00:07henry with my guy tyler ward wardy is here fresh off of being at the stadium for the subway series
00:13hi first of all how you doing how's your weekend oh i'm great guys good weekend has been fantastic
00:18other than the mets dropping two out of three you know pretty good you know my football team
00:22won this weekend this sunday as well i can't complain about that i'm not even a jets fan
00:26by no jets jets jets jets they had a big win against the titans you know giants tonight we'll
00:31see what happens so all in all it's been it's been a fun weekend and i'm i'm excited to chop
00:35it up on
00:36the subway series i'm glad you had a good weekend despite the mets losing two out of three uh my
00:40weekend was pretty good too uh football team won as well so i can't complain about that well you
00:45root for the same team so that's right that is is that the reason for the fit today that might
00:49be
00:50i love that if you didn't know for those that don't for those that don't know dex is rocking some
00:54gorgeous you know black and yellow nikes right now too so he he's absolutely set to the minds
00:58right now so yeah i try i try i try people but the mets they lose two out of three
01:03to the yankees
01:04this weekend you were there for the finale what were the major takeaways for you in this series
01:08because it was an interesting series considering how it went with the mets winning the middle of
01:13these three games here but what was your major takeaway from this series uh biggest takeaway from
01:17the series is that you know contrary to heading into the in the series where i said i was fairly
01:21confident i thought the mets would win two out of three and it wasn't because of bias it was just
01:25you know the simple reality that this felt like a mets team that's kind of had the upper hand on
01:29the yankees not only this season but in years past you know these matchups regardless if the
01:33mets have you know been great on paper or terrible on paper they've still had that result that has
01:37found themselves more in the winning column so this series kind of proved that the yankees in the
01:41heart of their playoff run right now with the red socks right next to them with the rays right above
01:45them and they have a big matchup coming up they had to put a pedal metal and they did that
01:48and they
01:48pounced on nolan mcclain which was not ideal not happy to see that we'll talk more on that in a
01:53second but nolan had his essentially worst start of his career to kickstart the series on the 9-11
01:58ceremony game and then game two was a lot better than game three and game one obviously um zach
02:04thornton the big takeaway there's andy green something that we've talked about a lot dex letting
02:09his young kids actually have some runway right he goes to the mountain he says you know what kid
02:14will will keep you in the game and zach you know is emphatic you know yelling f-bombs with authority
02:18after he's gained those big outs against the yankees and you have to feel great about that
02:22for thornton who went seven strong and that's hold it to victory uh also another takeaway i would have
02:27on the posman is aj ewing finding his swing again yes you know i understand that he didn't hit much
02:31in game three but no one hit against ken schlittler who mowed everyone down dotting 99 until literally
02:37essentially his final out of the game so uh aj looked great carson bench looked awesome and i think a
02:44lot
02:44about the quote that juan soto made regarding carson over the past day which is that you know
02:48this isn't a surprise anymore you know he's a superstar like he's doing things that superstars
02:53do and to hear that from the 765 million dollar man as a rookie i can only imagine how bench
02:58feels i
02:59think that's pretty cool so these are just some of my big takeaways from the series how about you
03:02you know how bench feels he's like i want to get paid like you i want to get paid like
03:06a superstar
03:06he's on rookie minimum right now he's like yeah just just loan me a bone brother
03:11so one of my big takeaways too and i think coming into the series i was like okay how is
03:15the pitching
03:16going to look right we talked about that the other day how's the young starting pitching going to look
03:20so you can look at mcclain start and say ah that wasn't ideal but he's been a dog all season
03:25we've
03:26seen him look really really good fans know that they've seen this guy look really really good am i
03:30going to be disappointed about how he started against the yankees because we talked about how this
03:34is an opportunity for these guys in front of big crowds right no it's not a playoff game but it's
03:39a
03:39chance for them to show some things here that didn't happen i liked how the mets bounced back
03:43on saturday i absolutely liked that i liked how the offense bounced back but one of my major takeaways
03:47might come from the third game which the mets lose to nothing in the finale and what would that be
03:51dex christian scott i liked how he pitched battling it with camp so they like made a couple of bad
03:55pitches right didn't go well from him but you like the fact he had seven strikeouts pitched well through
03:59the six innings he battled he didn't let the game get out of hand he gave the mets a chance
04:04to stay in
04:04this game so for me i don't know i've been really impressed with this kid's makeup throughout the
