00:00Project One Way.
00:12What do you think our next challenge is going to be?
00:14Nothing with innovation.
00:17Real fabric.
00:18Listen, do I do one tablespoon of coffee or do I do two?
00:23Because it's not difficult.
00:25I guess I'm going to do strong.
00:27During the last challenge, I was one of the bottom three.
00:31And I almost like, my pants, seriously.
00:35Because I want to make it to Bryant Park.
00:36I really want to show people what I got.
00:39Oh, yes, though, the coffee you made is kick.
00:43I'm getting a little tan right here.
00:45I'm really mad that Keith left because we would have been still roommates.
00:49But now I'm with three new roommates.
00:52And it's kind of like the first day all over again.
00:54But there's only four guys left.
00:56So I'm definitely proud to be one of the last four standing.
01:01You guys ready to head to Parsons so we can get done with Miss Heidi?
01:07All right, let's go.
01:08Let's go.
01:09Let's go.
01:09Let's go.
01:09Let's go.
01:10So before we talk about your next challenge, let's bring out the winning and losing designers' models.
01:27Leigh-Anne, you were the winner of the last challenge.
01:39So you have the option of swapping models with a fellow designer.
01:43Your model was Carolyn.
01:44Carolyn, if you decide to stay with her, Alyssa will be out.
01:49What do you want to do?
01:51I'm thrilled to have Carolyn as my model, so I'm going to keep her.
01:57You can do it one way.
01:58That means that we'll stay you out.
02:08Bye, Alyssa.
02:14Okay, are you ready for your next challenge?
02:16Yes.
02:16Well, let me bring out a special guest to fill you in on all the details.
02:30It's just a little old me.
02:33Hi, Heidi.
02:33Hi.
02:34I want to welcome our very own Tim Gunn.
02:37Thank you, Heidi.
02:38Designers, for this challenge, you will be designing for a fashion legend.
02:42Maybe an older celebrity.
02:48Who knows?
02:48I'm just so relieved that we're not going to be designing an outfit for Tim Gunn.
02:53And I'm taking you to meet this legend now.
02:56So, everybody up.
02:57Let's do it.
02:59You guys have fun, and I'll see you on the runway.
03:01All right.
03:01Thanks.
03:02Bye.
03:02All right.
03:03Bye.
03:06I think Mary-Kate lives down here.
03:11She does, actually.
03:12She told me to tell you that she wanted to see you today.
03:15I have not a clue where we're going.
03:17My first thought about a fashion legend is Mary-Kate Olsen.
03:22I want every challenge to be involved with Mary-Kate.
03:24I want to marry Mary-Kate.
03:27Who doesn't?
03:29Besides Tim Gunn.
03:30Feels good to feel the fun.
03:32I'm from around here, and I know that we were in the meatpacking district.
03:36So, then I'm thinking, okay, the meatpacking district has serious major league designers there.
03:41We arrived at this beautiful showroom, and we're like, what's going on?
03:53It's Project Runway, so anything's possible.
03:56I'm just freaking out because the colors are beautiful, and I'm like, okay, well, what are we going to do exactly in here?
04:03Designers, we are in the offices of a fashion legend, so let's welcome her.
04:14Oh, that's great.
04:15Hello.
04:15I got kind of teary-eyed because this is the biggest opportunity that's come to me ever.
04:34I really love Diane von Versenberg, so it's big.
04:39Hello.
04:40Hi.
04:41I was at a loss for words.
04:42It was like a dream come true.
04:44I mean, seriously, she is one of the living legends of fashion.
04:48The magnificent Diane von Versenberg.
04:50How are you?
04:51Good.
04:52How are you?
04:53Wonderful.
04:53We're thrilled to be here.
04:54Well, designers, I'm very happy that you're here today, and I have a great, great challenge for you.
04:59Today, I will be asking you to create a look for my fall collection, inspired by the movie Foreign Affair.
05:10The character is Marlene Dietrich, who I think is the most glamorous woman in the world, and she is a singer, a performer, or maybe she's a spy.
05:19And she starts in Berlin, and she has to escape to Shanghai to end up in New York.
05:26It's the end of the 30s, the 40s, and you can see in the back a few samples of it.
05:33I will say, no designer in history understands how to work with prints in different colors the way that Diane von Versenberg does.
05:40And so that's why you will go to the sample room, and you'll be able to pick up some of my fabrics.
