00:01Previously on Project Runway...
00:03Scream for help.
00:05For this challenge, Michael Kors sends you to a hardware store,
00:08not a fabric store, to get your supplies.
00:13This is looking so school play.
00:16Do you have enough of the hardware?
00:18I hope so.
00:19I don't know.
00:20I'm gonna have to move out of New York.
00:25Jay, what you did was truly amazing.
00:28Congratulations.
00:29You are the winner of this challenge.
00:31Jessie, your outfit was disappointing and uninspired.
00:36You're out.
00:38Amy, Holly and Alexis are left on the runway.
00:41Which one of them will be in and which one will be out?
00:43Holly, I'd love to work with you again.
00:45Okay, thank you.
00:46Alexis, I'm sorry, that means you're out.
00:49This is Project Runway.
00:51Yes!
00:52I am fashion. Look at me.
00:53It's cut or be cut.
00:55Just make it work.
00:56Great clothes.
00:57Great style.
00:58Three finalists will make it to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
01:01Well, I won't do anything to win.
01:03I will.
01:04But only one can be the winner.
01:06My weapon of choice.
01:08For these 16 designers, Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
01:13The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine.
01:17An opportunity to sell their line on bluefly.com.
01:20A $50,000 technology suite to create, design and run their business from HP and Intel.
01:25And $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to launch their line.
01:29Hurry up!
01:30I got spanked by Heidi and Michael.
01:44And I've learned my lesson.
01:46The hardware challenge judging was a massacre.
01:48I don't ever want to see a freaking hardware store again.
01:51The only thing that weighed heavy on my heart was I was in the bottom two with my roommate,
01:56Jessie.
01:57But someone had to go home and I was just glad it wasn't me.
02:00At the very beginning, it was sort of intimidating because everybody's so unique and different and
02:08cool in their own way.
02:10But now you sort of really see the humanity in people.
02:14She's an old soul.
02:15Like, I mean, I'm twice her age almost.
02:17But every day we learn something new about each other that we share in common.
02:22And, you know, she feels like a friend.
02:24If she were to be in and I were to be out, I mean, I would be happy for her.
02:28So I don't think there is like a hyper competition between us.
02:32That might change.
02:33We're like the Victoria's Secret wonder bra.
02:36We lifted each other.
02:37It's really cool that the four of us are still together.
02:39I mean, the four of us have a completely different point of view.
02:43Being safe, again, just, I mean, at least I'm being consistent.
02:47That's one thing.
02:48But I was really hoping that something would have stuck out, you know, by now.
02:52What does him always say to you?
02:54Trust your God.
02:55Oh, my viscera.
02:58Which part of your body is that?
03:00I don't know.
03:01I was looking for my viscera for two days.
03:04Good Lord, baby Jesus.
03:07All right, y'all.
03:09Let's get out of here.
03:10Let's go check it out.
03:11Let's get it.
03:12Parsons, here we come.
03:14Well, there are only nine of you left.
03:24Jay, you won the last challenge, which gives you immunity and you cannot be eliminated.
03:30The competition is getting tougher and you need to bring your best designs to every runway.
03:36Starting with this challenge, the winner will no longer receive immunity.
03:41Anyone could go at any time.
03:43There's so much pressure at this point.
03:45You know, there's only a few of us left and it's starting to hit everybody.
03:49Tim is going to meet you on the top of Atlas to help you channel your natural creativity.
03:55Good luck and I see you on the runway.
03:58Bye.
03:59Bye.
04:00We're all thinking what's going to happen.
04:02It might be an eco challenge.
04:04It might have something to do with Central Park or the view from the roof of Atlas.
04:08We don't know.
04:09So we're all excited to find out.
04:10Good morning, designers.
04:11Good morning.
04:12I am delighted to introduce you to Philip Carrion, celebrity hairstylist for Garnier.
04:17Nice to be here.
04:18Designers, I want you to consider where you are.
04:22There is not an environment anywhere that personifies man-made more than this one.
04:27But for this challenge, we're stepping away from the man-made.
04:30We're going back to nature.
04:32The inspiration for your design will come from one of the four natural elements.
04:37Earth, air, fire or water.
04:40And to tell you more, I'm turning things over to Philip.
04:44At Garnier Fructis, natural elements are fused with the latest in beauty technology.
04:49Find your inspiration in the natural world.
04:51And the Garnier team will create the perfect complementary hairstyle to stand up to whatever force of nature you create.
04:58Good luck.
