00:0050, Daniel, not until the outdoor motocross season gets underway.
00:04What do you think of that decision?
00:05Well, personally, I'm bummed because I wanted to see it.
00:08I'm excited about this kid's future, and I wanted to see what he did with all the legends this year.
00:12But he's following the traditional path that we've seen most recently.
00:16Riders like Chase Sexton and Jett Lawrence starting in the motocross portion
00:20because these kids grow up on motocross.
00:22They're more comfortable.
00:23Supercross is something that's more learned.
00:25And, yeah, he's going to give it one more go in the 250 before he moves up permanently.
00:28One thing I asked Brian, his father, I said,
00:31did you learn anything from your daughter Haley's try at NASCAR?
00:35And he said, yeah, not to rush things.
00:37And he said, so we don't need, he goes, he's only 19.
00:40There's no need to rush this.
00:41Let's make it perfect, and we'll get him off the 450 for the beginning of Supercross,
00:45and we'll get him back on the 450 in the summertime.
00:48All right, let's focus now on what he can do here in his final appearance in a Supercross format on a 450
00:55as we see where Roxen, Tomac are at, and Savace right there, and Jason Anderson.
01:02Man, this is a stacked, stacked deal.
01:04Yeah, so many champions.
01:06And what I like is that this is what I call the 30 club.
01:09These guys are all over 30, so they're continuing to be fast and strong,
01:13but their race craft has gotten better and better with age.
01:15So this is just a group of guys who refuse to move on, refuse to retire,
01:20and they're still elevating their game each and every, we saw in Vancouver,
01:23between Roxen and Tomac, they were as good as we've ever seen them.
01:27Tonight is going to be a big test for these boys as they take on, though,
01:30the 19-year-old, who now has nothing to worry about future-wise 450.
01:34It's just all about tonight.
01:35Yep, that's right.
01:38They call it Seabus Super Stadium here on the Gold Coast of Australia,
01:44and it is packed to the roof here.
01:48Not an open seat anywhere as we get ready to go.
01:52This is another eight-lap affair with 10 points on the line for the winner.
01:5620 seconds away from the start of this one.
02:00You see the 30-second board.
02:01She'll turn it sideways and exit the racetrack, which she's told to.
02:05By the official, and we'll be ready to go.
02:08So are you ready for SX-1 here at the Australian GP?
02:12Let's drop the gate!
02:23Aranda with a great start on the 20 goes wide,
02:26but Savace tries to come up the inside,
02:28and Joey is going to get the lead early on that number 17 quadlock Honda.
02:35Man, Aranda is right after him, and look at Eli Tomek,
02:39and coming with Tomek is Roxen,
02:41and also in the mix is the 28 of Christian Craig for the other quadlock Honda.
02:50Roxen with a bit of a bobble,
02:51and that's going to cost him at least three spots through there.
02:53Wow, I'll tell you what, the sound of 450s off that gate gives me absolute chills,
03:00and I can only imagine what Joey Savace felt in that first corner
03:03when he made the move to the lead, gets up front, backing up Super Bowl.
03:07What a feeling!
03:08Yeah, he's going to get a whole other feeling here, too,
03:10as he's getting hounded by Eli Tomek on that Red Bull KTM.
03:14Tomek, oh, it rocks him, tried to get to the inside on Craig,
03:18and it didn't work out, and you can see Craig look back over his shoulder at him
03:22as he squirts away.
03:23But this is Ken Roxen's M.O.
03:25He likes to attack early, make moves, so I like the aggression.
03:28He just wasn't able to make two of those moves work,
03:31but he better hurry, because if Tomek gets by Savace,
03:34he gets that open track, good luck in an eight-lap sprint.
03:37But like Joey, look at what he's doing here,
03:40playing great defense, leading the way.
03:41And look at Christian Craig as well.
03:44Craig on the other quadlock Honda
03:46is all over the backside of Tomek.
03:49So they've got him bookended for now.
03:50And here's Cooper Webb.
03:52Webb is up to sixth.
03:54And he's trying to close up on the backside of Roxen right now.
03:57Yeah, and he's opening that Roxen and a ran that Craig.
04:00Craig inside on Tomek.
04:01And Christian Craig makes a great move
04:04to put the quadlock racing Hondas one and two.
04:08Oh, and then he bobbles and hands it right back to Tomek and the KTM.
04:12You know what?
04:13Roxen now gets inside of the 20 of Aranda.
04:16And that'll move him up a spot.
04:17Give him four for now.
04:20I think the fans are loving this action early in this race.
04:23We've got battles all over the place.
04:26And if you're Christian Craig, do it again.
04:28I mean, that should be a confidence lifter
04:30to follow up with the way you rode in practice today.
04:33You passed Eli Tomek.
04:34He's sitting right there.
04:35Get him again, and you better hurry,
04:37because here comes Kenny.
04:38Yeah, well, Tomek's getting a little aggressive, too.
04:40Looks like he's tired of waiting.
04:41He fended off Craig.
04:44And now he's thinking, I better just get around this 17 and get going.
04:47And there it is.
04:48Tomek makes the move.
