00:01Previously on Project Runway...
00:03Michael's going to present you with your next challenge.
00:05You know, one of the things that's so exciting to see
00:07is how are designers inspired.
00:09I'm definitely taking a risk here.
00:11I mean, his dress looks like an Amish woman would wear.
00:14You have this beautiful neck piece, but then there is no dress.
00:22Irina, you are the winner of this challenge.
00:24You gave us a majorly luxe look.
00:27Nicolas, you sadly missed the mark.
00:29I think you got the wrong grease.
00:31I think you got grease the movie with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.
00:34I'm sorry, Nicolas. That means you're out.
00:40This is Project Runway.
00:42Of course I'm the best.
00:43The search for the next big fashion designer.
00:45I have to win. I'm in, you're out.
00:48I'm the best designer here.
00:50I have no fear.
00:51Make it work.
00:52That's my one.
00:53This is my dream.
00:54For these 16 designers, Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
00:59The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine,
01:04a Paris vacation courtesy of Avion,
01:06and $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to start their own line.
01:10Six left.
01:18Two boys.
01:19How did that happen?
01:20I don't know.
01:21At this point in the competition, there's six of us left, so I really feel like it's time for all of us to step outside of our comfort zone.
01:28I've really put out pieces that I like.
01:30Yup.
01:31But I've got to get the judges to get it.
01:34During this whole process, you know, I've been all over the place.
01:38Congratulations, congratulations, great work, good work, fantastic, stunning.
01:42Now, sucky, we hate it. We hate you. You're fat.
01:47Even though Bryant Park is just a couple challenges away, it still feels like it's the moon.
01:56I kind of like that there's so many more girls than boys there.
01:59It's nice because I feel like the fashion business is so dominated by men.
02:03Yeah.
02:04And that sucks because I think women have a very valid point, especially when it comes to dressing women.
02:10Themselves, yeah.
02:11You know?
02:12Right now, I feel like the strongest designers are myself, Irina, and Carol Hanna.
02:19I think that Logan and Christopher, they've shown repeatedly they're, you know, can't be at the top of this competition.
02:26And I think Jordana as well.
02:28At this point, the judges know that we all can make clothes.
02:31Right.
02:32Now we have really to show our imagination as a designer.
02:36Yeah.
02:37I need to show the judges I can make more than dresses because pretty much all I've done here is dresses and that's my thing, so that's good.
02:45But it's kind of time to really do something for runway.
02:49Ready?
02:50Yeah.
02:51You guys sound like twins.
02:52That's a compliment.
02:53Aw.
02:54I want to get to work.
02:55Let's do it.
03:04We are doing something very unusual.
03:06Ugh.
03:07We are facing away from the runway, which we've never done before.
03:11You hear this rustling and you have no idea what's going on.
03:15Oh, man.
03:16It's one of the most horrifying moments.
03:20Hello.
03:21Hi.
03:22Designers, you can turn around.
03:23Hey, Heidi.
03:26We turn around and our winning looks are on stage.
03:30And my first thought is, oh, gosh, I hope we don't want to cut them up because I really don't want to.
03:37Well, as you can see here, you have proven your talent time and time again.
03:42And this is just a reminder of some of your best moments on the runway.
03:46Well, your challenge is to create a companion piece that complements and enhances your best look.
03:55Ugh.
03:56I hated sitting there and seeing all the other designers winning looks.
04:02Mine was the only one up there that wasn't a winning look.
04:05But I'm glad that the judges chose that piece for me to work with off the first challenge.
04:10This is a chance for me to really prove something.
04:13Tim is waiting for you in the workroom to fill you in on all the details.
04:17And I'm going to see you on the runway.
04:19Good luck.
04:20Bye.
04:21Bye.
04:22I definitely think this challenge is going to point out where the real talent is and where, like, the sort of lucky wins were.
04:30I just think there are a few people that are still here that should have gone home.
04:36Hello, designers.
04:46Hey.
04:47You have 30 minutes to sketch.
04:50Afterwards, we're going shopping at Mood, where you will have a budget of $100.
04:54And you have until midnight tonight to complete your look.
04:58So get ready.
05:00It gets harder and harder.
05:02Your 30 minutes to sketch will start right now.
05:04Okay?
05:05Thank you, everyone.
05:07The challenge is to create a new look that is based on your best look.
05:14My first look has a paper bag waist and it's a shorter skirt.
05:17And I want to take that paper bag waist and put it on a pair of pants.
05:21And the jacket of the first look is a play off a man's jacket.
05:26And what I want to do with that is really make it big.
05:29I do really like to play with volume as a designer.
05:32And I don't know if I've gotten to do that whole lot in this competition.