04:10season and you're hoping that that can be a foundational piece for the mets going forward
04:15because we've talked about so many other names we'll talk about mclean we've even talked about
04:18tong a couple weeks ago right christian scott's kind of become forgotten guy that is now resurging
04:25he's had himself a solid year and so to go up against one of the best pitchers in the game
04:29best
04:29young pitchers in the game and camp schlitter and battle with him throughout i was really impressed
04:34with that from him now look you can look at some other players here and say the mets offense outside
04:38of saturday was not amazing right kind of weird series for juan soto going back to the bronx
04:45didn't do a lot at the plate you shut him up once yeah we'll take that we'll take that right
04:51and that's good enough and that's fans are good enough and listen you heard the booze you know we
04:54heard the booze there yanks oh i i promise i heard the booze we heard the booze and why wasn't
04:59even there
04:59yeah we heard the booze dex heard the booze all the way here in men i heard the booze all
05:03the way
05:03here but listen you know you can say it's kind of a quiet series baby you want that loud series
05:08from against the yankees i think this is fine for the mets they play competitive baseball for the
05:12most part i don't think you'd be mad at the series if you're a mets fan no i don't think
05:16you'd be mad
05:17when it comes to you know what the expectation was heading into the series it's not like the mets have
05:21the daunting pressure of oh we're pushing for for playoffs right now it was just about having a
05:25effort of a series and while obviously they didn't win more than one going back to what you
05:30said about christian sky i think is a very important point right scott this season is pitching right
05:33around a three and a half or just over a three and a half year ray and outside those two
05:37pitches were
05:37the first pitch that he threw to ben rice was just a bad placement splitter almost middle middle i mean
05:42you're a guy like rice who has north of 40 home runs he's gonna make you pay austin wells done
05:47just
05:47because he's like he's batting a buck 80 and he took a first pitch fastball never feel good about
05:51never feel good about giving up a bomb to austin wells even yanks fans are probably as much disbelief
05:55i will say this while at the game um there was a kiddo behind me i was sitting mainly a
06:00yankee section
06:01and right before the pitch was thrown he's like homer right away he called it so good who's this kid
06:07and the worst part is that was the only pitch that he called the entire game homer ahead of time
06:11so
06:11it wasn't he was it wasn't like he was just saying it on and on and on again i don't
06:15know i i don't know
06:16if he has this type of connection that we're unaware of with austin all i know is is that
06:20and they make me happy in the moment um but christian i would have turned around and glared
06:24at that oh i i did i gave him fist bump like with his what was smirk i was like
06:27that was a good call
06:28i was like i have to deal with that but christian scott though who i spoke to briefly on the
06:32field
06:32after the game i'm said he had a great start i mean he appreciated that and um to your point
06:36he
06:37looked good you know after he gave up those home runs he settled down it's funny after one of his
06:41big strikeouts on judge to kind of get him looking you could see the reaction on scott's face he was
06:46like you could tell he like sighed it really the relief he got a smirk and then a sigh he's
06:51like
06:51all right thank god we got out of that that was pretty good uh but you know christian is someone
06:55who when we look at his workload this year you know for his first full season backroom reconstructed
07:00tommy john surgery i would say that this is nothing short of a resounding success i mean he's going to
07:04probably finish the year with north of an 11k per nine walk rate has fluctuated as we know him but
07:08you
07:08know for a full for a first full season as he unstarted this rotation i think he really set himself
07:13up well
07:14for what can be built upon next year you know we think of when andy green first became manager of
07:19this mets team what was one of the first things they highlighted it was raving about christian scott
07:23raving about carson bench raving about the young kids that he's worked one-on-one with that we've
07:27seen in player development and scott in particular you know andy had his hands all over you know from
07:31the time of the inception of him becoming um you know head of player development and christian you
07:36know i reference this to all the time decks when he first got caught up by the mets in 2024
07:40and mind you he pitched solid yes he gave up a home run like every start he was dealing still
07:45with a partially torn ucl for over a year that the mets pushed over a year coming out of college
07:49from florida even and on top of it christian was putting up minor league numbers and no other starter
07:55in the minors was doing at the time if your name wasn't paul skeins i'd say that's decent category right
07:59so i think so yeah i think so too right so all in all i'm impressed with christian and i
08:04think the
08:04mets while i would have loved to see more offense they gave us some things to be continuing to look
