03:14Welcome to You on the Tape.
03:21I'm your host, Mark Bassan.
03:23Welcome to our viewers across Trinidad and Tobago.
03:25Of course, our international viewers and our brothers and sisters in the Isles of Grenada.
03:30I certainly hope you had an enjoyable weekend.
03:33Of course, you know, the road carnage and other things happened over the weekend.
03:37But we hope that everyone else is safe.
03:40And today, of course, with us is none other than Captain Valence Rambarat of the Hunter Search and Rescue Team.
03:45Welcome, sir.
03:46Thank you very much, Mark.
03:48A pleasure and good evening to our viewers on Beyond the Tape and TV6.
03:51It's always a pleasure to be here, Mark.
03:54You know, this weekend, this weekend in particular was a mixture of some very sad news, you know, searching for missing firemen.
04:04And let me just give the details.
04:07On Friday evening, retired firemen and Slim Andy Alonzo from Duranta Gardens in Sangre Grandi.
04:18He would have left his home around 2 p.m. to go to.
04:21He does a bit of joinery, you know, cupboard fabrication and stuff.
04:27And he would have left his home to go about two miles away to Barker Trace and Coal Mine to attend to his business.
04:34Later on in the evening, you know, he had other commitments.
04:40And when they called his phone, it was still ringing.
04:43But neighbors checked into the workshop and realized he wasn't there.
04:47And after, you know, checking out, they realized that Anselm is missing.
04:51And so the search began for Anselm and Ernest.
04:56He went missing with his Nissan Note Aura PEF 8512.
05:05And this vehicle, yeah, this Burgundy vehicle, a very new vehicle, this is the vehicle he was with at his workshop.
05:13And then he went missing.
05:15And this afternoon, Mark, we had, we, a body was found in the Little Kura area in Komoto.
05:25And relatives were there.
05:27And they were unable to view the body because of the state of decomposition.
05:33And so they will have to wait until tomorrow morning to view the body.
05:37But sources close to Hunter Search and Rescue Team have indicated that they feel strongly
05:44that the body belongs to Anselm, Alonzo.
05:49So we'll have to wait for the official communication.
05:52But, Mark, yesterday we started in Beech at around 6 a.m.
06:01And on the way to Sangre Grandi, we met with some of his families.
06:06There's a guy in green there.
06:07His name is Gary.
06:08And others, they were searching, coming to Beech.
06:12And so we met and then continued the search into Sandy Grandi.
06:17We had with us as well, Trinidad and Tobago, members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service,
06:24and a lot of his friends and family joined in the search.
06:27And this ended at about 8 p.m. last night, unsuccessful in finding either the vehicle or Anselm.
06:37And so today, our members were also out in the field.
06:43And the family went to a different location to continue the search
06:47until we got word that, you know, that, you know, this body was found in Little Kura Road.
06:54And for people who are looking for the exact location, it is in the Degans Road area.
07:04So if you're familiar with Komoto, it will be in the Degans Road area.
07:10And, you know, unfortunate news.
07:12Yeah.
07:12Mark?
07:14Well, certainly, I guess the vehicle that he would have left to go to his workshop is still probably missing, yes?
07:21Yes, so we're still asking people to keep your eyes out for that Burgundy Nissan Note Aura PEF 8512.
07:29That is still outstanding.
07:31And locating this vehicle will help law enforcement unravel maybe, you know, what happened,
07:38and it will assist them in their inquiries going forward.
07:41Yes, certainly, you know, it's a really sad situation when you leave your home
07:44and you never make it to your workplace or something when, you know,
07:49persons who are up to no good decides in some way to intercept you, attack you,
07:56take your vehicle, and in a worst-case scenario, harm you.
08:00Mark, this was a hard-working gentleman.
08:02He lived, he worked all his life as a middle-class public servant in the fire services.
08:07You speak to people in Sandy Grandi, he was always above the law, he did the right thing.
08:12Actually, Mark, he has a daughter who is a doctor.
08:16He has a daughter who today was her first day in the teaching service.
08:22Wow.
08:22And he has a son who attended university.
08:25This was a man who worked hard for his family and did all the right things.
08:31He was very well-grounded in religion and a strong believer in the Catholic faith.
08:37And he participated in harvests and all the community activities.
08:43And this is a sad blow for Trinidad and Tobago.
08:48This is a sad blow for the people of Sandy Grandi.
08:51Anywhere you turn in Sandy Grandi, persons know Andy well.
08:56So, very unfortunate.
08:58Yes, certainly.
08:59You know, and there was also a shooting this morning in the San Pedro Road area there of a bar owner
09:05who was shot and killed in his vehicle.
09:09He's the owner of Gloria's Bar.
09:11Yeah, we're seeing this is the...
09:14So, this is on the Tabakete Road in the area of San Pedro.
09:17And Mark, when I said sad news all around, I know the family well.
09:22I just met and spoke with his wife and offered my condolences to her.
09:28But Mr. Boudin is one of the best straightener painters in that part of Trinidad and Tobago.
09:36Sylvan Boudin, yes?
