00:18Emilio, your dress was our favorite
00:20You're in, you're going to Bryan Park
00:22Seth Aaron, we appreciate that you're willing to push yourself
00:25You're in, you're going to Fashion Week
00:27Anthony, you still need to mature as a designer
00:30You're out
00:32Mila, Jay, you're also in
00:35But only one of you will show at Fashion Week
00:38This is Project Runway
00:40The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine
00:44An opportunity to sell their line on bluefly.com
00:47A $50,000 technology suite to create, design and run their business from HP and Intel
00:52And $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to launch their line
00:57Congratulations, you're going to Fashion Week
01:08Woohoo!
01:15I'm giving each of you $9,000 in the next 4 months to create a 10-piece collection to show at Fashion Week
01:23Mila and Jay, you both will be designing collections
01:28But only one of you will be showing at Fashion Week
01:31We want to see more from you before we make our final decision
01:35When we return to New York, you will choose three looks from your collection to be judged
01:41One of you will show at the tents, and one of you will be out
01:45Now let's bring out someone that you all have grown very close to
01:50It's a little old me
01:52Hi!
01:53Hi!
01:54Designers, I just want to tell you how extraordinarily, exceptionally proud I am of each of you
02:03Look where you are!
02:05And I also want to tell you that before you know it
02:08I'm going to be paying each of you a visit to check in on the progress of your collection
02:13Alright
02:14Good luck, and I can't wait to see you at Fashion Week
02:17Thank you
02:25Jay and I both have really strong points of view, I think, that generally speaking come across in what we do
02:30But, um, mine's better
02:32I have to make sure that I beat Jay
02:37To be in the top four, it's mind-boggling that I'm here
02:44I know that I could beat Mila and win this competition
02:48You're going down at Bryan Park, bitches!
02:51The first day I came here, I know what I'm doing for Bryan Park
02:56It's going to be another showstopper
02:59Don't forget your purse
03:01I definitely am going to stay to my aesthetic and it's definitely going to be not boring
03:06Do I think I can win Fashion Week?
03:09The f***ing day I can
03:10This is it
03:11I'm Mila
03:12Bye
03:13Bye
03:14Bye
03:15Bye guys
03:16Bye
03:17We'll see you at Fashion Week
03:29I'm off to check in on the collections of our final four designers
03:32First up is Seth Aaron Henderson in Vancouver, Washington
03:37Surprise!
03:38Ah, Tim!
03:39How are you?
03:40I'm great, how are you doing?
03:41Tim's here
03:42I'm really anxious to get started
03:43Here it is
03:44Are these all new pieces for the collection?
03:47Yes, I did a total of 15 already
03:49My God, I'm marvelling at the sheer volume
03:52My goal is to take at least 20 outfits with me in New York and edit there
03:56I've never seen anything like this in Project Runway history
03:59I don't just want to win, I want to stomp the competition
04:03I kind of like the look of some skin showing but really covered
04:08That's beautiful
04:09This is my long coat belt
04:11It doesn't have to be on there because it does fully snap
04:14This is one of the first pieces I did
04:17I love this coat
04:19Those are pockets
04:20This underneath
04:22I think it's a great piece
04:24This dress
04:25A sweater
04:26Can I say something?
04:28Yeah
04:30You could show all this at Bryan Park
04:32It will look beautiful
04:34It will look cohesive
04:36People who don't know your work will be on their feet
04:39But you're not going to win
04:42We've had so many designers show at Bryan Park who've had fabulous collections
04:48But it didn't surprise the judges
04:50It was the work that they were doing for the challenges
04:53And I see the zipper details for instance
04:55And I know that's a signature of yours
04:57But if you want to win this
05:00You've got to stretch
05:02You've got to reach beyond what we already have seen from you
05:05There's no surprise here
05:07This is classic Seth Aaron
05:11Should I show some of that in my collection though?
05:14I mean from where I stand
05:16I'd like you to reconceptualize the whole thing
05:21Between now and Bryan Park
05:23I would expect most of this to go away
05:28Wow
05:29I wasn't expecting a complete start over
05:31You just have to find another level of you
05:35Half my money's gone
05:36More than half my time's gone
05:38So that something new and unexpected emerges
05:41Yet we still know it's Seth Aaron
05:44I know you are capable of this
05:46Which is why I'm pushing you
05:48Alright
05:51So you'll do it
05:52Thank you
05:55Cool
05:56Well my wife and kids are dying to meet you
05:58You still want me to meet them?