08:09forward to as we build upon getting into 2027 and look for me it wasn't it's not even just today
08:14because if you look at his last three starts right 16 in his pits 16 strikeouts in those three starts
08:19so that's really nice you love the strikeout rate there from him a couple extra base hits and all
08:24those coming today uh there's seven walks 394 era look he's been solid he's gonna and he only walked
08:31like one batter today right yeah he did very good one batter today and so got seven yeah 143 batting
08:36average against nice in terms so you like the way he's been pitching in just the last three starts
08:40and you know what the other thing you like is we're talking a lot about this as we get to
08:43the
08:43end of the season guys like him finishing strong you want to see them finish the season strong you
08:49want to see this way they're finishing the season that's encouraging for the mets so for me with two
08:53out of three been nice absolutely warty the mets didn't get it but just seeing some of the young
08:57pitchers battle pitch well keep them in games some young players break out talked about aj ewing
09:03didn't look good through the month of august but now he's starting to come out you saw how he
09:06pimped that home run dare i say there's some there's some fans on x that were reacting to this
09:12and i see the parallel a little bit is like you look at aj ewing he's a multi-talented player
09:16he's
09:16you know a multi-war player in his rookie year and at the age of 22 that swing somewhat reminiscent
09:22of a pca i'm gonna say listen we might we might have him at home we might not be too
09:27upset after all
09:28maybe give it some time give it a merit let it marinate let's see how aj looks over the
09:31next two seasons next year as i told you the big thing for ages and not have a massive sophomore
09:36slump right can he continue to build upon this and not have you know what really weighs heavy on a
09:42lot
09:42of players shoulders after having a rather breakout rookie season especially for aj who wasn't necessarily
09:47expected to be at the big league level as soon as he was i had the thought heading into it
09:51because
09:51he was so dominant last year and great in spring training but for him to kind of leapfrog the way
09:56they
09:56did at time even guys like nick moribido that some people thought was more deserving at the time of the
10:01first half this year for him to jump and kind of in a way that zach thornton i think leapfrogged
10:06in a
10:06lot of ways how i thought he would not be in front of jonathan santucci this year right who we're
10:10going
10:10to talk more about in a little bit on this one and making this rotation the same applies with aj
10:14with kind of leapfrogging some other outfielders in the minors and now the big question is can he
10:19continue this pace and is this just the start of aj ewing blossoming into you know a multi-talented
10:25outfielder that's right up there with carson men's with guys that we don't want anyone else for
10:30the next hopefully at minimum half decade he'll sign for that every every day of the week he'll
10:35sign for that now speaking of young players who actually are moving on up which we like to see
10:41i know you're excited to see this we got to go back let's go back to the trade deadline oh

10:45we were right here right here when the mets acquired jefferson rojas in the cups if i remember correctly
10:51you weren't unhappy you were smiling you were sitting right here you were happy about all this
10:55this acquisition of the mets getting this guy who will immediately jump to becoming their number one
11:00prospect now all that happens and he goes down he plays a double a leveling you're got to be saying
11:04to yourself and fans are saying this too how's this all going to play out how's this all going to
11:10look
11:11how's this guy gonna adjust well well he produced yeah he produced just a little bit okay 21 year old
11:20shortstop third baseman wherever you want to put him he can play at both positions 29 games warty
11:27with binghamton let me hear it 280 average 929 ops folks hell yeah nine home runs okay just amazing
11:38overall double a numbers if you count it from when he still was with the cubs organization 272
11:41with 833 ops and 24 home runs that's over 120 games so you know what that means dex he got
11:47better
11:47once he entered the org got better when he had a little red hot mitch voight emilie petrie around
11:52him right from the jump you know playing with good players can help that absolutely that was the
11:56same rebel ponies team that back in i think early the summer we're north of 30 games below 500 now
12:02they're within like five or ten games right now it's all because of the success they've had to post
12:06trade deadlines but it's been a lot of fun to watch it's a lot of fun when you look at
12:09this with
12:09jefferson rojas i think it's exactly what you want to see when a guy comes into the organization
12:13okay yeah i'm 21 years old still have heard he's got some things to work out defensively
12:18but the bat which everyone raved about when you talk to them about jefferson rojas the bat's looking
12:23good and now he's getting promoted now he's going up to triple a syracuse and don't get to finish out
12:29the year there how excited are you about this opportunity for him with what we've seen him do
