00:01Previously on Project Runway.
00:04You will be creating a look out of potato sacks.
00:08Why is this navy blue?
00:10It's all one piece.
00:11Should it be one piece?
00:13I'd wipe that away.
00:18The dress is too tight on your model.
00:20The plain potato sack would be more flattering.
00:23If you turn around, we see a butt.
00:25Yeah, it does.
00:26They'll notice you.
00:27I feel like I don't see enough of the challenge in a way.
00:30Jay, you're the winner of this challenge.
00:32Thank you so much.
00:33Pamela, that means you're out.
00:36Seth Aaron, which one will be out?
00:38I would like to work with Sarah.
00:42I'm sorry, Elisabetta, that means you're out.
00:44This is Project Runway.
00:46Yes!
00:47I am fashion. Look at me.
00:48The search for the next big fashion designer.
00:51It's cut or be cut.
00:53Just make it work.
00:5416 designers.
00:56Great clothes.
00:58Great style.
00:59I've got it all.
01:00Three finalists will make it to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
01:03Well, I won't do anything to win.
01:05I will.
01:06But only one can be the winner.
01:08My weapon of choice.
01:10For these 16 designers, Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
01:15The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine.
01:19An opportunity to sell their line on bluefly.com.
01:22A $50,000 technology suite to create, design and run their business from HP and Intel.
01:27And $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to launch their line.
01:31In order for me to go forward in this competition, I need to be me and I need to decide what Jesus'
01:54Estrada designed.
01:55He'll just surprise us each time.
01:56He'll do, like, the pink.
01:57Oh, no, shh.
01:58Don't grab her name up.
01:59It's too early.
02:00I think pink should have gone home.
02:03I'm completely shocked that she's still here.
02:06She's putting her contacts in.
02:07Uh-oh.
02:08I can only see through one eye.
02:09Maybe that'll help you design.
02:11All right, fellas.
02:12Let's hear it out.
02:13Oh, shoes.
02:14Got your cane?
02:15Oh.
02:16Hello.
02:17Hello.
02:18It's time for your next challenge.
02:33Would you like to meet some of the most iconic fashion designers of all time?
02:38Yes.
02:39Tim is ready to introduce you to them, as well as fill you in on all the details for
02:44your next challenge.
02:45Good luck, and I'll see you on the runway.
02:48Bye, everybody.
02:49Bye.
02:50I've never met top designers before.
02:54Of course, it's Project Runway, so who knows?
02:57I know exactly where we're going.
02:59I know that that's The Met in front of us.
03:01And I'm super excited because The Met is one of the most inspiring places in the world.
03:09Good morning, designers, and welcome to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
03:19We are standing in the newly reopened American Wing's Charles Engelhard Court.
03:24Surrounding us are ten iconic looks from the curatorial department of the Costume Institute.
03:30And as a fashion designer, the ultimate achievement is to be part of this collection.
03:35For this challenge, you will be working in teams of two to create a high-end signature look.
03:42A look, frankly, that could fit in with this company.
03:45And in order to ensure your success, we are giving you $500.
03:51The highest in the history of Project Runway.
03:55We'll have two days for this look.
03:57Yes!
03:59Jay, as the winner of the last challenge, you are automatically a team leader.
04:03Next is...
04:07Jesus!
04:09Anthony!
04:10Janine!
04:12Mila!
04:17Ping!
04:22I am very excited to be a leader because I'm very good at delegate responsibilities and give clear instructions.
04:28And our last team leader is Emilio.
04:33Beginning with Jay, you will each select your other team member.
04:39Maya?
04:40Will you work with me?
04:43Jesus, who are you choosing?
04:44Amy.
04:46Anthony?
04:47I choose this day, Seth Aaron.
04:49Where's my brown sugar?
04:52Ben, will you be my buddy?
04:54Yeah.
04:55Okay!
04:56Jonathan has excellent construction skills, so...
04:58Let's win it.
04:59Anna and I are the only ones left, and Ping has the decision to make.
05:03And I don't know how to play, because ultimately I really don't want Ping to pick me.
05:07I would choose...
05:09JC.
05:13I don't know how the hell this is going to work.
05:16So Emilio...
05:18We're going to do it. You're the classic American girl.
05:21Designers, before we go back to Parsons to sketch,
05:23I want you to take some time and really get inspired by these incredible iconic pieces.
05:32I'm standing like this close to a classic Dior.
05:36There's no glass, there's no security guards, no pitbulls.
05:40And it's just...
05:41You see how Madame Grey has done this?
05:46The little piece.
05:47I've never been this close to couture before.
05:49Isn't it thrilling?
05:50I feel like I'm going to cry.
05:51I know, I feel the same way.
05:53I want our look to be really bold.
05:55I love all the applique work.
