00:00Trendy, casual, glad you're finally here this morning.
00:03Yeah, it's a trek up here, guys, but you know what?
00:06I enjoy it, so I'm going to make it.
00:08But if I leave 15 minutes later than I'm supposed to, it's a wrap.
00:13Is this a hold-in?
00:17Is that why you're late?
00:18You're trying to get more money?
00:21Trying to get a little extra sponsorship.
00:25Come on in to the Todd Tuesday show, you guys.
00:27We need a couple dollars.
00:29I want to talk about the win, obviously.
00:31But before that, just on Christian Gonzalez, what is going on there in your mind?
00:35I don't know.
00:36If they say it's a hamstring, that's one thing that you really can't argue.
00:39As you know, Wiggy Deals' hamstrings, they will linger on,
00:42and it's really hard to play, especially at that position.
00:45And again, I was one of those guys that really didn't believe all this hamstring stuff
00:49until I got one, you know, and it really does limit you.
00:53And if you go out there and re-aggravate it, you're going to be lost for more time.
00:56But I think by this hamstring, if that's what you want to call it,
01:01I'm going to put up these quotes because I don't know.
01:03It's also showing the value of Christian Gonzalez because he's not on the field.
01:08You know what I mean?
01:08He changes the difference.
01:10But he's contractually obligated.
01:12I know he's contractually obligated.
01:13Great.
01:14We know that.
01:14But I don't think he needs to show his value.
01:18We've seen his value.
01:18No, we've seen his value, but it's just showing even more when he's not out there on the field.
01:24You know what I mean?
01:24Kind of like, you know, hey, I'm hurt, but you can't replace me.
01:29You know what I mean?
01:29So he's just adding value.
01:31And when he comes back and they improve, guess what?
01:35If this was a Brinks truck, it'd be backing up.
01:37You think it's more of a nice coincidence for him that the hamstring injury came
01:41and then it's showing his value?
01:43Or you think that he's using the hamstring injury to prove his own value?
01:47No, I think it's really a coincidence because as a young player,
01:50you want to be out there on the field.
01:51You know what I mean?
01:52And he's not been around that long.
01:55You know what I mean?
01:56So I think it's really an injury, and he doesn't want to hurt himself for the long term either.
02:00You know, if he comes out there and re-injury it because he is going to get the big payday.
02:05He's looking for the big payday.
02:06But I don't think he's trying to hold out right now.
02:09I mean, he really wants to play football.
02:10What did you see Sunday that you liked?
02:14I didn't see much.
02:16I mean, this is Miami, guys.
02:18I mean, let's keep it 100.
02:19Oh, you're one of those people.
02:20Yeah, I mean, it is Miami.
02:21It's like they need to get better on the offensive and defensive lines.
02:27Drake May, I'm impressed with him because, I mean, he played efficient.
02:30He ran.
02:31He used his legs when he had to.
02:33So I'm encouraged about what I see from Drake May.
02:35But I still think you need some bigger guys up front on both offensive and defensive lines.
02:41And the special teams, yeah, you got to kick off.
02:43You got one.
02:44That back-to-back stuff.
02:46Man, I know Dante Skarnik.
02:49You turned over and he's great because he used to be the old special teams guy, too.
02:52You know, he's a lineman.
02:53But, I mean, that's special teams.
02:54They're not looking good.
02:55You know what don't look good is your damn pass defense.
02:59And part of it is the Christian Gonzalez.
03:02But, I mean, even then, it's two weeks in a row, 300-yard passes.
03:06And the thing that don't add up is your front seven gets after it.
03:11You lead the league in sacks.
03:13You're secondary.
03:14But you got to get creative, though.
03:15You got to bliss.
03:16Ain't nobody put four guys up there and they just go get them.
03:19They doing all the twisting and all that.
03:22But should it be easier on the back end, though?
03:24It's trickery.
03:24But should it be easier if you know, like, all right, we can get after the quarterback.
03:29But these guys are getting cooked back there.
03:31Shouldn't it be like if you're a DB, like, you'd be like, oh, man, I know my front seven can get there.
03:37It should be like that.
03:38I mean, that's what you want is a defensive back.
03:39But when you know you got the cover longer, you know, it's a different mindset because it's a clock going off in your head when you're back there.
03:47It's, you know, 1,000, 1,000, 2,000.
03:48It's supposed to come out.
03:49That's what you're thinking if you got good guys up front.
03:52And right now, you have to bliss.
03:54You have to put in these creative packages to get pressure.
03:57And you can't just do it with four guys.
03:59But, again, if you got somebody that can cover, like a Christian Gonzalez, he can take somebody out one-on-one.