04:59Jay, you won the last challenge.
05:01So you get to choose any element you want.
05:03Earth, air, water, fire.
05:05Which one?
05:06Air.
05:07Air.
05:08Now eight cards.
05:09Two cards containing each of the four elements.
05:12Is that clear?
05:13So as I call your name, you'll come up and choose one of them.
05:16Alright?
05:17Maya.
05:20So Maya has chosen water.
05:23Jonathan.
05:24When there's so few designers now, every decision, every cut, every shopping trip and mood is so important.
05:32Jonathan has air.
05:33It's definitely do or die time.
05:35Ben, you're next.
05:37Ben has chosen water.
05:38Mila.
05:39I'm an earth sign.
05:40My designs are not what somebody would usually equate with earth.
05:45That said, I would try to think outside the box.
05:47Anthony's on fire.
05:48Yeah.
05:49Amy is on fire as well.
05:50So Emilio has earth.
05:51That means Seth Aaron, you have air.
06:04Instantly I think of happy blue , so I'm totally like confused.
06:08Alright, let's head back to the work room and sketch.
06:12Alright designers, you have 30 minutes to sketch.
06:24Then we're going to mood where you will have a budget of $150.
06:28I start sketching and water is just too fluid for me.
06:31So the first thing I think of are sharks.
06:34So I've decided that I'm going to do a suit.
06:37It does take extreme tailoring to, you know, put a suit together.
06:41But I still feel that I need to show them another side of my design style.
06:45I selected earth and Monique is of color.
06:51So I think I can do something to compliment her skin tone.
06:55So I go with a strapless dress that I am going to create.
06:59Some draping and some volume.
07:02For me this challenge may prove to be difficult because I'm just trying to work through the design
07:08to make sure that it encompasses everything I want to present.
07:12Failure is not an option at this point, so onward and upward.
07:17When I thought about water I thought about the ocean and I thought about sirens.
07:29And sirens are kind of like vixens of the water.
07:32So my whole look is going to be based on this woman sort of like coming out of the water.
07:38And she's very serene.
07:44I'm going to do a very Jonathan thing which is creating my own textile.
07:49I'm going to sew layers of fabric together and then cut away at them at different levels
07:53to play with opacity which gives you the impression of airiness.
07:57I want her to look like she's enveloped in a swirl of uncontrollable laughter.
08:01All right designers, we're going off the mood.
08:10All right designers, your time starts right now.
08:16I want to do something with kind of like a tornado-like feel to the garment
08:20by doing, you know, bold stripes and a lot of movements.
08:25Ten minutes remaining.
08:26I'll go with both of these.
08:31Can I get a couple yards of that?
08:33You got it.
08:34Thanks sir.
08:39How much is this?
08:40Three yards?
08:42It's a little bit.
08:43Is that your gray pellet?
08:45Different for you.
08:47I don't think of red when I think of fire.
08:49It kind of goes very deep for me because my pastor,
08:53somebody deliberately burned his house to the ground.
08:55I thought about the remains and like it was dark and smoky.
09:00I'm trying to think of that spot.
09:01Just be you though.
09:03You know what?
09:04Bring this one with me.
09:05Five minutes remains.
09:08This green here.
09:10Okay.
09:13Oh, is it that?
09:14Is this the crinoline, Jessica?
09:16It is.
09:18All right designers, that is time.
09:20Look at how much money I have.
09:21150.
09:22Thanks.
09:23Thank you mood.
09:24Thank you mood.
09:25Thank you mood.
09:30I have my air concept.
09:33I'm going to do midnight.
09:34Midnight air in New York.
09:36Perfect.
09:37It's black.
09:38There's stars.
09:39And I can do whatever I want.
09:42So suddenly I'm happy.
09:43Full speed ahead.
09:46My element is fire.
09:48Inspiration is really about building a structure and the inside of it is where the explosion is happening.
09:58All right designers, you have until midnight tonight for this challenge and precious little time tomorrow.
10:03I think everybody is starting to get a little bit nervous because it's only a few of us so we really have to do better than we've done before.
10:13Even Anthony has been surprisingly quiet for a change.
10:17The concepts are a little bit ambiguous or vague in a way and I think it just makes all of us feel really nervous and unsettled.
10:29Amy you're awful quiet.
10:31Well I'm doing something that's really annoying right now.
10:34The competition is getting harder especially with managing time and so I need to step it up and make sure that what I'm doing I'm capable of constructing with the amount of time allotted.