05:35I'm happy to be working with the Aspen look.
05:39Because you kind of have to do a second look that complements your first look.
05:43But it has to be completely different.
05:45So that's sort of how you build a collection.
05:48My winning look is the divorcee challenge.
05:54It's kind of like an edgy look.
05:56And I'm imagining some kind of blazer on top and a pants.
06:01But I'm still deciding on the pants part.
06:04This challenge, more than any of the others, we really have to take our own inspiration and take it to the next level.
06:12My winning look was a shorter dress.
06:15And I find that my strengths are actually gowns.
06:19And so I'm given the opportunity to create a long version of the original dress and do a different spin on it.
06:27All right, designers, your sketching time is up.
06:30Let's head off to mood.
06:36All right, everybody.
06:37You have a hundred dollar budget and you have 30 minutes to shop.
06:42For me, it all begins and ends right here.
06:45All right, so your 30 minutes begins now.
06:48Go, go, go.
06:50What do I need?
06:53My original concept for my design is taking some of the zippers that were in my previous garment and just multiplying that up.
07:01That, sir, is a zipper.
07:03I purchased 40 zippers.
07:05Wow.
07:06She's just going to have trims and bits and pieces all over her.
07:09The first thing in my head is to find the exact same metallic satin that I use for the top.
07:14But this thought occurs in my head.
07:16Change it up a little bit.
07:18This is pretty.
07:19Get this.
07:20I dig through and I find this silver version of the same material.
07:24So I decide to get 30 yards.
07:28I'm going to go big.
07:29I'm going to go huge.
07:30Three yards?
07:31Yes.
07:32So I'm at mood.
07:33I know exactly what I want to get.
07:34And then I spot this, like, really gorgeous fabric.
07:37Designers, you have 15 minutes remaining.
07:40So I decide to swap the skirt fabric.
07:4315 minutes, everybody.
07:44I'm actually going to do a dress instead.
07:46Yeah.
07:47Mm-hmm.
07:48Like what kind of fabric?
07:49It doesn't really matter as long as it looks really enriched.
07:52My winning look had a lot of feathers and a lot of sequins.
07:55And I decided to avoid both of those completely.
07:58I want to do something that connects to it but isn't, like, here's another look made out of the same crap.
08:04I'm going to take this out between a dress and, like, a separates combo.
08:07Let me ask you this.
08:08Because I'm more towards dresses, but...
08:09What will sustain you throughout the course of the day?
08:14I'm not really a pants person, but I haven't made anything else.
08:17Then do it.
08:18In order to take some risks and really be uber creative with this, you need to be in something of a comfort zone.
08:24Okay.
08:25And if you're out of your zone, it's not going to happen for you, I'm afraid.
08:28Okay.
08:29All right, does that help?
08:31That helps a lot.
08:32That helps a ton.
08:33Go, go, go.
08:34Five minutes.
08:36You have $6 to spend.
08:37Okay.
08:41One yard, please.
08:42Time's up.
08:43That's it.
08:44Okay.
08:45How much do you have left over?
08:46Like, pennies?
08:4750 cents.
08:48Told you guys, I'm good at spending money.
08:49Thank you, Mood.
08:50Thank you, babe.
09:02My concept is still developing.
09:05You always do this.
09:06You always, like, know exactly what you're doing, and you're just like...
09:08And I, like, lay things out and, like, do nothing for, like, an hour.
09:13I have too many ideas, so I'm kind of trying to wrap my brain around all these things and
09:18figure out exactly what I want to do.
09:21Coffee.
09:24Right now, I'm really working with a pattern of the fabric, placing it in a way that's, like,
09:29flattering to a woman's body.
09:31My first look is about a woman who's, like, in Aspen, and she's, you know, sipping a glass
09:36of champagne at the lodge.
09:38The second look is about work.
09:41Not to say it's, like, an office look, but it's definitely a bit more, sort of, clean
09:45and polished.
09:49Is that enough tape, do you think, or should I do more?
09:51I like it.
09:52Because it makes them, like, not just black pants.
09:54Yeah.
09:55My game plan is I want to get my pants in first.
09:58Yeah, because look at my sketches so much more.
10:00They're sort of the most tailored part of my look, and I really want these to be, you know,
10:05just perfect.
10:06They look like Melbourne pants.
10:08I'm going to do a pair of dog first, like chicken thighs.
10:11Oh.
10:12Well done.
10:13Don't tell me that.
10:14She's got, like, a leg.
10:15That's not bad.
10:16Yeah, we got eliminated on the pants.
10:17Oh.
10:18Don't be sensitive.
10:19No, you're going to give her a heart attack.
10:21Jeez.
