts here
01:33in these first two rounds of this championship.
01:36But Bennett, he was fast today.
01:39Again, three weeks in a row.
01:41And this is what we wanted to see.
01:43JT talked about it at the top of the show.
01:45That number 37 right there.
01:47He is in the hot seat for me.
01:49A lot of hype built around this young talent.
01:51And he's got to show us something.
01:54Look at that rock star energy factory Huskvana.
01:57Fennec is just taking off.
01:59Shimoda's got his hands full with Cole Davies.
02:03You want to know what a perfect track is
02:05and the perfect amount of traction, grip?
02:07You are seeing it live right here on your screen.
02:11These guys can lay on the power.
02:14A lot of lean angle in the corners.
02:17Absolutely flying right now.
02:19It gets no better than this.
02:20A 20-year-old from Morganton, North Carolina,
02:23leads the way through the walks.
02:28And he's got the world champion chasing him down.
02:31Thrasher is in fourth.
02:32Jaleek Swole's made a good start in fifth.
02:34Where is the Daytona winner in Seth Hamaker?
02:37Where is the championship leader in Pierce Brown?
02:41Something's happened to him.
02:42He is plummeting.
02:44Brown is way at the back of the pack.
02:48That is not what he wanted at the beginning.
02:50Every single rider will tell you in a Triple Crown,
02:53you've got to get a good start
02:54and you've got to keep yourself towards the front.
02:57Well, and that's right.
02:57One of the keys to these Triple Crowns
03:00is having a first good race.
03:02Why?
03:03Because it kind of takes the pressure off.
03:05What you don't want to happen
03:06is your main competitors
03:07having a good first and second race
03:09and you're playing catch-up the whole night.
03:12Oh, look at this pass by Davies up the inside.
03:16Perfect execution.
03:17We've often talked about just how fast
03:19Cole Davies is through those whoop sections.
03:22Great pass by Joe Shimoda.
03:23Bottom box.
03:24Look for the red plate.
03:25There's your championship leader in Pierce Brown
03:27as he starts to make his way back.
03:30Well, and this is where you have to go.
03:32You can go to damage mode right now.
03:35Damage control, pardon me.
03:36He's got to pass as many guys as possible.
03:41Got to be heads up riding too.
03:43A lot of these guys going in,
03:44you're going different lines.
03:46Got to predict where they're going to go
03:48and not have a collision.
03:50Daxton Benick leads the way.
03:51A lot of racing to come tonight.
03:53I want to tell you about SMX Benick
03:54and DFS Gaming is back for 2026.
03:57New sportsbook bonuses and prop markets are live right now.
04:00Scan the flow code on your screen.
04:03Visit nxtbest.com slash play SMX
04:06to see what's available in your area
04:07and claim bonus offers.
04:09Always play responsibly.
04:10And remember,
04:11every race is another chance to win big
04:12with super motocross.
04:16and watch as we come across the whoops.
04:18Now, this rhythm lane right here,
04:20some riders doing different combinations
04:23and it's going to get super ruddy
04:25as the second and third race approach the night,
04:30tripling onto this tabletop.
04:32Now, the whoops right here.
04:33This is a passing option for Cole Davies
04:35if he can get a good run into the whoops.
04:37Here we go.
04:38Look at this.
04:39He's been blisteringly fast through here
04:40all day long
04:42and he's done it beautifully.
04:43Yeah, watch the difference here in riding style
04:45how you see Dax,
04:47he sits down before that jump.
04:48Cole stands up.
04:49When you stand up over that little jump
04:51onto the tabletop,
04:52it's actually a little bit faster.
04:54The bike doesn't compress as much
04:55and you're able to drive through that.
04:57The 18-year-old New Zealander
05:00leads the way.
05:02He was pretty confident in his statements
05:04after last weekend's Daytona event.
05:08He said,
05:08look, if I do what I know I can do,
05:11nobody can touch me.
05:13Yeah, absolutely.
05:14I mean, and again, no surprise.
05:16This is what we expected of him, Will.
05:19Yeah, Ricky, he's kind of changed a little bit
05:21in his attitude in the sense
05:22that he wanted to win right from the get-go
05:25when we started the East Rounds here in Arlington
05:28and he was pretty tough on himself
05:29when that didn't happen.
05:31And speaking to the team now,
05:32they said he's kind of learned to just shoulder that
05:34a little bit better.
05:35He's looking at the positives.
05:37That was bad starts in both of those two rounds
05:39but was able to work his way forward.
05:41And now he's able to let that go.
05:42We do have to remember, Ricky,
05:44that this is only his second year racing.
05:46So, so much for him still to learn.
05:48And as he cranks off these rounds here,
05:50he's figuring that out mentally
05:51as well as on the track.
05:52Wow, you're right.
05:52It is only his second year,
05:54but when you're at the talent of him
05:56and you did so well your rookie year,
05:59these are the expectations that come along with that.
