AccuWeather's Geoff Cornish says drenching downpours and thunderstorms will spark the risk of flash flooding from Texas all the way to the central Gulf Coast for several days heading into the weekend.
Transcript
00:00Through the weekend we're going to see downpours that will be heavy at times that will lead to flash flooding.
00:05Many areas in Texas and eventually a little farther east will pick up a few inches of rain over the
00:11next few days.
00:12Initially strong high pressure across the southeast will direct the moisture ridge flow into southern Louisiana, Texas and up into
00:20the central plains.
00:21Gradually that area of high pressure will drift east and that will open the door for more moisture into more
00:27of the Mississippi Valley.
00:29So areas like the central Gulf Coast will see some locally heavy rain, a gradual shift, an expansion eastward from
00:35west to east with that heavy rain into the weekend.
00:39There may be a period of time, especially Saturday, with some drenching downpours in parts of Mississippi and eastern Louisiana
00:45as well.
00:46Overall, showers and thunderstorms will interrupt outdoor plans.
00:49Highs will be in the 80s. It will be very humid across the central Gulf Coast.
00:53And again, localized flash flooding will be the main concern with these thunderstorms.