06:00Yeah
06:01After all this
06:02I've been going like
06:03A thousand and one miles an hour
06:05But maybe I need to wipe the slate clean
06:08Chill out and just really think
06:11And start over
06:13So Megan and Aaron
06:14Your dad's going to Bryan Park
06:15And you're going with him
06:16How do you feel about it?
06:17Excited
06:19I told all the kids where I have to go to counseling
06:21To know how to deal with this
06:23Tina how did the two of you meet?
06:25He was the boy next door
06:26Is that right?
06:27Yeah
06:28Being away from my family is the most difficult thing I've ever done
06:32I did it for them as well as me
06:34Ready?
06:35Go!
06:36Our goal now is to get to LA
06:37Eyeglasses
06:38Draw, draw, draw
06:39Balloons
06:40Fallopian tube
06:42Winning this would definitely allow me to pack up and create a better life
06:47Tethoscope
06:49Now I see it
06:51Well that was fun
06:53I got something special in mind for you
06:55You do? What is it?
06:57Pop a gun's on the tramp
06:59The hundersons are trying to kill me
07:01Dude!
07:02I did it
07:03Yeah
07:05I got Tim to jump on our trampoline
07:07And to see him interact with my kids
07:09Man it's just awesome
07:11Alright parting words for you
07:13I want you to think hard
07:15I want you to reflect
07:16Slow and steady wins the race
07:18Damn
07:19Take care, work hard
07:20I gotta get to work
07:21Bye
07:22Bye
07:24Whew
07:27Next I'm visiting Emilia Sosa in New York City
07:33It's amazing isn't it?
07:34It is amazing
07:35A lot of people don't ever get to see it from this angle
07:38I'm looking forward to Tim meeting my brothers
07:40Because the most important thing in my life is my family
07:42Nicholas
07:43Hey Nick
07:44Nice to meet you
07:45Hi Felipe
07:46Nice to meet you too
07:47So how are you feeling about your brother and his achievements?
07:50I'm proud of him
07:51You know he
07:52How proud?
07:53Very proud
07:54Trust me Tim when I tell you Emilia has the hardest worker that I've known
07:57We learned our work ethic came from our parents
07:59My dad came from Dominican Republic with only one relative in New York
08:04My father was a janitor
08:06My mother worked in a factory for 30 years
08:08So my brothers and I could have a better future
08:11We grew up in the south broad throughout the 70s and 80s
08:14Tim it wasn't easy
08:18My environment was a very urban lower income tough neighborhood
08:23But I saw beauty in the ruins
08:26I saw a graffiti bright brash color
08:29The birth of hip hop was in my neighborhood
08:32And that would always be ingrained in my aesthetic
08:37Bye gentlemen thank you so much
08:38It's fighting against the odds to create what you want to create
08:43Well Emilio you have a lot of work done
08:45I've been working hard I'm halfway there
08:47I was inspired by color
08:48I can see that
08:49That's the way I start
08:51It's refreshing
08:52You know what I believe people think full of the line
08:55You see a lot of black, a lot of gray
08:58I'm thinking of turquoise with red
09:01And I fell in love with this odd
09:04I don't know what color to call it
09:08Is the whole collection a nod to the 40s?
09:10A touch, a touch
09:12But then the color brings it to a whole nother level
09:16I created a print
09:18It's a camouflage with my initials, my name
09:22This is what the print looks like now
09:27For the first time I think Tim Gunn is actually speechless
09:30I call it spray painted brocade
09:33The epaulettes, little side zippers
09:36It gets lost in this fabric
09:37I'm not designing a line for the cameras
09:40I'm designing a line for my client
09:42Let me put it this way
09:43The judges are going to watch these looks walk that runway
09:46That's going to be their experience with your collection
09:49And that experience is going to determine whether or not you win this
09:53I made a very strong showing throughout the season
09:58Indeed you did
09:59And they understand that
10:00But you cannot go into this thinking that that's going to
10:04I'm not going into it
10:05But I'm not going to go into it like
10:06Oh I'm not going to do a detail that I want in a jacket
10:08Look here's my point
10:10Here's my point
10:11What is your point?
10:12My point is you don't have a lot of time left
10:13Right
10:14You still have a lot of work to do
10:15Right
10:16And I'm saying I don't know that this is worth your time
10:18That's all
10:19You do whatever you want to do
10:20You just do it
10:21Okay
10:22I'm creating a collection for women
10:25And as far as I know Tim doesn't wear women's clothing
10:28I see a serious absence of sophistication in this work
10:32And I see clothes that look frankly old
10:37Okay
10:38It's going to have my name on it
10:39It's not going to have Tim Gunn's name on it
10:41I see the big picture in my head
10:43Alright
10:44Do it
10:45Thank you sir
10:46But I'm confident that when it's done
10:48This collection is going to blow everyone's socks off
10:51Yeah
10:52I'm exhausted
10:53No get out
10:54Go
10:55I'll see you in Bryant Park
11:05Next I'm visiting Mila Hermanofsky in rainy Los Angeles
11:09Hello
11:11Hello Tim
11:12How are you?