06:01This is a guy who went toe-to-toe, right,
06:04with Hayden Deegan.
06:05And then he went down in a confrontation with Deegan.
06:09But he is uber-talented.
06:11But there has been, to Will's point,
06:12that simmering frustration.
06:14Maybe up until now,
06:15this is going to take the cork out of the bottle
06:17a little bit.
06:18Right.
06:18This is, again,
06:19this is what we expected of him.
06:20And JT talked about it.
06:22And JT, I just got to ask,
06:24were you expecting this at the first race?
06:26I was, but, hey,
06:28let's think about Hayden Deegan's first race
06:29at Tiffany West this year.
06:31Did not go to plan.
06:32He found it at race two.
06:34Maybe it's race three for Cole Davies.
06:36And, Ricky, that entry speed,
06:37you talked about the whoops.
06:39Watch how fast he is entering these whoops.
06:41He is decimating everybody else at entry speed.
06:46You can see the number 10 there,
06:48Seth Hamaker trying to play catch up.
06:51Pierce coming up through the pack.
06:53He's worked his way up only to 15th.
06:56And the thing that's really hardly
06:57in these Triple Crown races is
06:59these guys only race 10 minutes plus one lap.
07:02It's almost like a heat race.
07:04So a lot of these riders have the fitness
07:06to go super hard for that short amount of time,
07:09which makes it more difficult to make passes.
07:12Trying to work his way by Liam Oloff.
07:15Great to see Oloff out there
07:19qualifying for the main event.
07:21Run it up in the top 15.
07:25How about in the bottom box,
07:27this battle for third last week,
07:29Seth Hamaker.
07:30That was an awesome ride
07:31to get that Daytona win.
07:33So special in his career.
07:34But considering what had transpired
07:36earlier in the day
07:36where he had a very heavy fall,
07:38hurt his shoulder,
07:39bike was damaged,
07:41couldn't go on in qualifying.
07:42And then to bounce back that way,
07:44he also had like a little drop
07:45in his heat race as well.
07:47Right.
07:47So as he works his way further forward,
07:49got a little squirrely there
07:50through the whoops.
07:51Yeah, the whoops are starting
07:52to get chewed up.
07:53These riders are going to struggle
07:54and this is going to be a challenge.
07:57Keep your eye out.
07:58They're probably going,
07:58a lot of riders are probably going
07:59to start jumping those whoops.
08:01because they were doing it earlier today
08:03in qualifying practice.
08:04Probably a little more consistent
08:06for them to do that
08:07rather than blitzing.
08:09Will?
08:11Ricky, a question about
08:13when they learn,
08:14when they start jumping here.
08:15I asked a few riders today
08:17and they were like,
08:17it's going to be a combo
08:18between when you feel like
08:20it's getting uncomfortable
08:21to keep skimming
08:23and also when the team
08:24is saying,
08:25hang on a second,
08:25this is not faster anymore
08:26and then they have to communicate
08:28that to the mechanic
08:29who puts it on the pit board.
08:30So at what point here
08:31do they say,
08:32hang on a second,
08:32I've got to call this
08:33and go to the jump line
08:34as Joe makes the faster.
08:35Yeah, that's a nice pass
08:36for Joe Shimoda
08:37to get by Dax.
08:38But I think as a rider,
08:40you know,
08:40you have to be super intuitive
08:41and you have to make that call.
08:43You have to be aware
08:45and see here Dax tries
08:46to defend the position.
08:47He doesn't.
08:48That was a great pass
08:49by Seth Hamaker
08:50to get by.
08:51Keep an eye out
08:52on those inside lines
08:53right there.
08:54You see that Dax tried
08:55to go sneak up in there
08:56and make the pass
08:57back by Seth.
08:58He's going to come up
08:58a little short.
09:01Meanwhile,
09:02Cole Davies
09:03has opened up
09:04a four-plus second advantage
09:06over Joe Shimoda
09:07and Seth Hamaker
09:09just two minutes left.
09:10You see Seth right there
09:11and even Joe,
09:12they weren't able
09:13to do that combination
09:14through the rhythm section
09:15and that is because
09:16these rhythm lanes
09:17are getting ruddy
09:19already.
09:20and this track
09:21is going to be
09:22absolutely brutal
09:24as these races
09:25go on here tonight.
09:26A lot of fun to watch.
09:27Let's work our way
09:28further down the order
09:29and let's give a shout out
09:31to Nate Thrasher,
09:32top five at the moment.
09:33Cody Shock is in sixth.
09:35Nice start.
09:36Jalik Swal
09:36aboard the Triumph.
09:37How about Devin Simonson?
09:39He's from Terre Haute
09:40here in Indiana.
09:41So this is a home race,
09:43although he calls
09:43North Carolina home now.
09:44and then you've got
09:46Cullen Park in the top ten.
