After snowy weather in much of the Northeast from Nov. 10-11, conditions are beginning to become milder.
Transcript
00:00That early taste of winter gripping the north-central U.S., the northeast at the southeast.
00:04We've got heavy lake effect snow from Chicago to Buffalo making roads treacherous in the past two days.
00:09And the snow has been blanketing parts of the region early.
00:12At the same time, the Arctic air was pushing south, dropping temperatures in the 20s and the 30s from Tennessee to northern Florida.
00:19Now, for many, it's the coldest air since late February. It's not done yet.
00:22We can take you to Franklin, Pennsylvania here, where, as we discussed earlier, Applefest returned.
00:28There's the evidence there in the windows of the building.
00:31But that's come and gone, and the snow has returned since.
00:33I love the name Applefest.
00:35It's the kind of event that you would find in a holiday movie or a book about a nice little small town.
00:44It's very, very nice there in Franklin.
00:47Now, you're seeing maybe a few signs of the snow left behind there in Franklin, but let's take a look at what's happening on radar.
00:54Like I was saying, we looked at the six-hour loop of the national map.
00:57It's been diminishing.
00:58Now we're down to a one-hour loop, so much significantly less snow than what we saw.
01:03Not even really seeing some signs of heavier snowfall.
01:07Those bands really disappearing because the lake effect snow machine mostly turning off at this point.
01:13But we have our next system moving in.
01:17It's another Clipper system.
01:18However, I know you hear Clipper.
01:20If you're familiar with that term, you've been tuning in to us for a while.
01:24You think, all right, a couple inches of snow at the least.
01:27This is not a big accumulating event.
01:29It's not like the Clipper that started off this snow event that we just had.
01:35So let's take a look more at what's happening now.
01:38And then in the next half hour, we'll dive a little bit more into what's to come starting tomorrow.
01:43But it's more of a transition back to autumn-like weather.
01:46Right now, though, we're still in the 30s, really across the board here.
01:50There are a lot of blue on the map.
01:51We have the 20s and the higher elevations.
01:54So still supporting the snow that is falling rather than it turning to rain.
01:58That's a transition we're going to see more tomorrow.
02:01The wind has been a big issue, though, at this point.
02:03Really, the bigger story compared to the snow.
02:06It's dying down in New York.
02:07We're down to 18-mile-per-hour gusts.
02:08We've been in the 30s really all night.
02:1033-mile-per-hour gusts in Boston is a little bit of improvement.
02:13So we're moving in the right direction.
02:15However, we have had some storm reports, trees down, situations like that.
02:20So it's not just annoying when it's cold and windy, but actually can lead to some of those negative impacts that we've seen.
02:26Another thing to keep in mind, even though things are moving in the right direction, the snow is kind of wrapping up for now.
02:31We'll get more tomorrow.
02:32The road conditions still not the best.
02:35Now, if you're somewhere where they've been treated, that means probably throughout the day it was okay.
02:38But as we go throughout the rest of the evening, we see those temperatures drop.
02:42It's not out of the question to see some slick spots, some potentially icy spots, because we do still have at least the slush on the roads in those areas in blue where it's talking about snow-covered road conditions.
02:53Take a look at the road temperatures.
02:54They've dropped.
02:56Yesterday, we were still dealing with a lot of warmer roads compared to the air, but it's a messy setup right now for the roads overall.
03:03So just take it slow out there.