05:46Yes, Diane has arranged for you to visit her sample room.
05:48Yes.
05:49But before we go, Diane has a very special announcement to make.
05:53Yes, indeed.
05:54Thanks to my long relationship with American Express, the winning look will be produced and sold exclusively to American Express card members.
06:07Thrilling.
06:07Part of the proceeds will go to the CFDA Foundation, so we will make a lot of people happy.
06:14This is thrilling, isn't it?
06:15Yeah.
06:15Oh, my God, yes.
06:17It's a dream come true.
06:18I mean, Diane von Versenberg, American Express, CFDA, this is huge.
06:23This is what Project Runway is all about.
06:25Good luck.
06:27And I see you on the runway.
06:29Diane's our guest judge.
06:30All right?
06:33Off we go, everybody.
06:34Okay, good luck.
06:34See you later, Diane.
06:35Bye.
06:36Bye.
06:36All right, designers, your 15 minutes begins now.
06:48The DVF sample room is amazing.
06:51There were just bolts of fabric, and you know it wasn't cheap.
06:54I was in heaven.
06:56Ouch.
06:58I immediately run for this really gorgeous print.
07:02I love Diane von Versenberg's print, and I really want to win this one.
07:06Bad.
07:07I would be happy to win this one, and that's it.
07:11I'm sorry.
07:13Tim looks scared on my stomach.
07:15I am frightened.
07:19Let me get it off the shelf, can we?
07:21Get someone to help you, Stella.
07:22Somebody needs one.
07:23Your shelf is not going to come out, and you can't get anyone to help you.
07:25Move along or something that you can...
07:26I see my fabrics right here in front of me, and they're all in the same row.
07:30Here, Stella.
07:31Here, Stella.
07:32Oh, my God.
07:33You're a powerhouse.
07:34I think I got it.
07:35It's a good thing Diane wasn't there watching this, because her fabrics, I'm sure, are her
07:40babies, and she would not have been happy seeing all this stuff flying all over the place.
07:45Designers, you have less than five minutes remaining.
07:48You should all be cutting.
07:49Good heavens.
07:51Wow.
07:52I want to be different, so I find this black mohair for a jacket, and then I find some silk with
08:00all of these fireworks on it.
08:02Number one is Marlene Dietrich.
08:04Number two, I can work off some sickening pants.
08:07Got to win it.
08:09Designers, that's it.
08:11Time.
08:12Done.
08:13Okay?
08:14All right.
08:15Let's go.
08:16I finally have a winning garment.
08:32It's such a great relief knowing that I have immunity, but I fully intend to push the boundaries,
08:39because I still really want to win while having immunity.
08:43All right, designers, you have your fabric and your notions.
08:47There is a lookbook for each of you.
08:50Use it thoughtfully, all right?
08:52So you have until midnight tonight.
08:54Thank you all.
08:55See you later.
08:56Thanks, Tim.
09:00As I go through Diane von Furstenberg's lookbook, I notice how a lot of her looks are layered,
09:06and so it was a great opportunity to do two or three pieces, but we have a 12 o'clock deadline,
09:11so this is going to be definitely a tight one.
09:14Is everyone doing three pieces?
09:17I'm trying to.
09:20You making a dress?
09:21Yeah.
09:22I'm making a jacket, a top, and a skirt.
09:24That's crazy.
09:25I just want to get a really, really good dress together.
09:28I'm inspired by 1940s Shanghai, and not try to do three horribly crafted pieces in less than nine hours.
09:38Be quiet over there, Suede.
09:39You all right?
09:40Yep.
09:41Are you doing the vest too?
09:42Yeah, I was going to do a jacket, but it was too much.
09:43It's too much pressure.
09:44I am focusing my look on Berlin and camouflage, masculine-inspired fabric.
09:58Suede is just focused on what Suede is here to do, working on his look and hoping that Diane von Furstenberg adores it.
10:03I am surprised you chose black with all of that color happening.
10:08I'm thinking about putting this in her hair.
10:11Yeah.
10:12I thought you might want to step back.
10:15You might need to use that editing.
10:17I want to win so bad.
10:20Like, I've been on the chopping block before, and, you know, I'm known to just kind of throw up the hot, you know, the neon colors.
10:28And so I kind of want to give more of a basic silhouette, like a spy or undercover or something.
