11 October - National Evening Forecast Presented by Tom Morgan
Transcript
00:00Hi there. There's not much sign of any significant rain in the forecast during the coming week
00:05and that's in part largely due to high pressure dominating the UK. It's centred across the
00:10middle of the UK at the moment and whilst the centre of the high will drift a little
00:13bit towards the northeast through the next few days, there are very few ice bars on the
00:17chart so not much in the way of a breeze and also very few if any weather fronts so nothing
00:21to bring much in the way of rain. Back to Saturday evening then, there is a little bit
00:25of rain around across parts of northern Scotland so here quite a damp and murky picture through
00:30the course of the night, some hill fog and some bits and pieces of rain and drizzle around
00:34too. Otherwise across the UK a largely dry night to come and whilst the cloud will tend to come
00:39and go where we see skies stay clear for any length of time, well temperatures will dip
00:43down into potentially mid to low single figures so a touch of frost potentially possible in
00:49the most prone rural spots but there will also be some mist and fog developing later in the
00:53night as well where skies stay clear. In the south a bit more in a way of cloud persisting
00:58and here generally speaking in the towns and the cities temperatures holding up at around
01:02eight or nine degrees but as I say a bit lower than that potentially low enough to give a touch
01:07of frost where skies are clear. But it's the fog that potentially could be more of an issue
01:13for us on Sunday morning so some of us will wake up to scenes like these and this graphic here is
01:17giving you an indication of where we're most likely to see the fog on Sunday morning so the shades
01:22of orange and red give a higher percentage probability of seeing some poor visibility so
01:28places like the Vale of York for example down towards eastern parts of England, the Midlands,
01:33the Welsh Marches and perhaps the Solway Firth being signalled by our computer models for being
01:37the most likely areas to see some poor visibilities on Sunday morning. And that fog will only be very
01:42slow to clear perhaps lasting for most of the morning in the most prone spots so a bit of a murky start
01:48to the day but don't despair the sunshine is likely to come out wherever you are through the day on
01:53Sunday. It will take a while but many parts of England and Wales will brighten up with some
01:57sunshine by the afternoon. Southern and central parts of Scotland also seeing a reasonable amount
02:02of sunshine as well by the afternoon probably staying somewhat cloudy for Northern Ireland and
02:07certainly Northern Scotland staying a bit cloudy and damp as well. In the best of the sunshine though
02:12we could see highs of 16 to perhaps 18 degrees Celsius by the afternoon which isn't too bad
02:17for the middle part of October slightly above average temperatures and with the winds being light
02:21well it should feel pleasant enough in that sunshine. Now through Sunday evening we all like to see
02:28an area of clouds spreading back westwards across the UK moving in from the North Sea pushing west
02:33across England and into parts of Wales by Monday morning. That cloud will act like a blanket and prevent
02:38too much in the way of fog forming we think as we go into Monday morning and also prevent temperatures
02:45from falling too far as well. So the lowest temperatures on Sunday night more restricted to
02:50Scotland and northwestern parts of England where we could see a touch of frost once again in the most
02:55prone rural spots. Otherwise though in the south at least a slightly milder night to come
03:00most towns and cities holding up at between 8 and 11 degrees Celsius. So a much cloudier and gloomier day
03:08to come from many parts of England and Wales on Monday. There may well be a few breaks in that
03:12cloud for more western areas but the cloud could be thick enough to even give the odd spit and spot
03:16of light rain or drizzle in the breeze. For northern England though many parts of Scotland and perhaps
03:21locally in Northern Ireland we should see a much brighter day. So here some sunny periods and with the
03:26light winds as well once again it won't feel too bad at all in that October sunshine but generally
03:32temperatures in the south at least down by a degree or so compared to on Sunday. Not much change in the
03:39weather as we go through the next few days and indeed through much of the week ahead. A lot of dry weather
03:42is on the way. There will also be quite a lot of cloud in the form of anti-cyclonic gloom and that's
03:48what we meteorologists term the conditions underneath an area of high pressure where we have persistent
03:52cloud for day after day. The best of any brightness or sunshine generally speaking will be further west
03:58especially across Scotland, Northern Ireland and western parts of Wales and temperature wise these
04:03will be fairly close to average for the time of year but there may well be a slight dip as we go
04:07towards the end of the week. Do make sure that you subscribe to our YouTube channel though so that
04:12you never miss any updates. That's everything from me. I'll see you again very soon.