11:13I'm really excited to show Tim my designs
11:16One and other
11:17Thank you
11:18At this point I'm not focusing on the three looks that I will be showing the judges
11:23This is Ziggy
11:24Hi Ziggy
11:25I'm just going to build all ten looks and I'm just going to pull them from there
11:28I started off with this concept of shadows
11:31It is all about shadows
11:33It is all about shadows
11:34Shadows can be very graphic or they can be soft and they can be evocative even sinister
11:40So are you sticking to black and white in the collection?
11:43There is black and white but there's also
11:45Of course there is
11:46Of course
11:47What my intent is is to introduce this aubergine color
11:51I'm just being perfectly one about it's a black and white collection with a few spots of color
11:55However, it's you
11:58I know that I'm taking a risk by not showing very much color
12:03Yeah, beautiful
12:04Beautiful
12:05But I'm completely committed to it
12:07This was the struggle design, you know, that I fell in love with the fabric
12:12It fits really nicely but I feel like it's sort of a conservative fit
12:17Can I tell you what struck me when I first looked at these?
12:20Mm-hmm
12:21Just that word
12:22Conservative
12:23Even going a little matronly
12:26Dude, what?
12:27I mean, matronly?
12:29No, no, no, no, no, no
12:30Look how chic and fabulous you are
12:32And that's what these need to exude
12:34My design aesthetic is not as in your face as some of the others
12:39This was going to be black patent leather
12:41I love the patent leather
12:42Oh good
12:43I love it
12:44But as long as I own it
12:45I can see people wearing this
12:46And I'm ready to defend it
12:48It's beautiful
12:49You know, I can't go wrong
12:50That first day in New York
12:52You're standing up basically against Jay
12:55Mm-hmm
12:56How do you feel about that?
12:57Where my head is at is I'm going to Bryant Park
13:00Right
13:01I don't want to lose to that little
13:04I mean, he's...
13:07I don't know, I think I'm a better designer
13:09And I just think that he's really annoying
13:12And he can't win, no way
13:15Guess who's here?
13:16Hi
13:17Hi
13:18This is my dad, Del
13:19Hi Del
13:20And this is my mom, Carol
13:21Hi Carol, nice to meet you
13:22The support that my parents and my boyfriend, Matthew, are giving me
13:25It really makes me feel special
13:27So I have to ask your mother and your father
13:30We're sitting in a black and white house
13:32Black clad, Mila and Matthew
13:36Our adorable Ziggy, black and white
13:38Was Mila always like this?
13:39It shows up early on
13:41I mean, she was always dressed to the nines, as I recall, you know
13:46And then she was in her goth period, I call it
13:49Oh, goodness
13:50When she was all black
13:51Oh, all black
13:52But I always thought, Mila needs to be the designer
13:56Even though I have been a costumer in TV and film for the last 12 years, I never gave up this dream
14:03When I started off my career in fashion, I felt like when I have my own line, which I will one day
14:09It will be when I feel like it's time and I'm ready
14:12I've been given a second shot at living my dream of being a fashion designer
14:17But to see her get back into the creative process and actually making things
14:22You know, I saw a wonderful sparkle in her eye, it was wonderful
14:26I'm this close to that opportunity, I'm so close I can taste it
14:29Well, I cannot wait to see you in New York
14:31I have one shot and it's do or die
14:34Take care
14:35Thank you, Tim
14:36Bye
14:47Finally, I'm visiting J. Nick Losorio in San Francisco
14:51Hey! How are you?
14:54So great to see you
14:56Great to see you too
14:57So talk to me
14:59My inspiration is the Japanese samurai
15:01I love the colors, the texture and things that are kind of like sticking out of the costume
15:07I love the juxtaposition of the samurai and the geisha
15:10I like to combine soft and hard things together
15:13So the color, it creates that, you know, additional softness
15:16Once you build up the volume and the collar, does everything else disappear?
15:20It might, I think the most interesting part is the skirt
15:22I mean, I do too
15:23I've seen
15:24This is where you want the eye to go
15:25Yes, I get that
15:26Moving on to this piece, I wanted to make an auto wear that's very dramatic
15:32Where is this person going?
15:37Nowhere
15:38Shouldn't that big dramatic statement also be able to walk the red carpet?