12:33at the double a level so i'm trying to somewhat temper expectations just because when you get excited
12:39about prospects you get pie in the face fast you know especially if they don't pan out the way
12:42that you hope but there's a reason why jefferson rojas is deemed as a top 80 prospect in all of
12:47mlb per mlb pipeline right now and when you look at his tools the great thing about him is he
12:52has a
12:52very compact swing he doesn't have this long and lengthy swing where i think it's going to have a
12:57massive adjustment at the major league level he's very concise in the way that he approaches the
13:00plate not only when it comes to making hits but also grinding out at bats for walks but it's a
13:05defense too i mean he's another guy that can comfortably handle whether it's short the hot corner or
13:09what very well could be his future position if it's not say emily and petrie out the jump who
13:13i've been raving a lot about that's at second base for the mets next year you know when we think
13:17of
13:17today subway series who was at second it wasn't marcus simming it was a brett baity what do those
13:22players have in common neither should be guaranteed a starting second baseman for the new york mets next
13:27season that's maybe that's a hot take i don't i don't think it's a hot take but that's you know
13:31that's just my i think there's a lot of fans that will not like to see either of them on
13:35the roster
13:35next right and i'm not saying that they need to go that far when it comes to making their decision
13:39at second but you know you want to move upward right if the mets are focusing on winning next
13:44season it would make sense to have a blend of their continued youth movement helping that be a factor
13:48where would the mets be they'd be so much worse without carson medge and aj ewing this year for
13:52example right you know they would not be nearly the defensive or offensive position that they've had
13:56with those great players throughout the year so i think you know for david stearns who has been
14:00known during his time in milwaukee to really gain success by building within the farm
14:05and trusting player development that needs to ring true as we get into 2027 when you have the
14:10influx of infielders that they have a real house at the forefront then you have mitch white right
14:14behind him you got a million petrie ran that conversation they're all three-headed monster
14:17sammy stefora the new york native is like i gotta get in that conversation soon too he wants to so
14:22absolutely so yeah i'm very excited to see what's gonna come of jefferson the final couple weeks of
14:27the year in syracuse now get a little cup of coffee there and then once we get to next season
14:31whatever that happens post lockout the mets are going to have some really fun decisions on their
14:36hands as long as these guys are healthy and ready to go good problems to have i know fans are
14:39going
14:39to say listen another thing is you can't keep everybody i always will say that but one of the
14:44things i've liked that david stearns and company have done with the mets you just mentioned it earlier
14:49with aj ewing but you're seeing this here with these young prospects hey guys are playing well let's
14:53move them up let's see what they can do let's give them an opportunity let's evaluate them further
14:57and then make decisions on that and let's put them around other good players you know why because
15:01competition is good sometimes oh for sure you know that's gonna especially when it's healthy
15:04competition yeah healthy companies you know like kind of like you know even baiting yentos they've
15:09been close for years yes it's kind of it's not like oh i'm praying on your downfall it's like okay
15:14you got a good game more incentive for me to try to do better step up my game exactly yeah
15:18feed off
15:18of each other yeah game is going to recognize game iron is going to sharpen sharpen even aj minter i
15:22remember
15:23earlier this year using the bullpen was saying how everyone's just feeding off of each other right now
15:26between myself brooks we we're all doing the same thing that's what you want and that's what you
15:31want as part of your culture so i think it's great for jefferson rojas to just come into the
15:35organization and obviously he had to produce right producing matters it's not just you know just being
15:40there and just saying hey because you're a top prospect you can get up there he had to produce
15:43he's done that well at the plate they're now going to try to see i think really what's going to
15:47come down to triple a level is okay we know you can hit we know the bat's good what's it
15:53going to
15:53look like for you defensively are we going to then hone in on you having an exact position
15:57and second base you mentioned that too there's a possibility for him there it's a lot of openings
16:02for the mets around second base also i agree with you nobody should be penciled in as a starter nobody
16:07should be penciled in completely agree with you if if simian or baity's penciled in while those
16:13prospects say looked good in a small sample size if there is a spring training or just we know how
16:18they
16:18looked from last season i think there's a little bit of a problem and that might be an understatement
16:23like the mets are making the same decisions that they made in years past where they're kind of
