00:00morning good morning good morning everybody it's good to be back man started season off right my
00:04boy got paid yes yes he did yeah christian gonzalez a four-year deal 135 million and
00:12considerable amount of that guaranteed and we await the uh fine print on the on the exact
00:19details but good news they got it done this is a great news and whatever the fine print is hell
00:24i got 101 102 million you know guaranteed so i mean great for him he earned it he deserved it
00:31uh
00:33uh it was unfortunately that it took this long right before the game leading up into
00:38all the extra stresses uh you know just added more to something that was obviously going to get done
00:44anyway so you know i think they drove it out a little too long yeah right but yeah you know
00:50the
00:50deal is done he he's here for uh for the foreseeable future so i'm happy about that but who do
00:56you
00:56think was dragging it out long do you think he was holding out or do you think the patriots
01:00may acquiesce at the end if you ask him he's going to say they drug it out if you ask
01:04the patriots
01:05he's going to say it was his representatives but at the end of the day they got it done you
01:09know
01:10somebody's going to always push the blame when it comes to things like this especially when you're
01:13dealing with contracts with so much money you're always going to push the blame uh somewhere else
01:18when you hear of things that he said leading up to this whether it's like you know some
01:22people know what i'm worth some people know what i'm worth or what i deserve stuff like that the
01:26stuff he's posted on instagram now that the deal's done can you just wipe your hands of it though or
01:30do
01:30you as a player keep some type of resentment towards whoever was dragging it out if that's gonna keep
01:36you motivated to go out there and play but normally you know when you go through all types of things
01:41when
01:41you're in a contract negotiation me me and bill had work because we were negotiating as every man for
01:47himself at that moment but once we get the deal done we shake hands we move on okay and there's
01:52no uh lingering side effects unless you say it's something that's just totally inappropriate that
01:57you can't come back from but it's all about the negotiation right you know and in this you know
02:02no harm no foul you know as long as it doesn't get too personal well i would ask now i
02:07don't know like
02:07have you ever dealt like in your career negotiating and one thing that i thought was going to be
02:12like a way for some of these players was dealing with vrabel a former player and saying like man
02:18come on you know what it's like how tough it is to get money did you ever have a situation
02:23because
02:23bill never played but where you were negotiating with a coach or gm that was a former player and
02:30you kind of like yes lean on that yes herman edwards i dealt with a situation uh in new york
02:36because they
02:36were trying to do cutbacks and you know to be quite honest they asked me basically was trying
02:41to call my agent said they're gonna because i had incentives to uh get paid right so every game i
02:47started all of a sudden now i'm totally healthy i'm leading the league in interceptions at the moment
02:53you know end up leading the league in the interceptions for the season but they say well they're gonna sit
02:58me down because they want to see the other young guys play tomorrow night against the team that there's
03:03no other way to say it i'll try i could try to be nice but a team that molly whopped
03:08them in the
03:09super bowl not so long ago ty i mean it is a new day we got a guy by the
03:15name of aj brown who i think
03:16is going to be a major difference maker now we're going to have a battle of two of the hundred
03:22million
03:22dollar cornerbacks out there who's going to get their money's worth because they're both their hands
03:27are going to be full with uh with how you say engine jackson smith and jigma and jigma i don't
03:33know how to say it but like say okay gonzo's gonna have to take care of that one you know
03:37witherspoon
03:37hey what is he gonna do with aj but i think it changes the dynamic of drake may in the
03:43office and
03:43josh mcdaniel because as great as uh digs was stefan digs he is not aj brown who can take i
03:51mean score at
03:52any given time so i think that that's going to be the biggest difference in the game because no one
03:57was afraid of the receivers right you know on seattle's defense who i mean who you're afraid of
04:03now you have to play honest you're either going to double him and leave somebody else one-on-one
04:09and if you dare to leave him one-on-one with your top top cornerback that you just paid a
04:13lot of money
04:14to guess what i still think advantage to the patriots so i think it's going to be a totally different
04:18game
04:18just on that aspect alone i mean i mean oh go ahead i was just going to say a follow
04:23-up with
04:23that with the addition of aj brown you look at this team compared to last year it's a better team
04:27overall it's an absolutely better team overall i mean you got i mean and you got a a year of
04:32experience i mean they were still considered a young team you know by by league standards but now when you
04:38get aj brownie who changes the dynamic you take one guy like that it makes everyone better it gives
04:45your quarterback that much more confidence going in that he's no i can just throw it up right and i
04:50got a chance he did not have that last year he had a bunch of guys that were good players
04:55none of them
04:56were great players and and and i think that's going to be the difference uh this is a i'm going
05:03to be
05:03fascinated to i'm going to be fascinated on how okay no no because you're tripping out during that live
05:07reader no no i'm going to be fascinated on how the boomer reboot somebody reboot him how you how you
05:12answer this question right because you talk about aj brown and the one thing he's so good at and
05:18what makes him so dangerous is his physicality and how big he is what what is harder to defend
05:24for a defensive back a guy that's big and physical like a aj brown or a speed guy like a
05:32tyreek hill
05:32you know like so when you're when you're like with your seattle's defense question good question well