04:04You can double the other guy.
04:06You know what I mean?
04:06Well, early in that game, McDaniel, to say something good about him, was able to befuddle them a little bit with the stunting and the motion stuff that he was doing for a little bit.
04:18Right, for a little bit.
04:19But I notice, and Ty probably can speak to this better than anybody, where they rarely struggle is when, because we've seen this a couple weeks, two weeks in a row, is when it's a deep ball up in the air and playing the ball.
04:32It's like they get lost and turned around.
04:34And, I mean, Tyreek Hill one time caught a pass like it was a punt.
04:37But, like, how do you, like, what are they doing wrong that it's leading to that?
04:43I think that they're not taking the time to coach the kids.
04:47You know what I mean?
04:48Well, coach the young men.
04:49They're not kids.
04:49But we call it in-phase, out-of-phase drills.
04:52Like, where is the coaching?
04:54Just like some of the tackling.
04:55It's piss-poor tackling back there, too.
04:57I mean, I'm like, do you ever heard of Oklahoma drill?
05:00You know what I mean?
05:01If you've got to bring that back in the NFL, do it, because they're not tackling.
05:05They're not playing football from the cornerbacks and the safeties.
05:09They're not finding the ball.
05:11I have never seen nothing like that in my life.
05:14That's fundamental when you're back there.
05:15You know, it's like catching the ball as a wide receiver.
05:18Like, Mapu, I get it.
05:20He was trying to keep him in bounds, but you've got to put your hands on the dude.
05:24It was that, but it was like a couple times it was the safety and it was the corner.
05:29It's like they almost look like outfielders that can't find the football,
05:32and they're, like, spinning in circles.
05:35And that's why I'm asking.
05:36I mean, I don't really play.
05:37As a receiver, we're always taught go get at the high point,
05:41but the DB's got to do a better job of finding it.
05:43But you know what?
05:44That's our job, too, to get it at the highest point.
05:46So you don't wait for it to come down.
05:49You've got to go up there and get it.
05:50So that, to me, is coaching.
05:52You know, who's the damn DB coach?
05:54I know Mike Vrabel.
05:55He got a lot going on, but you're a defensive guy,
05:58so he need to hold his defensive coordinator,
06:00his defensive back coach accountable for those guys to go out there
06:03and make those plays.
06:04It's those individual plays.
06:05The text line is all over you.
06:06Oh, yeah.
06:07Like, you're complaining about the O-line,
06:09and they had zero pressures.
06:14No, he said the special teams.
06:16Well, he started with the – you started off on the O-line.
06:19Yeah, no, I'm not saying it bad.
06:20Like, I don't give them – tell them to keep on texting in.
06:23Like, you don't scare me.
06:25Put that screen on.
06:26Let me look at his ass.
06:26There is one correction that keeps coming up that we should clarify.
06:30Dante Skarnackia is very much alive.
06:32No, I know that, but we always say turn on his grave.
06:36Like, you know, not that he's dead.
06:38No, as soon as you said it, I gasped.
06:40Oh, hell no.
06:41God, full, full, full jinx.
06:43Dante, I love you.
06:45No, we don't mean it like that.
06:46We like somebody that's lying.
06:47I can say Wiggy, turn over his grave.
06:50Meaning I'm up because Dante was a special tease coach.
06:53Exactly, is what Ty was saying.
06:54I understood what he was saying.
06:55I just need to – he is very much alive.
06:58No, no, we know Dante.
06:59Sometimes you got to –
07:01Sometimes you got to speak to them in they language.
07:03Oh, yeah.
07:03Oh, yeah.
07:04You know what?
07:04Yeah, I'm sorry.
07:05Slow it down.
07:05Slow it down.
07:06Articulate.
07:08Damn.
07:08Somebody really took it like that?
07:10Oh, yeah.
07:10No, I think they were just nervous that he had passed and didn't know about it.
07:13So we're just clarifying.
07:14What the hell kind of listeners we got on Tuesday around here?
07:17Y'all know where I'm coming with.
07:18When you say turning over in his grave.
07:19They're all over you.
07:21You got it.
07:21They're all over you.
07:22They want you to apologize to Ramondre Stevenson.
07:26I mean –
07:27Ramondre?
07:27Can we call one of these people and have them say this to Ty Loth?
07:30That would be great radio.
07:31I told you you got to speak to them in they language.
07:33Oh, yeah.
07:34Apologize, Ramondre.
07:35What did I say?
07:36I don't know what you said.
07:37I don't give a damn what I said.
07:38I missed that one.
