00:11My first design, color, style and fit
00:14I find it disturbing, it was an afterthought
00:16Yeah
00:17Just clean it up
00:18I cannot send it in the room
00:20Why would you introduce a poor supporting player?
00:22Why didn't I introduce that? I just introduced it to you
00:26I think my dress very well could get me the win
00:31She looks like a Hershey chocolate
00:34Sound terribly
00:35The hem was the worst and there was just nothing
00:37Emilio
00:39Congratulations

01:03It's cut or be cut
01:04Just make it work

01:15I won't do anything to win
01:16I will
01:17But only one can be the winner
01:20My weapon of choice
01:21For these sixteen designers
01:23Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime
01:26The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine
01:31An opportunity to sell their line on bluefly.com
01:34A $50,000 technology suite to create, design and run their business from HP and Intel
01:40And $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to launch their line
01:45Come on, Jesus, get up
01:46Come on, get up
01:47Come on, get up
01:48Gosh, the worst feeling being in the bottom three
02:00It felt horrible
02:02I wasn't expecting it
02:03But you can never know what to expect from the judges
02:06I need to step up the game
02:07And I need to be more creative on my gown
02:10Challenge
02:11Number two stars
02:12I'm sure we'll do well this time
02:14Much better than the first time
02:16It might well just come out of my head
02:18It's too early
02:22You excited?
02:25Yeah
02:26Challenge
02:27I actually teared up when Christiane walked in
02:29And we were saying goodbye
02:30That's gonna happen one by one to so many people
02:32Until there's just three left
02:34So I'm just glad that I make it through
02:37I hope we do something that's like very New York
02:39Like weird, eccentric New York, you know?
02:42Yeah, cause we'll go to the moon today
02:44Get your ass off the counter
02:46I gotta finish my coffee
02:48It's okay
02:49Come on, come on
02:51No idea what to expect
02:59Hello
03:06Emilio, you won the last challenge
03:09Which gives you immunity for this challenge
03:12I'm very happy
03:13Congratulations
03:14Thank you very much
03:15In this next challenge
03:17We really want to see what you're made of
03:20So we are sending you on a little field trip
03:22To a place that is, well...
03:25A little out there
03:27Sneaky
03:29Tricky Heidi
03:30I don't know if we're going to the moon
03:32I don't know if we're going to a Broadway show
03:34Good luck
03:35And I'll see you on the runway
03:37Bye
03:40Question marks over everyone's head
03:48We are at a farm
03:49And as we walk up
03:50We see Tim standing there
03:52With all of our models wearing potato sacks
03:55Good morning designers
03:56Good morning
03:57Good morning
03:58Welcome to Abma Farm
03:59It's beautiful, isn't it?
04:00Yes
04:01You've heard the expression
04:02She's so beautiful
04:03She'd even look great in a potato sack
04:04Well, you're going to prove that point
04:05For this challenge
04:06You will be creating
04:07A party worthy look
04:08Out of potato sacks
04:09Oh my god
04:10Oh my god
04:11We're making something out of burlap
04:12The first thing that I'm thinking about
04:13Like what am I going to do?
04:14Like what are our options?
04:15This is really exciting for me
04:16The more odd, foreign challenges, the better
04:18There is more
04:19The models are your clients
04:20And they're going to be wearing the look
04:21They're going to be wearing the look
04:22They're going to be wearing the look
04:23They're going to be wearing the look
04:24They're going to be creating
04:25To a special industry event
04:26So our model is our client
04:27Meaning that they get to have a really serious input
04:28In how the garment is put together
04:29And a link to the fact that the models are your clients
04:31They're going to choose the designer
04:32With whom they want to work
04:33The challenges, the better.
04:35There is more.
04:36The models are your clients, and they're going to be wearing the look that you create to
04:39a special industry event.
04:41So our model is our client, meaning that they get to have a really serious input in how
04:45the garment is put together.
04:47And a link to the fact that the models are your clients, they're going to choose the
04:50designer with whom they want to work.
04:53When we learned that the models get to pick us, it was sort of unsettling because on top
04:59of making a dress with a burlap sack, now we have to be wanted.
05:04First up is...
05:06Casey.