10:33But I'm a risk-taker, and, you know, I like to show versatility and not just another pair of the same pants like somebody else does.
10:45These are great fittings.
10:47I believe I could win this challenge because it's a lot of androgynous wear, and that's my entire look.
10:54She's a spy, and she's trying to keep her cover.
10:58And I'm going to make the coat and then the shirt and the vest.
11:01As of right now, pants are done.
11:04Aren't these great?
11:05I love the fabric.
11:06This is very well.
11:08And it has stretch to it, so it's really good.
11:11Looks like a pant.
11:12What is this fabric?
11:14It's fireworks.
11:15Horrible.
11:16Why did she pick fireworks?
11:18Oh, say can you see?
11:23The perception with Terry is that she just keeps pulling out the same look.
11:26I mean, it's the same tired one-trick pony act with the blazer and the pant.
11:30All right, next stage.
11:31Do you know what you're making of?
11:40A jacket and a dress.
11:42How about you, Terry?
11:43Coat.
11:44Shirt.
11:45Pant.
11:46Beth.
11:47What are you going to do?
11:48Do you know what you're going to do yet?
11:49Yeah.
11:50Look cool.
11:51You're not going to tell us.
11:52I didn't want to tell Leanne what I was doing because it wasn't Leanne's business.
12:02And also, I don't trust Harry.
12:04I don't ask for details.
12:06I mean, you're making a dress.
12:07Okay, great.
12:08I don't care.
12:09But we're at that stage.
12:10Yeah.
12:11I know.
12:12I know.
12:13The competition is heating up and people are feeling it.
12:15I see it.
12:16Cato may be tripping too.
12:18Let me see.
12:19What are you making?
12:20It looks like this.
12:21I'm making the vest.
12:22I'm making the baddest vest.
12:23You want to make one, make one.
12:24We'll see who turns out to hop on the runway.
12:27It's just really interesting to see people getting really competitive and closed off.
12:35It's every man for themselves right now.
12:39Coming up on Project Runway.
12:41You didn't even use, what, two yards?
12:43Yep.
12:44I didn't make three pieces.
12:45It's a lot of pressure.
12:46I like it.
12:47Ooh, hot steam, hot steam.
12:58What's all about this blue?
12:59That's really pretty.
13:00This one's dark and mysterious.
13:03Diane's fall collection is entitled A Foreign Affair, which is pretty much the story of this
13:09traveling woman who's kind of a spy.
13:11She's kind of glamorous.
13:12She goes from, like, Berlin to Shanghai to New York.
13:15And I'm working on a jacket, a turtleneck, gloves, and an A-line skirt.
13:21You see how there's a legend of a designer critiquing your work tomorrow.
13:25And this is a prize you actually really, really, really want.
13:27Yeah.
13:28This is a prize better than immunity any day.
13:30I don't think anybody wants her reading them tomorrow.
13:34I'd just like to say it's just too much.
13:40I'm really pushing in this challenge.
13:42I want to just blow Diane away.
13:44So my design is a beautiful, flowing evening dress.
13:48I want it to be something that's chic, something that's very wearable for anybody of any size.
13:53And just to stand out.
13:55Oh, pressure.
13:57I hope I'm doing the right thing.
13:59Going against the grain over here.
14:02Diane von Furstenberg needs to see what my design aesthetic is and how it mixes with hers.
14:08So I'm making three pieces, a cape, a vest, and a pair of pants.
14:13Is this one?
14:15No.
14:16Shanghai.
14:19I know it.
14:21Watch!
14:22I decided to do a backless, oriental-inspired top.
14:26So it's essentially a shirt, but it wraps around the back.
14:29And I like the direction that I'm going in.
14:31I believe that I can make it all the way through as a top contender for this competition.
14:35It's Bryant Park all the way.
14:37I kind of wish I didn't have stretch, but it's the color that I want.
14:42My design is a cropped trench coat with a long silk gown.
14:49I'm really not so much a femme fatale, sad to say.
14:53I've actually never been out of the country, so I have had no foreign affairs.
15:00I would love to be a spy.
15:04Secret, ancient, the animal.
15:06And I would hunt everybody down like an animal.
15:11I'm a spy.
15:12But maybe you're a performer as well.
15:16Yes.
15:19I would love to be a spy, but I'm fearful that my blue hair might give me away.
15:27I like it.