05:38personally as a defensive back i would rather because i'm physical i would rather fight aj brown
05:45i want to fight the tos the ready i don't want to chase around tyreek hill you know i mean
05:50because
05:50they're just like little nets they just just keep going keep going even a guy like a wayne crevet who's
05:56not a tyreek hill but he just works that slot and they just run and antoine around i mean just
06:02those
06:02little guys gets on your damn nerves i would rather stand in there and fight you know what i
06:07mean let's let's see who got the best physicality instead of getting to a foot race all the time but
06:12that's me as far as matchups but if you ask a smaller corner they don't want to see aj brown
06:17they
06:17they would rather go against tyreek hill so it's like boxing it's like matchups you know who's going
06:23to be the best matchup of this game but for me personally you know i would i would rather fight
06:28a big a big guy all day mike give me give me michael irvin give me eric mose give me
06:32jerry rice
06:34tyreek hill hell no you don't want a hamstring mess with that dude well that's why i always like
06:40one that and i always thought like well maybe if the guy's faster it's an advantage if you can be
06:44physical with him you could no i would now i wouldn't back up off of him don't get me wrong
06:48but
06:48he's talking about what i rather covered going into the game i would love that challenge you know
06:53with tyreek hill because it's like i'm gonna put these paws on you you know what i mean i'm gonna
06:56see if
06:57you can run by getting physical right but it's still you're talking about 55 65 plays of a damn
07:05near foot race all the time or you have to be on your p's and q's i would i would
07:09rather go the other
07:10route even though i would love the challenge to see where i'm at to see what he's about well as
07:14you
07:15know you said courtney said team better pass rush in your mind wiki not better than it was no last
07:21season
07:22why you say that well you got three guys so basically you got two guys that are going to be
07:27in the rotation this year one is a second round rookie that is kind of like his camp wasn't the
07:32greatest so he's a rookie and the other one is also a rookie who was a seventh rounder the kid
07:37from
07:37boston college and then the other kid that they're going to depend a lot on uh elijah ponder this is
07:43his
07:43second year and he was a rookie undrafted free agent last year so they really have one guy at the
07:49position at you know and it's a four-man rotation that actually has experience under his belt but
07:55he only had seven sacks last year and that was his best year as a pro i think he might
08:00have been
08:00in the league and that's uh jones and like what's that like seven years or eight years for him in
08:04the
08:04league time that he's been in league so there's not a lot of experience there and you know how important
08:10it is at that position especially for corners i didn't realize that they were that young yeah you
08:16know when he's talking about the pass rush so they're going to have to definitely get creative
08:20on the defensive side and create mismatches uh because you're not probably going to win the
08:25one-on-ones with the you know second year guys and rookies that haven't had much experience so
08:30getting creative but that's the defensive coordinator day he got to come in and do something to create
08:36certain matchups and certain mismatches but you're not going to win one-on-one like you said because
08:40you don't have the experience so that is a patrons are a disadvantage to that and how long and as
08:44a you know
08:45tell people like it's difficult to cover for so long if you're not getting what man i mean that's
08:52why i ran so much to be honest with you because it wasn't that willie and our guys couldn't get
08:57to
08:58the uh pass rush they just had more responsibility i always tell people if you just let willie mcginnis
09:03just go and get the quarterback oh man a hundred plus sacks all day all day he was he was
09:10that down
09:10but he had another responsibility because the way our defense was set so we always had to cover a
09:16little bit longer but when we blitzed oh he was on i knew they was going to get there but
09:20it's just
09:20that we had a pretty uh complicated defense and what they were asked to do but again tampa bay
09:27warren sap and those guys there brooks simeon rice they pull their ears back and go get the
09:32quarterback so imagine playing you know in the secondary with those guys that you can you know
09:37it's going to be a three-step drop every time so you can anticipate a little bit more and make
09:41some plays ty anything changed for you when you got that first big deal like in the locker room
09:45with their expectations did you feel more pressure did anything change in your in anything about the
09:49way you approached the game of how you were viewed no i mean i think i might have been viewed
09:53a little
09:54bit different from the public because now you see the big contract but for me it was always a
09:59standard and no one's standard was ever going to meet what i expected for myself so i didn't feel any
10:04any added pressure to go do my job because the pressure was already hey you got to cover the
10:11best guy week in and week out so that didn't change for me the only thing that changed you
10:16know was the paycheck you know what i mean and you know i had to earn it so it is
10:20what it is and how
10:20much of that paycheck were you asked by your alma mater to send to western michigan to
10:27hey i tell you what hey we get some results like that man yeah i might have put into the
10:33fun i get
10:33to put into the fun hey but i tell you what that right there if i was on the other
10:37end of it i would
10:39have been pissed off right but being that i'm a wolverine you know hey thank you for that one second
10:43you know what i mean if i like i tell charles watson this all the time he like the tuck
10:47rule like
10:47he hates it to this day i mean you he don't want to talk about it but of course you
10:52know i likes to
10:53bring it up anyway yeah but if i was on the raiders my cousin anthony dorsett if i was on
10:58the
