00:00Hello and welcome to this national Janesweather update for Friday.
00:04What we have today is the remains of a cold front moving across the southeast.
00:07That one came with a cold outbreak. Yes, it is October.
00:11We can still get some low-level snow.
00:13The next weather system is building off the coast of WA.
00:16And that one is going to be quite a big one with a nice feed of tropical moisture coming in from the northwest.
00:22Otherwise, skies are looking fairly clear.
00:24Let's have a look day by day what to expect.
00:26So here is Friday. We've got the remains of this weather system.
00:29There's moving across the southeast.
00:31But by the end of the day, the high-pressure system is up to here in northwestern parts of Victoria.
00:36Anywhere to the west of that, because our winds travel in this direction on a high-pressure system,
00:42anywhere to the west is going to warm up now.
00:44We usually have a look at our cold outbreak, these blue colours in through here.
00:48I want to direct your attention to the red lines that are now coming down,
00:52because that is a surge of heat.
00:53It will be our first significant surge of heat for the season.
00:57There's the weather system off the southwest coast there.
01:00Not ready yet.
01:01That one is a Saturday system.
01:03So let's have a look at that.
01:05Tropical moisture coming in, all of that rain coming into the southwest.
01:08So it's a one-two punch as it comes through.
01:11There's the heat that is barreling down.
01:12Out ahead of that change moving through.
01:14And yes, this does have some cold air in behind it.
01:17Heat, then cold air, it will be quite a change.
01:19High pressure now over northeast New South Wales by the end of Saturday.
01:23Things are clear in the east.
01:25So there's Saturday.
01:26Let's now have a look at Sunday.
01:27This starts to sweep on through all of the heat that is out ahead of it.
01:31The cold change is now here where this trough line is by the end of Sunday.
01:35So here is our band of rain stretching now pretty much right across the south.
01:39This will be coming into the southeast later on Sunday.
01:42So let's watch that move through into Monday.
01:45It splits as it moves across the southeast.
01:47Still plenty of this moving across in through here thanks to that feed of moisture.
01:51But it does dry up as it heads further eastward.
01:54So that is moving through there.
01:55Now the heat is confined to the northern parts and the cold change is in through here.
02:00There's Monday.
02:01Now let's have a look at Tuesday.
02:02There's the remains of that band there.
02:04We've got moisture.
02:05They're starting to pour in from the northeast.
02:07We've got a pool of very hot air that is now stuck over the interior there in the north.
02:12And whenever we can get our next northerly winds, that is going to come on down.
02:16Here's the next change moving across.
02:18So that moves across on Wednesday into Thursday and all of that moisture starts to pull down.
02:23We'll have a trough running in through there so we'll get showers and thunderstorms to finish off the week in Queensland in through there.
02:29Let's take a closer look at this pool of heat.
02:32So this is our temperature.
02:33It's about four or five in the afternoon each day.
02:35So here we have Friday.
02:37There it is sinking right down into the west.
02:39Saturday it's right in through here.
02:41On Sunday it's right in through there.
02:43And on Monday it has retreated back up into the north, but a large area of warm weather that is sitting there that is ready to come down at the next time our winds turn in the right direction.
02:54What is all of this going to add up to when we see that pool of moisture coming in from the northeast?
02:58That's later next week.
02:59Here's our rain band moving across through there.
03:01So we've got 15 to 25, maybe even 25 to 50 millimetres as that comes in.
03:06So right across these parts here and then it dries up as it heads into eastern parts of South Australia.
03:12It reinvigorates as it moves across the southeast, but not if you're anywhere inland, except maybe just up in through these parts here.
03:18We've got showers and thunderstorms in those eastern parts of Queensland.
03:21It will be anywhere east of a trough that sets up.
03:24They can bring heavy falls if you're directly underneath a storm.