05:07Jay.
05:08Ah!
05:09Ah!
05:10Ah!
05:11Ah!
05:12Ah!
05:13Ah!
05:14Ah!
05:15Ah!
05:16Ah!
05:17Kisses.
05:18Ah!
05:19Amelia, get over here.
05:21Hi, Baba.
05:22I'm going to stick with the lovely Anna.
05:25Yeah, baby.
05:26I would still like to have Ben.
05:28I'd love to work with Ping again.
05:33Step.
05:34Aaron.
05:35Come on.
05:36Maya, come on down.
05:38Pamela, you're hired.
05:40I'll make you hot.
05:43We have Alexis next.
05:46I'd like to choose Anthony.
05:49Ah!
05:50OK.
05:51Alexis decided to go with Anthony instead of me.
05:55It kind of just makes me go, hmm, you know, what's up with that?
05:59Like, did she hate my design?
06:01Jessie.
06:02I think I'm going to go with Amy.
06:07I think I'm going to go with Amy.
06:12And then there were two.
06:15Valeria.
06:16Um, it's a hard choice, but Janina, I really like your design.
06:23Please.
06:24Oh, yes.
06:25Thank you so much.
06:26You like me?
06:27Hi.
06:28Hi.
06:29What am I, chopped liver?
06:30So, Mila, as the last designer standing, you can join the last model standing.
06:34Lorena.
06:35All right.
06:36Hey, Lorena.
06:41Designers and models, now you are going to go shopping at our farm stand.
06:46There are a lot of embellishments.
06:48Shop thoughtfully and very strategically.
06:52You will have one day for this challenge.
06:55You can start shopping right now.
06:5715 minutes.
06:58We've got to make a burlap sack look like amazing fashion.
07:05I'm interested to see what happens.
07:07Doc is too safe.
07:08We get to choose from a variety of ribbons, horse hair, zippers, buttons, you know.
07:15So, it's like you're kind of like half trying to have a consultation with your model, half
07:20trying to shop.
07:21I love to dye things.
07:22I think that it's important for me to keep my aesthetic.
07:25So, if someone, you know, tells me I want it to be this, this, this and this and pretty
07:31much designs the whole dress.
07:32That is very difficult for me.
07:34I have an idea already.
07:36I want to play with the texture of the potato sack.
07:40I think I can create a very interesting, very simple garment.
07:44And this is really like feminine.
07:47Lorena and I started talking and as it turns out, we have some similar tastes, I think.
07:53Her idea of a cute dress would be something that's flattering but edgy at the same time.
07:58So, I think it's going to be great.
08:00Designers, models, one minute remains.
08:02I like hippie, flowy, as like...
08:05Alexis already is proving to be very verbal about what she wants.
08:11Like sparkly chew and like a party dress.
08:14I would like to make Alexis happy without sacrificing my staying here.
08:21Period.
08:23Time is up.
08:24You must stop shopping now.
08:27So, grab your potato sack and follow me.
08:30Fal-a-teen.
08:41Working with burlap is not that bad.
08:43I think the problem is trying to make it look expensive.
08:46No one wants to look like they're wearing a burlap sack, so that's the real challenge.
08:51Designers, you have the raw materials of your challenge.
08:59Your models are indeed your client, but don't lose sight of who you are as a designer.
09:03You have until midnight tonight, so make it work, everybody.
09:07Make it work.
09:10If there's one challenge to have immunity in, I think this is the one.
09:14You have to create something that they're going to wear to an event.
09:18And you're using one of the most basic fabrics in the world.
09:21Burlap is probably as old as Moses.
09:25So, Brittany wants a touchy, sexy dress.
09:28I'm going to make her look really sexy.
09:30And I'm just going to add a lot of detail using ribbon in the dress.
09:34Getting a light brown to turn blue is not going to be the easiest thing in the world.
09:38But luckily, I learned how to do an ombra where a color shades from one color to another.
09:43So, the kind of challenge we got seems to fit me perfectly.
09:48This design is going to be just very voluminous and gathered and billowy.
09:54The center will overlap and open up when she walks to kind of look like an upside down flower,
10:00like a tulip, like the petals are opening up.
