Businesswoman and former chairman of the Tobago arm of the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce Dianne Hadad says she is disappointed in the performance of the Farley Augustine led THA. More in this Elizabeth Williams report.
00:00So I would remember, and I'm certain somebody has the clip and will happily play it, when I said the night of that election that everybody loved Farley from Crown Point to Charlottesville and that he was the Solvish.
00:14Well, you know, there's this saying, we didn't know that the Solvish could actually get rotten.
00:18But unfortunately, he has been a major disappointment. His output at the beginning in terms of presenting what he was prepared to do, young person, there was the feeling and the emotion based on his presentation, because he's very good at presenting or fooling, I want to say, is what we would have discovered it to be afterwards.
00:41Ms. Haddad said there have been four years of unfaithfulness to the people of Tobago by the present THE.
00:50Having understood his past and whatever, there was a feeling that he understood what was necessary and would have been vigorous to work to get it done.
01:00And I must tell you that I called this March of the following year when they won the election.
01:05By March of the following year, I recognized that there was deception, untruths, and at the end of the day, we were going to be spending four years of, I will call it, unfaithfulness to the people.
01:23Meantime, Chairman of the Tobago Arm of the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Curtis Williams, said the new THA needs to address the slowdown in the Tobago economy.
01:35Business on the island is a bit sluggish. We definitely speak to some of our members and the business community, and we see business is a bit sluggish.
01:44The construction sector, they are literally having some challenges. There's nothing much happening for business.
01:53I mean, this is Tobago-based business contractors. They came to us crying. You know, nothing much happening in their sector.
02:01The food and beverage sector, there are some happenings there. Something sluggish, slow, nothing much to talk about.
02:09Mr. Williams said a number of deliverables were not met by the THA, but hope is on the horizon with the new government.
02:17There were things that were mentioned that they didn't get to deliver on, and I knew that they had probably, they had some challenges with funding.
02:25As they indicated, the cash flow wasn't there, and now I see some momentum. We started to get some momentum now.
02:31We've seen that there are going to be more funds coming into the coffers from the central government, and there are other things the prime minister promised across Tobago.
02:39So we've seen an excitement for 2026. So hence the reason why we want to see a proper roadmap and transparency in spending going forward.