15:42I mean, shouldn't Heidi be able to say, I want that for the Oscars?
15:47Alright, what's next?
15:49So my kimono jacket
15:51This is wool and alpaca
15:55Well, let me, let's just talk about the bodice aspect
15:58I think it's a knockout
16:01I love everything about it
16:03I love this wrap
16:04I love the color
16:05I love the fabric
16:06Now
16:07Oh my god
16:09What is this?
16:10What is this?
16:11The sleeve
16:13When it gets gimmicky like that, I fear it gets too much like student work
16:19When Tim says student work, I want to vomit
16:23I don't want my collection to look worse
16:25I don't want my collection to look like I've tried so hard to create drama
16:30You and Mila are going up against each other
16:33We are
16:34With those three looks
16:35I'm not worried about that part
16:36You aren't?
16:37Why not?
16:38I feel like I have the ball on my side
16:41I don't have to worry about Mila
16:44I already know I'm going to beat her, so it's fine
16:47I love the vest, but it's a matter of what you show it with
16:50But I still have to go and compete with Seth and Emilio
16:53And I sort of have to go back and redo some of these pieces
16:58We're running out of time
17:00There's so many wonderful things happening in there
17:01And then it just goes a little cuckoo
17:04It's cuckoo Chanel, girl
17:09My parents are here
17:10Oh, wonderful
17:11And my aunt and my partner Rolando
17:12I can't wait to meet your family
17:14They're cooking right now
17:15This is my place
17:17Jay, you take these steps so spryly
17:20Hi, Mom
17:21Hi, Rolando
17:22Hi, Tim
17:23Me too
17:24Hey, how are you?
17:25Nice to meet you
17:26Nice to meet you, Rolando
17:27Thank you
17:28Hi
17:29How are you?
17:30Oh, I'm fine
17:31I only see you on TV
17:33You know, these are the people that are very supportive of what I do
17:37My aunt Perez
17:38Hi, Tim
17:39Welcome to San Francisco
17:40I'm thrilled to be here
17:41And my dad
17:42Hello
17:43My dad, he has no idea what Fashion Week is
17:45But I know that he's really proud of me
17:47I can sew dresses to impact
17:49And she taught me how
17:52When I was a kid growing up in the Philippines
17:55My parents had to work two jobs
17:58In order for me to be able to finish school
18:00Your first time to eat Filipino?
18:01Yes
18:02Delicious, thank you so much
18:04I felt guilty that I'm making them work so hard
18:08Just so that I could fulfill my dream
18:11Your perseverance, your courage, and determination
18:15I've molded you to an amazing fashion designer
18:19I'll pray for you
18:21So your dreams will come true
18:23Thanks, Mama
18:24If I win Project Runway
18:27It's not just my life that's gonna change
18:30I just wanna be able to pay my...
18:33You know, my parents back
18:34Because they've worked so hard
18:36Their whole entire life
18:38I just wanna give them the things
18:40That they've never had in life
18:41This is cool
18:42Jay
18:43If you can dream it, you can do it
18:45To Jay
18:46To Jay
18:47Woo!
18:48To Jay
18:49To Jay
18:50It feels amazing to be back in New York
19:02I'm going up against Jay for the third seat
19:05In the finalists that get to show at Bryant Park
19:08My adrenaline is going
19:10I wanna show my entire collection
19:11I don't just wanna show three pieces
19:13I'm the first one here
19:16Wow
19:17Oh my god, it's beautiful
19:19I've never been in anything close to this kind of place
19:23I feel really lucky that we're staying here
19:24I guess this is what it's like at the top
19:26I'm really happy to be back in New York City
19:31But I still have to fight for this third spot against Mila
19:36But I think the judges are gonna gravitate more
19:39To what I'm gonna show to them
19:41Because I'm current
19:43I'm innovative
19:44I'm everything that a new fashion designer wants to be
19:48Who is it?
19:50Jay
19:51Jay and I didn't have much of a relationship for the majority of the season
19:56How's it going?
19:57Good, how are you?
19:58I can sense immediately that he's feeling awkward
20:01Are we gonna be roommates?
20:03Um, wow, I guess so
20:05It's so weird talking to you
20:15Why?
20:16I don't know, like we never really talked
20:18Like even when we partnered together
20:20Like we never talked
20:22Before coming to New York
20:23I've been thinking how am I gonna approach Mila
20:25How am I gonna talk to her when I see her?
