00:00Hello and welcome to this South Australian James Weather Update for Monday.
00:04We have got a thought about negative Indian Ocean dipole moisture pouring in from the Indian Ocean
00:10producing this lovely cloud band that is moving right across the country.
00:14Now let's have a look at it. It's very, very slowly moving northwards. It's creeping northwards.
00:19This is across the course of an hour. Yes, it does come down from the northwest there
00:23but the band itself is very, very slowly moving northwards and that's going to take a couple of days
00:28to actually move through. So it has already crossed the southeast and now it is up to the north and it
00:33is heading northwards. You'll notice there's a big gap in it in through here. That's actually where
00:37some of the heavier falls are likely to be today but there's no radar coverage so we can't actually
00:41see what is happening. Let's have a look at day by day what to expect. Here are the big falls that
00:45are happening in through there during the day on Monday. This was from early on so from 11pm on
00:51Sunday night. So this here is what we got overnight and cleared out during the morning. So that's now
00:57up to here. We're very, very slowly moving northwards. Let's watch this in action as we go
01:01through. So here we have Tuesday. Here's the remains of that band that is coming in through
01:06here. Still quite heavy over in the west but all up in through these parts here and petering out as
01:10it moves across the eastern parts. We're hardly seeing anything in the southeast. Let's now have
01:15a look at Wednesday. There's the remains of that band still moving in through there. We've got another
01:19cold front crossing the southern ocean just clipping us. So just producing a little bit of cold air
01:24and the showers that go with that. Have a look at Thursday. Pre-wash the same thing and yes that
01:29band of rain is still going so it's right up in that northern corner there. That's during the day
01:34on Thursday. Into Friday yet another one. Here's the next high pressure system and that band has
01:40almost petered out by the end of the week. Now as we go into the weekend things could get very
01:45interesting. Here we have Saturday and here we have Sunday. Now this is one weather model which is
01:52known as the Euro. It comes from Europe. Let's have a look at what some other models are saying
01:56because this is just one piece of guidance. Let's have a look at the GFS which is from the USA.
02:02That's got that there on Saturday and then that there on Sunday. So it likes it as well.
02:07Have you look at that Euro once again. There is Saturday and into Sunday. That loves it. Let's now go
02:13and have a look at Access which is the Australian model. That doesn't like it as much. It has it there
02:18but it has it staying in the north not coming down into the southeast. So the Australian model
02:23is not liking things to move in there. It's got high pressure in the way so it gets blocked.
02:27Let's now have a look at Jem which is the one from Canada. No one doesn't like anything at all. So
02:32there's Saturday and into Sunday. It's just got another cold front that is crossing the southeast
02:36and just clipping us there. Potential for that moisture in through there. Does it arrive on Monday?
02:41Potentially yes with a boost from there. So Canada, Jem has different timing. All right so that's just a
02:47a good example of how all the different models can be saying very different things which makes
02:52my job as a meteorologist incredibly difficult and your job if you're planning also difficult. So what
02:57we always like to do is wait for the guidance to come in line and then we have higher confidence
03:02in what that outcome is going to be. So this here is certainly something to watch as we move into
03:06next weekend. What might that add up to if all of that actually occurs? Some big falls in through
03:12these parts here. So yes that's the rain band that is very slowly moving northwards but then the
03:16potential for that next significant outbreak as it comes through. All right so for Adelaide what
03:21can we expect? About 60 we're now on the chilly side. 17 as we go into Tuesday with a chilly night
03:27in between. We've got a fair bit of sunshine now that we've got that band that is to our north but
03:32then Wednesday, Thursday, Friday into Saturday that's when those cold fronts clip us to the south
03:37we get just a little bit of showery activity come through. So showers are hit and missed by nature.
03:43you could stay completely dry but there is some activity that is in the area each and
03:47every day. It also stops us warming up. Then there is the potential for that band of rain
03:51to come through potentially later in the weekend. Potential, potential, it is definitely all about
03:57the potential at this stage because it is not set in stone. As always head to you, Farwell
04:00I'm with her for the least.