10:03I think it's very important to make my model happy.
10:05I mean, as witness today, I mean, I can't help but wonder,
10:08was my former model not happy with me and my design?
10:11It's funny that she would pick you over me because I thought we had a fine rapport together
10:17and everything.
10:18So, Mila has decided that she wants to confront me.
10:23I know what the behind thought process for that statement was.
10:28Basically, I know that I sold better than you, I designed better than you,
10:31so I can't imagine why she would choose you.
10:34Yeah, whatever. It's her loss.
10:35Ooh.
10:36Not about you. Not about you.
10:38Okay, don't worry.
10:39Not about me.
10:40I love my feelings in Atlanta, Georgia.
10:43I know that it is a competition, so being courteous sometimes isn't an option for some people.
10:49I'm going to take this and die forever.
10:52But Mila can kiss me and my entire family's asses.
11:04This is a one-day challenge and time is an issue.
11:07The fact that you're using burlap, which is a very difficult material to work with,
11:11a lot of designers are not going to be able to execute the vision that they have in their mind.
11:17I know my way of working is very different, but I was among the top three designers,
11:24so I feel more comfortable and confident of my way of doing things.
11:29Oh my god! You're doing potato prints!
11:31As we were grabbing trims, I also grabbed a couple potatoes
11:34and began immediately thinking about how I could use them and the die to print a pattern on the fabric.
11:41Hi, everybody.
11:44I'm going to check in with all of you a little on the earlier side,
11:47because I'm eager to know what you're doing.
11:49And since I'm here, I'll come to you, Pamela.
11:52Well, I'm working on a dress that's a bustier corset dress.
11:56This ombre is fabulous looking.
11:58Thank you. I love doing it as one of my specialties.
12:00We have the corset.
12:01What's happening below the corset?
12:03It's all one piece.
12:04Should it be one piece?
12:08I kind of like it that way.
12:11I mean, when it's on the runway, no one will know if it's one piece or it's two,
12:16but I'm just thinking purely from a logistical aspect, from a time aspect, and from a fit aspect,
12:21isn't it much more complicated to have this be a single piece than to have it be two?
12:25It could be, except for that I finished the bodice already.
12:29All I have to do is lay it on top of this.
12:30So now it's mostly all straight seams.
12:31If you're confident, I'm with you.
12:33Okay.
12:33I'm with you.
12:34Okay.
12:35Mila.
12:37Hi, Tim.
12:39What's going on?
12:40Well, this treatment in the front, in the center front and center back,
12:43is going to be one of these two.
12:45Now, the other thing that I was trying to incorporate is this tool,
12:49just a tiny little bit of it around the neckline with a raw edge.
12:53Can I just ask you why?
12:54The model really liked it and she gravitated towards it.
12:57No, I know, I know.
12:58That's compromising the integrity of what you're doing.
13:00Well, I'm glad you said that because I was trying to figure out a way to use it and it...
13:04Don't.
13:05Okay.
13:05Don't.
13:06I'm eager to see this.
13:07Go soap.
13:08Okay.
13:08All right.
13:09Thanks, Tim.
13:10So how's Jay?
13:12I'm doing something my style.
13:14And you're treating the edges of all of that?
13:17Yes, so these things will pop out because they're so bright.
13:20So they're going on after you die?
13:22Yes, after.
13:23And you're not worried about time?
13:24Mm-mm.
13:25Really?
13:26Yeah.
13:27All this has to be dyed, it has to dry,
13:29and everything's going to have this trim?
13:31Yes.
13:34I'm flabbergasted.
13:35All right.
13:36I'm going to leave you alone right now.
13:38Okay.
13:38Because do this.
13:39I'm just glad I'm not in your shoes.
13:41Okay.
13:41All right, Jay.
13:42Thank you so much.
13:44Hi, Ping.
13:45Hi, Tim.
13:46Talk to me.
13:47I want to create a neck, like a necklace here.
13:51It will be solid.
13:52So you're carving it basically out of here.
13:53Carving, exactly, exactly.
13:54Got it.
13:55I find it intriguing.
13:56Yes, I know.
13:57I'm always intriguing.
14:00And then my model just wanted something that make her legs longer.