10:44I think I'm definitely taking a gamble with this challenge because like I'm doing a suit in a day.
10:54Are you as sick of being safe all the time as I am?
10:57Being safe is a big old question mark.
11:00What is it?
11:01What are they waiting to see for me that I'm not showing them?
11:04The week that I was like I'm sick of being safe.
11:06I'm taking a chance.
11:07I was in the bottom two.
11:09Okay.
11:10Like no more of that.
11:11That chance didn't work.
11:12I think it's getting to the point where these designers don't think I'm a threat and that is so untrue.
11:19They just are completely blind to the fact that I'm going to win this whole contest.
11:23For this challenge we can really do a lot because it's all about innovation so I'm creating kind of a unique silhouette.
11:39I'm just really nervous because it's very possible that it's not going to be well received.
11:45Hello everybody.
11:46Hey guys.
11:47Hi everyone.
11:48I have Phillip carry on with me.
11:49Hi.
11:50Hi.
11:51Hi.
11:52We're heading down to the Garnier salon so we can do some consultation.
11:56We get to meet with Phillip from Garnier for this challenge.
11:57I think the hair we're going to do is just going to take us to the next level.
11:58I want her to look like she's enveloped in laughter.
11:59I think it would be nice to do big chunky curls.
12:03I'm going to use the flexible control just because we'll get a nice, soft, beautiful, flowing look out of her hair.
12:08I want this to feel kind of like a whirlwind.
12:09I'm going to take a little bit of this full control spray and just give you an idea because it's nice and strong.
12:16I like that nice shape.
12:17Yeah.
12:18I'm out big to the point that comes accentuated way out here.
12:19It's very aerodynamic and it's defying gravity.
12:20We need to get texture into her hair.
12:21You can see it already wants to look at her hair.
12:22I'm going to use the flexible control just because we'll get a nice, soft, beautiful, flowing look out of her hair.
12:26I want this to feel kind of like a whirlwind.
12:27I'm going to take a little bit of this full control spray and just give you an idea because it's nice and strong.
12:32I like that nice shape.
12:33Yeah.
12:34I'm out big to the point that comes accentuated way out here.
12:39It's very aerodynamic and it's defying gravity.
12:41We need to get texture into her hair.
12:44You can see it already wants to stand out a little bit.
12:47Thanks a lot, Phillip.
12:48You're welcome, Phillip.
12:49That's great.
12:50Hi, everybody.
12:51I'm here to check in with you.
12:52And I'm going to start with Mr. Jonathan.
12:55How are you doing?
12:56My inspiration was actually the lightest side of air, which I thought to be laughter.
13:00That's a nice thought.
13:02Exactly.
13:03And so what I'm doing is I'm cutting away different levels to reveal different colors.
13:07Oh, this is created by you.
13:09All right, I'm going to let you get to work because this is really stunning.
13:13Seth Aaron, you've achieved a lot.
13:16Talk to me.
13:17So my inspiration is sitting in my apartment at night looking out at the city.
13:21I want to give it the appearance of wind.
13:24What I love about this is that, true to you, it really pushes the envelope, but it's believable.
13:31Amy.
13:32Hi, Tim.
13:33How are you doing?
13:34What I really want to do with my element is fire.
13:37To have a kind of contained chaos.
13:39Okay.
13:40So I'm pretty much creating virtually like a bowl around her.
13:45After I spoke to the hair guy, I realized that it would have been great if I created this bowl and had her hair kind of fill it.
13:53I think that would be amazing.
13:54It's a really interesting idea.
13:55I know.
13:56I have to say.
13:57And I'm just really...
13:58Here's my advice.
13:59Let this just distill within you and see where it takes you.
14:04Thanks, Tim.
14:05Thank you, Amy.
14:06Ben.
14:07Hey, Tim.
14:08You're making progress here.
14:09Talk to me about your design.
14:10I got the element water and the concept is inspired by great white sharks.
14:20And I'm using these kind of like fleshy tones to kind of adhere to the concept of like the anatomy.
14:26I'm worried about your work in particular because I feel like the subtleties and nuances aren't being picked up by the judges.
14:34That's why I went the route of doing a suit rather than a dresser.
14:37For this concept, this is what it really demands.
14:41Okay.
14:42Thanks, Ben.
14:44Mila.
14:45Hi.
14:46This textile is a wow.
14:47My element is earth.
14:50And I decided to go with a sort of a mineral inspiration, mineral and metals.