10:22Somebody's so sensitive.
10:23I feel that there is a new energy and there is a new tension a little bit now.
10:33We are so close to the top three that everybody is even more careful now.
10:39They don't want to really mess it up.
10:42Everybody is nervous because nobody wants to go home.
10:51Coming up on Project One Nice.
10:53Right now it looks like it's waiting for a diaper.
10:56I look over and Logan's collar is, like, completely has a zipper thing.
11:02Now it's stealing ideas.
11:03Oh, what a disaster.
11:05So fast.
11:19Figured it out yet?
11:20Working out.
11:22Now more than ever, the pressure's on.
11:25One of us is going home and it's not one out of 15, 14, 10.
11:30It's one out of six.
11:31Looking around the room, I've got five other designers that I'm competing against.
11:37But my chances to get to Bryant Park, I feel, are good just because I'm showing a different
11:42point of view.
11:43Just coming from Idaho, it's kind of a different thing, you know.
11:47I'll go out and work on my car and get my hands greasy and then start making a dress.
11:52So it's kind of this best of both worlds.
11:55Oh, being top six is unbelievable, especially with my humble starting.
12:00I'm from Bosnia, but I'm like a Bosnian Serb.
12:03My village is on the border between Serbia and Bosnia.
12:07My parents have no education.
12:09They're just farmers.
12:10And to be where I am today, it's just something unbelievable.
12:15I can't decide where things need to go.
12:20I feel like these fight each other.
12:22Depends on what you're trying to do, though.
12:24Right now, my look is in that weird stage right before you fully commit to what you're
12:30doing.
12:31You really just want to make it right.
12:33Too many options.
12:34But that's so hard when you're this close to Brian Park.
12:37I'm going to commit.
12:38I think.
12:41This is an opportunity for the judges to see our true personalities.
12:47And I think when my garment walks down the runway, they're going to look at it and go,
12:52that's a Christopher piece.
12:55Christopher goes out and buys 30 yards of lining, which is kind of his signature for a
13:03lot of the challenges is just volume, volume, volume.
13:06How's your white mountain?
13:08Mountainous.
13:09I don't know if the judges are sick of it yet, but some of the fabrics that he buys just
13:14look cheap to me.
13:1630 yards.
13:17I don't know what he's doing.
13:23Hi, designers.
13:24Hi, Tim.
13:25I'm here to check in with you.
13:27Carol Hannah.
13:28Hello.
13:29How are you?
13:30That doesn't sound good.
13:31Talk to me.
13:32I feel like it's a big, scary mess.
13:34You're not going to get an argument from me.
13:36No.
13:37I hate to tell you.
13:38And there's a lot of crap on it right now because I'm just sticking things on here.
13:42But I really like this fabric and I think the color is really cool.
13:47What happens if this is under that?
13:51That's cool.
13:52It's beautiful.
13:53Now you have a fabulous textile happening.
13:55Yay.
13:56All right.
13:57You just had a major breakthrough with this.
13:59Okay.
14:00I'm going to make some magic.
14:01Make magic is right.
14:02All right.
14:05So, Irina.
14:06Oh, yeah.
14:07I'm good.
14:08Talk to me.
14:09I'm going to make a new shirt and a top.
14:10And then as I was checking out, I found this fabric.
14:14It's like a tapestry almost.
14:15It is.
14:16So, I decided to do a really full, voluminous sweater to go with like a tiny sort of dress.
14:22Well, Irina, I will say this.
14:24It is completely unexpected.
14:27In a good way?
14:29Yeah.
14:30Okay.
14:31But you need this cardigan.
14:33I do.
14:34I think it makes it younger and it makes it more playful.
14:38I agree.
14:39I'm very excited about where this can go.
14:42Thank you, Tim.
14:43Christopher.
14:44Tim, talk to me.
14:45All right.
14:46This was my wedding look.
14:47It's fabulous still.
14:49And so, I'm trying to revisit that.
14:50Instead of just covering the whole piece in the texture, it's just going to be around
14:54the bottom here and kind of just a little couple pieces kind of coming up.
14:58Can I show you my thoughts?
14:59Yes, please.
15:00This is youthful, vibrant, sexy.
15:07For me, this looks like her mother.
15:10This doesn't go as well as planned.
15:13And in terms of those appliques, I think you have to rethink the positioning of them.
15:18You have a lot of work to do.
15:19I know.
15:20And not a lot of time.
15:21No.
15:22All right.
15:23So, I'm going to leave you alone.
15:24All right.
15:25Thank you, Tim.
15:26Thank you, Christopher.
15:27I appreciate it.
15:28Althea.
15:29Hey.
15:30How are you?