09:48Seven Towers as well.
09:50Simonson doing a great job
09:51this year.
09:52I feel like this is a
09:53breakout year for him
09:54working with Chad Reed
09:55over at that Club MX
09:57Yamaha team
09:58and you just have to believe
09:59that one of the reasons,
10:01not only from the team
10:02perspective,
10:03but that coaching
10:04and that knowledge
10:04that a champion like
10:06Chad Reed has.
10:06This has been quite
10:08the comeback.
10:09We watched Joe Shimoda
10:10by championship leader
10:11Pierce Brown.
10:12He's almost breaking
10:13into the top ten
10:14after being last
10:15on the opening lap.
10:19Yeah, it's just,
10:20it's so tough
10:21with these triple crowns.
10:23Like I was talking about,
10:24man, if you have
10:25a first bad race
10:26or not up here
10:28with your competitors
10:29at that stage,
10:29you're just playing catch up
10:31the rest of the night.
10:33Having to force
10:34certain situations
10:35or circumstances
10:37of the triple crown.
10:39He said, look,
10:40you've got three chances
10:41to either keep doing
10:42what you've been doing
10:43or fix some mistakes
10:44or errors.
10:45Yeah, it really takes
10:48a lot of discipline
10:49and puts these riders
10:50in a situation,
10:51uh-oh.
10:52That did not look good.
10:53No, puts them
10:54in a situation
10:54to where they have
10:55to execute multiple times.
10:57JT, tell us more
10:58about Joe.
10:59I'm just watching
11:00the timing here.
11:01He's closed that gap
11:02down to under three seconds
11:03and in front of Cole Davies,
11:05he has a lot
11:06of lap traffic.
11:07So, you sit bigger
11:09with eight seconds
11:09plus a lap to go.
11:10Maybe Davies
11:11can manage this thing,
11:12but Joe Shimoda's
11:12done a great job
11:13of digging into this gap.
11:15I'm just, I mean,
11:16I'm just super pumped
11:18for Joe.
11:18I mean, this is a rider
11:19who had a gnarly injury
11:21that he sustained
11:22in the offseason.
11:23I don't know
11:23that he was certain
11:24he was going to make it back.
11:25Obviously, the goal was to,
11:27but man, he comes out
11:28at Arlington,
11:29has a great finish,
11:31riding exceptionally well
11:33considering the circumstances.
11:34And there he is.
11:35He's just been getting
11:36good starts
11:36and plugging away.
11:38That injury
11:39that Ricky was talking
11:40about was a broken neck.
11:41Had surgery,
11:42did his recovery time,
11:44rehab,
11:45came back strong.
11:45He was on the set
11:46with Ouija and myself
11:47at A1.
11:48like he was still
11:49in recovery mode
11:50that recently.
11:51So this has been
11:52very impressive.
11:54Well, like JT
11:55was talking about
11:56and Cole Davies
11:56coming up on lappers,
11:58it's going to be difficult
11:58for some of these lappers
12:00to just move around.
12:01And the reason
12:02it's going to be difficult
12:03is because how ruddy it is.
12:05So they just basically
12:06have to stay married
12:07to their line.
12:08They can't go
12:08from one side of the track
12:09to the other
12:10because of that.
12:12Man, look at this guy.
12:13Here he is.
12:13He is really pretty
12:15to watch ride.
12:15That's for sure.
12:16Now he's got
12:17himself back
12:18to where he says
12:19he should be.
12:20This is more like
12:21the Cole Davies
12:22we expected to see
12:24at the beginning
12:25of this East Division
12:26Championship.
12:27Last run
12:28through the whoops.
12:29His form is just
12:31very neutral
12:31on the bike
12:33and a very nice
12:34riding style.
12:36Been very purposeful
12:37today.
12:37I watched him
12:37in qualifying
12:38first time out.
12:39He waited
12:40for the whole field
12:41to go by.
12:42He had his own
12:42track space.
12:44Race win
12:45for Cole Davies.
12:46That's his fourth
12:47individual race win
12:49in Triple Crown
12:49format.
12:51But his teammate
12:52from Monster Energy
12:52Star Yamaha,
12:54Pierce Brown,
12:55had to work his way
12:56through the field
12:58trying to get
12:59as many positions
13:00as he can.
13:00This is all about
13:01the cumulative points
13:03on the night.
13:03You've got to try
13:04and finish
13:04as low as possible.
13:06Let's see if he goes
13:07for it.
13:08Oh, Jalik isn't able
13:09to triple that section.
13:10They're going to play
13:11Cat and Mouse.
13:13He's not going to be able
13:14to get the position.
13:15How about that?
13:16He got back
13:16into the top ten.
13:17So well done
13:18to Cole Davies.
13:19We'll hear from him
13:20in a moment.
13:20Good stuff.
13:21His teammate
13:22had...