16:27hanging on to guys a little too long you know the simian contract i understand is difficult because
16:31the mets still have a couple years of around north of 20 million a year for a guy that is
16:35a shell of
16:35what he once was it's not going to be anything better than probably 650 ops when he's really doing
16:39his thing and he doesn't bring even the defensive value that is what warranted the initial justification
16:45as to why you you traded for him besides you know him having captain-like qualities during his time in
16:49texas so you know nothing personal gets marcus but you know if the mets aren't going to outright cut
16:53him then you have him ride the pine have him be more that veteran that can help uplift and do
16:58great
16:58in a more of a mentor role which i know he may not love at first but i think as
17:02time would go on
17:03he would be accepting and understanding of it given the stats of the club and he's still getting paid
17:08the big bucks so it's like it's it's that's what the money it's like i can only sympathize with him
17:12so much god forbid you're making 20 million set the bench okay so i'd like 10 percent of that
17:18i'll take five you know there you go perfectly fine we take that so jefferson rojas on his way
17:24to triple a several cubes exciting stuff there but some more exciting news around the mets young
17:28players as we got some awards handed out today oh mets minor league awards and two guys that we
17:35talked about about when we did what is the episode we did with uh with our guy earnest stuff shout
17:40out
17:40earnest stuff shout out to our guy earnest stuff you know shout out to him when we talked about
17:44the mets prospects we were most excited about and the guys we thought could really contribute
17:48next in 2027 well mitch voight your guy i should is that is that is he awarding he's awarding i
17:58like
17:58mitch voight a lot he's definitely awarding are we claiming him as your boy yet we could claim him
18:02as my boy okay we go ahead okay we can go ahead well this is not a sarcastic it's not
18:06as my boy
18:06for those that fall straight out of flushing usually when dexter says someone
18:10with my boy it's the opposite means i absolutely despise the individual so not the case today
18:14with mitch so that's usually that's usually the case but mitch voight he was named player of the
18:19year for the organization this year as one of the best prospects for the infielder who was
18:24hitting the cover off the ball oh a lot crazy a lot it's crazy numbers he's named organization's
18:31player of the year jonathan santucci was tabbed as organization's pitcher of the year another good
18:37year for a lefty pitcher for the mets here another year for somebody has a ton of strikeouts and
18:42amazing numbers for jonathan santucci let's start with mitch because the double a numbers oh please
18:48please let it rip man the double a numbers they're they look fake the rumble ponies it feels fake when
18:54you look at the slash line right 347 uh 430 517 and 29 games the guy's hitting 347 and he
19:06was batting
19:06400 for basically like yeah the first like north of a month was hitting everything yeah it all looked
19:11it all looked it all looked great for him how you were well ernest was very high on him let's
19:17be
19:17oh ernest was very high shout out to ernest ernest is like he's a lock on the roster next year
19:21and i was
19:22like i was like wow and i was like i think mitch will absolutely be on the team next year
19:26but i
19:26would still argue that a million petrie will be the first option for the things that i said i think
19:32petrie they have a little bit more of a willingness to be like we can kind of throw you in
19:36the fire
19:36sooner than maybe mitch to be fair you did and you said this at the time you were not saying
19:41that petrie
19:42would definitively be the long-term answer there right but you just thought he would be likely to get a
19:46shot first correct yes yeah which i thought made a lot of sense considering his profile but but with
19:54the way mitch void has been tearing the cover off the ball at the double a level for sure right
19:58and
19:59getting on base just overall which is something i like too so when you look at that 430 on base
20:03percentage i love that as well too how excited are you about that he as all the young prospects that
20:10we've seen here is now named player of the year for the organization i love it you know especially when
20:16it's a guy that i feel very confident is going to be impacting the mets the major league level
20:19hopefully as soon as next season you know i think of a guy who was playing today for the new
20:23york
20:23mets at the time i was talking to nick moribito because just a couple years ago he was mets minor
20:27league you know offensive player of the year took him a couple years and now he's hopefully a guy
20:31that'll impact the mets moving forward in 2027 for mitch you know now getting this award i think he's
20:36going to get to the big sooner than what moribito got and i also think that for mitch you know
20:40sky's
20:41limit this is another multi-tool player that came out of michigan second round a year ago drafted
20:47by david sterns the first draft pick by sterns that year and the rave about mitch out of college was
20:53that obviously he had a tremendous range with his defense uber athletic player that can run the bases