14:55I'm doing a sleeveless jacket and I'm just trimming it with this sort of gunmetal leather.
15:00It's going over this sheer wool knit.
15:02I'm going to do it like a long turtleneck.
15:04And then pant, I'm just doing a stretch wool.
15:07I think I'm going to go with a fuller pant.
15:09It's good counterpoint to have a fuller pant.
15:11What I would be most mindful of is how it all lines up and make adjustments accordingly so that it's just harmonious.
15:18So Maya, what are you doing?
15:20Okay, so my element is water.
15:22I want it to look like a sea creature, like she's sort of coming out of water.
15:26I was just thinking glamorous, classy, sophisticated, modern.
15:31That's who you are.
15:32Yeah.
15:33I have every confidence you can pull this off.
15:35Maya, thank you.
15:36Thank you very much.
15:37All right, designers.
15:38It's hard for me, but I'm going to leave you for the night.
15:40Okay?
15:41Use your time well and make it work.
15:45It's modulars.
15:50These fabrics are so pretty.
15:54I like the way it lays, like it's laying to you right here.
15:57You have a great shoulder line.
16:05Your seams are hitting exactly where I want them to.
16:07Like gloves.
16:08Yeah, it's like rubber gloves, huh?
16:10We got it?
16:11We got it?
16:12You're a big part of my inspiration.
16:13I just, I identify with pale people.
16:15I am expressing air in my garment.
16:18I'm just worried that the judges will think I'm being too literal.
16:22All right, let me see you walk like this.
16:23But my interpretation isn't necessarily air.
16:26It's actually laughter.
16:27Okay.
16:28We're good.
16:29Wow.
16:30That's insane.
16:31That's insane.
16:32And then I'll do a skirt on top of all that.
16:35My model fitting with Monique is going amazingly.
16:37She fit my bodice beautifully and we're working on the skirt.
16:41Oh, it's so pretty.
16:43I'm enjoying the spirit of the competition now.
16:46Ben's look is a great idea.
16:49I can tell that he had a great direction.
16:51But the trousers are just awful and are not doing anything for the model's crotch.
16:56And these are a little off-center.
16:58This is the first time that I've done pants and it's a little nerve-wracking.
17:01Allison's staying positive and that's all I can ask for right now because I don't need any more pressure.
17:07I want you to look like you're caught in a tornado.
17:11That's cool.
17:12Perfect.
17:13Can you hold this, like, up?
17:15See if your hair was filled completely in there.
17:18It would be so amazing.
17:20My shoulders are super broad.
17:22Even putting shoulder pads in it.
17:24You'll be a little bit 80s little Blade Runner.
17:27Pretty, pretty, pretty.
17:29Okay, sweetie pie.
17:31Aw.
17:32We're gonna go to Bryant Park together.
17:34See ya.
17:35See ya later.
17:39This is not a departure for me to use darker colors.
17:43And in case anyone didn't know, black, not only is it beautiful, it's officially presidential.
17:49Whoa, wowzers.
17:50Holy.
17:51You're color blocking the paint, aren't ya?
17:53Yeah.
17:54And I like it.
17:55I actually love it.
17:56What is it?
17:57Air?
17:58Oh, no.
17:59Oh.
18:00No, I just...
18:01Fire.
18:02Fire.
18:03You just made me feel like .
18:05My fellow designers have really taken creative liberty with this challenge.
18:10You know, I understand their loose interpretation, but there's a lot of dark, opaque, heavy designs.
18:17It does look like that.
18:18I mean, it's like smoke or steam or...
18:20Okay.
18:21No, I get it now.
18:22A couple of people are using gray and black for various elements, so it's hard to tell sometimes.
18:33All of the designers are in a state of panic at this point.
18:36Guys?
18:37Yes?
18:38I feel like everybody is behind.
18:39I spent most of the day drafting.
18:40I'm nervous about time.
18:41I still have a whole another sleeve to put together, and I have to finish the hems, but
18:53it makes me feel a little better that everyone else is freaking out as much as I am.
18:57Everyone is really pushing the envelope and really creating huge shapes and huge statements.
19:10We are all scared to death that there's no way these garments are going to get finished.
19:18I think I got a little ambitious.
19:22Everyone did, though.
19:23It's been a stressful day because for something that I thought was going to go pretty smoothly,
19:29it's not.
19:30But everything's cut out, and I have no fabric left, and it's like I couldn't even start over
19:35if I wanted to.