20:27I know I'm a little hard on the outside before I get to know people
20:31I don't know about you but like when you're under such intense pressure
20:35You're in the moment
20:36You're in the moment and I get
20:37I mean everybody reacts differently
20:39And everybody has their own like defense mechanisms
20:41And you know
20:42Yeah, it's nice to see the side of you
20:44To be honest with you
20:45Thanks
20:46I'm really not such a bad guy
20:48It's crazy having this conversation with you
20:52Are you surprised?
20:53It's a little intense
20:54It's nice
20:55It is
20:56It's nice, it's sort of cathartic
20:59She's still in my competition at the end of the day
21:01I still have to be competitive
21:02So I need to rise above the drama that we went through
21:06In order for me to survive this and win this
21:12Hello
21:13What's up?
21:15I'm ready for Bryant Park
21:16How's it going?
21:18I listened to what Tim said
21:19I'm really confident in my collection
21:21It's definitely something they haven't seen for me
21:23But at the same time they're going to know exactly whose it is
21:27Is this what they call the heaven?
21:29Right?
21:30The heavenly bed
21:31It looks heavenly to me
21:32Yeah
21:33I wonder where Emilio is
21:34Hi Emilio!
21:36Surprise!
21:37Yeah!
21:38Were you guys hiding from me?
21:41What came out of that home visit with Tim
21:44Was not to make the collection too old
21:46The collection that Tim will see at Bryant Park
21:49Is not the collection that he saw hanging on the rack
21:52Look!
21:53You look slimmer!
21:54What happened?
21:55I told him
21:56He lost two pounds
21:57Bitch, what you do?
21:58You're okay?
21:59I didn't do anything
22:00I got my normal set up
22:01Wow!
22:02I can hear
22:03Mila!
22:04Sam!
22:05How are you?
22:06Good!
22:07Great to see you
22:08To give you a fashion kiss
22:09Fashion kiss
22:10How are you Seth Aaron?
22:11Jay?
22:12Sam!
22:13Co-excited for that
22:15Co-excited for that
22:17Co-excited for that
22:18Co-excited for that
22:19Emilio, how are you?
22:20Good to see you
22:21Good to see you
22:22Well, I am thrilled
22:24Thrilled, thrilled, thrilled
22:25To be with all of you
22:26And how exciting is this?
22:27I want to officially welcome you
22:29To the Westin, New York
22:31At Times Square
22:32And the Presidential Suite
22:34How fabulous is this?
22:35Is this not incredible?
22:36Amazing
22:37And you're about two blocks from Bryant Park
22:39Where Emilio and Seth Aaron
22:41We know you're going to be showing
22:42And Mila and Jay
22:44You're going to be battling it out
22:49And as you probably deduced
22:51Tomorrow morning
22:52You're going to be in the work room
22:53So enjoy tonight
22:55And enjoy your Westin heavenly bed
22:58Because it may be the only night
22:59You're in it
23:00And keep in mind too
23:02Only three of you
23:03Are going to be in the suite
23:04All week
23:05All right
23:06Let's pop a bottle of champagne
23:09And have a toast
23:10To all four of you
23:11All right
23:12There
23:13May the best designer win
23:17Project Runway
23:19One more time
23:20I can't wait to hit the work room tomorrow
23:23I am so close
23:24To my dream
23:26This would be something so fantastic
23:29That would change my life
23:39Ladies first
23:40Wow
23:41Wow
23:42This is a work room
23:43There's only three spaces
23:44You just got paint
23:45Oh you guys got to fight it out
23:46We're sharing a table for God's sake
23:47Wow there's not a whole lot of space here
23:48It's frustrating
23:49This is going to be a tight space
23:50Yes it is
23:51Good thing we're talking to each other now
23:52Right?
23:53Oh look it's Tim
23:54Good morning designers
23:55Good morning Tim
23:56Hey Tim
23:57Welcome to the Blue Fly workspace
23:58In the 1407 Broadway building
23:59Just to recap
24:00Seth Aaron and Emilio
24:01You are moving forward to Fashion Week
24:02And Mila and Jay
24:03The two of you will be competing for a space at New York Fashion Week
24:06And you will be presenting your three strongest looks to the judges who will determine which one of you will move forward
24:13And the judges decision will be made today
24:15Wow
24:16Wow
24:17Whoa
24:18What the
24:19Are you kidding me?
24:20I had no idea it was going to be like bam straight away this morning first thing
24:23So for the two of you this is a runway day
24:25So for the two of you this is a runway day
24:27And the two of you will be competing for a space at New York Fashion Week
24:30And you will be presenting your three strongest looks to the judges who will determine which one of you will move forward
24:31And the judges decision will be made today
24:33Wow
24:34Wow
24:35Whoa
24:36What the
24:37Are you kidding me?