15:28Oh, you know?
15:30Is it bulky?
15:31No, it doesn't look bulky, no.
15:33I like it.
15:35Billy, you didn't even use, what, two yards?
15:38Yep, I didn't make three pieces.
15:40No, I'm saying it's good.
15:41Oh.
15:42I just, I love the fabric.
15:45Everyone's doing layers and multiple items, and Kenley likes a dress.
15:49If she gets called out about it, I won't be surprised, but that's Kenley.
15:54Actually, I didn't work with this fabric, because there was only a yard and a half.
15:58I'm like, I'm going to make this work, because I'm obsessed with this print.
16:02I know what she's getting at, but at least I'm going to stand out the most.
16:06Rather than something that looks completely half-assed.
16:16Hi everybody.
16:17Hi Tim.
16:18Hi Tim.
16:19How is everyone?
16:20Very good.
16:21Very good.
16:22I'm here to check in with you.
16:23Slade.
16:24Hey Tim.
16:25How are you doing?
16:26Good, I'm doing really well.
16:27Talk to me.
16:28I was really inspired by the Berlin, and...
16:30Yeah.
16:31Um, I thought this kind of like gave a camouflage-y feeling.
16:35You look perplexed.
16:37I will tell you this.
16:38Visually, I'm not getting it.
16:41It wasn't sexy enough, so what I did is I'm adding this little, like, well...
16:47It's actually a separate base?
16:49It's going to be all one.
16:50Okay.
16:51Just think about the shape of the vest to the dress.
16:55Okay.
16:56And just be careful there isn't too much fullness in here.
17:00Thanks.
17:01Tim questions if I have a little bit too much fullness, so I'm making some adjustments.
17:07I'm here to work it out, because Suede's going to Bryant Park.
17:12Leanne.
17:13Hi Tim.
17:14This color is phenomenally beautiful.
17:16I love this fabric.
17:18And then I'm doing a jacket over the top of it, but...
17:23I mean, I will say this.
17:24The dress has such a sublime shape.
17:27By comparison...
17:28Oh, yeah.
17:29This jacket is looking too long.
17:30It is too long.
17:31It just looks sloppy to me right now.
17:33And I don't...
17:34I agree with you.
17:35I don't want it to look sloppy.
17:36What if it were really shrunken?
17:39Yeah.
17:40Can we take the jacket off?
17:41Shorter.
17:42All right.
17:43You have thinking to do.
17:44Okay.
17:45Thank you so much, Tim.
17:47Hi, Joe.
17:48Hi.
17:49So this is Shanghai.
17:50This is Shanghai.
17:51I see it.
17:52My idea was to do a hooded shawl.
17:57Huh.
17:58I like the outerwear element with the pockets of the shawl.
18:00Yeah.
18:01Well, I'll say this.
18:02You're being ambitious.
18:03You're stepping up and out.
18:04Yeah, I hope so.
18:05That's what I was hoping.
18:06Can you pull all this off in a time frame?
18:08Yes, I can.
18:09Just watch your time.
18:10I know.
18:11It's slipping away.
18:12Yeah, it is.
18:13For everybody.
18:15Kato.
18:16I kind of wanted to do like a little three-layer look.
18:19Yeah.
18:20Just something kind of swingy.
18:23I love seeing this volume on the top.
18:26I have this yellow here.
18:27I did play with putting some more yellow under.
18:29What's the yellow doing?
18:30It has a little pop.
18:32It looks like a brass strap.
18:33You think so?
18:34Yeah.
18:35I thought of even putting the yellow under here.
18:38There, I respond positively.
18:40I really love my yellow.
18:41You know, it's growing on me the more I look at it.
18:43But I don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.
18:46Kato, thank you.
18:48Work, work, work.
18:49I will.
18:50Stella.
18:51How are you?
18:52Hi, Kim.
18:53I'm well, thank you.
18:54Good.
18:55Talk to me.
18:56Tell me what you're doing.
18:57Okay.
18:58She's a traveler.
18:59She's traveling.
19:00She's from Paris, right?
19:01Is that what Diane said?
19:02Berlin.
19:03Oh, Berlin.
19:04Okay.
19:05Whatever.
19:06She's a traveler, so I've got her in pants.
19:08Okay.
19:09And a vest.
19:10And there is a cape.
19:11And I might make a small shirt just to cover up the back.