19:49Hello.
19:50Hi.
19:51I just got married to my husband Bobby.
19:53We've been together for a little over a year and a half now, and we've never been apart
19:58longer than like three days.
19:59How are you doing?
20:00I'm good.
20:01Yeah?
20:02I miss this laugh, you know, like little things.
20:06It's hard, but it's all for the right reasons.
20:11I love you.
20:12I miss you.
20:13I miss you too.
20:14Bye.
20:15Okay.
20:16Bye.
20:17Bye.
20:22I haven't felt this tired.
20:24I don't know when was the last time.
20:26You can do it, Emilio.
20:33Oh, this is going to be a brutal day.
20:35I have to make sure that that structure that I'm making stands.
20:40I'm definitely a risk taker.
20:42That's what it takes to be a true innovator.
20:44Do you wish that you hadn't designed something as complicated?
20:47If it turns out, then I won't regret it.
20:49If you're not willing to take that risk in the first place, you're not going to be the
20:52next great American designer.
20:54Leave is for.
20:56Return is for.
20:57Let's make it work.
20:58Keep walking.
21:11This is the first time in this competition I'm pushing it to the last second.
21:17I don't like to actually have to cut a pair of pants with two hours to go and hope the
21:22hell they function the way they should.
21:25How much longer you got, Ben?
21:26I have no idea.
21:28I'm trying to finish as quickly as possible.
21:30I still have to put sleeves into my jacket and put linings in.
21:34It's not just a couple little things.
21:35It's daunting.
21:39I finished half an hour before everybody else did.
21:41And I see Ben still has a lot to do.
21:44Can I offer you some help?
21:45You're done?
21:46Yeah.
21:47He's been struggling, so I just wanted to be nice to him and help him.
21:52Okay.
21:53Yeah.
21:54Okay.
21:55Jay, he's one of my dearest friends here, and it's nice to have that support system.
21:58You're the best.
22:02How is everyone?
22:04How do we look?
22:05You look like you're in the middle of a make it work moment.
22:08Yes, we are.
22:09You can say that again.
22:10I'm about to send in your models.
22:12You will have an hour each to send them to the Garnier hair salon and the L'Oreal Paris makeup room.
22:17It is the Garnier challenge, but you do not have more time for hair.
22:21Use the bluefly.com wall.
22:23All right, everyone.
22:24All right.
22:35Oh, it looks so pretty.
22:36Not bad.
22:38Mila.
22:39Usually, the morning of a runway show, I just have hems and pressing, and I've got that plus a whole pair of pants to finish.
22:47I'm so paranoid about, like, making them too short, you know?
22:50I'm definitely feeling nervous.
22:52I don't like this feeling of the fear of the unknown.
22:55What do you think?
22:56Strong.
22:57I haven't even gotten to the pants yet.
23:01Break this and make it so it splits on the outside.
23:04Set there in garments.
23:06I just don't see women saying, oh, my God, I would love to be seen in that, simply because his clothes can be a bit intimidating.
23:14I'm definitely concerned for Amy.
23:16I know she can do this design.
23:18However, I don't know if she had time to engineer it.
23:24She's mother earth daughter.
23:26Cool.
23:27So we're New York City night.
23:28The whole idea of wind and this is flowing.
23:31It's really pretty.
23:47I'm very nervous about the dress because it's not standing correctly at all, and the hair is very messy, and it's not wrapping all the way around her.
23:57I definitely have reasons to be concerned right now.
24:00All right, designers, let's go.
24:01I don't know why Amy is choosing in this moment to give her model, Harry .
24:09She needs a narrow fare up there.
24:11That's what she needs.
24:19Designers.
24:20Yes, sir.
24:21You're still in here sewing.
24:22Yeah.
24:23Details, details, Tim.
24:24Is anyone else as worried as I am?
24:26Everybody is in the same state of panic.
24:29I don't see any other completed garments anywhere in the room.
24:33I guess there's a little comfort in knowing that everybody else is panicking as well, but it's still unnerving.
24:38Here's my weapon.
24:40As much as I want to wow the judges, I'm already seeing flaws, and that's the part that worries me.
24:46It's one of those challenges that we just all wanted to do something that reflected us, but I think we all got really ambitious on this one and just did things that may or may not work for us.
24:55Perfect.
24:56I feel sick.
24:57Did you decide?
24:58Designers and models, we're going down to the runway right now, so follow me, please.