24:38I had no idea it was going to be like bam straight away this morning first thing
24:43So for the two of you this is a runway day
24:46You will have three hours to fit your models and send them to hair and makeup
24:50And get ready for your presentation
24:53Wow
24:54I'm going to be sending in your muse models very shortly
24:56And your two other models for your two other looks have been pre-assigned to you
25:00So go go go
25:02Oh my god this looks crazy
25:04It's crazy I mean three hours to go through fittings when I've really not seen my clothes on people before
25:12I'm going to die
25:14I'm going to die
25:15I'm going to die
25:16I'm going to die
25:17We're showing today
25:18I'm like shaking
25:19I'm so nervous now
25:20So undress
25:21Let's try some stuff on you
25:23Jay Jay
25:25Oh
25:26Hey your name is
25:27Serena
25:28What I'm concerned about is the center of the centering of the band
25:34What is this?
25:37The shin guards won't zip all the way up Britney's legs
25:40This is a key piece that I want to show the judges
25:43It's the only accessory I've designed for the collection
25:47I see Jay's looks kind of out of the corner of my eye
25:51And he's got color
25:53Okay
25:54Not good for me
25:55Mila and Jay I'm sending you and your models to the L'Oreal Paris makeup room in the Garnier hair salon
26:02And when you return from hair and makeup you'll be prepping your models for the runway
26:07So use the bluefly.com wall very thoughtfully
26:11I want to do a pull back and then maybe just pull really clean and then pull it all the way here
26:19And then I want to braid it
26:22I want it as clean and polished as possible
26:24Perfect
26:25Because I'm feeling insecure about the lack of color in my three looks
26:30I decide that I'm going to show some color in the models faces and through the makeup
26:36I would love if you could do like a smoky strong aubergine eye
26:41Aubergine colors really gonna blend beautiful with the cheek
26:45Oh that's beautiful yeah
26:46Let the games begin
26:47Exactly
26:48Designers and models and Mila and Jay specifically
26:52In five minutes we're going down to the runway
26:55I'll be back thank you
26:57This is it we're getting our outfits on
27:00I get chills when I think about the fact that
27:03I am this close to being at Bryant Park
27:06This is this was a dream of mine almost 20 years ago
27:10That's your little bitchy bolero
27:13Designers and models this is it
27:16We're going down to the runway
27:18For me to not be able to make it through this round
27:21I would be so devastated because it's
27:24I've worked so hard for it
27:26I've had dreams about this collection walking the runway at Bryant Park
27:32I can't imagine not going forward
27:35Here we go
27:45Hello
27:46Hi
27:47Jay, Mila, welcome back to New York and welcome back to the runway
27:50Thank you
27:51The two of you are here to compete for the final spot at Fashion Week
27:55We asked you to choose the three strongest looks from your collections for us to judge
28:00Today we will determine which one of you will be out and which one of you will go to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week
28:06Alright let's say hello to the judges
28:08Top American designer Michael Kors
28:10Hey guys
28:11Hi
28:12And fashion director for Marie Claire Magazine
28:14Nina Garcia
28:15Hello
28:16Hi
28:17Hi Nina
28:18Both of you are very talented otherwise you would not be sitting here
28:20We really believe in you and we hope that you blow us away today
28:24Alright let's start the show
28:25Let's start the show
28:34My collection, it's very much my point of view that the judges have seen
28:38But there's also a few surprises thrown in there
28:39There's the Mila that we know and love and there's something that we didn't expect from her
28:40There's the Mila that we know and love and there's something that we didn't expect from her
29:05There's an innovation factor too in my collection, every single piece is editorial exciting, they're just so fresh, they're just so new
29:26Fashion designers, they need to move things forward, not backwards and I have what it takes to do that
29:46Jay, Mila, one of you will be showing at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week
30:03And one of you will be out
30:06Let's bring out your models
30:08Mila
30:13My inspiration is the shadow, mysterious and the shapes that shadows create, light and dark patterns
30:20And this is what I came up with
30:22I actually like those three pieces, it definitely shows your design
30:27They're all different but still they're cohesive
30:29I would want to wear all of these pieces because they're all simple but with a little twist
30:34When she walked out I'm like not only is the look very Mila, she's kind of made up to look very Mila
30:41It's got a very 60s vibe to it and I like that, I know they're your clothes
30:47But the toughest thing in the world is when you have a look, which is great, but at the same time there has to be a surprise
30:54That's a tricky thing
30:56To get it to look less retro, I think the girls need to look a little rougher
31:03Their hair and makeup could look edgier and I think you have to think about how a modern girl wants to get dressed
31:09That's really important, but the construction on the clothes looks fantastic
31:15I love that you thought about separates, that's very smart
31:18But I'd love to see you push a little more on the modern side
31:23I'm not surprised to see black and white because I know that you use a lot of black and white
31:28But I wonder what would happen when you would have to do six collections a year
31:34How are you going to make so many collections with that just very narrow point of view?