09:37Sylvan.
09:38Lour.
09:38Lour, right?
09:39Right.
09:40And he worked hard.
09:41And this property, these two properties adjoining each other in the Tabakete Road, San Pedro area,
09:48both belong to him.
09:49And he had just gone to work.
09:52And this is the place where he worked.
09:54He worked as a straightener painter with, you know, he has his crew.
09:58And they are known as the best in the region.
10:01And he had just gone there, you know.
10:04And there's where he was, I would say, executed.
10:08Because...
10:08That's the vehicle?
10:09Yeah, that's the vehicle.
10:10That's the vehicle?
10:11Yeah.
10:11Yeah.
10:12Saw some video of it.
10:13And you know what this does to these rural communities, Mark?
10:16The community is going to shock.
10:19Because these types of crimes, especially the violent type crime, is really unknown in these areas.
10:27This is a very quiet community.
10:30And the entire Rio Claro district would have been shocked to hear the news.
10:35This is an area where everybody knows each other.
10:39And this type of crime is really unknown.
10:42So, we hope that the police would do their work and, you know, that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
10:49It leaves a family in agony and pain.
10:53And this is the vehicle being removed.
10:55So, another family in agony and pain.
10:58Which is why I said at the start, we have, you know, sad news all around.
11:04Yeah.
11:04And as I said, I think, you know, with the extension of the state of emergency, you know, the commissioner says they're hopeful that they can put a further dent in crimes like this, you know, organized crimes, persons who are taking jobs for hire, and so on.
11:22These criminal networks that are working in the underworld, you know, to, you know, as you said, to create more havoc and sadness in the lives of many families.
11:34Of course, you have had on Tobago.
11:36Which is why I have categorically stated over and over on this program that I support the state of emergency.
11:44Because we've had too much to handle as a country.
11:47We've had too much blood on our streets.
11:49We've had too many hits on lives.
11:52And too many families in pain and agony over the years.
11:57And, Mark, we've always fallen in the middle of it.
12:01Right?
12:01You know how it is to go and feast.
12:03You know, Mr. Andy's wife is a very senior teacher at her school.
12:09You know how difficult it is for us to go and feast her, just to extend our commiserations with her.
12:16It's very difficult.
12:17And we are in the middle of it.
12:19All right?
12:20So, that is why I have continued to support the state of emergency.
12:24Yep.
12:25All right.
12:26So, as we talk about, you know, homicide, there's also the problem of narcotics on the nation's streets.
12:35And also firearms and officers of the Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Task Force.
12:43South, working in collaboration with a specialized unit of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, seized over 108 kilograms of high-grade cannabis value.
12:52Approximately $11.9 million on November 1st, Friday, that's the seizure there.
12:58The intelligence-led operation, which took place between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m., was coordinated by Senior Superintendent Maynard Wilson, Superintendent McKenzie, and ASP Pitt, and was spearheaded by Inspector Goddard and Acting Sergeant Foster under the direct supervision of PC Passat.
13:16We understand that officers received intelligence around 8 a.m. of a cream-colored Nissan Almera, reportedly conveying firearms and narcotics along the Churchill-Rosevelt Highway.
13:29Acting on intelligence, they proceeded to 30-range Trin City.
13:33And apparently, the driver of that vehicle became a bit suspicious, seeing the police in his rearview, and he sped off.
13:40Of course, he abandoned the vehicle near the Trin City traffic lights.
13:45Sorry, in the Trin City Mall area, he noticed the police at the Trin City traffic lights.
13:51And he's also known to the police.
13:53He fled.
13:53Police later discovered 179 packets of Colombian creepy cannabis, with a combined width of 108.89 kilograms.
14:05Of course, if you have any information about this suspect, you are asked to contact 800-TIPS or the police at 999.
14:14Commendations to the police in terms of the seizure.
14:17And, Mark, this is organized crime, right?
14:20You look at that quantity of marijuana, cannabis, and these are paid for in Forex, foreign exchange.
14:28And, therefore, the persons behind this operation, they're really organized and they're well organized to bring narcotics into the country.
14:36It leads the country of important foreign exchange.
14:41And, of course, at the lower levels, as distribution takes place throughout Trinidad and Tobago,
14:47there's violent crime and arms and ammunition involved in the distribution process.
14:52Yes, most definitely.
14:53And we've seen, really, a ramp up by police making some huge seizures over the last three, four weeks.
15:01Yeah.
15:01So, definitely something that they're going to be continuing across all fronts, not just narcotics and firearms,
15:06but those suspects wanted for various crimes, was the commissioner would have indicated a little while ago
15:14that they continue to look at these criminal networks and all those who are hiding will be found and brought to justice.
15:22Yeah, and this is a great effort to, you know, get into the gang structure and dismantle it
15:29and, you know, ensure that a state of normalcy is returned to Trinidad and Tobago
15:36and that we end the scourge of violence against the citizens of this country.
15:41Most definitely.
15:42All right.
15:42So, it's day 109 of the state of emergency.
15:46We want to bring you up to speed with some of those figures.
