00:00Are dating apps ruining dating?

00:05Big statements like this are often made when people feel negative towards something because

00:09they got bad results in it. So if you personally had bad results with dating apps, you might tend

00:13to think that dating apps are just ruining dating generally, not just for you personally. But is

00:18this true on a societal level? Is it actually ruining dating? Well, if we look at social media

00:22generally, and I'm just going to include dating apps in this big general pile here for now,

00:26it definitely has had an effect on people's social skills and their confidence levels. A lot of

00:31people will hide behind the computer screen and avoid real contact with people. If you have a dating

00:35app on your phone, it's easier just to start swiping on a whole bunch of different random profiles than

00:39it is to go talk to somebody in public. And that's definitely going to affect your social skills

00:43because you're not going to be practicing how to meet people and build up your own courage to build

00:47up your confidence. But I think it's going to affect everybody in different ways. So it's not necessarily

00:51going to ruin you if you're using online dating. Maybe it's a good thing for you. Maybe you're

00:55getting lots of dates. But for the majority of guys, it's not going to be the most positive

00:59experience, especially when you're filtered out by your age or your height. And with dating apps,

01:04photos are king. So if you don't have good photos, that's going to ruin your chances too.

01:08And it seems like a lot of guys really don't know what a good photo looks like. And one negative

01:11thing about dating apps, which might be ruining dating, is that women have so many options, right?

01:17They're bombarded every day by countless messages and connection requests, even when they're not that

01:22attractive. And this wouldn't happen in real life. Dating apps also sort of gamify the whole dating

01:27experience as well. I think everyone gets an endorphin rush when they get a match, especially

01:31if the match is somewhat attractive. It's the same thing as when you're getting likes and comments

01:35on your social media posts. And that can be addictive in itself. So are people on these apps

01:39just for validation or they actually want to get a date or relationship? But what do you think?