31:40I do want you to know that there is a little bit of color in my 10 look collection
31:44All right
31:45Did you make those gloves?
31:46I designed them and I had them made
31:48They're great
31:49Thank you
31:50I think the gloves are a styling thing that actually does have some bite and some edge
31:55And makes them look a little bit more modern
31:57I had the rings made too, out of steel
32:00The jewelry is fantastic
32:01Yeah, great
32:02The cowl neck, is that part of the coat?
32:07It's an accessory that I made
32:08It looks great, I even like it better without
32:11The statement is very you and congratulations
32:14Jay
32:16The Japanese samurai became my inspiration
32:18But I wanted to feminize it instead of creating all these kind of like masculine details
32:22I have to say you really pumped up the volume this time
32:25Thank you, that's what I wanted to do
32:27I think this black trouser she's wearing is fabulous
32:30I love the dress
32:31I think there's a lot of work in these clothes
32:33I love all the pleating, the seaming
32:36I love these gaiters that she has on
32:39Can I see the side?
32:40They're great
32:41I love that the gaiters and the pants pull it together
32:44Smart move
32:45Thank you
32:46I think Jay, you always have excellent tailoring
32:50It is great that you are innovative
32:53You have a great pant there
32:55But then you have that silver shirt
32:58And then you have that weird thing here
33:01It's a lot
33:02And at the end of the day you want it to be elegant
33:05You want one standout piece
33:08You don't need a whole bunch of standout pieces
33:10Because that's only going to compete
33:12My favorite look is this look
33:15Because it's the cleanest
33:17Yes, you've decorated it and it's tailored
33:19But it's clean
33:20You've got to edit down
33:22Yes
33:23I have to say I like what you did
33:24You really designed and you thought about it
33:27I love this dress
33:29You know I love short dresses
33:30You'd wear that dress in a heartbeat
33:32For sure
33:33I love these chin garters
33:35They should be up to here
33:36And then they should be attached to the garter belt
33:38Only if you're Heidi Klum
33:39I'm not 100% sure how cohesive it is
33:43Because there's a lot of different fabrics
33:45And a lot of different design ideas happening at the same time
33:48You know the other thing that I have to say that I admire
33:52There's nothing about these clothes that's retro at all
33:57Zero
33:59These are not clothes that could have happened in any other time
34:03And what happened with the gloves?
34:04Did you guys call each other on the gloves?
34:06You said let's do gloves?
34:07We didn't really talk before this by the way
34:10At all even throughout the challenges
34:12And we managed to sort of get rid of the drama
34:15And focus on what's important
34:17So you hated each other for the whole process
34:19And now you're dear friends
34:20And now you're standing here
34:21Now we're sharing a room
34:24Hey, welcome to the fashion world
34:26And now you're fighting for the last spot
34:27Yes
34:28At Mercedes Benz Fashion Week
34:30How lovely
34:31I think that you two made it really hard for us to judge today
34:35Very, both of you
34:37These clothes are made beautifully
34:41All right, we're going to have a little chat
34:43And then I'm going to bring you back
34:45You can leave the runway
34:46Thank you
34:47Thank you guys
34:48I would love to know from everyone now
34:56Who do you want to see at New York Fashion Week?
35:00Jay
35:01I think Mila
35:02I'm on the fence
35:04Both Mila and Jay have something to say as designers
35:10When I look at Mila
35:12The clothes that she showed us today were beautifully constructed
35:15Well designed, beautifully made
35:18But it's straightforwardly retro
35:21And it's not even a question of the black and white
35:24But can she really
35:26Surprise you?
35:28Yes, surprises
35:29I don't think it's necessarily wrong to do 60s retro
35:32If you have your own twist to it, which she does
35:34I do have to say Jake, he had some spot on pieces
35:41He had some really fabulous ideas in there
35:44Yes
35:45That dress was perfect
35:47The leather gaiters that were worn with the jacket
35:49They're fantastic
35:50I have to say my least favorite was the jacket that Brittany was wearing
35:53Yes
35:54I mean that was overworked
35:55Kill the jacket altogether
35:56Kill the jacket altogether
35:57Kill the jacket altogether
35:58Throw it out
35:59Well there's a fabulous Yiddish word called ungepatschki
36:03Ungapatschki
36:04Ungapatschki
36:05Ungapatschki
36:06It means it's like too much, overly decorated
36:08Ungapatschki
36:09Ungapatschki
36:10For sure
36:12I'm worried that Jay will look over designed
36:15And I think that Mila will be classy to the point
36:19There's one thing though that you have to remember
36:21It's better to start with too much and reduce and edit
36:27But we're not starting, we're at the end
36:29Edit it down
36:30This is the slot
36:31You going to New York Fashion Week or you're not going to New York Fashion Week
36:33Seriously?
