00:00It is day one of the GM meetings, and I'm talking Mets pitching right now.
00:03I know the Mets said they need to improve their run prevention.
00:06I'm with them on that.
00:07If they can do it via the defense, go right ahead.
00:10But I'm not sure how much run prevention you're going to do.
00:13Improve the range a little bit at second base.
00:15Maybe at first base, though I don't know how you replace Pete Alonzo.
00:19His 38 home runs, his 126 RBIs.
00:21Maybe in the corner outfield spots, but you've got two guys with full no trades.
00:25Obviously, one Soto, an all-time great hitter, isn't going anywhere.
00:29Is Brandon Nimmo? I'm not so sure.
00:32Pitching really is the answer for the Mets, and they need to do at least one out of two things.
00:36They need to either loosen the purse strings for top starting pitching,
00:41or loosen the strings on those great, great prospects they do have.
00:46And they do have many very, very good prospects.
00:49Obviously, McLean is not going anywhere.
00:52Good thing they did not trade him.
00:53Gold star on that one.
00:54Tong, Sprode, Benj, Williams.
00:59I mean, you know, you're going to have to think about trading one or more of them
01:02if you really want to improve that pitching step,
01:04if you don't love the free agent targets that you may have.
01:07There are some decent free agent targets.
01:10I understand the pitching market isn't like what it was last year
01:13when you had Blake Snell out there,
01:15you had Max Freed out there,
01:17you had Corbin Burns out there.
01:19Still some good pitchers.
01:20Zimai, looks like he's going to be posted.
01:22That's one good one.
01:23Frambois Valdez, another good one.
01:26And you have Dylan Cease, another good one.
01:28If you don't want to spend the money for those guys,
01:31you have some other decent pitchers.
01:32Obviously, Zach Gallin has been very good in the past,
01:34didn't have a great year this year.
01:36Michael King, supremely talented, was really good previous year.
01:41I think he would be a good target.
01:43Giolito has been very good when he is healthy.
01:46That's another guy who could be a target via free agency.
01:48But I think they need to look at trades
01:51because there are going to be a number of good pitchers
01:54traded on that market this year.
01:57Certainly, I don't expect Tarek Skubal to be traded.
02:00You've got to look at that number one.
02:02He's the top target.
02:03If you can get Tarek Skubal, you've got to go for it.
02:06He is number one, probably the best pitcher in the game.
02:10Not seeing it as a likelihood, but worth investigating.
02:14If you can't get Skubal,
02:16there are going to be a number of other guys
02:17who are out there on the market,
02:18whether it be Freddy Peralta,
02:20Sonny Gray, the Miami guys,
02:23Alcantara, Cabrera, the Twins guys.
02:26Certainly possible, Lopez and Ryan.
02:29And then you have Mackenzie Gore with Washington.
02:31So definitely a lot of possibilities on the trade market,
02:34possibilities on the free agent market.
02:37Mets need to do something right now
02:38because, look, you had a 2.8 ERA on June 12th,
02:41finished up 4.95 from June 13th on.
02:44That is not going to get it done as we saw.
02:51Mets fans, if you bleed orange and blue,
02:53you need to be locked in to Straight Outta Flushing.
02:55I'm Dexter Henry, bringing you the show
02:57that's all about what's really going on in Queens.
03:00From clutch homers to bullpen meltdowns
03:02to prospect hype, we break it all down.
03:04Plus, I'm chopping it up with beat writers,
03:06content creators, and diehard Mets fans
03:09who live this Mets life just like you.