14:07But where does the skirt end?
14:08Skirt end should be short.
14:10I told her it's going to be short.
14:12Okay.
14:13Because can I just tell you if it's just an inch or two below her crotch?
14:17Uh-huh.
14:18That runway is elevated.
14:20Those judges can look.
14:23You don't want it to be vulgar.
14:24That's my point.
14:25Right.
14:27Okay, I can lower it.
14:28No problem.
14:29I can just play this part.
14:31I will just say this.
14:31You have a lot of work to do.
14:32I know.
14:33Okay, go to work.
14:34Thank you, Ping.
14:35Thanks.
14:37How's Amy?
14:37Um, just have the skirt.
14:40I have eight panels and five of them I still have to dry.
14:43Okay.
14:44So I'm a little bit concerned about that.
14:45But I love the treatment of them.
14:47So I did kind of like a dip dye with two different colors.
14:50What's the shape of the top?
14:52My model wanted an open back.
14:54She wanted puffy sleeves with a cuff.
14:57You're the designer.
14:58It doesn't sound like you.
14:59No, it doesn't at all.
15:00If the judges don't like the look, they won't care if your model does.
15:05That's true.
15:05Okay.
15:06Okay.
15:07Make it work, Amy.
15:08Thanks so much.
15:09Jesus.
15:10Yes, Mr. Tim.
15:11What are you up to?
15:12Well, my motto is Britney.
15:16She has an amazing body, so she wanted a really, really fitted skirt.
15:19This skirt's going to be like this, and I'm going to use this thicker ribbon to make them thicker as
15:25we go, and then add this to them.
15:28So is the burlap completely disappearing?
15:29Um, yes.
15:33The challenge was to work with a potato sack.
15:38The skirt's 100% ribbons.
15:41Where's the potato sack?
15:44Underneath.
15:44I have to think that's a problem.
15:48It's not intended to be a potato sack undergarment on which we have 100% embellishment.
15:55I would say, forgive the pun, you've skirted the challenge.
15:57Okay.
16:00Okay.
16:00All right, Jesus.
16:01All right, I think it's him.
16:02Think, think, think, and then work, work, work.
16:04Cool.
16:06I did cover all the potato sack thing, but I think it was just one of those details
16:10that I think that made my dress look cocktail in the evening.
16:14It's going to look good in the runway, and I have to be Jesus.
16:19All right, designers.
16:20We'll have a big runway show, and I want those judges' socks to go blowing off their feet.
16:25I'm sending in your models, okay?
16:29So, make it work.
16:29I'll see you tomorrow.
16:31Bye, Sam.
16:34Come in, come in, come in.
16:36Come in, come in, come in, come in, come in.
16:38You know, you know.
16:39Okay, here's the idea.
16:43Sarah is liking the idea that we're doing like the bare shoulders, and that we're sculpting it in.
16:49So, it would be a little sexy, but not totally naked.
16:53Alice had an idea of what she wanted her dress to look like, which is why it was even more
16:58important that if I was going to stick with my aesthetic and my idea, it was going to have
17:02to blow her away no matter what.
17:04I really want to get you into it.
17:05I want to make sure your buttocks are covered.
17:08Yeah, let's make sure the buttocks are covered.
17:09That would be nice.
17:11I love pink.
17:12She's very good at that Asian influence look, but her lack of experience in actual construction
17:20scares me.
17:22Now, okay, keep it on.
17:24Why did Tim say he was worried?
17:25He said, because I use too much ribbon, so you have to sell it.
17:29Brittany loved the dress, but she was also a little concerned about what I had told her that Tim had
17:34told me.
17:35But I'm really confident.
17:36I feel that she's going to back me up in the runway, and I feel that I'm still going to be in the
17:39competition at this point.
17:41It's not as low as I wanted it to be.
17:44There was a few things that I was thinking of, so I just want to put it out there.
17:47I wanted to know what you thought about the buttons and the fringy thing.
17:53Alexis is wanting blue buttons on a cocktail dress.
18:02I don't know.
18:03That looks so cool.
18:04I'm glad you're happy.
18:05My model really digs the design, so in a way, I felt that, you know, I was blessed to have Alexis
18:13diss me, basically.