07:39I didn't think you said his name at all.
07:40I didn't say his name at all.
07:42Should we talk about him?
07:43No.
07:43How many yards are he here?
07:44He was good.
07:45Yeah, you know, he was balling.
07:46Yeah, he was good.
07:46I do have a question when it comes to the defense, though, because you keep bringing up the defensive coordinator.
07:52When Terrell's out for the week with some health issues, does that affect how the team's going to play on Sunday?
07:59Or should they just know enough to be able to –
08:01They should know enough.
08:02I mean, really, you know, at the end of the day, when you're talking about your coordinators, you've got to go out there and perform on defense.
08:08Because I think from an offensive coordinator's standpoint, you're getting all creative, like, you know, Josh McDaniel, and he gets creative and do certain things.
08:18But from a defensive standpoint, yeah, you're going to call the play.
08:22It ain't but so many adjustments.
08:23You've got to adjust off them.
08:24You have to make – you've got to win the one-on-one battle.
08:27You know, that's what I'm talking about.
08:28So not so much the defensive coordinator as, I would say, the DB coach who's coaching those guys individually to find the ball.
08:36You know, understand where it might be going, stuff like that.
08:40So that's an individual thing.
08:41You've got to win a one-on-one battle as a cornerback.
08:44And the DB coach is his kid, Justin Hamilton.
08:47I don't know who he is.
08:48But I did see – because it's interesting you bring about the technique things because I saw, like, somebody put a video up of Bill coaching you guys up on how to be physical with the jam.
08:58Right.
08:59And, like, jamming guys.
09:01And it's just, like, I wonder at times – because you do look at the fundamentals.
09:05And I know I watch the game, and I don't want to be like, back when I played.
09:08But you see some of the fundamentals, and you're like – like, those are basic things.
09:12Like, you should be able to play – I don't play DB, but I was taught when the receiver starts to go back up like he's catching the ball, that's when the DB –
09:23That's when you turn.
09:24Turn and go play.
09:25But it's like these –
09:26Because you have to be looking at the ball.
09:27Right.
09:28And you can read the eyes, too.
09:29The eyes don't lie.
09:30You know, the receiver's eyes, no matter how – it's just the instinct that you're going to have.
09:34Your eyes are going to get big.
09:35You know what I mean?
09:36So you see that, and then that's when you react.
09:39But you've got to have the body control.
09:40You're a professional athlete.
09:42What – you got here, so obviously you're good.
09:45Mm-hmm.
09:45Obviously you can do it, but sometimes you've got to teach yourself over and over again, and you forget certain things.
09:51I don't know, but that is something that should be taught every day in practice, especially if you're having a problem with it.
09:57DBs need to stay there with the receivers after practice like we did, Wiggy.
10:02Guess what?
10:03I went one-on-one with Wiggy.
10:04Even though I probably wouldn't be covering him in the game, but that's just what we did to get each other better.
10:08We stayed after practice for at least 30 minutes, just the receivers, tight ends, and DBs, and we're doing one-on-ones.
10:17So when you needed a breather, you covered Wiggy?
10:19Huh?
10:20Oh, no.
10:21No, if I had – like sometimes I had – like I would go in on a goal line, and they would say cover a tight end, which that wasn't my favorite.
10:29Yeah, I got to cover Wiggy, so it's a different challenge.
10:31I would be quicker, but he can body me.
10:33You know what I mean?
10:34And jump higher and things like that, but that would still prepare me for who I was going to play.
10:38But it helped you out because it helped me out because then it was – I wasn't as fast as guys, so I had to use a lot of like head fakes and shoulder movements to create this separation.
10:48Get that body and get lean on guys.
10:50Yeah, we call it like a little flippity at a chicken wing.
10:52Yep.
10:53And so you would work, and I was able to make guys miss and get open with my wiggle.
10:59And so – and that comes down to when Ty's talking and making a great point is how much of that is being worked on with the coaches afterwards, these little things that they just are overlooking.
11:13Yeah.
11:14So there are more than you would imagine who agree with you that don't get too excited about this win because it's the Dolphins.
11:23Is this a real test for them on Sunday, Steelers and Aaron Rodgers, a better test for them?
11:29I think it's going to be a better test, yes, but for the performance that the Steelers had this past week, that wasn't a good one.
11:36Yeah.
11:37But you're talking about the DBs.
11:39We need Christian Gonzalez because they got a guy over there by the name of DK Metcalf.
11:42You see how big and fast and strong that dude is?
11:45Man, come on.
11:46Christian, we need you to come on back.
11:47Yeah.