15:50Number of operations, 7,843.
15:55Target priority offenders, 2,649.
15:59Searches conducted, 52,168.
16:03Traffic operations, 5,272.
16:06Total persons arrested, 3,518.
16:11Traffic offenses detected, 31,174.
16:15Firearms recovered, total 195.
16:18We had a rise there in revolvers of 50.
16:20Ammunition recovered, a total of 2,523.
16:24A rise in 12 gauge of 133 rounds.
16:28A rise in 0.38 of 164 rounds.
16:31And a rise in, sorry, 0.22, 57 rounds.
16:36Dangerous drug seized, continues to go up.
16:38That is now 789,212.88 grams of cannabis and 8,951.99 grams of cocaine.
16:49Of course, the other two remain the same.
16:52Captain.
16:52Yes, so very good work by the police officers and we, you know, when we see the results published, that is hard data to allow citizens to understand that their objectives to be achieved.
17:07And these are the results and, therefore, you know, continued support is necessary.
17:13Continue to notice the pushback from the policing aspect of our streets in terms of roadblocks.
17:25But persons must understand that this is just part of all a whole set of elements that have been deployed as strategies in the fight against crime.
17:37Yes, and as we continue to talk about the fight against crime, of course, officers in the West Eastern Division Task Force, they conducted a roving road check on Saturday between the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
17:49And in so doing, they held two persons, an 18-year-old of Blake Extension Avenue, Sangu Gandhi, charged with the possession of a firearm and the possession of ammunition.
17:59And three rungs of .38 ammunition and two rungs of 9mm.
18:04And also a 22-year-old man of Moulchan Street, Guaikok, Sangu Gandhi, was arrested in connection with several reports of housebreaking and larceny.
18:12And there was also an exercise conducted by the Western Division yesterday between the hours of 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. by members of the Western Division Task Force, led by ASP Aguilera, Inspector Grant, and Sergeant Dominic.
18:25Sanctioned by Senior Superintendent Williams, officers conducted surveillance exercises at Upper Dundonnell Street St. James, which led to the arrest of a suspect in connection with a breach of protection order.
18:37Then around 7.30 p.m., acting on intelligence, information officers proceeded to La Hockett Branch Road Glencoe near the Point Cumana Regional Complex, where they discovered a silver and black revolver loaded with five rungs of .38 ammunition.
18:51And they also, at 8.15, the officers conducted a siege along the Old Digger Martin Link Road near Acton Court, which led to the discovery of two apparent gold rings hidden in a KFC box near a trailer flatbed.
19:04The items were seized as evidence.
19:06And then there was also another exercise conducted where the suspect was held in relation to an attempted kidnapping of some sort.
19:17Right, and so these are results of ongoing intelligence-driven police operations, and we see them, and we need more.
19:25And we just have to continue to support the police service, because, Mark, in law, they are the only agency that is given that job of, you know, taking the fight to the criminal element.
19:40And so we continue to support, motivate, and ask officers to continue to serve Trinidad and Tobago, and to take us to that point where we could be comfortable.
19:51But before I go quickly, Mark, I just wanted to extend congratulations to Acting Sergeant Zahir Ali on his new posting.
19:59I always follow, legally speaking, Wednesdays.
20:03I've learned a lot from the gentleman, and I wish him well in his new posting.
20:08All right, good afternoon to you, Acting Sergeant Ali.

22:35isolation from family, and threats,
22:37all designed to shatter a woman's spirit.
22:42Psychological abuse is a devastating reality for many.
22:45Understanding this is the first step to recognizing hidden suffering
22:49and offering a lifeline to those in need.
22:52Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
23:12I'm your host, Mark Bassan, of course,
23:13joined today by Captain Valance Ramburato
23:15with the Hunter's Search and Rescue Team.
23:17And I do believe you're going to take us through
23:19the month of October, missing persons.
23:21Yes, sure, Mark.
23:23And for the month of October,
23:25we had 31 reports of missing persons.
23:29And thus far, we have a large number of persons
23:33still to be found.
23:35That number is 15.
23:37As for November,
23:39we haven't had a report of a missing person.
23:41We just received a report of a young girl
23:45who still hasn't arrived home as yet,
23:47but we will deal with that harm.
23:49Still have to do the processing of the people.
23:53But that young girl is from the Rio Claro District.
23:56And we still have outstanding 15 missing persons
24:00for the month of October.
24:02So we still have Mr. Nichols,
24:06who is Louis Nichols.
24:09We've tried our best,
24:10every effort to find him.
24:11He's from the Mount Hope District.
24:13Very elderly gentleman.
24:16He went missing since the start of the month.
24:18And we've not been able to locate him.
24:20We've checked some of the urban city centers.
24:23So if you spot him,
24:26please call your nearest police station
24:29or 799-1453.
24:32Similarly, we had no progress
24:35on Mr. Christopher Rampasad,
24:37another elderly gentleman,
24:40and went missing early in,
24:44this is quite September,
24:46from Penile area.
24:48We have no information,
24:49no leads on him.
