30 November - National weather forecast presented by Tom Morgan.
Transcript
00:00Hi there.
00:01Autumn has been wetter than average across most parts of the UK, and winter is going
00:05to begin on a similar note as well, with some heavy rain in places.
00:09But out there today, it's a fine picture actually for most of us.
00:12This is the latest satellite and radar picture.
00:14This swirl of cloud out across the North Sea is what brought yesterday's wet and windy
00:18weather for some of us, an area of low pressure.
00:20There are some showers around across parts of northeast England, northern parts of Scotland
00:24as well, and one or two across Wales and the southwest.
00:27But it's this massive cloud out towards the west that's pushing in for tomorrow.
00:31Tied in with that is a frontal system that's going to be bringing some very heavy rain and
00:35strong winds as we move into Monday.
00:38But back to Sunday afternoon, it's a fine picture out there for most of us.
00:42Most of us have got some blue skies and some sunshine to end autumn.
00:45There are a few showers across parts of northern Scotland.
00:48Here they are wintry across the high ground as well, some running down North Sea coast
00:51as well for a time, and one or two out across the west, parts of Wales and southwest England
00:55for example. But for most, the sunshine will hold on for most of the afternoon.
01:00It will turn cloudy across parts of northern Ireland and western Scotland, and there will
01:03be some showery rain arriving here.
01:06It will be fairly chilly after that cold start this morning.
01:09Temperatures no better than four or five degrees across parts of Scotland and northern
01:12England this afternoon, but highs of 9 to 11 degrees in the south of the UK, so
01:16not too far away from average here.
01:18Now winds will be light for most of us for this afternoon, but as we go into this evening
01:23and overnight, the isobars are really going to tighten together somewhat, so this frontal
01:27system pushing in brings some much milder air with it as well.
01:30So we are expecting to see temperatures rise through the night, but that warmer air will
01:34hold a lot of moisture, so we are going to see some very heavy rain, an amber warning
01:38coming into effect across parts of South Wales, and yellow warnings for rain in many other
01:42parts of the UK.
01:43We are back to Sunday evening, and that wet and windy weather already arriving across
01:48Northern Ireland, pushing in quite quickly to other western parts of the UK as well.
01:52The winds are really starting to pick up as well, so coastal gales developing, and those
01:56rain warnings coming into effect at midnight.
01:58Holding on to something a little bit drier for a time further east, and although temperatures
02:02will fall away for some areas this evening, by the time we get to tomorrow morning, well
02:06temperatures will be up into double figures in many western areas, and certainly a much milder
02:10night to come for all of us.
02:12Now there will be some very heavy rain by the end of the night, potentially some travel
02:16disruption in places as well, that amber warning in place across parts of Wales, so
02:20it's here where we are most likely to see some disruption.
02:24As well as that, it will be a very windy start to the day on Monday too, with some coastal
02:28gales, but it's the rain I want to focus on, so through the day on Monday we are going
02:32to start to see those rainfall totals really starting to trot up, so across the high ground
02:36are Wales, parts of northwest England in particular as well.
02:40We could well see in some of the most exposed spots as much as 100 or 120 millimetres of
02:45rain.
02:46Now through the day on Monday the rain will ease gradually as we go through the course
02:50of the afternoon for parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland, but for many parts of England
02:54and Wales it's going to stay pretty wet.
02:56Rain off and on for southeastern areas, but particularly persistent across the far southwest of England,
03:01much of Wales and northwest England.
03:03And here we could well see some travel disruption, so do stay tuned to the forecast, check out
03:07the weather warnings on our website as we go through the course of tomorrow.
03:11It stays pretty windy, gusts of 45, maybe even 50 miles per hour inland and 55 to 60 miles
03:17per hour around some southwestern coast, particularly through the Irish Sea.
03:21The winds will fall lighter though across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
03:25Here temperature is quite close to average for the time of year, but a much milder day to
03:28come across England and Wales compared to over the weekend.
03:31Highs here 12 or 13 degrees, but obviously feeling much more unpleasant when you factor
03:36in that wind and rain.
03:38The rain continues through Monday evening, particularly persistent across western parts of England and
03:42across Wales.
03:43Further travel disruption and flooding is quite likely.
03:47So do stay in touch with the weather warnings as we go through the next few days.
03:50There are likely to be some changes.
03:52Tuesday looks like potentially being a dry day though.
03:54There'll be one or two showers across the south and the west, but many places will have
03:58some sunny spells on Tuesday and temperatures around the seasonal average for most.