15:31I really am looking forward to my model fitting because I sort of have the pants together,
15:36but it's all about proportion on Tanisha.
15:38I'm concerned about the transition from the tight fit at the bottom to the volume up at
15:44the waistline because right now it looks like it's waiting for a diaper.
15:49I know.
15:50The pants are a bit scary right now, but I do have a ton of confidence in them.
15:53They're scary.
15:54I have confidence in you.
15:55I have confidence in you, too, because the sketch is stunning.
15:58And if you can pull that off, I can see everybody wanting to have it.
16:01Yeah.
16:02All right, Althea.
16:03Move forward.
16:04Cool.
16:07Logan, I'm excited already.
16:08Talk to me.
16:09So, my main inspiration off of this piece is just to kind of take the color palette and
16:13the zippers and just turn up the volume.
16:16That's what you're supposed to do.
16:18I'm using all the zippers for the collar.
16:21Just, I think they'll be a cool, like, glitz as soon as the lights hit it on the runway.
16:26So, I look over and Logan's collar is, like, completely has a zipper thing, which is, like,
16:31the same collar that I did in the Christina Aguilera challenge.
16:34This is the heaviest collar known to man.
16:37I was a little annoyed, but I personally liked how I used it better anyway, so.
16:42All right, you still have a lot of work to do.
16:44There's a lot of refinement.
16:45Yeah.
16:46But this is definitely in the wow category.
16:49Thank you, Logan.
16:50Thank you, Tim.
16:51Jordana, talk to me.
16:52This is my inspiration.
16:53Mm-hmm.
16:54It's a little bit rock and roll.
16:57It's a little bit industrial.
16:59Mm-hmm.
17:00So, how are you finishing the edges?
17:01I'm actually, I like the edges like this.
17:04You do?
17:05Yeah, I like it like that.
17:06I like to fit, you know, it's so feminine, and then I like the roughness of it.
17:10Well, then you have to just stand by that as being a major force in the whole direction
17:16of this design.
17:17What the ?
17:18How uncreative are you that you have to steal all these people?
17:25I hate Logan.
17:27I don't know if I should say anything or not.
17:30Yeah, help you.
17:31I will, if it looks more.
17:32I see you're inspired by my people.
17:33Mm-hmm.
17:34I'm gonna get better right now.
17:36And I mean, I'm gonna tell you, you're taking risks.
17:41I applaud that.
17:42So, stand by it.
17:43All right.
17:44Thank you, Jordana.
17:45Thank you, Tim.
17:46Designers, I just want to tell you that I am tremendously excited about the potential
17:55that each of you is demonstrating.
17:56And I am very mindful of the fact that after tomorrow's runway show, there will only be five
18:02of you.
18:04So, you have until midnight tonight, use your time exceedingly well.
18:11And I'm going to send in your models for a fitting right now.
18:15Hi.
18:16Hey.
18:17You're amazing.
18:18Where are you?
18:19You're so cute.
18:20Okay.
18:21So, you're so cute.
18:22What we're going to do first is get you fitted into this.
18:25Okay.
18:26All right.
18:27Get naked.
18:28Get naked.
18:29It's cool so far.
18:30And I know that it's not even here yet.
18:32Yeah, true.
18:33It started like 10 minutes ago.
18:38Yeah, this needs to be cut down though for sure.
18:40Is it too tight?
18:41It is a little tight.
18:42Go, go, go, go, go.
18:44Christopher's dress.
18:45What are you going to say about it other than why is one dress throwing up the other?
18:50Arms up.
19:00Oh, I'm so annoyed.
19:01Do you remember our jacket with the zipper on the collar?
19:04Yeah.
19:05Lower and stir up.
19:06It has to be all zippers on the collar.
19:09I'm like, I'm so pissed.
19:11Just because like, why is he even here?
19:13He's never had one look that's in the top three.
19:15Not one.
19:16And he came down, he's like stealing ideas.
19:21He's so annoyed.
19:22He thinks because he's like cute, he can do whatever the .
19:24I'm like really annoyed.
19:26Oh my goodness.
19:27Yeah.
19:28Oh my goodness.
19:29Okay, we'll see you all right now.
19:32Bye girl.
19:33Mwah.
19:34Done thinking.
19:36Now I'm going to work.
19:38Time is not on my side.
19:40For hours and hours and hours, I'm going to create my flowers.
19:43I'm going to hand apply them to the black overdress.
19:46Keep in mind that when I did the first dress, it took me eight hours to sew on all of those petals.
19:53I'm getting a little worried.
19:55I think a lot of designers have to worry.
19:57Usually, you know, I could pick out like one or two that I think might be in trouble.