24:50And so persons from that area,
24:53if you spot him,
24:54please call the Penile Police Station
24:56or 799-1453.
25:00And then we have Andy St. Bernard.
25:02We've not been able to make progress on him.
25:05The word we're getting is that he's not alive.
25:09He's from the Vesigni area.
25:11And we're working with the police there
25:13in Guapo and Labrie.
25:15What we thought were leads
25:16we could have pursued this week
25:18turned out not to be confirmed leads.
25:24And therefore,
25:25there is still speculation
25:26that we have to continue to search
25:30for Andy St. Bernard.
25:32So if you have information,
25:33please call Andy St. Bernard.
25:35I'm sorry,
25:36Labrie or Guapo Police Station

27:59in Mathura
27:59she's a very young girl

28:0716th of October
28:08and we have no idea
28:10where she may be.

28:15a group of girls
28:16from this
28:17Northeastern district
28:19who get together
28:20and plan their activities

28:29for a few of the girls

28:40that the family
28:42of Julian
28:43were contacted
28:44and they submitted
28:46DNA samples
28:47because her body
28:50was found
28:51in Blanchiches
28:52and the police
28:54believed
28:55that that body
28:56found in Blanchiches
28:59would have been
29:00that of Julian Calise
29:02so that process
29:03is ongoing

35:15alright
35:15so last Friday
35:16there was a
35:17commendation ceremony
35:18held
35:19by the
35:21Commissioner of Police
35:22at the
35:22Police Administration
35:23Building
35:24in Port of Spain
35:25let's take a look
35:26we have all
35:31made an oath
35:33to
35:33serve this
35:35great country
35:36and while
35:38others
35:38might run
35:39away from
35:40danger
35:40it is the
35:42true police
35:43officers
35:43who run
35:44into danger
35:45and put
35:46their life
35:46on the line
35:47you are the
35:48people that
35:49we are celebrating
35:49here today
35:50our
35:51Commissioner of Police
35:52has made it
35:53his mantra
35:54to ensure
35:55that
35:56we really
35:57continue
35:58to celebrate
35:59our officers
36:00those who have
36:02gone
36:02beyond the call
36:03and I hope
36:05and I hope
36:05that as we
36:06continue
36:06to do so
36:08that you
36:09would continue
36:10to be
36:10the lighthouse
36:11that would be
36:12an example
36:13for the
36:14younger officers
36:15to follow
36:16as officers
36:17who
36:18today
36:19we commend
36:20because of
36:21your bravery
36:21because of
36:23your call
36:24and understanding
36:25that the badge
36:26is one thing
36:27but the heart
36:28behind the badge
36:29is what we
36:30celebrate
36:30we are really
36:31proud of you
36:32we want to say
36:33thank you for
36:33serving
36:33we want to say
36:35we really appreciate
36:36all that you have
36:37done
36:37and putting the
36:38police service
36:39in the front line
36:40we are celebrating
36:41you today
36:42and may God bless
36:44you as you
36:44continue to serve
36:45across each division
36:47whether beating
36:48a tactical unit
36:49CID
36:51anti-kidnapping
36:52special branch
36:53or whatever unit
36:54you belong to
36:55you have shown us
36:57here today
36:57that excellence
36:59is not confined
37:01to a single
37:02uniform
37:02or single unit
37:03it is a culture
37:06it is a commitment
37:07and it is a calling
37:09to each of you
37:12your actions
37:13have not gone
37:13unnoticed
37:14you have reminded us
37:16that policing
37:16is not just about
37:17enforcement
37:19it is about
37:21service
37:21it is about
37:24integrity
37:24it is about
37:27showing up
37:28time and time
37:29again and again
37:30when no one
37:31is watching
37:32and doing
37:33the right thing
37:34let me be clear
37:37commendation
37:39is not a reward
37:40it is recognition
37:43and it is a recognition
37:45that you have
37:47raised the standard
37:49that you have made
37:50the Triantobago police service
37:52a better place
37:53for us
37:54and that you have
37:55reminded us
37:56that the badge
37:57that you wear
37:58what it truly means
38:00to your families
38:01who endure
38:02those long hours
38:03the missed birthdays
38:05the silent worry
38:06we thank you
38:08your sacrifice
38:09is woven
38:10into every success
38:12that we celebrate
38:13today
38:13as commissioner
38:15I am proud
38:16as a citizen
38:19I am grateful
38:20but as your colleague
38:23I am inspired
38:24let this ceremony
38:27not be the end
38:28of your story
38:29but a chapter
38:31in a legacy
38:32of service
38:33that will echo
38:34long after
38:35the sirens have faded
38:36congratulations officers
38:39stand tall
38:40today
38:40you have earned it
38:41commissioner of police
38:48there
38:48Alistair Guevara
38:49and of course
38:50DCP Junior Benjamin
38:51speaking to a number
38:52of officers there
38:53who received
38:54commendations
38:54and as you said
38:55it's a culture