05:58The stuff I'm looking at is just awe-inspiring.
06:00Balenciaga and Dior both were designers that I very much looked up to.
06:03So just to sit there and see that in front of me is absolutely amazing.
06:08Oh, Ben, give me a hug. I'm so excited.
06:11Alright designers, let's go back to Parsons and sketch.
06:21I was thinking I'm very drapey and three-dimensional, soft and organic and flowy kind of thing.
06:26And you are very tailored and precise and so I was thinking combine these two.
06:31But this will be black on top.
06:33Okay, the jacket.
06:34Yeah, so the surprise element will be the yellow.
06:37The yellow.
06:38Tim definitely made sure to tell us that in the end the team lead had the final decision.
06:43And I tell you, Mila has no problem making decisions.
06:47Too risky.
06:49I think it's like a blender.
06:51Janine and I want to do two pieces because we want a look that is going to be multifunctional.
06:57Is there a way we could cheat around here?
07:00No, I think we should really focus on that boat neck.
07:04I really felt like I wanted to take the lead on this one because if we get in the bottom, since he has immunity, I would be the one to go home.
07:12So I have to be the one to defend this.
07:15Alright design teams, we're going to Mood.
07:22Designers, welcome to Mood.
07:23You have 45 minutes and your time starts now.
07:28Okay.
07:30Hello.
07:31Jesus and I are going to do kind of a dramatic dress with a large vest over it.
07:37I like this one.
07:38I'm just excited to get a lot of expensive fabrics.
07:40Yeah, that's the closest.
07:41Ping, make sure you know what you're grabbing.
07:42Oh, this side is beautiful.
07:44Gosh, it's also physical work.
07:46Are you planning on being able to do this?
07:47No.
07:48You do it.
07:49That's going to with my pattern.
07:50Oh.
07:51We want to cut it all together.
07:52I don't want to have a yard and a half a yard extra.
07:53Yeah, yeah.
07:54Okay, okay.
07:55All right.
07:56Give me that.
07:57Let's see the colors.
07:58I like this.
07:59I like the fact that it's hard and soft.
08:00Hard, soft.
08:01You want this one yard, right?
08:02Yeah.
08:03Where is my sketchbook?
08:04We found something.
08:05Okay, can we just keep this here for a minute and keep looking?
08:08This is a good possibility.
08:09I want to take a nod to the 60s.
08:12Just something kind of stunning and fashion forward at the same time.
08:16I want to see my sketchbook.
08:17Okay.
08:18Designers, you have five minutes remaining.
08:19You know what?
08:20It's not important.
08:21Forget it.
08:22Let's take this and let's go back downstairs.
08:23Jessie, Jessie.
08:24Hold on to that.
08:25That's $500 just sitting around.
08:26I just lost my sketchbook, okay?
08:27I don't want to lost the $500.
08:28Wait, did we get everything?
08:29Yeah.
08:30Hang, Jessie.
08:31You have two minutes remaining.
08:32There you go.
08:34$4.83.
08:35Say it.
08:36It's a lot.
08:37Bye.
08:38Bye.
08:39Bye.
08:40Bye.
08:41Bye.
08:42Bye.
08:43Bye.
08:44Bye.
08:45Bye.
08:46Bye.
08:47Bye.
08:48Bye.
08:49Bye.
08:50Bye.
08:51Bye.
08:52Bye.
08:53Bye.
08:54Bye.
08:55Bye.
08:56Bye.
08:59You start drawing.
09:00Mark your center back, first of all.
09:02Emilio and I are paired up together and it's a little bit intimidating for me that he really
09:07is established as a designer versus my relative newness.
09:12Emilio, are you some kind of secret genius?
09:14He has more of a bold design sense and in a way I have sort of a softness and a certain
09:19adaptiveness.
09:20Let's get onto the code as soon as we can.
09:22Bear with me because I tend to like really need to like digest things.
09:26Emilio is a very meticulous worker, very planned.
09:29She spends a lot of time pattern making, so we work a little bit differently.
09:33She's doing a lot of thinking and I'm doing a lot of executing.
09:37We were always told that this should be a team effort.
09:40However, the team leader does take more responsibility and is at greater risk.
09:45I don't want it to look like a Miss America sash though.
09:49Are you seeing it right here?
09:50Yeah.
09:51So the necklace will be attached but it's not going to be...
09:54It will be attached to the skirt.
09:56You're going to cover all this?
09:58I'm not going to do all this work if you're going to cover it.
10:00It's very difficult to work with Jesse.
10:03I do things less by the book.
10:06He may feel insecure with my approach.
10:09I'll build the pants.
10:11Match with that.
10:12Just pants?
10:17With Ping, I'm always worried about time.
10:19She's constantly changing ideas and things are always evolving.