10:58raiders i would feel a certain way forget what i play for the patriots yeah this is the rules
11:03so the tug rule you know what i always say you know what i always say to those guys when
11:07i see
11:08them afterwards i said you could easily stop the same way with western michigan you had another
11:12crack you had another crack down i would have said whatever you whatever you do don't let the guy
11:18hey curtis i remember i was on the end of that in michigan one time in colorado so you know
11:23being
11:23on there on the hail mary you know what i mean that's the only time i get the cover day
11:27of sports
11:27illustrated back was ridiculous like why even have the the clock on the tv for the the for the viewer
11:33to see if they if they're holding a different type of watch somewhere else yeah but that but
11:37referees always do that you know you get that clock the ref always have a different a different
11:42but the difference with this they try to align it but that's that's pretty normal the the tuck rule
11:46was implemented against the patriots multiple times that rule had been used in the nfl against
11:52the team it had been called and it was properly applied you can hate the rule all you want oh
11:57yeah
11:57i'll say it was properly applied but this was a case where they created a second out of thin air
12:02nobody watching that game in real time said oh go review it there's an extra second obviously western
12:08michigan should have stopped the hail mary they shouldn't have lost but that the fact that they
12:12added a second and then after the game tried to say that it was this like crazy player touching the
12:19ball out of bounds with two tenths of a hundredth of a second is nonsense hey well the guy at
12:25the
12:25clock he probably got him a little bonus he got him a little bonus he got a little bonus
12:31go slow with that there's like florida state smu last night all of a sudden the power's out trying
12:38to slow smu down a second the lights ain't working here talking about the student athletes i was
12:43watching that flying back the game started at like 10 o'clock at night all right question of the
12:50week for ty is brought to you by 110 grill gluten-free dining done right 617 texter how many wins
12:57do you
12:58have this patriots team getting this season well wiggy i i had them you know 10 plus but you know
13:03you don't mess me up with that one uh wiggy with the pass rush that the pass rush thing you
13:07know what
13:08i'm still gonna i'm gonna say 10 i'm gonna say at least 10 i was 10 plus but we got
13:1210 but that's
13:13an issue right there that's a good take yeah okay yeah i mean that's uh and and we and and
13:18this is you
13:18know that's why uh it was so important to get christian gonzalez back because if you're gonna
13:24manufacture pressures and sacks from other areas blitzing and ty will tell you if you're blitzing
13:31you're generally playing man coverage behind it yep and so if you don't have legit corners that can
13:37lock down and make plays when you blitz it could be a big play for the offense if they're able
13:42to
13:43recognize it see it so that's why it's going to be that's why it was my opinion was so important
13:47to get gonzalez back and now that they got him back you know they got and to ty's point from
13:52last year is
13:52no matter who they play against he should be like i got him wherever he goes i expect nothing less
13:58right i think vrabel should demand i think christian gonzalez should demand that of himself
14:03by saying when we go in there he already know who we get so every every game that's it whoever
14:08the top
14:09guy is hey that's me you know girl david hey you you over there you know we it was pretty
14:14much
14:14established right you know with myself always we knew hey jess it's hard for me michael irvin dallas you
14:20know the offense struggled so bad in that super bowl it's hard to me to see that happening again
14:25oh your offense is like the line better the line should be better obviously dragon drake was hurt
14:32like i they should not struggle that way the offense in that game tomorrow but did you think about it
14:38too great when you are not worried about anybody on the outside as great as drake may played and
14:43carried the team you know on his back as a quarterback no one was threatened on the outside so when
14:50that
14:50happens you bring everybody in and you can send them because no one's going to give up anything on
14:56the back end so that helps the overall now when you got aj brown hopefully you sure it up some
15:01things
15:01on the offensive line you're not going to be crowding you know the box anymore because you got that man
15:07outside that changed i'm telling you that's a huge huge huge win for the patriots especially if they
15:12can get him going early your offense is a hundred times better this year than it is last year i
15:17don't know
15:17like you have a guy that is legitimately wherever you want to put him top seven wide receiver in the
15:23game like that's what you have your offense is a hundred times better this year and you got the
15:29romeo dobbs who is similar to steph diggs but you have an elite offensive player any concern about
15:38henderson trabion uh he's dealing with the ankle injury there is concern that because i thought he's
15:44going to have a big year because of his ability to be a pass catcher but i think they'll run
15:48the
15:48football well you know the i i think the the passing game is going to run through aj brown so
15:55even if you're
15:56missing a guy like uh henderson people don't realize when you have a player like that like when you have
16:02an elite wide receiver it changes the game right imagine um when you look at josh mcdaniel when he
16:08has good receivers he gets creative and he has some good offense going and then you bring in randy moss
16:15right even with tom but that's what that's what this is the equivalent to you bringing in a guy like
16:20aj brown is like the equivalent of bringing randy moss in for tom brady you know what i mean even
16:25though
16:26he's going to have his success they've done great things tom knows how to spread it around as soon
16:30as you give him a randy moss they break the damn record um i want to give you a chance
16:34to talk about
16:35your big event coming up in a couple weeks uh so stand by high laws with us on a tie
16:40to