19:15You want this to be cohesive.
19:18The last challenge, the big objection was that the skirt and the little biker vest top, they
19:24didn't find them to be cohesive.
19:26They were clueless because they weren't open-minded.
19:29Okay.
19:30And I think the stylist with the oversized moo moo dress and the waistband didn't know
19:35any better.
19:36Sorry, Rachel Zoe, we mean that only in the nicest way.
19:38No, I don't.
19:39I really mean it.
19:40Stella, time.
19:41Okay.
19:43Kenley.
19:44Hi, Tim.
19:45How are you?
19:46Good.
19:47I see Shanghai.
19:48Okay, good.
19:49So what are you doing at the waistband?
19:51This.
19:52I'm going to make a belt with this underneath.
19:55Nothing extra.
19:56No, nothing extra.
19:57Okay.
19:58I don't know.
19:59I loved this print and I wanted it to be simple.
20:01Well, it's Shanghai.
20:02It should be simple.
20:04But do you like it?
20:05Yeah, I really do.
20:06I mean, it's simple silhouette, but that's a plus.
20:09Well, it could go either way.
20:10Let me put it that way.
20:11Beautiful silhouette.
20:12Beautiful.
20:15All right, designers, you have until midnight tonight.
20:18Okay.
20:21Good night.
20:22Good night.
20:23Good night.
20:24Good night.
20:25Tim comes in and he likes the dress.
20:28He said it was a beautiful silhouette and it makes me feel really good.
20:32It's getting harder.
20:33Yeah, it is.
20:34There's more pressure.
20:35This is like bigger than big.
20:37Dude, it's huge.
20:38For me.
20:39The winner of this challenge.
20:40I know.
20:41Is going to be known by everybody.
20:42I know.
20:43I feel like I'm getting really emotional because it's a lot of pressure to design for someone
20:57this big and I've never done anything like it.
21:02I know a lot of the other designers have worked with big designers before I have been.
21:07I always have worked for myself or Walmart or something or Kmart.
21:12So this is huge.
21:16Coming up on Project Runway.
21:18A little crooked but I don't care.
21:1960 second skirt.
21:20Something like that.
21:21We're all screwed.
21:29So like the wind.
21:30So the cutoff time is midnight and really I don't think it's enough time.
21:34Because Diane Von Furseberg is very respected and the stakes are pretty high.
21:39I mean to be able to design a garment that goes into her collection.
21:42Everybody really wants to do their best.
21:47I like your white kind.
21:49It's kind of like fancy.
21:51But you got to think about who the guest judge is.
21:53I know.
21:54She's not rock and roll.
21:57The only thing that I have reservations about is the problems of the best because of the two-sided
22:03fabrics and one's heavier than the other.
22:06Everything else to me looks perfect and I'm not listening to anything.
22:10Peace out.
22:11Let's go.
22:12Sure we can't stay?
22:13This Diane Von Furseberg challenge is certainly the one that's the highest stakes for us all.
22:29So I'm just praying that the fashion gods are going to be on my side.
22:34Again, Tilly lace is ready.
22:35The things I have to do to cope with the ridicule.
22:38There's so much to incorporate in this one.
22:41The Memphis Hall and 1930s.
22:43Everybody and their mama got a jacket.
22:45I let you come there.
22:46I did something that I wanted to do.
22:48All right, let's go to Parson's.
22:51Good morning, everybody.
23:02Good morning.
23:03You have an hour to send your models to the Tressa May Hair Salon and the L'Oreal Paris
23:08Makeup Room.
23:10Use the bluefly.com accessories.
23:12Very thoughtfully.
23:13I believe that you have the ability to blow Diane Von Furstenberg's stilettos right off
23:20of those staggering legs of hers.
23:22Wow, everybody.
23:23All right.
23:24I'm sending in your models.
23:25Thanks.
23:26Hello.
23:27Hi.
23:28Good morning, ladies.
23:30Good morning.
23:31I still don't have a blouse yet for her.
23:33Yeah.
23:34Not, uh-uh, because it ain't finished.
23:35We're all screwed.
23:3760-second skirt.
23:38Something like that.
23:40I'm going to spill me in today.
23:42All the other designers are doing three-piece looks.
23:45I'm only doing a dress, but at least my garment's finished and it looks great.
23:50I really need to hem them, hem them.