20:01But at this point, now that I have a minute to see what everybody else did, I think a lot of them should be worried.
20:08There's just no way for me to like get in between these zippers.
20:13Oh, what a disaster.
20:16Let's go home.
20:18All right.
20:22Nightmare.
20:23Coming up on Project Runway.
20:26Oh!
20:27This is it.
20:28Who's taking all this stuff off the machines?
20:30Irina has the nickname Mina Irina for a reason.
20:33You're supposed to get inspiration from your own look, not from mine.
20:45There's definitely pressure with only 6OS.
20:47I have one more challenge after this runway show.
20:50So, Bryan Park is getting closer and closer and that's the ultimate goal and that's kind of where my head is.
20:56So, who's finished with their look?
20:58I want to do like some shaping of the skirt.
21:01I have to magically make up a skirt and make sure it fits and tack down the straps and pick out hair and makeup.
21:09No pressure.
21:10You finished with Anna?
21:12I'm almost, but I like to tweak like Tim says.
21:16Even if I'm on the bottom too, if I'm pushing my design and pushing my point of view, that's fine.
21:21Kick your ass.
21:25You're not as a kung fu mom.
21:27You want to see me in action, girl?
21:29Let's go to FIDM.
21:32You ready?
21:33Yeah.
21:35Awesome.
21:36I still have a lot to do.
21:46I still have about a hundred petals to put on my dress and I have to finish the skirt, do the final fitting and I want to add this neck piece.
21:54When she turns around, there's going to be this finished look.
22:00Well, good morning.
22:03Panicking.
22:05You're panicking right now?
22:06No.
22:07I just feel the pressure.
22:09You should.
22:10You should too.
22:11Stop it.
22:12I know that.
22:13We all know it.
22:14Gosh, this thing takes so long.
22:21This morning, the only real problem that I'm encountering is the sweater has to be completely hand sewn and I'm running out of time.
22:29So I have to base the bottom.
22:31Sometimes you gotta just bite the bullet and do what you can.
22:34Oh no.
22:35Do you have a hook and eye?
22:37Yeah, if you want to check in my bag.
22:43Did you find it?
22:44Not yet.
22:46Irina, do you have a hook and eye?
22:48I don't know.
22:50I'm here to design, not make friends.
22:52We are at the point in the competition where, you know, helping out your fellow designer is kind of tough.
22:57When I want something, usually I get it.
22:59It's all worth it for me in the end if you reach your goal.
23:02Who's taking all this stuff off the machines?
23:06Seriously?
23:07I'm gonna kill someone.
23:09Irina has the nickname Mina Irina for a reason.
23:12I wish the judges would come down on her for something just to kind of humble her a little bit because she's kind of on a high horse at this point.
23:20Good morning, designers.
23:21Good morning.
23:22I'm about to send in your models.
23:24You will have an hour to send them to the Garnier hair studio and the L'Oreal Paris makeup room.
23:28When you're putting your final look together, use the Macy's accessory wall thoughtfully.
23:33Alright, sending in your girls.
23:35Oh, that's so cute, Carole Hannah's little dress.
23:47I'm getting kind of annoyed because I'm like, when is she not gonna do a dress?
23:50I think Carole Hannah is a really strong designer, but she's never done pants or a jacket and I'm really surprised the judges haven't labeled her a one trick pony.
24:00I like my dress.
24:03I'm happy with the design.
24:04It's just, at this point, being happy doesn't mean not nervous.
24:12Accentuate the shape of her eye.
24:14Like a smoky eye.
24:22Think Tinkerbell.
24:23Tinkerbell.
24:24Tinkerbell, the fairy.
24:25A little bit.
24:29Alright, designers.
24:30In ten minutes, you and your models and I are going to the runway.
24:34Ten minutes.
24:37I like this challenge.
24:38It's going to showcase that even though I am 44, I can still create fashion that's younger.
24:44It looks really edgy.
24:45I think that Jordana is taking this challenge a bit too literal just by using a really similar technique that she used for the wedding challenge.
24:53It reminds me of my grandma's couch.
24:55My grandma has better taste than that, actually.
24:57This is how they dressed in the olden days.
24:59Right?
25:00I've gone as far as I can with the money and the time and the challenge.
25:04I've been battered a couple of times by the judges, but I keep making it through to the next round.
25:10I'm meant to be here.
25:13I think people are getting inspired from other people's works, but I don't know how conscious it is.
25:17I was a little frustrated with Logan because of the collar, but I don't think I'm going to say anything.
25:23Althea's whining about Logan copying her collar or zipper idea.
25:27Meanwhile, she's copying my previous look, the Aspen look.
25:30Are you insane or are you drunk?