18:16You're going to be sultry.
18:17Oh, perfect.
18:18I'm good.
18:18Go, go, go.
18:19You've got your work set up for you.
18:20I'm pump on time.
18:25I am okay on time at this point.
18:28People who are dying their fabric are definitely at a time disadvantage.
18:31It's literally just a disaster area for everyone involved.
18:36Oh my God, why is this navy blue?
18:39The base of the skirt turned out navy blue, and that's not the color that I am looking for.
18:46It's very stressful to find myself in a situation where I'm half done at midnight the night before the fashion show.
18:59I hope my dress gets done in time.
19:10Okay, I have a few things still to do.
19:12I've got to turn up the hem, and I've got to, um, fine-tune the back closures.
19:16And I don't want to be one of those people that sews people into their dresses.
19:20He'll be fine.
19:20Yeah.
19:21Put on your game face.
19:23Don't let him know I'm terrified.
19:25Shoes or boots?
19:31Shoes or boots?
19:32As soon as I, like, get to the workroom, though, I'm going to be, like, in full adrenaline mode.
19:37I know.
19:37There comes a point where, like, I almost feel like I'm not going to finish.
19:41I know.
19:44I'm freaking out about the fact that I have a lot to do.
19:48I just want to finish my garment.
19:51Come on, guys.
19:52Let's go to Parsons.
19:53Parsons, here we come.
20:06So, Janine, how's yours coming?
20:08I have a few things to do.
20:10Yeah, me too.
20:11Yeah.
20:11I am stressed for time, which is, you know, I'm getting used to at this point.
20:15That coffee did not do its job.
20:18You just put this through.
20:20I pulled it through, and now it will work.
20:27Oh, it's attached to the zipper tape, so no.
20:29Okay.
20:30Good morning, everybody.
20:35Good morning, Tim.
20:37All right, designers.
20:38You have two hours to send your models to the L'Oreal Paris makeup room and the Garnier
20:43hair salon, all right?
20:46Use the bluefly.com wall very thoughtfully, and use every second you have this morning
20:54to pull these looks together.
20:55I know you have a lot to do, all right?
20:58All right, I'm sending in your models.
20:59Make it work.
21:00Thank you, Tim.
21:01Thank you, Tim.
21:01Thank you, Tim.
21:02Thank you, Tim.
21:05Oh, my goodness.
21:05How are you doing?
21:06How are you doing?
21:07Did you try anything on?
21:08Um, not at this moment.
21:10I think we're good, because we know that the, you know, the muslin fit beautifully.
21:14The dress, like, speaks enough for itself.
21:16The second that she saw the look, she fell in love with it.
21:19I do feel I was able to balance not only what my client wanted, but also my personal aesthetic.
21:25It's very hectic this time. Everyone's very panicked. They're running around like crazy,
21:32and I think half of the contestants are going to have to sew their models into the dress.
21:37My first thought when I see Ping's design is...
21:40To, like, exaggerate your pelvic movement.
21:44The garment's not functional. It doesn't cover her ass.
21:50And so, you know, I'm worried, but, I mean, then I look over at Ping and she's smiling.
21:54Because it adds a little something, you know?
21:55So, I'm like, maybe I'm not worried. Maybe it's supposed to be an ass flap.
21:59I don't know. It's just all very strange.
22:09You look stunning.
22:12Really?
22:16It's really cool.
22:24It's just a runway day.
22:28Yeah, push them up, baby. Push them up.
22:31Pamela, her model tried on her dress, and I was like, this thing has a big old butt.
22:40Like, it looks huge in the garment.
22:45Designers, models, 10 minutes. Use your time well. I will be back. Thank you.
22:51There's so much going on right here that the zipper, there's not enough room for it to slide up on the teeth.
22:59Is it killing you?
23:05Casey, everyone is running around like chickens with their heads cut off. It's, it's crazy.
23:13All right. Designers, models, I never dreamed that humble potato sacks could look this grand.
23:27You've done a fabulous job. Bring your equipment with you. We're going down to the runway now.
23:33Let's go.
23:42Beautiful.
23:44Mila?
23:47It's just you.