38:56it's commitment
38:57it's a calling
38:58for service
39:00and of course
39:01integrity
39:02and DCP Benjamin
39:03said
39:04it is not about
39:05the badge
39:06it is the heart
39:07behind the badge
39:08and so you know
39:09the commitment
39:10and the passion
39:11is the
39:12commendations
39:13to all those officers
39:15yes congratulations
39:16to all those officers
39:17alright
39:17I think we have
39:19our first caller
39:20on the line
39:20caller good evening
39:21and welcome
39:21to be on the tape
39:22yes yes
39:24does anybody
39:26know what happens
39:27to all these drugs
39:28that are seized
39:29by the police
39:29is that your question
39:32does anybody
39:35know what happens
39:36to the drugs
39:37after they are seized
39:38by the police
39:39is there any other
39:40question you would
39:41like to ask
39:42before we answer
39:42those questions
39:43caller
39:43hello
39:45yes is there
39:46any other question
39:47you'd like to ask
39:47before we answer
39:48the first question
39:49no
39:50alright thank you
39:52alright so my
39:53understanding is that
39:54when drugs are seized
39:55of course they are
39:56kept in an evidence
39:58area of a particular
39:59police station
40:00right
40:01pending the outcome
40:03of the investigation
40:03of course
40:04when the matter is called
40:05and persons are charged
40:07the quantity
40:08quantity of drugs
40:09if it's a large one
40:10they will have to
40:11obviously
40:11you know make
40:12arrangements for it
40:13to be brought to court
40:14as an exhibit
40:15now there have been
40:17in past
40:18talk that
40:19maybe they need
40:20to find one
40:21specific area
40:22to have these
40:23and other illegal
40:24items
40:25you know held
40:26so it avoids
40:28this confusion
40:29having things left
40:30in a police station
40:30we had an incident
40:32a couple weeks ago
40:33where narcotics
40:34went missing
40:35and an officer
40:37was apparently
40:38later
40:39held
40:41and charged
40:41for that
40:42so it's a good question
40:43it begs a good question
40:44Kola
40:45definitely it's something
40:47that maybe the authorities
40:48might need to look into
40:50yeah and
40:51to the Kola
40:52you know
40:53we know there's a
40:55property room
40:56in every station
40:56and recently
40:58an attempt
40:59was made
41:00to breach
41:00the particular
41:02protocol
41:02and procedure
41:03associated
41:04with storing
41:05narcotics
41:06and in that breach
41:08an officer
41:10was subsequently
41:12charged
41:12so there is
41:14an area
41:14and Mark
41:15I agree with you
41:16because these
41:16large quantities
41:17of drugs
41:19could be
41:20you know
41:20incentive
41:21for somebody
41:22to do wrong
41:23and so you know
41:24a proper area
41:24to store it
41:25maybe a national
41:26center for it
41:28yes
41:28and you know
41:29it will be easier
41:31for them
41:31to get to the courts
41:32as exhibits
41:33until the case
41:34is finished
41:35and I think
41:36at the end
41:36of the case
41:37the narcotics
41:38are destroyed
41:39following a particular
41:41procedure and process
41:42all right
41:43thanks a lot
41:44all right
41:44we have another
41:45caller
41:45good evening
41:46and welcome
41:46to be on the chair
41:47hi good afternoon
41:50good evening

44:50I thought you say
44:51you went to the beach
44:52with your parents
44:53who's you
44:54it's me
44:55Larry
44:56from online
44:58welcome back to
45:22Beyond the Tape
45:22I'm your host
45:23Mark Bassan
45:23of course
45:24joined today
45:24by Captain
45:25Valance Rambarat
45:26of the Hunters
45:27Search and Rescue Team
45:28and I did tell you
45:29before I started the show
45:31about so many accidents
45:34over the weekend
45:35it's usually more heightened
45:38on the roads
45:39you have more accidents
45:41on the weekends
45:42and we had a couple
45:43we wanted to show you
45:44of course
45:45the first
45:45in Boodoo Trace
45:46in Debe
45:49it appears to be
45:50a police vehicle
45:51no this is an ambulance
45:53oh this is
45:54the ambulance
45:55that went down there
45:56yeah
45:56so the ambulance
45:58happened to be
45:59off the road
46:00near that house
46:01and we had a member
46:03who passed
46:04through there
46:05and had stopped
46:06but things were
46:06under control
46:07and here you see them
46:08the ambulance
46:10had patients
46:11in it
46:12and then
46:13this accident
46:15occurred with the ambulance
46:16so here it is
46:17thank God
46:17the patients
46:18were safe
46:19our member
46:19reported that
46:20and they were safely
46:22removed from the ambulance
46:23and you know
46:25the caution here
46:26is these ambulance
46:27would move at high speeds
46:29and something
46:30would have happened
46:31thankfully it did not
46:33jeopardize the lives
46:35or smash into that post
46:36that electrical post