25:32You're supposed to get inspiration from your own look, not from mine.
25:37Designers and models.
25:39This is it.
25:40We are walking to the runway right now.
25:43Let's go, go, go.
25:44At this point, I have no idea if I'm in the top or bottom.
25:47They like it.
25:48They're going to love it.
25:49If they don't, I went a little too far.
25:51That's it.
25:53We're out.
25:54Coming up on Project Runway.
25:56This didn't work at all.
25:58I think it's so unflattering.
25:59Who had the first idea of these big sweater jackets?
26:02It was my original sketch.
26:04I definitely don't feel like I was influenced.
26:06I'm shocked.
26:07Hello.
26:08Hi.
26:09Welcome to the runway.
26:10As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day, you're out.
26:21There are six of you here, and after tonight, there will be five.
26:25This week, you used your own success as a starting point.
26:30We asked each of you to create a companion look that complements and enhances one of your
26:36best designs from a previous challenge.
26:39You had $100 in one day for this challenge, and I really look forward to seeing what you've
26:44done this week.
26:45All right.
26:46Let's meet the judges.
26:47First, we have instructor at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and Project Runway
26:52alumni, Nick Varios, fashion director for Marie Claire magazine, Nina Garcia, and actress,
26:59and one of the faces of L'Oreal, the ever-fashionable Kerry Washington.
27:04We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
27:10One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
27:15Let's start the show.
27:16I like my dress.
27:21I'm happy with the way that it relates back to the winning look.
27:28And I love the pockets, and I think it's really fun.
27:37I think my look does look really fashion-forward.
27:42Of course, Tanisha looks good.
27:45She always walks so good.
27:48I'm definitely feeling very confident.
27:55As Koji comes down the runway, I'm excited.
28:02I think that it's something that you don't see every day, so I think that the judges will
28:06be kind of surprised of what I did.
28:11Seeing my look come down the runway, I really love my collar and the sweater jacket.
28:16I think that is my favorite part about it.
28:24Kaylin is working my look. She looks really hot in it.
28:32I love the look that I have created.
28:34I know that maybe now we don't see that many long jackets, but we will.
28:42So I'm very confident in what I have created.
28:45The judges let us know that it's time to step it up.
28:55My designs have been stepped up the whole time.
29:00I don't feel like I did anything safe or simple.
29:03I really pushed it.
29:11There are only six of you remaining, so we're going to talk to all of you today.
29:16All right, Christopher, tell us about your look.
29:17Well, my winning look that I used to create this was the red carpet look.
29:23And I had done some textural elements.
29:25And what I did to bring that into this piece was I used some of the same petal work.
29:30Also, I did a graduated piecing to the petals where they start smaller and get larger as they go down.
29:37Nina, what do you think?
29:38I think that in terms of the proportion, this didn't work at all.
29:42It's so bottom heavy.
29:44It almost looks like she's a carnival float.
29:47There's a pretty gown in there.
29:49I think that you could have used some editing in terms of using all that stuff.
29:53I think the top part of it is really beautiful.
29:55But the bottom is a little bit you took the bed skirt with you.
29:59I don't think that the bedspreads are necessarily horrible.
30:03I just think it's two different gowns and that the worlds kind of don't blend with each other.
30:07There's nothing that unifies both dresses that are there.
30:12Irina, tell us about your look.
30:16My look has, you know, the same spirit of my Aspen look, except that it's like an evening look.
30:22It's something she'd probably wear to like dinner or cocktail party or, you know, something that's a little bit more festive.
30:30I wrote down very uptown chic.
30:32She just looked like a former Russian model who just married a millionaire.
30:38I really love this look.
30:39I could totally see my stylist yelling at me before leaving the house.
30:42You know, like, make sure you get pictures with the sweater and then take the sweater off and do pictures.
30:46It's really elegant and yet it's also cozy.
30:51It's definitely, you know, something I would make a call about if I saw on the runway.
30:55I think the top, the coat of colors, locks, the shape is, you know, brilliant.
31:03What I have a real problem with is the tight brocade dress underneath.
31:07It looks cheap.
31:08Nina's the only one today that didn't like this because I liked it too.
31:12So you have three for one today.
31:14I actually liked it.
31:15I thought for $100 in one day, you've done a great job.
31:19Jordana, tell us about your look.
31:22My original dress was edgy.
31:24So I took the inspiration of the edginess.
31:28I wanted some elegant silhouette.
31:30That's why I added some leather pieces to the jacket.
31:33So your first look was edgy.
31:35So you decided to make this look not edgy.
31:39Well, kind of edgy but with an elegant silhouette.
31:42I don't think this is fun, fashionable, beautiful at all.