23:50Thank you. All right, that's it.
23:52Welcome to the runway. As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day, you're out.
24:09There are 15 of you here, and after tonight, there will be 14.
24:14Your challenge this week was based on the age-old saying that a beautiful woman could look good in anything,
24:21even a potato sack. Your job was to turn a plain potato sack into a party look for your model.
24:28All right, let's meet the judges.
24:31First, we have top American designer, Michael Kors.
24:34Hey, guys.
24:34Hi.
24:35Fashion director for Marie Claire magazine, Nina Garcia.
24:38Hello.
24:40American icon, model, actress, and adventurer, Lauren Hutton.
24:49We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
24:52One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
24:56Emilio, you won the last challenge, which gives you immunity, and you cannot be eliminated this week.
25:03All right, let's start the show.
25:10The dress turned out to exceed my expectations, and Alexis looked like she was going to a party
25:16that she would be appreciated by people who appreciate true fashion and glamour.
25:21As soon as she walked on the runway, I not only see that her buttocks is revealed,
25:35but also the skirt part of this dress really looks like potato sacks.
25:40I'm ecstatic.
25:49I feel that it was classic and still young and modern is timeless,
25:55and it could be appropriate for this year or 10 years from now.
25:59My dress actually turned out almost exactly the way I envisioned it.
26:06Not only did I make my model happy, my client, but I also feel like I made something that
26:14someone would wear to a nightclub out of a potato sack.
26:17I believe that I maintained my own perspective as a designer, but I think ultimately the vision
26:27that we shared together resulted in something that was pleasing to both of us.
26:34It's really awesome.
26:36Ultimately, I'm the only one that did pants, so I think it's definitely the look and the sophistication
26:41with still that youthful and that fun kind of edge.
26:44It's definitely a mix of everything I like to do.
26:50Our challenge was to take a potato sack, transform it into something beautiful for a client,
26:56yet stick to who we are as a designer and our point of view.
27:00I achieved that a hundred, two and a half percent.
27:06It's definitely my aesthetic.
27:09I also am all about sticking with the kind of organic qualities of the burlap, and I think that
27:15that was communicated in the garment.
27:18I am so happy.
27:21I feel like that dress described where I'm coming from as a designer.
27:26This was a good challenge for me.
27:28I'm very happy with the garment that I made.
27:34It's form-fitting.
27:35It fits well, and it's flirty, and it looks very Jay Nicholas, sorry.
27:43What Holly and I wanted to do was keep the integrity of the burlap.
27:48She got the dress length, the colors that she wanted, and I got the fit silhouette, and the overall look
27:56that I was envisioning for her.
28:01I think that my dress looked elegant on the runway because I think that that's one of the biggest
28:06things that I'm really, really good with construction. So I feel that my dress was really
28:10well constructed. I am happy with my dress, but I'm a little concerned because I didn't take Tim's advice.
28:18You know, I think that I'm showing something that's very different from what everybody else is,
28:25and like I went above and beyond and produced something that was amazing quality, amazing finish,
28:30and definitely made my client happy.
28:34And I have to say it wasn't my favorite dress that I have done, but I made it work.
28:38It wasn't at all what I had planned on doing. That's what happens when you're using a sack.
28:43I'm fairly confident with it that it is answering the client's needs, and it actually is looking
28:53like faded denim, which was part of my idea is to make it look like kind of blue jeans.
28:58I'm like, ooh, the back is sticking out a little bit more than I had intended. Uh-oh,
29:03that's not good. Well, don't turn toward the judges too much.
29:06If I call your name, please step forward. Pamela, please step forward. Mila. Ping. Jay. Jesus. Amy.
29:24If I did not call your name, congratulations. Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next
29:33challenge. You can leave the runway. Thank you. The six of you represent the highest and the lowest
29:42scores. One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out. Let's bring out your models.
29:54I would like to start with Jay. Oh, my God. Tell us about your look. I love to make patterns. I love
30:05to show style lines and, you know, adding things like this to make it, you know, feel so feminine.
30:10When she first came out, I said, did he cheat? Are they feathers? What is it? Did he shred organza?