10:22We've got to pick our ideas.
10:23Okay, don't tell me anything anymore.
10:25Let me...
10:26I'm not used to, you know, to wonder about my designs.
10:30I feel like I'm just trying to rein in the crazy.
10:33The reason why I keep changing is because you make me doubt about my design.
10:39It's not that I'm doubting the vision.
10:40I just want to know that there is one.
10:47Our challenge is to create a high-end signature look based on our personal style as designer.
10:53Right on, brother.
10:54Ping and Jesse are fighting the whole time, so it's really hard to see if they're going
10:58to be able to pull off a cohesive look.
11:00You only worry about this right now, and I'll continue to think about the entire look.
11:04Cool.
11:05And then I'll tell you exactly.
11:06No, that's a good place to start.
11:10So far, it's been great working with Jonathan.
11:12We're very excited about our look.
11:14These look too wingy to you.
11:15He's given me the lead in the construction of the coat, and he's making the top and the pants.
11:22Don't screw it up, Jonathan.
11:24No, don't try to get in my head, Jesse.
11:26You're just gonna punch you in the throat?
11:28Our color palette is bright yellow, red, and black.
11:32So, at this point, I think that we are designing a gown for the vice president of McDonald's.
11:39However, everybody needs a dress.
11:45I'm building a dress that is about 30 different pieces that will be pieced together sort of like origami.
11:51We've got two days to do it, and I think we're gonna need a lot more time.
11:54Today, we're ready.
12:06We're thanking Anthony and I are like, sweet.
12:08We got all day to finish just this little bit of stitch work, and Tim walks in.
12:13Good morning, everybody.
12:14Good morning, Mr. Tim.
12:15Gather around, please.
12:16Right over here.
12:17Classic.
12:18I've gathered you together to tell you that you will be creating an additional look.
12:25You all know that there is a mass-market customer who wants to wear fashionable, yet affordable clothes.
12:32So, for the second part of this challenge, you will be creating what I'm calling a look for less,
12:37using 10% of the budget you have for your signature look.
12:42I'll go buy some napkins and paper towels and some hot glue.
12:47I mean, what do you do with 50 bucks?
12:49And this look for less will be derived from the look of another team.
12:54The key word here is derivation.
12:59You are designers.
13:01You are not plagiarists.
13:03As I pull each team from the bag, that team will declare which team's look they want to work with.
13:09We have Ping and Jessie.
13:11I would say Emil.
13:13Janine and Ben.
13:14We'll do Mila and Jonathan's.
13:16Okay.
13:17Yes.
13:18Jay and Maya.
13:19We're going to go with Ben and Janine.
13:21Mila and Jonathan.
13:22We're going to do Anthony and Seth.
13:24Yeah.
13:25Okay.
13:26Anthony and Seth Aaron.
13:27Jesus and Amy.
13:29And now we have Jesus and Amy.
13:31Ping and Jessie.
13:33Emilio and Anna, you have Maya and Jay.
13:35Great.
13:36We have to make another outfit inspired by another designer's look.
13:41I'm shocked at this point because we're still not done with our other look.
13:45All right.
13:46You will now have 20 minutes.
13:47Then we're going shopping at Mood.
13:49And I only want one team member.
13:51So your 20 minutes begins right now.
13:54Go, go.
13:55Ping's construction is very drapey and we can just grab a piece of fabric and drape a pair of beautiful pants.
14:03Jay's and Maya's dress is very sculptural.
14:06So Anna and I decided to design an asymmetrical dress in their colors.
14:12Do the lace at the bottom and do the peach right here.
14:15At this point my mind is just going peach and lace.
14:18It's like old lady.
14:19Our time frame is horrifying.
14:21We are going to do a really cute cocktail dress.
14:24I mean we could put straps on it.
14:27This is their sketches.
14:28We're not copying them but making it cheaper.
14:30I'm not copying it.
14:31But what I'm saying is we don't need to do a jacket.
14:33We just sketched together something that's not too difficult.
14:36I'm just a little worried because I won't be going shopping.
14:38So I don't know what Ping is going to come back with.
14:44All right, designers.
14:45Your 20 minutes starts right now.
14:48They're off.
14:51There's nothing like that up here.
14:52Oh, okay, okay.
14:54Yeah.
14:55Black and white.
14:56Mila and Jonathan have been using silk.
14:59Okay, I need it.
15:00But cotton obviously is absolutely appropriate for a look for less.
15:05Dark or ribbon.
15:06I know where.
15:07Ping, five minutes.
15:11This is perfect.
15:13Designers, time is up.
15:14I'm done.
15:15Come on, everyone.
15:16Let's go back to Parsons.
15:17Thank you, everybody.
15:21I've got a fabulous, fabulous fabric.