31:47The same with what you've done to this beautiful girl.
31:50Her hair, she just looks old and drab and sad.
31:54It doesn't feel strong.
31:56It feels very passive to me as opposed to making a statement.
31:59It just kind of almost doesn't want to be noticed.
32:03I think between the collar and the darts and the length of that jacket,
32:10it makes the look a little dated.
32:13It looks like an office worker in Warsaw, Poland.
32:16It is not.
32:17It's a little, I mean.
32:18I mean, you had such a youthful, beautiful dress before.
32:21And then this, I'm shocked.
32:23I like it.
32:24So, I'm sorry.
32:26Carol Hanna, tell us about your look.
32:30My winning look was from the Christina Aguilera and Bob Mackie challenge.
32:35My previous piece had a lot of texture in it and I wanted to kind of play off of that.
32:39I think the simplicity makes the dress kind of delicious.
32:43And the color is really beautiful.
32:45She reminded me of like Ava Gardner.
32:48I love the lightness.
32:50You know what added to the attitude of lightness were the pockets.
32:53I really liked having the pockets.
32:55Oh, yeah.
32:56Those are great.
32:57It was really fun.
32:58Okay, Logan, tell us about your look.
33:00The look could be in the same collection, but this would be more of kind of a pow, like, wow piece.
33:06I know that it's on the brink of costume, but I think that you could still see it maybe at the VMAs with Pink wearing it or something like that.
33:15What do you think, Nina?
33:19It just looks like a, you know, fashion project from a student.
33:23Your ideas are there, but the shapes are not right.
33:26I think it's so unflattering.
33:28Looks 80s to me.
33:30It does scream a little bit Judy Jetson.
33:33Yeah, no, it has a futuristic feel.
33:36Doesn't it?
33:37That for me was a little distracting.
33:39Athea, tell us about your look.
33:41The look I was going off of was a suiting look that had a paper bag waist, and I think really overall it's similar with both looks.
33:49It's just the ease and sort of casualness of the look while still having a tailored, well-made, nice garment.
33:57I want it.
33:58I love the pants.
34:00Fabulous.
34:01I think they genius those pants.
34:03Yeah, I think the sweater's gorgeous.
34:05Yeah.
34:06I think the sweater's just gorgeous.
34:08Now, who had the first idea of these big arena or you?
34:12Were you guys looking at each other?
34:14Who has kind of like these, these big sweaters?
34:16Yeah.
34:17Well, we sketch completely different.
34:19I mean, I had, this was in my original sketch, and I'm sure hers was in her original sketch.
34:23Well, I did do the knit in my previous look.
34:26There has been a little bit of, you know, resemblance of things in the workroom.
34:31That was sort of surprising to me.
34:32Sometimes that happens though.
34:33Overall.
34:34When you're put together in a room.
34:35How do you not realize it when it's like six people in a room?
34:38Right.
34:39You know, it's not like 20.
34:40It was my original sketch.
34:41I didn't see that and then change the sweat.
34:44You know what I mean?
34:45Did you look like that?
34:46No, but I love this look.
34:47I think it is a great look.
34:48And I love the proportion.
34:49You know, this kind of big, oversized, comfortable, easy.
34:54You could totally communicate what you're going for.
34:58So I liked it.
35:00Okay.
35:01We've heard what you had to say.
35:02We're going to have a little chat, and then I'm going to call you back.
35:05You can leave the runway.
35:06All right.
35:11Let's talk about those with the higher scores.
35:13Let's start with Irina.
35:15I think everything that she designs, I can actually see people wearing her clothes.
35:19I thought it was chic.
35:20I really did think, you know, it looked like the perfect outfit for the perfect arm candy of a millionaire.
35:26She always is thinking about making it look luxe.
35:30Imagine if she had the money.
35:32You know?
35:33I think it's a beautiful look.
35:35All right.
35:36Let's move on to Althea.
35:38I thought the construction was really good.
35:40The pants were impeccable.
35:42And especially this idea of keeping the look architectural, but still having it be cozy and comfortable.
35:48The model loved it.
35:50Yeah.
35:51She felt good in it.
35:52Yeah.
35:53No, that was fabulous.
35:56Let's talk about Carol Hannah.
35:57The cocktail dress.
35:59Beautiful dress.
36:00So sweet.
36:01A very, very nice dress.
36:02And Lisa looked great modeling it.
36:04She kept it young and sexy.
36:07The pockets that made it also very young.
36:09Yeah.
36:10Love those pockets.
36:11The work that she did with the Charmous and the chiffon was very well done and very refined, very quiet, very elegant.
36:19Very beautiful.
36:20Really beautiful.