23:52People are probably going to be sending unfinished garments down the runway.
23:55I just have, like, all these finishing details to do.
23:58I still have quite a bit of work left to do, but I'm pretty confident.
24:02It's just going to be stunning.
24:04I'm just really hoping that I can get it done in time.
24:06I have to figure out how I'm going to put you in here.
24:08I think suede's going to be in trouble.
24:10The dress is not flattering whatsoever.
24:13Yuck.
24:14There's a hem on here.
24:15It's just not working.
24:16I'm actually nervous going into this elimination because it is a dream to think I could be like
24:21Diana von Feistenberg.
24:22I want to have a line out that people know and recognize.
24:25So I definitely want to win.
24:27I want to win!
24:28I love that color.
24:29What do we do for hair and makeup?
24:31I like it up, off because of the turtleneck.
24:33We'll put this little hat, like, pin it on.
24:34Perfect.
24:35I love the eye.
24:36Yeah, it's kind of cool.
24:37Designers, you know what it means when I'm here at this hour.
24:41It means your models have to be runway ready in 10 minutes.
24:42I'll be back.
24:44It's a little tight, but it's good.
24:45I'm feeling good.
24:46It is a very polished look.
24:47So much so that it might get lost amongst the crap that's going down the runway.
25:01My God, it fits you perfectly.
25:03I'm feeling good.
25:05It is a very polished look, so much so that it might get lost amongst the crap that's going
25:12down the runway.
25:13My God, it fits you perfectly.
25:15It's perfect.
25:17I think that Joe seems overly confident in his design.
25:21Yes. Oh, wow, that's great.
25:24I don't know where this confidence is coming from, honestly.
25:27To me, it looks kind of like a cheap costume.
25:30I'm kind of surprised that Joe's still here at this stage in the game.
25:33You look great.
25:39Yeah.
25:40I am a little worried for Stella.
25:42Put it over you. Take your top off, put it over you.
25:45The vest was too bulky and made the model look big.
25:49I don't know what the judges are going to think.
25:51Designers and models, this is it.
25:54So follow me. We're going down to the runway.
25:57Give me a double high five. Give me a double high five.
25:59Bye.
26:03Is that Stella? Stella?
26:05We got to go, go, go.
26:07All right. I guess I'll be going.
26:11Coming up on Project Runway.
26:13It looks like a home ec project.
26:15Or Dracula.
26:16That's a bit too much.
26:18Did you get dressed in the dark?
26:27Hello. Hi.
26:28Hey, Heidi.
26:29Welcome to the runway.
26:30As you know, in fashion, one day you're in,
26:32and the next day, you're out.
26:34There are nine of you here, and after tonight there will be eight.
26:39For this challenge, you had to create a look for Diane von Furstenberg's ball collection.
26:44The winning look will be made available exclusively to American Express card members.
26:49And a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the CFDA Foundation.
26:54So I hope you came ready to wow us.
26:58Okay, let's meet the judges.
27:01First, we have top American designer, Michael Kors.
27:04Hey, guys.
27:05Hi.
27:06Hey, Michael.
27:07Filling in for Nina Garcia, Fern Malice, Senior Vice President of IMG Fashion.
27:12Fern Malice puts together the entire show at Bryant Park, so it's kind of exciting.
27:17And legendary fashion designer, Diane von Furstenberg.
27:21Hi.
27:22Hi.
27:23Well, we'll score your designs as they come down the runway.
27:26One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
27:30Let's start the show.
27:36I'm definitely taking a risk with this silhouette.
27:38I believe that it works well with Diane von Furstenberg's theme of foreign affair.
27:43I truly think that this represents me as a designer.
27:46My look has the whole 1930s, 1940s feel about it.
27:58The gown just looks so gorgeous on Carolyn, and she is playing the part of Seductress very well.
28:05I'm really happy with what I've done.
28:09So Vera gets on the runway, and she is hitting it.
28:13My outfit could either be Berlin or New York.
28:16I think Diane's gonna love it.
28:18Hopefully, I'll be up there as one of the top three.
28:25Looking at my garment on the runway, I just have to take both of my hands and pat myself on the back.
28:30I think that the look is something that Diane could actually use in her collection.
28:33I really think I could win this.
28:38When I see my garment come down, I love it.
28:40It looks just like something I would make.
28:42I want it to be represented on the runway as something that's chic, something that's very wearable.