30:16Really well done. Thank you. I think he's made burlap look expensive. Very, very nicely abstract. It's
30:23lovely. Pamela. What I did was a narrow dress in a blue shade and did kind of corset shaping in the top.
30:31I did the dyeing and got it to do an ombra to kind of give a faded blue jean look. The dress is too
30:38short and too tight on your model. It also looks almost not sophisticated. You're talking about
30:47a girl who can kind of wear anything. You know, here it is. She can wear a potato sack. Well,
30:53I have a feeling that a plain potato sack would be more flattering on her. I have to say the dyeing
30:58is beautifully done. Yeah. It is. You guys are going to an industry event, so will you be comfortable
31:03wearing that? Um... Wow, that says it all. You don't have to even say anything anymore now. Well,
31:09um... Mila, tell us about your look. I just sort of visualized this color and I thought,
31:17can I push myself to make something that is actually a little bit futuristic and modern
31:24out of this fabric that's associated with, you know, the farm? I have to say I'm absolutely in love
31:30with this dress. I don't like this gaping. I like that it gapes. That you feel like you can sort of see a
31:36little bit booby here and there, but not everything. Well, the boys will like it.
31:41You went from the farm to the future and it looks fantastic. Thank you. Okay, Ping,
31:48tell us about your look. Originally, I was expecting, um, um, the skin color would contrast with
31:55the patterns I created on this, but her skin is so, so close to the original color of the,
32:02of this fabric, so it's not much contrast. I like it, Ping. Thank you. I mean, if you turn around,
32:11we see a butt. Yeah, it does. That's a problem. She could go to a party with a thousand people.
32:17They'll notice you. They'll notice you and that your entire ass is hanging out. And I should pay
32:23more attention on the instructions. You know, first they said it's industrial party. I really thought
32:28there was a county fair potato party. You do have an edgy eye. You do, you know, but does it really
32:35translate into real fashion? That's, you know, what I'm concerned about. She keeps working it, Will.
32:40You've got a lot of competition. Jesus, if we're talking about percentage right now, how much
32:46percentage is potato sack and how much percentage is other fabric? So the whole bodice is potato sack,
32:54and then I layer the ribbon on top of it. I don't, I'm not so sure if I like that.
33:01I thought it was a whole nother material. You know. You've sewn together ribbons,
33:04close together. Is that what he did? Yes. I feel like I don't see enough of,
33:08of the challenge in a way. Dresses should be like paintings, especially ones like this.
33:13And that's sort of a, a very confused, a salt on the eye painting. Jesus, what I would really like
33:21to see from you is something a little cooler, younger. Amy, tell us about your look.
33:28For Alison and I, it was really important to retain the organic quality of the burlap. And the top is
33:35just a simple cowl with an open back, which is something that Alison really likes, um, an open
33:42back. And she wanted something that, that moves and, uh, makes her feel fun and pretty on the runway.
33:48You used the fabric, but made it flirty, made it feminine. You didn't try to disguise it.
33:55You've taken burlap and made it into a real working dress material. Thank you.
34:01Okay. We've heard what you had to say. I'm going to have a little chat and then we call you back.
34:06You can leave the runway. Thank you.
34:14I do have to say as a general comment to this challenge, you know, making clothes out of
34:19potato sack material, I thought it was fantastic. I was blown away. Spectacular. Let's talk about
34:26the designers that we did like. Who first? How about Jay? Love that transformation. You would have
34:35never guessed that was a burlap sack. And a lot of work also. He really did everything by hand. There
34:42was no smoke and mirrors. The heaviness of the burlap was made light again by the featheriness of
34:48everything. No, he did a great job. Yeah. Mila. I thought that was an amazing dress. I really loved it.
34:59The last word that you would think of when you say burlap bag is hot. You know, edgy and hot.
35:06It was a real collaboration between Mila and Lorena. It had that. They're both of their aesthetics.
35:12And it was good because she has a good look too. Okay, let's move on to Amy. That was a very
35:20sophisticated dress, very chic dress. She's the only one who actually let you see the potato sack
35:28so that you knew it was potato sack, but she transformed it. She gloried in it. To buy the front
35:33and have those incredibly chic sarong sides, that halter sides, that was, I was very impressed with her.