25:03Well, this is the time to just go with your gut and go 110% because we are at a point where everyone is strong and anyone can go home.
25:12Anthony, Emilio.
25:14We're down.
25:15Amy.
25:16Amy.
25:17No, Ben.
25:18Yeah, I'm still here.
25:19Hello.
25:20Hi.
25:21Welcome to the runway.
25:22As you know in fashion one day you're in, and the next day you're out.
25:38For this challenge we ask you to create an innovative look that was inspired by the four natural elements, earth, air, fire, and water.
25:47The parameters for this challenge were very broad so that you could show us your interpretation and vision without limitation.
25:55And I really look forward to seeing what you've done.
25:57All right, let's meet the judges.
25:59First we have top American designer Michael Kors.
26:02Hey guys.
26:03Fashion director for Marie Claire magazine Nina Garcia.
26:07Hello everyone.
26:08French fashion designer Roland Moray, whose designs have been worn by Victoria Beckham, Scarlett Johansson, and Cameron Diaz.
26:15Welcome.
26:16Hello.
26:17Hello.
26:18We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
26:21One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
26:25Jay, you won the last challenge which gives you immunity and you cannot be eliminated this week.
26:31Okay, let's start the show.
26:34When I see my dress walk down the runway, she looks like water.
26:38The ruffles are flowing really beautifully.
26:40I really imagined this siren, this vixen of the water.
26:44And I really tried to make a look that spoke that.
26:47And I'm really happy with it.
26:49It's totally me.
26:50My look was really strong.
26:55It's bold.
26:56It exuded air.
26:58And just the whole idea of tornado.
27:01And I just love the way it feels and the way it looks and the colors.
27:05I feel proud that I did three pieces in a very short amount of time.
27:14The concept was strong and I did have a sense of direction.
27:17I think I stayed true to myself.
27:19Whoo!
27:20I love the look of my dress.
27:23Christina comes down the runway like a Clydesdale.
27:26She really knows how to walk and move in my clothes.
27:31And that makes me so excited.
27:36I feel really good about this look.
27:38Everything came together at the last minute.
27:40I really hustled and I feel good about the pants.
27:43I wanted to show them that I can work with texture
27:46and that I can work with less contrasting elements in my design.
27:53My final product is absolutely breathtaking.
27:57If you look under romance in the dictionary,
28:00you would see a picture of this look.
28:02And Carrie looks like an angel.
28:04I wanted this garment to give you pure joy when you looked at this dress.
28:10And I feel like I achieved that.
28:12The dress comes out and it's not standing correctly at all.
28:18And the hair is very messy.
28:20But I think the concept is very different and unique.
28:24I absolutely do think the dress expressed my voice as a designer.
28:33It's a beautifully put together dress.
28:36The fit is impeccable.
28:39And most importantly, Monique feels beautiful and strong so she can sell the dress.
28:48I put down the runway exactly what I wanted to do.
28:52There's no second thoughts on was it the right choice for me?
28:55Are the judges going to like it?
28:57I don't know what they're going to think.
28:58All I know is I love it.
29:00If I call your name, please step forward.
29:07Anthony.
29:09Emilio.
29:10Jay.
29:11If I have called your name, congratulations.
29:14Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next round.
29:17You can leave the runway.
29:20The rest of you represent the highest and the lowest scores.
29:23One of you will be named the winner.
29:26And one of you will be out.
29:31Let's bring out your models.
29:37Mila, tell us about your look and your inspiration.
29:39My inspiration is earth.
29:41I was inspired by rocks, stones, minerals.
29:46I've seen such ambitious work from you.
29:49And suddenly you kind of threw it away on something that I think is very normal.
29:54And I do see that you're continuing this geometric thing.
29:58But at a certain point now, I've seen the arrows.
30:01I've seen the bullseye.
30:02It's kind of the one trick pony.
30:05I didn't understand this.
30:06This is like another designer suddenly turned up and took over your body.
30:10The only thing that is really interesting is the vest.
30:13The pants and the sweater are just completely random pieces that you can buy in any store.
30:20And I think you choose the wrong direction.
30:23You should go a showpiece.
30:25And you didn't make a showpiece.
30:26That's what the catwalk is about.
30:28Seth Aaron.
30:29My element was air.
30:31Every night when I stare out in New York City, it's beautiful to me.
30:36So I emulated air twisting and on the back it's gusting.
30:41When I think about air, I don't automatically think about black leather.
30:45But what you've done in one day is astonishing.
30:49Thank you so much.
