It's going to be a wet week across Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas, with severe weather in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday.
Transcript
00:00Anna, I know we have a pretty big cluster of thunderstorms restricted to central Missouri, but it's on the move right now.
00:05Yeah, a lot of lightning. It actually has been growing in size over the last hour here.
00:10That's what I have looped on radar at this point.
00:13We had a break in the severe thunderstorm warnings, then they were reissued.
00:17Now, let's take a look at what's right now, because again, that was one hour looped.
00:21The last severe thunderstorm warning was set to expire at 5 central time.
00:25Looks like that was allowed to expire.
00:27Still some heavy rainfall, and you saw all of the lightning that has not diminished.
00:32I want to look at our storm reports, because one of the concerns here, aside from 50 mph wind gusts, it was small hail.
00:37We do have a new hail report right around Columbia, which is where this cell has been by 15 p.m.
00:43That's eastern time, so 415 central.
00:47One-inch hail reported further to the south, and earlier in the afternoon, we had half-inch hail and one-inch hail reported as well.
00:53So just because we're in a break in the action right now, you saw all of the lightning.
00:56That's one of the signs we'd look for as to the health of a thunderstorm.
00:59Is it weakening?
01:00Is it strengthening?
01:01It's growing in size, but the lightning is also staying consistent.
01:06We could see more severe thunderstorm warnings as time goes on here.
01:09Throughout the rest of the evening at AccuWeather, we say this is where that is most likely to happen.
01:14It's a low-end severe threat.
01:16Hail, damaging wind gusts, the same concerns here.
01:18But it's just one day of this.
01:20We look at the south-central region as a whole.
01:22Tomorrow, we have the heat.
01:24We have a break from the severe weather, but this sets us up for more on the way Wednesday and Thursday.
01:30So Wednesday, it's another low-end threat.
01:32However, it's more widespread, and our attention turns from hail to flooding downpours.
01:38Flash flooding is really going to be the concern Wednesday night through the end of the week.
01:42Let's take a look at future radar, how it plays out, give you an idea of why that's the concern.
01:46So it's the storm that's starting the week in California.
01:49It moves east, picks up some additional energy from the south.
01:52By Wednesday morning, we get a little bit of rain in the panhandle of Texas.
01:55However, it's really later into the evening and the overnight that we get those heavy downpours moving into Texas.
02:01Throughout the day Thursday, that just continues to spread to the north.
02:05Here is your concern about flash flooding.
02:07However, Thursday as a whole, all types of severe weather are possible here,
02:12and we also have that level 2 out of 4 moderate risk area, especially several days in advance when we have that.
02:17We are telling you this is a severe weather event to pay attention to.
02:21It's going to be the worst of the week.