35:42Let's move on to the designers that we weren't quite that impressed with.
35:50Let's start with Jesus. It really bothered me how the color just stopped at the center.
35:55Yeah, it was weird. It makes your ass also look asymmetrical.
35:58So you have one big cheek and one small cheek. Yeah.
36:01I'm concerned about his sense of color. Or lack thereof.
36:04Yes. I mean, all I've seen is brown and this pea green.
36:07Let's move on to Ping. I don't know if she really doesn't understand half of the things that we
36:15tell her or if she's trying to use that for a benefit. But clearly, every other designer
36:21understood the challenge. I don't know. I think she doesn't listen. You know,
36:25she's sending her model out bare butt. If she had been able to properly line that,
36:29I'll bet she could have made something interesting out of it. I agree.
36:32You know, the question is, do we want to see more from Ping?
36:41Okay, let's move on to Pamela.
36:43I really question not only the creativity, but then I have to question the fact that this dress
36:50made this girl with a great body look bigger. Where the seams were, the widest part of the hips,
36:55she's got the widest part of the seam and nothing is pointing. No, literally like an arrow. I want
37:00to have a big butt. Yeah. I do have to say though, Pamela's dress was well made. She dyed it to make it look
37:07like denim. It did look exactly like denim. Okay, so we've made up our mind. All right, let's bring them back out.
37:20The six of you represent the best and the worst. One of you will be named the winner and one of you
37:32will be out.
37:41One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
37:45Amy, you're in. You can leave the runway. Thank you.
37:57Jay, you turned her burlap potato sack into a beautiful and sophisticated cocktail dress. Your
38:05look was perfectly appropriate for an industry event. Mila, what you did with that material was
38:11amazing. It was modern, sleek and unexpected. Jay, you're in. And you're the winner of this challenge.
38:22Congratulations.
38:25Thank you so much.
38:26It leaves the runway.
38:28Wow, I can't believe this is, this is happening. I'm really happy to win the challenge. I felt like I
38:34was in heaven. It's so amazing.
38:43Mila, you're in. You can leave the runway. Thank you.
38:52Ping, you're in. Thank you. You can leave the runway. Thanks.
38:58Pamela, Jesus, one of you will be out.
39:09Pamela, your dress was not at all flattering for your model. We question your taste level and ability
39:18to be fashion forward.
39:19Jesus, you missed the point of the challenge. Instead of using the potato sack as your main fabric,
39:29you covered it up. Your dress was mundane and matronly. Jesus, you're in.
39:41Jesus, you're in. Thank you so much. And I'll show you I'm capable of doing more next time.
39:52It leaves the runway.
40:01I'm sorry, Pamela. That means you're out.
40:03Thank you very much for the opportunity. If he doesn't, thank you. Bye-bye. Thank you very much.
40:17It's going to sound hugely dramatic, but I fall in love with people very easily.
40:23All people in this competition. I'm really, really proud to know that they were my friends.
40:28I liked every single one of them. I know the whole point is we're supposed to try to beat each other,
40:34you know? I know that's the point. And I know we're supposed to get to fashion week and be like,
40:38oh, I stomped on you. But nobody's really thinking that in their heart. They're all kind of like,
40:44but I wish I could be there too. Pamela, we're going to miss you.
40:46Oh, it's going to be wonderful. Thank you. You're such a great mentor.
40:52So I have to send you to the work room to clean up your space, okay?
40:54Okay. Thank you.
40:55All right. Bye, Pamela. Bye, Pamela.
40:59Bye. I'm never going to stop designing. And I'm a teacher at a college,
41:05so I'm definitely going to continue the teaching too.
41:25I'm not going to stop designing.
41:29I'm not going to stop designing.
41:31I'm not going to stop designing.
41:33I'm not going to stop designing.
41:35I'm not going to stop designing.
41:37I'm not going to stop designing.
41:39I'm not going to stop designing.
41:41I'm not going to stop designing.
41:43I'm not going to stop designing.
41:45I'm not going to stop designing.
41:47I'm not going to stop designing.
41:49I'm not going to stop designing.
41:51I'm not going to stop designing.
41:53I'm not going to stop designing.
