00:00i went to the ballpark on june 12th which was a day game against the nationals
00:04and you know me john i try to go with an idea or two just in case something doesn't happen in
00:08the game you try to execute it beforehand and that was a point where blackburn had returned
00:12to the rotation pitched well they had six starters going well minaya was pretty close
00:17to coming back montas right behind them and my thing was how are they going to turn eight
00:22starters into five and then i got told by a couple of people who i called about this that blackburn
00:28was actually available if they want it and we posted a column in about the i mean a news story
00:33and about the fourth inning of that game in the sixth inning kodai singa covering first base
00:39blew out his hamstring so that story lasted as relevant for about 25 minutes 30 minutes
00:45and the mets pitching in particular nothing has worked for the last two plus weeks but the pitching
00:50in particular john has gone bad injuries canning mcgill singa setback for uh minaya and the guys
00:59who have pitched have not pitched well from the starters and then over burning the bullpens with
01:04short starts you know the game we play me and you at at the mlb network with brian kenney uh concern
01:11panic or doom why don't why don't i ask what's your level of mets now as we begin the month where they
01:17have to decide what are they doing at the deadline well we're certainly concerned i think we're
01:21bordering on panic at this point you you mentioned june 13th i do want to point out that was friday
01:26the 13th but that's not the reason they went south nor is it the fact that they honored pride day which
01:33i'm getting all sorts of tweets about that it's that they put up a flag of a pride flag instead of the
01:40american flag it's not that it's not that i want to walk i went for a walk with uh uh frank uh uh
01:48frank walks uh frank the tank uh it's none of that uh you know i they've regressed you could say they
01:55regressed to the mean they regressed to what's normal but it isn't normal to be the best team in
02:00baseball with a 45 and 24 record and since then be the worst with three and and 13 uh is it possible
02:08yeah i mean look in 2017 the dodgers uh were something like 90 and 30 something and they lost
02:1516 out of 17 and the yankees uh were terrible at the end of 2000 both teams made the world series
02:21it is a long season as they say that's baseball susan stuff happens but it is worrisome when you're
02:28talking about the pitching staff and and the way they've been decimated by injury and then a turn in
02:34performance i mean uh uh peterson was all-star worthy up until his last two starts uh unfortunately
02:42the injuries mcgill canning sanga uh and and you mentioned minaya was close to coming back when you
02:48wrote that story he's still close to coming back right still close i mean you know it's it's been
02:55quite eye-opening and and and pretty shocking steve cohen said it on twitter right he he never expected
03:01this i i really don't think anybody expected although people on twitter are telling me they
03:05expected it those are most yankee fans i think those are super geniuses uh just to put a a final point on
03:13it right is through the games of june 12th they were first in total era first and starter era and
03:21second and relief era all 289 or less in the in the 16 games since their last 641 in total
03:30era last in starter era 622 and 29 659 in reliever era i mean it has been a universal problem you
03:39know caused by injury cause you mentioned peterson you know blackburn after one good spot start against
03:45the dodgers hasn't been good since then montas one good one bad the one guy who's kind of going
03:50good is holmes and he's already 15 innings beyond whatever he's thrown in his life so you got to keep
03:55an eye on him as to your point minaya is still sitting out there now with loose bodies
04:01in his elbow and i think the cascade into their bullpen is a you know like we've seen brazaban
04:09take a big step back reed garrett take a big step back they kind of are desperate to win so you want
04:14to use your best relievers on the other hand we're in this situation so it leads to me john obviously say
04:19whatever you want about what i just offered but do you think that i know the trade deadline doesn't
04:25really really start until after the the draft which is the 14th and the uh the 13th and the 14th of
04:31july there's at least six starters uh six sellers maybe seven if you count the orioles does david
04:39sterns have to get pushy aggressive creative and just say i gotta find some arms now otherwise in the
04:45next two weeks things could get bleak he's not the pushy type i i don't see that from him he's not
04:51he's not giving up the big time prospects for a short-term solution uh that isn't him i i guess
04:58we shouldn't be shocked about the bullpen the starters while performing uh fantastically did not go long
05:05even when they were doing well and uh you know they were forced to use uh all their start all their
05:11good relievers stanick and garrett and brazaban a lot and uh they all look a little bit worn down
05:18uh they have some uh replacements available right uh budo nunez a couple guys uh diaz has been really
05:25good all along it's basically been diaz and soto carrying the team and you can't win with two guys
05:30one being the closer carrying your team um i just don't see it happening i think what we see and what
05:37they'll do is that rotation of lefty relievers that they've been throwing out there they might
05:42have now a rotation of regular relievers or other starters that they throw in there uh yeah we wouldn't
05:48have thought that they'd be at a deficit of starters because they did have very good depth
05:52in the rotation at one point it is not the case now and it is quite quite worrisome