46:38that you're seeing there
46:39but it was able to get down
46:41into I guess
46:41a little pitch
46:42a very comfortable
46:43resting position
46:44they're avoiding
46:45the post
46:46and the sinus
46:46indeed
46:46yeah
46:47but I'm rather unfortunate
46:49but Mark
46:50there's
46:51you know
46:52there is this thing
46:52with driving
46:53with your vehicle
46:54your windows up
46:56and you're listening
46:57to your radio
46:58and you're not able
46:59to hear the sirens
47:00many drivers
47:02have reported this
47:04and you know
47:05you have to
47:06you have to
47:06play radio
47:07so that you know
47:08you can hear these sirens
47:09when they're coming
47:10and you
47:11you take
47:11evasive action
47:13make sure you give them
47:14access on the roads
47:15yes certainly
47:16then there was also
47:18a three car accident
47:19in Olsen Road
47:20Arima area
47:22I'm seeing
47:25what appears to be
47:26a fire of some sort
47:27so I imagine
47:28there was
47:29some kind of explosion
47:30when the vehicle
47:31would have
47:32would have crashed
47:33and there's
47:33one or two other vehicles
47:35so you're seeing
47:35flames
47:36yeah
47:37in front of one
47:39of the vehicles
47:39and the lighting
47:40is a little bit bad
47:41and of course
47:42the video's not
47:43all that good
47:44but you can see
47:44two vehicles there
47:45one next to each other
47:47and there's probably
47:47a third vehicle somewhere
47:49three vehicles there
47:50three
47:50yeah
47:50so you're not sure
47:52we know the one
47:52on the right
47:53is
47:53was in the accident
47:56and there's a maxi taxi
47:59here in front too
48:00so it appears
48:01in a collision
48:02one of you
48:03may have caught a fire
48:04may have caught a fire
48:05you know
48:06and we hope
48:07that they all
48:09were safely
48:11accounted for
48:12and you know
48:12that there were
48:13no broken limbs
48:14or so
48:15but this is
48:17an old town road
48:18yeah
48:18yeah
48:18so
48:19okay
48:19all right
48:21and then we also
48:22had an accident
48:23in the Laramene area
48:25by cross-crossing
48:27there
48:27that intersection
48:28or that
48:28what some people
48:29call the pretzel
48:30yeah
48:31the pretzel
48:31but
48:32we are hopeful
48:34that there was
48:34nothing major
48:36or at least
48:36persons were not
48:38hurt badly
48:39but of course
48:40the fire services
48:40were quickly
48:41on the scene there
48:42and we're assisting
48:45all personnel
48:45you can see
48:46one of the vehicles
48:46there
48:47I'm seeing a red one
48:48across the median
48:49across the median
48:50and you see
48:52the police vehicles
48:53there
48:53you will see
48:53another vehicle here
48:54right
48:55I saw this earlier
48:57Mark
48:57and I was wondering
48:58what would have
48:59caused this collision
49:00yes
49:00it appears
49:01that these three vehicles
49:02because one is
49:03off the side
49:03there
49:04one is on the median
49:05and one is next
49:06to the car
49:08that has crashed
49:09there
49:09you can see
49:09with the bonnets
49:10up
49:11so this is
49:12a well regulated
49:13area
49:13not known for accidents
49:15and it shocked me
49:15that an accident
49:16took place
49:17in this area
49:18and you know
49:20somebody may have
49:21made a major mistake
49:22for this collision
49:23to have occurred
49:24certainly
49:25then there was
49:26a fourth
49:27at the
49:28San Fernando
49:29bypass
49:30in St. Joseph
49:32right
49:33this is actually
49:35cross crossing
49:36yeah
49:36this one
49:37this is a different
49:37angle of the accident
49:38we were just
49:39speaking about
49:40so we haven't
49:41gone to the other
49:41one yet
49:42so yeah
49:43you can pretty much
49:44see
49:44that is the vehicle
49:45that crossed
49:45smashed into
49:47the other vehicle
49:47yeah
49:48and
49:50this is the one
49:51in St. Joseph
49:52this is the one
49:53so I know
49:53this is not
49:54San Fernando
49:54bypass
49:54this is St. Joseph
49:56as in St. Joseph
49:56going east
49:57along the eastern
49:58main road
49:59and if you go left
50:00you go up
50:01into St. Joseph
50:01Maracas
50:02continue to cure
50:05so you can see
50:06here
50:06when that vehicle
50:07overturned
50:09wow
50:09it seems to be
50:11a truck
50:11is it a truck
50:12a small
50:12five-ton
50:13yeah
50:14it's a van
50:15a treat-on
50:16a treat-on van
50:17yeah
50:17yes
50:18it appears to be
50:19that
50:19so certainly
50:20we hope for that
50:22all the occupants
50:23or the lone occupant
50:24of that vehicle
50:24would have been
50:25rescued
50:26safely
50:28but certainly
50:29there is that
50:30need for us
50:30to exercise
50:31urgent caution
50:32on the nation's
50:34roadways
50:34and we will
50:35let's tell you
50:36especially at the
50:38end of the week
50:39into the weekend
50:40you know