11:47But you can't rush it, but I think it's going to be a better test because Aaron Rodgers is not going to have another game, you know, like that.
11:54He's going to test you.
11:55He's still Aaron Rodgers.
11:56He can still – he can still throw that ball.
11:57He – this is the Pittsburgh Steelers, you know what I mean?
12:00So I think this is a lot better team.
12:03It's a lot better organization.
12:04They have more history, and it's going to be a tough challenge.
12:08And they ain't imploding like they are in Miami.
12:10And I know Aaron Rodgers and that team didn't play as well in week two, but they played pretty good in week one.
12:15Right.
12:16Calling out his receiver, though, after the game, too.
12:18Against the Jets.
12:19But Ty's right.
12:20DK Metcalf, he's somebody different.
12:22And if you were struggling against Geno Smith, you were struggling against Tua Tunga-Vailoa.
12:28That's my point.
12:29And then now you got Aaron Rodgers.
12:31Say what you want.
12:32He might be older, but he's still a better quarterback.
12:35And you let up 300 yards to both of those.
12:37That's my only concern with this Patriots football team.
12:40Offensively, I was like, all right, I like what they did in week two.
12:43The O-line, I've been fine with them.
12:45The front seven, getting after the quarterback, I've been fine with them.
12:49The one area where I thought –
12:50The balance pass, Ron.
12:51Yeah.
12:52Like you loved it this week.
12:52But the one area where I thought we would really elevate was the secondary.
12:57Now Gonzalez is hurt.
12:59Davis, you paid him, but he's not getting the job done.
13:01And then you got these two new safeties because you got rid of Jabril Peppers and Duggar.
13:06But what team is going to look anywhere near as good without the all-pro corner in the game?
13:12That's when somebody else got to step up.
13:14And to his credit, when I got hurt, Asante Samuel stepped up.
13:19You know what I mean?
13:19And earth, wind, and fire.
13:20Huh?
13:21Hey, so that's your opportunity.
13:23Right.
13:24Hey, Drew got hurt.
13:26Tom Brady stepped up.
13:27So this is an opportunity for somebody else.
13:30Now you paid – it was Cardin Davis.
13:33How much did you pay him?
13:35$20 million a year, I believe.
13:36Yeah.
13:36What?
13:37$20 million a year.
13:40What?
13:40So, again, like that kind of stuff right there.
13:45You know, God damn.
13:46I'm sorry.
13:47I mean, put it in a swear jar.
13:48I went, damn, $20 million for him.
13:50You know what?
13:50You know what you'd be doing right now if you had been able to play with today's salaries?
13:55You'd be sitting at a home in bed.
13:57Sitting at home in bed in Rhode Island.
13:59What?
14:00Not here.
14:00You ready for this year's cash, Ty?
14:03For Cardin Davis?
14:03And you know what?
14:04Look, you know, I'm happy for the players.
14:06It's unbelievable what they're getting.
14:07But this thing about, you know, being one of the top guys out there.
14:10You know what?
14:11I'm a nickelback salary now.
14:13You know what I mean?
14:14I'm less than that.
14:15That's what it is.
14:15Get the Saudis to pay you.
14:17Right.
14:17Get the Saudis to pay you.
14:18Oh, man.
14:19Tom ain't calling me.
14:21I'm going to get my backfix for that.
14:22Did you get invited to flag football in Saudi Arabia?
14:24No, no.
14:25I ain't get invited.
14:26I wouldn't do well anyway.
14:27I can't run them.
14:28It's over.
14:29It's over.
14:29I'll take that money, though.
14:30Oh, yeah.
14:31Oh, I'll give her a go.
14:32I'll give her a go.
14:33Take that money.
14:34But I mean, but the secondary is bad when you put in.
14:37I hear even Stefan thinking about coming back.
14:40Did y'all hear that?
14:41No.
14:42Stefan Gilmore?
14:43No.
14:43Yeah.
14:43He was on social media saying, I'm a free agent.
14:45Yeah.
14:46No, I mean, I heard little whispers.
14:48He talking about, guess what?
14:49Come on back, Steph, because they need your help.
14:51Well, that's your guy.
14:52Oh, that's my guy.
14:53Yeah.
14:53I might get in on this one.
14:55I might call raves or something, man.
14:56Get bring more.
14:57Y'all talk to Ray more than me, so go on and tell them to bring Stefan back, because
15:01they need some damn help.
15:02We'll tell them that on Monday.
15:03Three years.
15:03He ready, though.
15:04He ready.
15:04What was it?
15:05Three years?
15:05$54 million for Davis?
15:07This year, cashed $23 million.
15:08Mm-hmm.