30:50She came out and I thought that she had such a great look top to toe.
30:54And I just designed with emotion for this.
30:56So I'm happy with it.
30:57You are very true to yourself.
30:59And when we see something, it's very consistent coming from you.
31:02And I think that's very important for a designer.
31:06Now, the pants.
31:07Is this boots?
31:08No.
31:09This is a metallic denim.
31:10And these are actually strips going on.
31:13You have a new idea of trousers.
31:15It's really interesting.
31:16Some big designer will be jealous of them.
31:19Coming from you, that means quite a bit.
31:22Maya, tell us about your look and your inspiration.
31:25My inspiration was water.
31:26I used a stretch wool.
31:27And I channeled a little bit of old Hollywood glamour with a Veronica Lake hairstyle.
31:33I think the dress is chic.
31:34The cowl is nice in the back.
31:36That's a good look for a catwalk.
31:38It's easy to achieve and it's personal.
31:41Thanks.
31:42Nina, what do you think?
31:43I think this is a perfectly beautiful dress, actually.
31:46However, what worries me about you is that you are very referential.
31:50It's always drawing from another designer's point of view.
31:54This challenge, it's Nina Ricci.
31:57Do you see that?
31:58Well, not particularly.
32:00I mean...
32:01I think everything that I do really represents me as what I call my own, for sure.
32:05But the day you put a collection on the catwalk, they will say, oh, it's inspired by, and that will destroy you.
32:13Amy.
32:15My element was fire.
32:16I wanted to incorporate her hair into the garment, building a kind of contained chaos.
32:21It looks like a cat in a baby sling.
32:24She looks like she's a barmaid serving her hair.
32:28Like she's growing hair out of her chest.
32:29It's just weird.
32:31It was supposed to be tighter.
32:32Let's get rid of the hair.
32:33Can we just do that?
32:34Just dump it.
32:36Can I tell you something?
32:37Yes.
32:38It's so much better without that in there.
32:41It's okay, guys.
32:43I said much better.
32:44I didn't say great.
32:45I'm not impressed.
32:46I'm sorry.
32:47I think you got caught up in your concept.
32:49You couldn't step back and say, wait a second, does this work?
32:53Or is it just plain odd?
32:55Is it plain bizarre?
32:56You have to really analyze what's your level as a designer.
33:00Just achieve what you can achieve and be proud of it.
33:05Ben, tell us about your look and your inspiration.
33:07My element was water.
33:08I wanted to go in the direction of the wildlife that lives in the water.
33:12The great white was the first animal that actually came into my mind.
33:16And I really wanted to do a suit because I haven't done one yet.
33:19I had no idea what it was other than an ill-fitting suit.
33:23And now when you explain it, you had to put the shark's teeth on her sleeves?
33:28Is that supposed to tell me, oh, she's a shark?
33:31I will say that the hair and the makeup, I get this kind of subliminally elegant shark out of it.
33:40All I can think about is if you don't know how to make a suit, don't make a suit.
33:46It looks like the first suit you've ever made.
33:50I think this is a real mess.
33:53It looks to me as if she's wearing underwear over the pants. It's bizarre.
33:59Come on, Ben. A jockstrap pant? It's wacky.
34:03Ben, you have made in the past some beautiful clothes.
34:07Do you think that this represents you as a designer?
34:09I think I bit off more than I could chew.
34:11Jonathan, tell us about your look and your inspiration.
34:15Sure. I started with the element of air.
34:18This is my idea of laughter.
34:20Laughter is transparent, and laughter also envelops you.
34:23I started with creating my own textile.
34:26I wanted to keep it in the tones that actually occur in Carrie naturally.
34:30I love the fact that you played up the model's skin tone,
34:35because she really has beautiful skin tone.
34:38I think it's an amazing work. Amazing draping. It's quite fantastic.
34:43I love the textile. I think her hair and makeup is definitely best in show.
34:48Carrie, what do you think about the dress?
34:50I was in absolute awe of the sheer detail that Jonathan put into it,
34:54and the fact that he took my skin tone into consideration.
34:58I was very, very pleased with it.
34:59Pale understands pale.
35:01Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
35:04We're going to have a little chat, and then I'm going to call you back.
35:07You can leave the runway.
35:09Okay.
35:14Okay, let's talk about the designers with the highest scores.
35:17I think the one who achieved the most is Maya.
35:21That girl controlled from A to Z, and I really like that.
35:25The entire aesthetic was well done.