50:41there's more of
50:42I want to take the
50:43term from ASP
50:44pejorification
50:45over the weekend
50:46and we have to be
50:46cognizant of
50:47on the roads
50:48when we are driving
50:49yeah
50:50and Mark
50:51had I not been
50:51on this program
50:52I would not have
50:53been aware
50:53that there is
50:54that trend
50:55that accident
50:56will start
50:57on a Friday
50:57and continue
50:58throughout the weekend
51:00right
51:00and you have
51:02to ask yourself
51:03why
51:04and how could
51:05this be prevented
51:06and Mark
51:07one of the things
51:08our team would do
51:09we tend not to be
51:12reactive
51:13we tend to be
51:14proactive
51:15and we look at
51:16these things
51:17and say
51:17okay
51:18how can we get
51:19our population
51:20to be cautious
51:22and to be safe
51:23at all times
51:24and therefore
51:26what we do
51:26from time to time
51:28is that we take
51:29our safety courses
51:30to our schools
51:31and that has been
51:33well received
51:35by the students
51:35and the staff
51:37at the schools
51:38and last week
51:39we did have one
51:40at the
51:41St Mary's
51:43Anglican Primary School
51:44in
51:45Tacarigua
51:46fairly large school
51:49and we took
51:49or we were
51:52invited to their
51:53career day
51:53and we had
51:55a huge impact
51:56on the students
51:57Mark
51:57students want
51:58to know about
51:59torch lights
52:01we teach them
52:02how to have
52:03their own
52:03safety kits
52:04at home
52:05in the first
52:06you know
52:07a first aid kit
52:08where you could get
52:09safety
52:12equipment
52:13and things
52:14if you're feeling
52:15sick
52:16or if you have
52:16a cut
52:17and everything
52:18related
52:19torch lights
52:20in the home
52:21and we
52:22try our best
52:24to teach
52:25the young kids
52:26that safety
52:27is very
52:28very important
52:29of course
52:30they always
52:32are intrigued
52:32with our
52:33equipment
52:34on display
52:35because we have
52:35the best
52:36we have
52:37the latest
52:38and you know
52:40we have our radios
52:41we have our
52:41GPS systems
52:42to show them
52:45we have our
52:45little stove
52:46there on the
52:47gentleman's
52:48right side
52:48that is what
52:50we use for
52:51cooking
52:51and it's always
52:53a good teaching
52:54learning experience
52:55for students
52:57and coming
52:59out of the
52:59discussion
53:00on accidents
53:01we hope
53:02that this
53:04attempt to reach
53:05out to our
53:05student population
53:07to edify them
53:08on the
53:09basic safety
53:10needs
53:11in a
53:11household
53:12that you
53:13know we
53:13could transfer
53:14that knowledge
53:15and experience
53:16we have
53:16to ensure
53:17that they
53:18take steps
53:19to protect
53:20their own
53:20lives
53:21no hard
53:22driving
53:22when they
53:23get a vehicle
53:24that they
53:25must you
53:25know always
53:26be vigilant
53:27in the
53:27household
53:28or wherever
53:29they're going
53:29because you
53:30know things
53:31will happen
53:32and you have
53:32to avoid
53:33these things
53:34from happening
53:35yeah and I
53:35know that you
53:36know the kids
53:37are certainly
53:37very curious
53:38about what
53:39you guys do
53:39and they
53:41view it
53:41like an
53:42adventure
53:42even
53:43yeah we
53:43make it
53:44into pieces
53:44in the
53:45forest
53:45the rivers
53:47and so on
53:47you know
53:48crossing using
53:48various equipment
53:50it's always a
53:51fascination
53:51for children
53:52yeah so when
53:54we show them
53:54the harness
53:55and the rappelling
53:55rope and the
53:56rappelling
53:57o-ring
53:58or even a
53:59simple thing
53:59as teaching
54:00them what is
54:01a snake
54:01proof
54:02boots
54:02yeah and
54:03we let them
54:04know we
54:05just don't
54:05use water
54:06boots to
54:06go in
54:07we use
54:07snake proof
54:08boots
54:09means that
54:10we're taking
54:10a measure
54:11to protect
54:12ourselves
54:12while we
54:13out there
54:13as well
54:14as so it
54:15is always
54:16exciting
54:17something as
54:18simple as
54:19a hammock
54:19yeah right
54:20to demonstrate
54:21to them how
54:22we sleep
54:23at night
54:23you know
54:24these things
54:25are really
54:26good teaching
54:27learning aids
54:28and you
54:29don't get
54:29anybody
54:30you know
54:30being distracted
54:31or touching
54:32one another
54:33they are all
54:33focused
54:34laughing
54:34having fun
54:35they want
54:36to touch
54:37this touch
54:37that we
54:38allow them
54:38to but
54:39it's always
54:40about engaging
54:41the students
54:42and hoping
54:42that something
54:43will grow
54:45into their
54:46practice
54:47of being
54:48keeping safe
54:49right all right
54:50we have our last
54:51caller on the
54:51line caller good
54:52evening and welcome
54:53to be on the
54:53tape
54:54good evening
54:55good evening
54:55mr.
54:56and mr.
