01 November - National Evening Forecast presented by Jonathan Vautrey
Transcript
00:00Hello there, a very good evening to you.
00:03After a showery Saturday, there are further spells of rain on the cards for some of us
00:07into the second half of the weekend.
00:10Our area of low pressure is now clearing off from northeastern Scotland, so it will be
00:13turning drier for the Northern Isles overnight, but we've got our next occluded front just
00:17beginning to swing through across the Republic of Ireland, and that will eventually move
00:21particularly towards England and Wales this evening and overnight.
00:25This showery rain could turn heavy at times with some squally winds, maybe some rumbles
00:29of thunder in there as well as you are sleeping.
00:33There will still be some clear spells in between all of that, and so temperatures will be dropping
00:36down into single figures overnight, a little chilly in places, but still quite a breeze
00:41around and that's going to be mixing up the air, so there shouldn't be too much frost to
00:45kick off Sunday morning.
00:47A band of rain though will take some time to clear off, and so particularly for south-eastern
00:52England, it's going to be quite a wet start to Sunday, again some heavy pulses of rain
00:56possible.
00:57And further frequent showers are going to be spreading into north-western Scotland, these
01:00again heavy with hail, now even some further thunder, some coastal gales around the outer
01:06Hebrides and the highlands as well.
01:09Elsewhere there will be some sunshine developing, and so if you manage to get out in that and
01:12away from the breeze a bit, it will feel okay overall, but still likely to need a coat.
01:17If you are stepping outside, temperature is generally only around 10 to 13 degrees Celsius.
01:24The cloud will be building out towards the west as we head later on in the day, initially
01:28for Northern Ireland where outbreaks of rain will arrive, but that's going to spread eastwards
01:32across many areas as that front moves across the UK.
01:36It's being driven in by this area of low pressure, which is actually the remnants of ex-hurricane
01:42Melissa.
01:43It's significantly weaker now compared to when it was over the Caribbean, now that it's
01:47transitioned into a more mid-latitude low pressure system.
01:51But since it's pushed towards the UK, it is going to be continuing that unsettled theme
01:55as we head into next week.
01:57A lot of isobiles on the chart here indicating that Monday is going to be a very windy day
02:01for many of us.
02:02But those winds coming in from a south-westerly direction mean that it's filtering in some quite
02:07mild air for the time of year.
02:09And so, in contrary to where we're starting off Sunday morning on Monday morning, we're
02:14going to be in double-digit figures for the vast majority of us.
02:19That does come with quite a lot of cloud on the scene and is going to be fairly dreary
02:23for many.
02:24Outbreaks of rain pushing their way in from the west, particularly heavy over some hills,
02:28the likes of Erri, the Pennines, seeing a decent amount of rainfall.
02:31The further east that you are, you might stay a little drier, perhaps a few glimmers of sunshine
02:36managing to poke through the cloud here as well.
02:39But still, those blustery winds right across the board, gales in exposure as well.
02:44Still though, coming in from that south-westerly direction, so temperatures are going to be
02:4915, 16 degrees Celsius, well above where we'd normally expect them to be for the start
02:53of November.
02:54We'll have plenty more updates, of course, on what you can expect as we head throughout
02:59the rest of next week.
03:00So subscribe to the YouTube channel for those.
03:01We'll see you again later on.
03:02Bye-bye.
