00:00running backs have got money on their mind now. And if you missed it, Jameer Gibbs now
00:06the highest paid, most guaranteed money for a running back that we have seen in NFL history.
00:12And now that's within 72 hours. And it started with B. John Robinson, who agreed to a three-year
00:2066.75 million extension, could be up to 75 million with incentives, $22.5 million a year,
00:2951.1 guaranteed money. And that was good for number one until, of course, yeah, Jameer Gibbs
00:37decided to get a new contract. And he is getting even more money than that. 24 years old, not going
00:45to have Montgomery in the backfield here. You like investing this kind of money, Craig, in a running
00:52back in this NFL?
00:54He seems to be as close to like a LaDainian Tomlinson as I've seen. So yeah, I think this
01:01is that kind of guy. I do. It's not as big as B. John Robinson, obviously. And Robinson could
01:07probably take some more hits. But Gibbs, to me, from what I have experienced watching him, he's
01:12been relatively healthy, regardless of his size the last couple of years. And look, say what you
01:19about Dan Campbell, he seems to have a pretty good beat on the pulse of the team. And for
01:26him to just let Montgomery go like that tells me that they have a lot of faith in Jameer
01:31Gibbs. So I think you were telling me or the guys were telling me that Isaiah Pacheco was
01:36the backup. That's not really a backup. So I would assume that Gibbs is going to get a lot
01:42of touches and a lot of time. And the other thing, too, is Joe, when you give this kind
01:48of money to a running back, isn't that the point? You're going to play this guy a lot.
01:53Detroit was a perplexing team in the NFL last year, by the way. Was that the biggest underperforming
01:57team last year in the NFL? Did the Lions even make the playoffs? They didn't make it, right?
02:04Well, defensively, they were no good. Yeah. I mean, that defense fell apart. All the injuries
02:09that it wasn't good. They had no secondary there. Nobody was happy with the offensive coordinator,
02:16but they do have a new offensive coordinator this year. And, you know, that comes changes,
02:22right? I mean, say what you want about Dan Campbell, though, but these coordinators get
02:26stepping stones to other jobs, or they flunk out rather quickly, which is kind of what happened
02:32there. I think it's going to be fascinating. Are you going to become two one-dimensional is my
02:38question, because you know what's going to happen with defenses. Oh, you want Jameer Gibbs to have
02:42the ball? Yeah, no. Somebody else has got to say, what's what made Montgomery so interesting,
02:47that combination, because it was a great change of pace back there. You know, Gibbs could take it to
02:54the house in one touch, but if you wanted to grind, you know, you wanted to grind out and take
02:59some
02:59time off the clock, that was Montgomery, who now will do it for Houston, which they'll need. I mean,
03:05how many one, you know, 85-yard touchdown runs are you going to get in the NFL if you're Jameer
03:11Gibbs? At some point, defenses are going to be like, yeah, I don't think so. And at 24 years old,
03:18he's heading into his prime. 27 years old is what Jonathan Taylor is. I believe this
03:24is now his second contract go around for a contract there. He did get a three-year deal
03:31that that he was finishing up before signing this new one. And listen, that offense is all
03:36about him. It ain't about Danny Dimes, right? So I kind of love locking him up there because
03:42your entire offensive philosophy for Shane Steichen centers around Jonathan Taylor being able to get
03:48the ball either running or out of the backfield. And maybe there's something to this now in the NFL,
03:55going back to trusting running backs to be the focal point of the offense instead of
04:01crazy. I mean, what would you rather have A.J. Brown or would you rather have B. John Robinson?
04:09I'd rather have Amon Ross and Brown. And they have him too. Healthy. Healthy would be great.
04:16Yes. Healthy. As long as you don't throw it to the other team. Detroit has got to be better.
04:21Detroit. See, like it's just so crazy in the NFL. If Detroit is bad, Dan Campbell is getting fired.
04:25You know, it's crazy. You can't have two bad years in a row.
04:29No, no, you're not. It's kind of nuts, too, when you think about it. But welcome back running backs
04:36to the NFL, because they actually matter, it appears here. And they're getting locked up now
04:43for long term contract guaranteed money, which is what they've been screaming about. We'll see how it
04:49all comes all comes together here.
