00:00Hello and welcome to this New South Wales Jane's Rather update for Monday.
00:04We have got a huge cloud band that is crossing the country.
00:07Moisture is pouring in from the Indian Ocean, part of the negative Indian Ocean dipole,
00:12and that cloud and rain band is moving through here.
00:14Now, some of the heaviest falls are actually going to be in through here,
00:17but there's no radar coverage there, so we can't actually see it falling.
00:20But watch this. Watch how slowly it is moving northwards.
00:23So it is very gradually progressing northwards,
00:26but this is over the course of an hour and it is hardly moving.
00:29So it's a very, very slow moving thing that is going to be with us for the next couple of days.
00:34So this is where it is. We've got some cloud out ahead of it.
00:36Otherwise, bright sunshine will slowly get overtaken by this cloud band.
00:40Let's have a look day by day what we can expect in through here.
00:43So it's southern parts of the state that are seeing this band today,
00:46very, very slowly moving northwards.
00:48We've got heat out ahead of that.
00:50We've got cold air that is in behind it.
00:52So there'll be a little bit of a temperature roller coaster, particularly in the south.
00:56There is Monday. Let's have a look on Tuesday.
00:58Here is what is left of that band.
01:00So it does peter out as it moves through the day on Tuesday.
01:03We do see this particularly in the morning on Tuesday there.
01:07All right. So there's that one.
01:08As we move into Wednesday, the band is back.
01:11Here it is running through the central parts in through here.
01:13We've also got showers and thunderstorms that are in that southeastern quarter,
01:17generally on the western side of the ranges.
01:19So that's during the day on Wednesday.
01:21Heat. Look at the purple and red lines that are in through here.
01:24Cold air that is back over to the west.
01:25Let's have a look on Thursday.
01:27We start to see a trough that comes in through here.
01:29So here is our band of rain.
01:31It is still with us right through to the end of the week.
01:34Out ahead of that, thanks to that trough,
01:37we'll get hit and miss showers and thunderstorms directly under a storm.
01:40Yes, you're going to get a big fall.
01:42Otherwise, it is hit and miss activity.
01:44We're likely to see it on the ranges and just to the west of the ranges
01:47and just to these western parts of the coastal fringe.
01:50Less likely go over to the east coast there.
01:53So that is Thursday into Friday that contracts northward.
01:56So it's the northeastern parts and into southeastern parts of Queensland.
02:00So that's where the focus of the activity is on Friday.
02:03There's Friday.
02:04Let's now have a look at Saturday.
02:05Rain potentially building over to the west.
02:08We've got a cold outbreak that's hitting Tasmania.
02:10Let's have a look at what this here could do.
02:13So by Sunday, we could be in for a very decent, significant rain system.
02:18Now, this is one of the weather models.
02:19They're not all on board yet.
02:21I'm going to take you through very quickly.
02:22So this is GFS, which is a USA model.
02:25That's got a hint of it.
02:26If we move down to here on Sunday, yes, this is all on Sunday,
02:31but this is the Euro model, the European model.
02:33That really, really likes it.
02:35Have a look at access.
02:36It doesn't like it.
02:37It likes it sticking to the north.
02:38And Gem doesn't really like it.
02:40That's Canada.
02:41That's got it up in through here and over to the west at that stage.
02:43So all of the guidance is saying very different things.
02:47And so that means we don't have a lot of confidence with this at this stage.
02:52So having a look at our Euro model, that's the one that has the most rain on it.
02:56So that's the one I'd be certainly keeping an eye on.
02:58What might that add up to, including those falls on Sunday?
03:01So this is the bigger band of rain that comes through after the littler band that very slowly moves northwards.
03:07We've got our showers and storms over the northeast and the western parts of the rangers in through here.
03:12Otherwise, it's mainly the potential for that band at the very end of the outlook.
03:16What can we expect for Sydney as we're waking up on this public holiday?
03:20We've got light rain at times.
03:21Now, that isn't until the evening.
03:23We've got a warm day ahead.
03:25We've got cloud that is there, but we'll have a southerly change later on.
03:28And so then we'll get a little bit of rain overnight.
03:30Most of that is in the early hours of Tuesday.
03:33It clears up during the morning on Tuesday.
03:35So Monday night into Tuesday morning is when that comes through.
03:39Temperatures 22 tomorrow.
03:40So we'll feel that as we head back to work.
03:42But then temperatures rise again as we move into Wednesday.
03:45So up in the high 20s, 30, 28 in through here.
03:48The next dip is as we go into Sunday, if that weather system comes across.
03:52You'll notice on Sunday, nothing for Sydney.
03:54It might reach it there on Monday.
03:56But that was pretty much in the gap in between these two parts here.
04:00Let's watch this evolve and see what actually happens as we get closer to that particular part.
04:05All right.