28:46I think I'm gonna do good today.
28:48I am so in awe of my garment.
28:57Diane's gonna love my look.
28:58I saw her giving me a little googly eye when we first met her.
29:01She loves a tan, so it's in the bag.
29:09Yeah, Tia looks great.
29:11She's totally rocking the look.
29:13I love the silhouette, but I'm thinking Diane might be a little tough.
29:17I mean, this is for her collection, so I'm kind of nervous.
29:26As I see my garment come down the runway, I just think it's sharp and it's slick and it's badass.
29:32That garment has a lot of style and class.
29:35My dress is totally Shanghai.
29:41It's totally chic.
29:43I took a risk by making just one piece, but this is to sell.
29:48I want everyone to want this dress.
29:53We've scored your designs.
29:54Will the following designers please step forward?
29:57Terry.
29:58Jarrell.
29:59Lane.
30:00If I have called your name, congratulations.
30:13Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge.
30:16You can leave the runway.
30:17Thank you guys.
30:18The remaining designers have the highest and the lowest scores.
30:30One of you will be named the winner.
30:33And one of you will be out.
30:37Let's bring out your models.
30:38Okay, I would like to start with Kato.
30:47Tell us about your look.
30:48When Diane was describing this person, I thought of freedom and out of the spy game.
30:54You can relax and just enjoy yourself and be carefree.
30:56But I also wanted to have little elements of her travels like to Shanghai.
31:01Can we see it without the jacket?
31:03I do like the choice of bright yellow.
31:06It's very pretty.
31:08I think that the print is captivating.
31:10You do bring in that Shanghai influence and the kind of modern kimono wrap.
31:15It's international and it's New York.
31:17Thanks.
31:18The little jacket is really nice.
31:20Very.
31:21Very nice.
31:22I think it's great.
31:23That's very interesting.
31:25Joe.
31:26Well, I was very inspired by the Shanghai element of the foreign affair journey.
31:32So I did a Asian influence top and then I decided to take a bit of a risk and do a shawl with a hood.
31:40I don't like the open back.
31:43I agree with you.
31:44The hole in the back of the shirt, it looks messy.
31:46Even the way it criss-crosses and layers is a little odd in the back.
31:49Yeah.
31:50Because you have the pink belt that is shorter on one side than on the other, but then you look further down at the slit of the skirt.
31:56The right side is shorter than the left side.
31:58I don't think that it looks cohesive.
32:01It's just odd.
32:02You know when all the tabloids do the what was she thinking?
32:05This could be a what was she thinking from behind.
32:08So just don't show your back.
32:10Just walk out backwards.
32:12Ding, ding, ding.
32:15Kenley.
32:16I wanted to do something that I would normally do.
32:19I wanted it to be colorful and chic.
32:21I went with the Shanghai look, the spy look, the musician look.
32:25So I think I pretty much nailed it.
32:28Do you?
32:30I think it's a very pretty dress.
32:32I think you've made it very well.
32:34But when I looked at Diane's look book, I thought that everything was a bit more about layering.
32:40You did have a lot of layering.
32:42I'm sorry, Heidi, I don't want to interrupt you.
32:44But I thought that you needed just a dress walking down the runway and something with a little more color.
32:50So I thought you needed that.
32:52Alright, well I'm glad you figured out.
32:55It's a beautiful dress and it fits her nicely, but it's not that difficult in my eyes.
33:00It's very difficult to tailor this fabric.
33:02I mean, and you know, it's very easy getting away with just doing one dress.
33:05Right, I wanted to do the dress.
33:08I like this dress.
33:09Oh, cool.
33:10It's simple, it's pretty.
33:13You're true to yourself.
33:15It is actually made beautifully.
33:18And I think that you styled her up and made her a little bit of a Shanghai Lil, but it doesn't look like a costume.
33:26Very simple, but very chic.
33:27It's very wearable, saleable.
33:30Thank you so much.
33:36Stella, tell us about your look.
33:38This woman here is 1940s and she's traveling from Berlin to New York and she's a spy.
33:45I like the idea of mixing the tweed, which is a man's fabric, with a shiny fabric that looks a little bit like leather.
33:54But it's not a 40s cape.
33:56The 40s cape goes vertical like that.
33:58This cape goes...
33:59Like a magician's cape.
34:00Yeah, or Dracula.