20:58unbelievably well the bats of ball skills is something that's just going to continue to adjust
21:02and in michigan obviously he had success there for sure with the bat especially his final year or so
21:07uh but to see how he transitioned from high a brooklyn this season which can be a difficult
21:12place to hit especially you know with the way that the wind blows there in brooklyn that's why when
21:15we saw a guy like aiden robbins who the mets drafted this year hit a bomb dead center brooklyn like
21:21a
21:21week or two ago i'm like that's kind of a big deal people don't do that often there nope so
21:24to see mitch
21:25have solid numbers but nothing jumping off the paper in high a to them moving up to double a and
21:30just
21:31saying i'm just going to be a phenom now i'm going to literally take over every single game that's where
21:35we're at now for mitch boy and a big takeaway from that two decks is that thriving with your
21:39surrounding right look at what we were just stating at the top jefferson rojas a million petrie what do
21:44these players have in common they're playing with him billy amick who just can't stop hitting home
21:47runs now triple a syracuse another great find at the deadline for david sterns in the mats so mitch is
21:53one of these guys who he has a fantastic head on his shoulders and i don't say that lightly you
21:57remember the last time i told you that yeah carson benj ran all over it so if i'm saying that
22:01about a
22:02there's a great reason for it and mitch has not only i think that all the media training already
22:07uh the charismatic personality um the one that's not going to be too high or too low and someone
22:12who's clearly thriving with the fact the mets are looking at him as a top prospect that he now is
22:18because when they first drafted him he wasn't nearly as coveted as he has now been over the past
22:22year talk about skyrocketing every year we see prospects blossom really make a name for themselves
22:27mitch voight has comfortably done that this year so the thing i was looking at i was you went back
22:32to him uh hitting in single a brooklyn and i said okay what was the home runs like for him
22:37there 11
22:38home runs now people look at his numbers and say he only had two in double a i don't care
22:43about any
22:43of that no the ops was 947 as i said the on base which is impressive to me at 430
22:49he's hitting just
22:51under 350 and there's almost like a 40 50 40 or 50 game difference too so the power may have
22:57come
22:57if the season was continuing right you might have seen some of that too right to to me what it
23:01was
23:01just he's got the at bats 118 at bats no small sample size right but the guys can hit he
23:09can get
23:09on base it's you got to be excited about this if it could be a complete hitter and maybe this
23:16is the
23:17part that earnest was so excited about right because maybe he's one of these true complete
23:21hitters coming up that you want to see from the mets and the power will come i think you'll see
23:26the
23:26powers he gets more comfortable at that level and guys to make that jump isn't easy i love that you
23:30brought that up too that jump that he made in season also not easy and guys that can just hurt
23:35you in various ways that's the most important thing you know we've been talking all year we
23:38versatility ever since i met you dex we've been talking about what do the mets need to do better
23:42something that the yankees still struggle with and that's having proper fundamental ball proper
23:46young players are you know multi-tool talented you're not just relying on a big home run swing
23:50no they could kill you on the bases they kill you with defense and mitch has all those qualities so
23:55um hopefully for his sake he continues to trend upward because he's absolutely going to be in that
23:59conversation pretty much immediately um depending on what second base will entail for the club as we
24:05get into next year now jonathan santucci who we also talked about and was on my list of prospects that
24:12could impact the mets next season 157 strikeouts that's more than one dex that was tied for the
24:22third most across all of major league baseball now we just saw a guy last year lead all of i
24:28said
24:29major league baseball minor league baseball excuse me soon enough it'll be major league baseball all
24:32of minor league baseball and strikeouts last year jonathan we saw that as a power pitcher now tong
24:37obviously had some things to work out has worked in that we've just seen him back up in the bigs
24:40leagues again this year late here in september but jonathan santucci power pitching lefty has had some
24:48of his issues with walks early in the season has cut that down and now you see him win this
24:53award
24:53this is another young pitcher another lefty you've seen zach thornton come up and do his thing
24:57that mess fans should absolutely be excited about oh no doubt i mean again i i've said it every single
25:02time i talk about jonathan but heading into the year i was so confident that he was going to be
25:06the
25:06next southpaw called out by the smets team all the credit in the world of zach thornton a leapfrogging
25:10the way that he did because zach's a bulldog but here's the thing why can't we have more of a
25:15great
25:15thing we have one southpaw that's cooking his homegrown talent now let's have the other and
