00:03how we doing everybody it's tyler ward here aka wardy to many of you and our latest street out
00:09flushing podcast segment solo edition this time hopefully next time i'll be chopping it up with
00:14the amazing dexter henry but he's been oh so busy with the new york knicks and their amazing finals
00:19run so why don't i already have you covered here breaking down the latest in mets land and today's
00:24topic has everything to do with the 42 million dollar man himself and boba shed one does now ask
00:30the question after a fantastic night the last time that he played is boba shed back and can he help
00:35carry the new york mets this season listen i understand mets fans at the time of us talking
00:41right now the mets currently stand right around eight games below 500 to say that they have a
00:45daunting task to dig themselves out of the hole that they currently find themselves in is an
00:51understatement and it's even more daunting task not only to get to 500 but to actually try to make
00:55some form of run happen here in the calendar 2026 year having said that as we know david stern's
01:01constructed a roster that while on paper has not met the mark whatsoever mainly due to injuries and
01:08inconsistencies boba shed was supposed to be one of the most consistent players entering the 2026
01:12season for the mets when you throw 42 million dollars gross per year on a three-year contract to
01:17boe odds are you're looking to get a guy that was one of the top players and not just the
01:21american
01:22league but in all major league baseball last year when it came to hitting with runners the scoring
01:26position as well as going gap to gap with devils boba shed was a top three player in baseball
01:31in that category last year and the exact reason as to why the mets invested so highly in him
01:36after he almost inked a longer term contract with the mets rivals in the philadelphia phillies
01:40had everything to do with the mets missing out on kyle tucker needing a top three hitter in this
01:45lap and boba shed bringing the protection you're looking for to help someone like the one and only
01:50and juan soto well as we currently sit here today boba shed so far this season has a total of
01:55just
01:55five home runs 31 rbis and 248 at bats a 226 average a 280 on base percentage and a 590
02:03ops for
02:04context carson bench has an ops basically 100 points higher currently than boba shed and as we know carson
02:11bench is the mets top rookie outfielder who's been high flying the past month and a half doing a
02:15great job in doing so bo was at a full even zero on his war right now he is a
02:20negative 10
02:22offensively and he has not been that bad per fan graph since his injury riddled and played 2024
02:26season his second last year that we saw there in toronto we're in 81 games he had just four home
02:32runs 31 rbis so even worse even though it's a 20 game sample size and difference here still worse
02:38though with a 225 average of 277 on base at 322 slug boba shed's numbers right now are absolutely
02:44horrendous coming off of a walk here we're staying healthy with the exception of obviously him
02:48getting tweaked with that injury in playoffs which could be nagging him to this day as we know he
02:52might not be fully back from it but in 139 games last season 620 play appearances boba shed had 18
02:59home
02:59runs 78 runs scored 94 rbis just four stolen bags but a 311 average a 357 on base and a
03:07483 slug that's good
03:08for 34 percent above league average per fan graphs and boba shed's roughly a career 290 hitter and
03:14looking right around 20 percent above league average so bo is not a guy that commonly is sitting at a
03:2070
03:20wrc plus 30 percent below league average which is what he's doing curling 2026 with the mets and like
03:26what he did in a half season sample size in 2024 for the blue jays what do both those seasons
03:31have in
03:31common inconsistencies due to health at least that was the case in 2024 for the 2026 boba shed how much
03:39of this is health versus a difference in plate approach a difference in not playing in a very
03:43heady hitter friendly ballpark half the year in toronto and a difference in scenery more than
03:48anything not just from a location perspective of the actual stadium but the city that he finds himself
03:54in listen playing in toronto was a completely different animal and is a different animal for many
03:58players as is because you're tech that's the technically the lone team in baseball that's not
04:02even in the country so you have to deal with a little bit more jumping through hoops with things
04:06that you otherwise wouldn't have to deal with having said that though being in new york and being in the
04:10flushing queens market is a different animal how the media approaches things is very different and yes
04:15toronto media can be gruesome but you find that more so being the case with hockey which is what
04:20they're most known for shout out toronto maple leaves instead of what you have you're in the toronto
04:25blue jays so boba shed every in a big market like new york hasn't even been tested heavily in my
04:31opinion by the respective friends here in the media whoever they may be worth 60 games into the season
04:36boba shed has not been nearly pressed enough in my opinion as to why have you not been performing to
04:42your caliber and i think we know the answers to this it's the laundry list of what i just stated
04:47from getting acclimated to a new lineup not a great lap to begin with due to all the inconsistencies