36:21We could all wear that dress.
36:22Oh my gosh.
36:23Yes, we could all wear that dress.
36:24We could all wear it.
36:26Let's talk about those designers with the lower scores.
36:29Let's talk about Logan.
36:31Oh.
36:32So, Space Odyssey 2001.
36:35It was like an outfit for a music video back in the 80s.
36:38But not even for the lead person.
36:40The background.
36:41Yeah.
36:42It just was strange.
36:43To me it was like, you know those lizards that when they're trying to scare people, their necks come out.
36:47Yeah, yeah, yeah.
36:48Like an indulgent fashion student project.
36:50Yeah.
36:51It just didn't.
36:52Yeah.
36:53Last week I've told him, turn up the volume.
36:55Who are you?
36:56And now he's like, I'm about zippers.
36:58Like 50 in one outfit.
37:00Hard wear hair.
37:01He took that advice to literally.
37:03I know.
37:07Alright, let's talk about Jordana.
37:09She wanted to do edgy and elegant.
37:11And she couldn't really deliver on that.
37:14That was like the saddest drab, most drab thing.
37:18And maybe it's like a personal thing.
37:20I mean I was like, okay, the 80s are back.
37:22You do it.
37:25Let's talk about Christopher.
37:27I've wanted to like this dress.
37:28Who worked really hard on making a thousand petals.
37:30I know.
37:31I wanted to really like this dress because I liked two thirds of it.
37:36But the bottom was heavy.
37:38There's like children hiding underneath.
37:40Terrible.
37:41Terrible.
37:42Big thing coming out.
37:44I was like, what is going on?
37:46The way it hangs, it does not look expensive.
37:48It does look like a bed skirt.
37:50It hangs just like that.
37:51He put the bed skirt around three times and that's it.
37:53I think this was one of our toughest decisions, right?
38:03But we did it.
38:04Okay, let's bring them back out.
38:06One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
38:18One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
38:27Carol Hannah, you're in.
38:28You can leave the runway.
38:30Althea, you are the winner of this challenge.
38:32We all wanted to walk away with your outfit, but it's mine.
38:33I will be happy to make each and every one of you your own version.
38:52Oh, thank you.
38:54Good job.
38:55Congratulations.
38:56You can leave the runway.
38:58Congrats.
38:59Thank you all very much.
39:00I'm not really exactly sure what Irina was accusing me of copying, but to accuse someone
39:07of something on the runway in front of judges and really important people, I feel like it's
39:12not an issue of stress.
39:14It's an issue of character.
39:15Do you win?
39:16Yes.
39:17You know, that's all right because I still won.
39:21Even though no one wanted me to.
39:23I'm happy.
39:24Irina, you're in.
39:28You can leave the runway.
39:30Christopher.
39:31You're in.
39:32You can leave the runway.
39:36Christopher, you're in.
39:37You can leave the runway.
39:40Logan.
39:41Jordana.
39:42leave the runway. Logan, Jordana, one of you will be out. Jordana, the suit had nothing
40:00to do with your previous look. This outfit was sad, drab, and dated. Logan, your look
40:09was too tricked out. Yes, we did tell you to turn up the volume, but this was like a bunch
40:15of zippers exploded on your dress. You really needed to edit. Jordana, you're in.
40:29Thank you very much.
40:39I'm surprised that I'm going home for taking a risk and for showing them something that's
40:46innovative and kind of out there. I'm definitely not a designer that's for, you know, middle
40:54America or 90% of the population. So I think that, you know, the people that see what I
41:01put down the runway, they'll get it. If they don't, then they don't. And, you know, I'm
41:07not trying to please everyone. You're a great designer. We're going to hear more from you.
41:11Yes, you will. Good. Thank you, guys. Thanks, Logan. This whole thing has just been so crazy.
41:18I'm looking forward to the future and I'm looking forward to the next step and the opportunities
41:22that I know are coming my way. This is a great designer. I'm looking forward to the future
41:27and I'm looking forward to the next step and the opportunities that I know are coming my way.
41:34This isn't the end for me. It's really the beginning. Next time on Project Runway. Fashion week is at your fingertips.
41:51It's your last challenge. It's costing me my life. Althea is sort of like King Kong. She wants to grab everything.
41:58I think she's just out for blood. Oh, yeah. It's looking a lot like roadkill. They look like stalactites.
42:04They're going to be edged in... Christopher, what? Oh, my God. It's a bit of a mess fest. Not so great from the back.
42:11I'm a bit shocked to see this from you today. Are you confident in this as your final challenge look?
42:21Visit mylifetime.com to learn more about the fashion you've seen on tonight's show.
42:25We'll see you next time.