25:18jonathan santucci because santucci's game is somewhat similar and also different than thornton you know
25:23they both work quick but santucci is known for the velocity a bit more zach is tapping more into 95
25:28which
25:28is exciting that means that things are trending upward from with velocity but santucci can comfortably sit
25:33there mid to high 90s on you which is great and his ability to not only pound the strike zone
25:37but to
25:37really dominate to get the swing and miss that's the thing like zach thornton's game is still developing
25:41as to how much is he going to be a power pitcher or is he going to be one that's
25:45just trying to induce
25:45fly outs or ground outs the way that he's doing it for santucci you know he wants to strike you
25:49at dex like that that's that's the game and it's you love to see that especially when he has the
25:54velocity and the authority with his off speed and breaking pitches on the mound to set everything else up so
25:59when we look at the rotation configuration for 2027 it really now begs the question what does this
26:04mean for jonathan santucci who had a roughly 12k per nine this season the miners do a sub five walks
26:09per nine again the numbers fluctuate that we saw throughout the year as a total on his era was
26:13just under four uh that we saw across both levels but really picked it up when five shutting his latest
26:19outing at the time i was talking uh i believe no walks or at most one to six strikeouts at
26:24least he
26:24look good uh for jonathan it's really about is he someone that can crack this team straight out
26:29of camp next year to be in their rotation do the mets want to position themselves where they have
26:33another young unproven starter from the jump impacting them can he do enough to say sway the
26:39mets and say justin war to be like you know what jonah you've been definitely trending in the right
26:44direction but jonathan is a more polished product is that the route that they would like to go it's a
26:48it's a great question that's a good problem to have it's a great problem to have i still think i
26:51wouldn't carry we talked about this in one of our previous episodes i wouldn't have carried
26:55i won't carry too many young pitchers right on the roster in the 2027 we i think both still agree
27:00they've got to go get themselves a frontline starter or at least at least one true frontline
27:04starter yeah yeah to take some pressure as i've said off of these pitchers yep but if you to your
27:10point if you've got pitchers like santucci pushing other guys and there you say we are sitting
27:15here in offseason saying huh should we the mets should they go with santucci should they go with
27:21thorin you'd like to see not thorin who's made his case to stay in the rotation it's a good problem
27:25to have you're going to need a lefty and if you got one of these young lefties or who knows
27:30maybe start santucci and you keep him in triple a thornton falters gets hurt or what happens with
27:36sean manai if he's still on this team right it's final year of his contract he's getting paid 25
27:39million dollars he's kind of showing us that while he can provide length you're not necessarily going
27:43to get the best quality there right how much is sean going to factor into the mets future plans of
27:48success how much will his contract outweigh maybe what their plan is to build for the future
27:53that's a really big question that we don't have the answer to right now that will be imperative to
27:58figure out when the time is right that question kind of goes along with the marcus simian question
28:02that you brought up as well too right because how much are you going to deal with these guys are
28:06you paying a lot of money when you have guys that either are ready or appear to be ready soon
28:12right
28:13that's going to be a big question but here's the thing when you got young guys that appear to be
28:18close to being ready i'm not saying that they are ready folks but close to being ready it's good because
28:22you've got competition as we said it's good we talked about healthy competition and you have things that
28:27can push the organization forward to making some decisions that should be best for this organization
28:32that's what i want to see santucci love his stuff still think there's more for him to develop
28:36just like mitch voight is there too but i think all in all when you come from this subway series
28:42and the mets if you want to say it was disappointing i don't think it's personally disappointing
28:45considering how this year has went zax is just so emotionally checked out as am i you guys know
28:50i'm usually like screaming my head off and like granted uh you know people can attest to this i was
28:55yelling as soon as ben rice hit that home run but then afterwards i was like you calm down i
29:00calmed down
29:00i'm like i'm not listen ice grilled the kid and then you just kept it moving just ice grilled the

29:06exactly yeah no i've been emotionally tapped out since april which is unfortunate and that's why
29:10i'm hoping that next season is the opposite i want i want to live and die with each pitch decks

29:15to be an absolute mess here in the best way possible because we're really letting our true emotions you
29:20know come out and seep out you get too frustrated this year no now i think about it we'll have