54:57I want to
54:59latch on to
55:00one of the
55:00questions
55:01previous
55:03caller acts
55:03of what
55:04we do
55:05with the
55:07drugs
55:07that has
55:08been
55:08concentrated
55:09and I
55:12want to
55:12juxtapose
55:13that
55:13parliament
55:15on
55:15Friday
55:16where
55:17a lot
55:18of
55:18customs
55:19sees
55:20alcohol
55:21basically
55:23were given
55:24out
55:25to
55:25some of
55:26the ministers
55:27and parliamentarian
55:28and I
55:29wanted to
55:30ask
55:30if we
55:31are not
55:31too sure
55:32when guns
55:33are seized
55:34and marijuana
55:35etc
55:36and drugs
55:36are seized
55:37if a similar
55:38sort of
55:38disposal
55:39is done
55:40if they
55:41don't tell us
55:42what they're
55:42doing with
55:42I would
55:43tend to
55:44think the
55:44same way
55:45that
55:45got lots
55:47of alcohol
55:48and the
55:49mayor
55:49got lots
55:50of alcohol
55:50they have
55:51to tell us
55:52about
55:52and have
55:52a nice
55:53evening
55:53thanks a lot
55:55of course
55:55we don't want
55:56to jump to
55:57any conclusions
55:57on this show
55:58as it relates
55:59to where
56:00illicit drugs
56:01when
56:02nurses go
56:03and who
56:04might get
56:05them
56:05but it's
56:07a concern
56:08of course
56:08across the
56:09board
56:09when things
56:10go missing
56:11they have
56:12to account
56:12for it
56:12in some
56:13measure
56:13just like
56:14I don't
56:15know where
56:15the information
56:16came in
56:16relation to
56:17the alcohol
56:20being given
56:20to ministers
56:21and so forth
56:22and I don't
56:22want to be
56:23presumptuous
56:24to say that
56:25I have seen
56:26anything about
56:26it
56:26so you know
56:28that's a
56:28very touchy
56:29situation
56:29and a subject
56:30matter
56:30that we
56:31have to let
56:32you know
56:32investigations
56:33take place
56:34properly
56:35and people
56:35have to be
56:36charged
56:36I have no
56:36knowledge
56:36I always
56:37often wondered
56:38what happened
56:38to it
56:39I was in
56:39China
56:40a couple
56:41years ago
56:41returning
56:42I was
56:43presented
56:43with a
56:44gift
56:44of
56:44alcohol
56:45and
56:45you know
56:46that I
56:47was stopped
56:48and told
56:50that I
56:50couldn't bring
56:51that to
56:51Trinidad
56:52and Tobago
56:52or leave
56:53the country
56:53with it
56:54and I
56:55proceeded
56:55you know
56:56to give
56:56a step
56:57out of
56:57the line
56:58I give
56:59it to
56:59a worker
56:59all day
57:00and I
57:00said
57:00you know
57:00rather than
57:01having
57:02custom
57:02seize it
57:03I just
57:03presented
57:04her
57:04and
57:04somebody
57:05who is
57:05unknown
57:06as a
57:06gift
57:06but I
57:07often
57:07wonder
57:08you know
57:08what happens
57:09to it
57:10and it
57:11is not
57:11illicit
57:12in the
57:12sense
57:12that
57:12alcohol
57:13is
57:13legal
57:14in Trinidad
57:14the
57:15activity
57:16is
57:17whether
57:17the issue
57:18really
57:19is
57:19what is
57:20allowed
57:21from a
57:22customs
57:23point of
57:24view
57:24into the
57:25country
57:26so you
57:26know
57:26sometimes
57:27you know
57:28the requirement
57:29is 750ml
57:30yes
57:30yes
57:30anything
57:31you
57:32charged
57:32additionally
57:33you have
57:34to go
57:34into the
57:34line
57:35but they
57:35do allow
57:36the 1L
57:37now
57:37and they
57:37don't
57:38trouble you
57:38they do
57:39they do
57:39but I mean
57:40they give
57:41way a little
57:42bit
57:42but sometimes
57:43you may bring
57:43in too
57:44much
57:44and some
57:45has to be
57:45seized
57:46and I
57:47have no
57:48knowledge
57:48of what
57:49is done
57:50with it
57:50yeah
57:51certainly
57:52and Kuala
57:53we are not
57:54saying that
57:54it's not a
57:55question that
57:55needs to be
57:55asked
57:56we're not
57:56saying it's
57:57something that
57:57we have to
57:58look into
57:58but I
57:59think tomorrow
58:00we're going
58:00to probably
58:01be able to
58:01answer that
58:02question
58:02much better
58:03for you
58:04so when
58:04we're on
58:05tomorrow
58:06at the
58:06same time
58:06at 6 o'clock
58:07you can
58:07listen in
58:08of course
58:09the person
58:10who's going
58:10to be here
58:10is going
58:10to shed
58:11light on
58:11that
58:11so I
58:12just want
58:13to let
58:13you know
58:13of course
58:14remember
58:15repeat
58:15tonight