34:02Stella, the tailoring is just not happening here.
34:06No.
34:07The crotch is just every woman's nightmare on how a pant would fit.
34:11It's like, hello.
34:14She's got something missing, if you know what I mean.
34:17You have, like, edgy taste.
34:19And I don't look at it and think it has any edge.
34:21And I think that's what you're about as a designer.
34:27Leanne, tell us about your look.
34:29My look is very relaxed and a perfect disguise.
34:35It's very slinky, seductive.
34:38I think it's a very pretty dress.
34:40And the yin and the yang, the man's jacket with the woman's sex, that's always nice.
34:45You really thought about something new and different.
34:48Both of the pieces are beautiful.
34:50I think you did a very good job.
34:52The ruffles down the back are a surprise,
34:54because you don't expect that when you see the dress from the front.
34:57And that brings very pretty softness to it.
34:59There's a lot of work in that.
35:00There's a lot of good design.
35:01Yeah, there's a lot of design in there.
35:06Sweet.
35:07I'm mad about camouflage, so I found this fabric,
35:10which reminded me of more of a modern camouflage.
35:13And the dress is very sexy underneath.
35:16When she turns to the back, it has a really beautiful scoop.
35:19She has no hips at all, and it's not a flattering skirt.
35:23It's too much fabric at the hips.
35:26Why'd you put a slit in that dress?
35:27Yeah, I could have lived without the slit in the back, too.
35:29I thought it would be sexy, because I was trying to take that entertainment side of it.
35:33But the sexy is that you have, like, the open back.
35:36That's a bit too much.
35:38I love the idea of a short jacket, but the herringbone just completely throws me off.
35:43You know, if someone really was wearing that, they would be just like,
35:47did you get dressed in the dark?
35:49I don't think it's that bad.
35:53Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
35:55We're going to have a little chat, and then we call you back.
35:58You can leave the runway.
36:09Let's talk about the designers that we did like.
36:12Let's start with Kenley.
36:13Kenley is a very simple dress.
36:15It was a very pretty dress.
36:17Well designed, and she fought for it.
36:20So, I like that.
36:21She handled the Asian influence really beautifully.
36:27One other piece with that, it would have been the home run.
36:32Leigh Ann.
36:33I loved it.
36:34I think it met the challenge.
36:35I think the dress had a lot going on, and it worked.
36:39She found a way to take the different influences, mix the whole thing together.
36:44Very Ingrid Bergman.
36:45You know, it has that kind of attitude.
36:47You had quite a lot of good design there.
36:52I like Cato's.
36:55I love the fabric that she picked.
36:57I mean, all the pieces in the design was interesting.
37:01When she took the jacket off, look how great the neckline was.
37:04Beautiful.
37:05Great.
37:06Great.
37:07Okay, let's move on to some of the designs we had some problems with.
37:12Suede.
37:13I don't know that he really designed a dress that was really very interesting.
37:17And then I just don't understand wearing that vest with that dress.
37:21Wasn't good enough.
37:22That skirt was bad.
37:24Because that girl...
37:25I mean, the model's this big.
37:26Yeah.
37:27Another one was Joe.
37:28Shanghai Joe.
37:29A little bit too Shanghai for my days.
37:30It was a completely different thing from the front and the back.
37:36The back was truly unacceptable.
37:39It looked homemade, really.
37:41The uneven hem on the skirt.
37:42It was messy, messy, messy.
37:43It's messy, and I also think that he really didn't think three-dimensionally.
37:48How does it look from every angle?
37:50That's how people get dressed.
37:51That's for sure.
37:52And here, that was not the case.
37:54No.
37:55And Stella.
37:56Stella with the cape, the magician.
38:00If you do a suit type thing, it has to be sharp.
38:04I think that the idea was good.
38:06I could see where she was going, but the execution was just not good.
38:10I think it was more Transylvania than it was Shanghai, let's be honest.
38:14Stella was not Stella.
38:16Okay, so we've made our decision.
38:20Okay, let's bring them back out.
38:23The six of you represent the best and the worst.
38:37One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
38:44Kato.
38:45You're in.
38:46You can leave the runway.
38:47And now for the winner.
38:51Diane.
38:52Congratulations.
38:53Leanne.
38:54You are the winner of this challenge.
38:57And now for the winner.
38:58Diane.
38:59Congratulations.