04:53and obviously the mets staying stubborn with boba shed batting and the two or three all all season
04:58long when in reality you could rightfully argue he should be moving down a little bit in the lineup
05:02at least up until what we saw this past day so with all the criticisms and all the rightful concerns
05:08and worrisomes out there regarding boba shed who's making an absolute bag the largest contract on the
05:12mets this season not name juan soto okay he's making more money per year than even francisco lindor
05:18and we all know when it comes to lindor he's going to be asked every question under the sun
05:22as soon as he returns on this team it's crickets with boba shed that better change in fast especially
05:28if he does not perform but we're not here to talk about boba shed not performing because that's what
05:32he's been doing for the vast majority of the season what we are here to talk about is what he
05:36can do
05:37very much so like what he did this past day or so with a four hit game three rbis slapping
05:43the
05:43baseball everywhere boba shed has been an opposite field king but it's great to see him actually hit
05:48with a bit of authority up the middle or pulling to the left side okay there's been a lot of
05:53things
05:53that have been questionable about boba shed's plate approach this year and we're not even really
05:57nitpicking the defense which we know has honestly been okay for the times that he's been stepping up
06:02at short will endure out and when he was playing third base he really wasn't bad with the exception
06:06like the first week or two of the season his numbers are actually pretty good per baseball
06:10savant that we saw in the outs above average category oaa for sure so offensively this is all
06:16it comes down to to boba shed can he go back to being that hits god the guy that consistently
06:20gets
06:20on base two to four times a game which is what made him so brilliant it wasn't just the fact
06:26that he
06:26puts the ball in place so much leading to a north of 300 career average but it's also his ability
06:31to
06:31grind out at bats for walks again this is a guy that can find himself sitting and the 330 to
06:36360
06:36range and on base percentage when all things are right but for boba shed the new york mets there's
06:41just been so much awry with this club this year so to get bo who finally stepped up in his
06:46last game
06:46you could argue his best game this season or most certainly up there he's had a couple other good
06:50ones let's not forget that two homer game he had a couple weeks ago and dc against the nationals in
06:55which the mets somehow some way still split that series i believe lost that game as well because no
07:00mcclain got absolutely rocked and the rest is history bad fundies by the mets it's almost like we've seen
07:05this before but if boba shed can exemplify those qualities of hitting and which we saw over this
07:11past game in the series finale and seattle against the mariners and start to carry that over this year
07:16just like that you start to realize oh you know what maybe the 42 million dollar man can actually
07:21carry this new york mets team a little bit maybe the mets don't have to be solely reliant on the
07:26765 million dollar man and wad soto for a change maybe the mets can bank on more than just their
07:31high-flying young guns in the outfield and a want and not a want soto but in a garson bench
07:36or an
07:36aj ewing maybe with jorge polanco expected to return for the san diego padre series francisco alvarez
07:43looking like he'll be returning within the next calendar week as he's looking very good in his
07:46rehab in syracuse and francisco lindor expected to potentially return before the month's end
07:51maybe just maybe the mets still have enough time on their hands to build a lab that is not only
07:57looking
07:57deeper than what what is currently constructed but it'll be far more sustainable than what you've
08:02gone for the past calendar month again it's a maybe for a reason it's probably a big question
08:07that's not gonna get the rightful answer to that mets fans want to see but in the interim for the
08:12meantime one does have to wonder and this can be the start of something big for boba shed and the
08:17new york mets as their summer is a gauntlet as i've stated before in the month of june the new
08:22york
08:22mets do not have a single opponent below 500 for the most part it doesn't happen i believe until
08:27you get into literally the second calendar week or so of july as things currently stand so to say
08:33the mets have a big task over the next number of months to stay relevant and to not be full
08:37-blown
08:38sellers but actually be somewhat of buyers is again an understatement how will they fare more than
08:44likely what has been the case at this point but if boba shed can add all play to his worth
08:49as a player
08:50who had roughly four war last year and currently has zero he somehow he somehow some way has more
08:57value in his defense than his offense per fan graphs right now that's how low the bar has been
09:01offensively but if boba shed can find consistency in his game that may very well be exactly what this
09:07mets line needs what wansota needs towards the top and what the length of the slime needs to find some
09:13consistent structure with said offense mets fans let us know your thoughts in the comments down below
09:18are you buying the latest great performance by boba shed or do you think that's fool's goal
09:22and it'll go back to being what he has been this year which has been like in a lot of
09:26ways in