36:34If you took those black pants
36:36You're redesigning right now
36:37Well that's what designers do
36:39I'm changing it until 10 minutes before
36:41I know but he's supposed to be the designer
36:42He is supposed to be the designer
36:44Do not redesign
36:45Oh I don't know
36:47It's a tough one guys
36:48Because this is really about curiosity
36:51Are we curious to see more?
36:53Do they have more to say?
36:55I think I might be turning around
37:01So have we made our decision?
37:06Yes
37:07Yeah
37:08Alright let's bring them back out
37:10Mila
37:19Jay
37:21One of you will be showing at Fashion Week
37:24And one of you
37:26Will be out
37:28Mila
37:29Both of you have done a really great job
37:33And this was a really tough decision
37:35You both can be very proud
37:37Mila
37:38The looks that you showed us
37:39Will be out
37:40Mila
37:41The looks that you showed us
37:42Will be out
37:43Mila
37:44The looks that you showed us
37:45Will be out
37:46Mila
37:47The looks that you showed us
37:48Will be out
37:49They also showed us
37:50Your very distinct point of view as a designer
37:51While we were impressed
37:52We're a little bit worried that your line might be one note and two retro
37:56The looks that you showed us were impeccable.
37:59They also showed us your very distinct point of view as a designer.
38:03While we were impressed, we were a little bit worried that your line might be one note and too retro.
38:10Jay, you had some very intriguing and fashion-forward ideas,
38:16which showed us that you're very innovative.
38:19But your work seemed over-designed. You just tried to do maybe too much.
38:25The final question that we had to ask ourselves was,
38:28which one of you is more ready to show at Bryan Park this week?
38:32Who do we want to see more of?
38:37Mila?
38:45Congratulations. You're going to Fashion Week.
38:50Oh, my God. Thank you so much.
38:52Oh, thank you so, so much.
38:57This means the world to me.
39:00I'm sorry, Jay. That means you're out.
39:02Thank you guys so much.
39:12It means a lot to me, the feedback you guys gave me.
39:15I'll take it, and I'll be a better designer.
39:21Great designer.
39:22I'm numb. I'm shocked to find out that I'm no longer going to Bryan Park.
39:36Well?
39:37I'm out.
39:38Oh.
39:40Sorry.
39:41Don't cry, Papi.
39:42Don't cry.
39:43One tip.
39:45Big tip.
39:46Big tip.
39:47Big tip.
39:48Please.
39:49Hair.
39:50Makeup.
39:51Styling.
39:52Keep it young.
39:53And modern.
39:54Understood.
39:55Congratulations.
39:57You can leave the runway.
39:58It just means, it just means the world to me.
40:05Hey.
40:06Congratulations.
40:07Hi.
40:09Just like, and it just means that, it just means that I'm one step closer to my dream coming
40:19true that I've always had of being a fashion designer and creating.
40:25That was a fabulous, fabulous presentation by both of you.
40:30I am just extraordinarily proud, and it could have gone either way.
40:37Being on Project Runway, I consider it as a validation.
40:40So Jay, I have to send you to the work room to clean up your space.
40:45Fabulous, fabulous presentation.
40:47There's nothing you should regret at all.
40:49Nothing.
40:50Go ahead.
40:51Why would I?
40:52I've proven to the whole entire world that I can design amazing clothes, and I'm thankful
40:58for this experience.
41:17There's nothing you should regret.
41:18There's nothing you should regret.
41:19There's nothing you should regret.
41:20There's nothing you should regret.
41:21There's nothing you should regret.
41:22There's nothing you should regret.
41:23There's nothing you should regret.
41:24There's nothing you should regret.
41:25There's nothing you should regret.
41:26There's nothing you should regret.
41:27There's nothing you should regret.
41:28There's nothing you should regret.
41:29There's nothing you should regret.
41:30There's nothing you should regret.
41:31There's nothing you should regret.
41:32There's nothing you should regret.
41:33There's nothing you should regret.
41:34There's nothing you should regret.
41:35There's nothing you should regret.
41:36There's nothing you should regret.
41:37There's nothing you should regret.
41:38There's nothing you should regret.
41:39There's nothing you should regret.
