01 November - National Afternoon Forecast presented by Jonathan Vautrey
Transcript
00:00Hello there, a very good afternoon to you, and welcome to November.
00:04This first weekend of the month is quite a changeable and mixed one overall.
00:09Already to kick off Saturday we've seen some heavy showers, spells of rain around, particularly
00:13wet across Scotland first thing this morning, and this band will continue its way north-eastwards
00:18as we head this afternoon, particularly over the Northern Isles, Orkney and Chetland seeing
00:22quite a lot of rain today.
00:24Elsewhere, there will be some sunny spells in between the showers that emerge, but particularly
00:28for Wales, parts of southern England, though showers could turn quite heavy this afternoon
00:32with some hail, maybe even some thunder in the mixture as well.
00:36Temperatures ranging between around 11 to 15 degrees Celsius, which isn't too far off
00:40what we'd normally expect for the start of November, but with some quite blustery winds
00:44around right across the UK, it is probably going to be feeling a touch cooler than that
00:48when you do eventually step outside.
00:51Our rain across the Northern Isles will eventually move away as we head into this evening, and
00:56there will be some clear spells throughout the evening as well for many areas.
00:59However, overnight we're going to see another band of rain spreading its way eastwards across
01:03the UK, this again turning heavy at times, maybe with some further rumbles of thunder
01:08in the mixture as well.
01:10If you do hold on to some of the clearer spells though, temperatures will be dropping down into
01:14single figures overnight, so a little chilly in places, but with the breeze that's still
01:18in play, we're probably not going to see too much in the way of frost as we start off
01:22Sunday morning.
01:24Do be aware, this band of rain will take its time to clear off first thing on Sunday, so
01:29particularly for south-eastern England, it could be quite a wet start to that second
01:32half of the weekend.
01:34And we'll see further frequent showers pushing into north-western Scotland again heavy at
01:38times, thunder in there, and this time coming with some coastal gales for the most exposed
01:43areas as well.
01:45Temperatures tomorrow generally are notched down compared to the values that we're seeing
01:48today of 10 to 13 as your best hopes during the afternoon, but there will at least be
01:54some sunshine if you are stepping outside, so as long as you do have a little bit of
01:58a coat on, it shouldn't be too bad overall.
02:00However, as we head into the afternoon and evening, the cloud will be building in the west,
02:05first for Northern Ireland, but then spreading into many other areas of the UK as we head throughout
02:10the night, this coming with more areas of rain as we head into the start of the new week.
02:16All associated with some weather fronts that are spreading their way in, courtesy of this
02:19next area of low pressure that is arriving from the Atlantic.
02:23This low actually contains the remnants of ex-hurricane Melissa.
02:28It has now undergone its extratropical transition, so it's no longer a hurricane and is significantly
02:33weaker than what it was when it passed over the Caribbean.
02:37However, because this low pressure is sticking with us into next week, it does mean it's going
02:41to hold onto that rather unsettled, changeable theme right across the UK.
02:46A lot of ice bars on the chart here indicating that it is still going to be very windy at
02:51times, but with the winds coming in from a south-westerly direction, it is actually going
02:55to be feeling notably milder as we head into next week, but we'll have plenty more updates
03:00on all of that, so do subscribe to the YouTube channel and we'll see you again later on.
03:03Bye-bye.