35:28All the right choices.
35:29Yeah. Yeah.
35:30But she's being inspired by something that is already done.
35:33I want to see more of her.
35:35I'm not sure if she knows yet who she is.
35:38Who she is.
35:39I'm curious to see what she will do next.
35:44Let's move on to Seth Aaron.
35:45He just really showed in this challenge what good of a tailor he really is.
35:49There was something beautiful about the back of that jacket.
35:53He's got a signature.
35:54His clothes talk for him.
35:56He can leave the room, you know he's there.
36:02Let's move on to Jonathan.
36:04The color was fantastic on her.
36:07Really beautiful.
36:08It was so poetic, the way he matched her skin tone to that blush.
36:14It was perfection.
36:15But it's a romantic, and that's quite beautiful.
36:18But hey, I'm French.
36:21Now let's talk about the designers with the lowest scores.
36:25We had a lot of big mistakes up there.
36:28Like Ben, for example.
36:29He's never made a suit.
36:30He had no idea what he was doing.
36:32And that jockstrap trouser.
36:34I mean, come on.
36:35And then you pointed out the little shark's teeth, which I had not noticed.
36:40That killed me.
36:41He's been a good designer.
36:43So this is definitely very odd for him to do.
36:49Let's move on to Amy.
36:50This was weird.
36:51She picked something that was, quite frankly, more ambitious than she really knew how to achieve.
36:56She just got stuck with her concept.
36:59And she ended up with a mess.
37:01A really weird looking mess.
37:03It's almost like she's trying too hard.
37:08Okay, let's move on to Mila.
37:11This was super boring.
37:12Oh, my God.
37:13That was kind of Mila designing an outfit for a mall walk.
37:17You know, what is worse than someone like Amy who is trying to step outside the box?
37:22Or someone who is doing a tracksuit, basically, to go to the mall in?
37:27Me too.
37:28This challenge was like, I can't do my geometry, architectural, white and black.
37:32Oops, what am I going to do now?
37:34So, does this mean that unless it's crisp, black and white, she's totally lost?
37:39I mean, she might be.
37:40I'm not sure, but she might be.
37:41Okay, so have we made our decision?
37:45I think so.
37:46Okay, let's bring them back out.
37:47The six of you represent the best and the worst.
38:02One of you will be named the winner.
38:05And one of you will be out.
38:12Seth Aaron, you're in.
38:14You can leave the runway.
38:23Jonathan, congratulations.
38:26You are the winner of this challenge.
38:28Thank you so much.
38:30I miss you more.
38:31I thank you.
38:32I adore your work.
38:33Your dress, especially the top, was gorgeous, romantic, and yes, very airy.
38:39You pushed yourself and it showed.
38:41You can leave the runway.
38:42Congratulations.
38:47I won!
38:49Winning this challenge gives me the power to get to Bryant Park.
38:52Wow!
38:53Congratulations!
38:54Your first win!
38:56Okay, Jonathan.
38:57You're good.
38:58You're headed in the right direction.
38:59Just keep winning now.
39:02Maya, you're in.
39:04You can leave the runway.
39:05Thank you very much.
39:08Mila, you're in.
39:10You can leave the runway.
39:16Ben, Amy,
39:18one of you will be out.
39:23Ben,
39:24a good suit has to be meticulous.
39:27Yours was an amateur mess.
39:29And that jockstrap panty tail was unflattering.
39:33The shark's teeth were bizarre and pretty much came back to bite you.
39:38Amy, your look was out there and not in a good way.
39:41We encourage you all to push the envelope,
39:43but the final result still has to be beautiful, elegant fashion.
39:48Amy?
39:49Amy?
39:58You're in.
40:00You can leave the runway.
40:01You can leave the runway.
40:02I'm sorry, Ben, that means you're out.
40:13If he doesn't.
40:15Thank you so much for the opportunity.
40:17I appreciate it.
40:19Even though my time is up, I wouldn't have traded in for anything in the world.
40:24Oh, no.
40:26I'm gonna miss you.
40:28It's a great experience.
40:29I wish all of you the best.
40:31You're brilliant designers.
40:35Ben, I feel sick.
40:37We're gonna miss you terribly.
40:40I appreciate it.
40:41So I have to send you the work room to clean up your space.
40:43All right.
40:44This isn't the last you'll hear from me.
40:46I'll be around.
40:47I'm still gonna be doing what I love to do.
40:48It's one of those passions that you just can't get rid of.