04:49And the Red Bull KTM goes into the lead.
04:52The thrill and the applause of the crowd here in Australia.
04:56Sobachi tries to attack back at the 17.
04:59Can't get it done.
04:59Inside he goes.
05:01Tomek cuts it up.
05:02Oh, and he almost T-bones Sobachi.
05:04And Roxen gets around Sobachi on the outside.
05:06Great racing action here at the Australian GP.
05:10Incredible.
05:11An incredible race craft.
05:12Sobachi looking inside on Roxen, but Kenny gets away.
05:15Kenny was so sneaky through all that.
05:17He made the move by Craig and Joey,
05:19and he's so good in those moments.
05:21And now we get it again.
05:22Vancouver 2.0.
05:24It's Tomek and Roxen.
05:25Let's go.
05:27Tomek trying to find his line, get his rhythm going.
05:30He knows Roxen's there.
05:32And Roxen ready to battle his old nemesis here.
05:36Here they fight a pair of world champions.
05:39Tomek, the reigning world champ.
05:42Roxen, a two-time world champion.
05:45And here they come through the whoops.
05:46Look how quick they two are.
05:47Oh, Roxen squares it up and can't get him at the finish line jump.
05:53Tomek goes inside.
05:55Roxen takes the highlight to the next corner.
05:58Roxen on the outside again.
05:59Can he get it done?
06:00Yes.
06:01Ken Roxen to the lead.
06:0315 years of this.
06:05These boys go back to their youth.
06:07They've been battling since the 250 days, even mini bike days.
06:10And here they are in their 30s, pushing the limit.
06:13And for this moment, Ken Roxen makes the move
06:16and gets the better of the number one of Eli Tomek.
06:19Great work, Kenny.
06:19And this is exactly why we have a sold-out stadium here on the Gold Coast.
06:23These Australian fans have been so anxious to see these top-level legends
06:28paddling it out just like they are here tonight.
06:31And these racers are delivering in the Australian GP.
06:35And think back to those mistakes.
06:36Oh, Roxen tapping into the tough blocks.
06:39He went so close to the edge of the track through the woods.
06:41Graup, a first lap mistake, a second lap mistake.
06:44He recovers, he regroups.
06:46And that race path comes into play.
06:47He gets Craig, gets Savace, nice and slick.
06:50And then one-on-one with the legend Tomek.
06:52This is an incredible moment and ride by Ken Roxen.
06:57Not only did he get around him, he's pulling away from him.
07:01The gap right now is a second and a half.
07:07What an answer for Vancouver.
07:09I mean...
07:10And this is almost done.
07:11We're already up to lap six here of the scheduled eight.
07:14And Roxen looking for ten points here.
07:18Just a perfect balance of aggression and craft
07:22and throttle control on a slick track.
07:25I mean, Kenny is at the top of his game right now
07:28as the battle heats up between them teammates.
07:30It ain't over with them.
07:32Tomek still getting through the top of the whoops
07:34as good as anybody ever has.
07:38And Craig and Savace.
07:40This is a bit of a blow, I gotta believe,
07:42to Joey Savace.
07:44Daniel, not only has he lost the leads and second,
07:47but he's lost third to his teammate.
07:50Yeah, tough go after winning the Super Bowl.
07:52Hey, Jason Anderson got smacked pretty good by Aranda there.
07:56Took him out in the corner before the finish line jumped.
07:58You're gonna see his name drop.
08:00Yeah, down to tenth now.
08:01But good ride by Christian Craig.
08:03He needs to build off of what he did in those early laps.
08:05Joey Savace, fast and super pull,
08:08but tough first race for him.
08:10And Cooper Webb.
08:11Oh!
08:11Up to fifth and closing.
08:12Big problems here.
08:14That was Savace.
08:15And guess what?
08:17Webb goes by.
08:18Savace with a huge problem.
08:21Webb gets around him,
08:22and Joey loses another spot.
08:24You don't often see teammate-on-teammate crime right there.
08:28For Christian Craig, he keeps it together, goes wide,
08:30looks back, Savace loses the spot.
08:33Wow, there might be some lurds back in the quad lock Honda truck
08:36after that one.
08:36That was pretty aggressive after that quad.
08:39And unfortunately, team owner Yariv Khonski not here tonight
08:43to keep things cool if it does get elevated passion-wise.
08:47Yeah, this is sprint race one.
08:49I mean, with what we're seeing so far,
08:51I think we're just getting started on the ninth.
08:52But this man is so impressive.
08:55And again, it's hard to lose a Supercross race
08:58and then bounce back the next weekend on a legend like Eli Tomek.
09:01But can he put his head down in that one?
09:03I mean, he was perfect from lap three on.
09:06And that's great recovery, too,
09:08because those two big mistakes could have cost him
09:09and shook him up a little bit.
09:10It did nothing of a source.
09:12On to the final lap here.
09:15Ken Roxxon out front and leading the points leader
09:18coming to the checkered flag.
09:21Ken Roxxon will win SX Race 1,
09:25SX 1 Race 1 here tonight at the Australian GP.
09:29For Ken, that is his 14th race win in his FIM World Supercross career.