15:23Look.
15:24I don't even know the best way to describe it, but it's a nice hooker kind of shiny synthetic something.
15:30I can just imagine the judges saying, this looks cheap.
15:33I'm a little nervous that we won't be able to finish, but at the same time, I have immunity.
15:37So there really isn't a lot of pressure.
15:40We've cut the patterns and Maya's responsibility is to sew these pieces together.
15:45While you bring your ass over his big tag, I'm gonna take a break.
15:51Wow.
15:52I secretly wish that I wasn't working with Jay because if he didn't have immunity, he would probably be working a little harder.
15:58Oh, my God.
15:59We have the skirt pattern.
16:01At this point, Ben and I have a really solid design, but it's like the first time from starting a challenge where I feel really good about the work.
16:10That saves us an hour.
16:11That's good.
16:12Yeah.
16:15I'm still cranking out the coat because it really needs to be perfectly sewn together.
16:20I love how, like, we haven't even thought about starting on our second look yet.
16:24If you're not making it, you know it's not getting it done.
16:27At this point, the workload hasn't changed.
16:29I'm still sewing everything and Mila's still making the coat.
16:32Now I'm making the second look as well, so that is concerning me a little bit.
16:37You better get a windshield coat.
16:39Well, yeah, I'm fine until people bring me the paper and change the game.
16:43Well, this is ugly.
16:44I'm the type that if you're not doing it right, get the hell out of my way because I will keep changing it until I'm happy.
16:50If I don't compromise 100% to what you want, then you can't seem to find a middle ground with me.
16:55Seth Aaron is not accustomed to working with other individuals, but I knew that slapping the hell out of Seth Aaron was probably not the best way to get the greatest result.
17:04I'm following you now.
17:05Mm-mm.
17:06Seth Aaron, I'm going to make you write it in blood because every time you tell me you like something, you change it.
17:16Good, how are you?
17:17We made a beautiful dress for you.
17:18Look.
17:23I'm basically running the fittings now as well as constructing everything.
17:31Can we look at it just...
17:32No, no.
17:33Wait, wait, wait.
17:34Don't say no.
17:35I don't think Jesse take me seriously as a leader.
17:37He questioned about everything I said to him.
17:40It was a question because we're experimenting because I want to see my dress.
17:44And I think it's a very unprofessional behavior.
17:47You guys can trust me to play with it and be dramatic.
17:51Go the other way with it.
17:52No, no, no.
17:53I don't want to start like this.
17:54I want to start with the sleeve on.
17:56You're so damn quiet.
17:57I'm the team leader.
17:58I know you're the team leader.
17:59You're making it clear.
18:00Yeah.
18:01Ping and Jesse are like Lucy and Ricky.
18:04Just shut up and work.
18:06Is it time for them to go?
18:07Bye, y'all.
18:08Bye.
18:11I was just saying, Ping, you've been really doing an awesome job.
18:14Your dress is beautiful.
18:16Yes.
18:20Ping.
18:21Hmm?
18:22You didn't have nothing nice to say in return to me.
18:25I think you are very funny, very sweet, very nice.
18:29I like you too, sister.
18:30How is everybody?
18:34Hi.
18:35You two look really stressed out if you ask me.
18:38Well, we're still constructing a lot.
18:41Do you have a timeline?
18:42We want to build this by midnight tonight.
18:44Yeah.
18:45What's the status of the second look?
18:46We're thinking of doing a long sleeve, but if we don't have time to finish the whole thing, we'll just do our best.
18:51Keep it simple.
18:52Tim is doubting the fact that we can get this finished on time, but I think when you have some fire under your ass,
18:58you sort of, where there's a will, there's a way.
19:01Ping.
19:02Jesse?
19:03Where are you in this process?
19:04For this one, we only need to stitch them together.
19:08How did this fit work?
19:09Shockingly well.
19:11Where do you stand with the second look?
19:12Basically, to a short pleated skirt, and then the top.
19:16Wow.
19:17That's the fabric?
19:18Yeah.
19:19It's like a cheap and cheerful wrapping paper.
19:21But this is very expensive fabric, and it's very...
19:24Looks cheap.
19:25All right.
19:26Don't look at me, Ping.
19:27Make it work.
19:28How's the name?
19:29Seth Aaron.
19:30Talk to me.
19:31This dress truly is couture.
19:34It's mostly hand sewing.
19:36This is our other look, and we're gonna do a blouse with some pleated detail.
19:41You have so clearly identified that it's coming from Jesus and Amy.
19:45Right.
19:46I say you have the freedom to do whatever you want to the top.
19:48Well, Papa here has already made an asymmetric top.
19:53And for whatever reason, he's decided to abandon it.
19:56I didn't abandon it.
19:57If it's on the floor, you abandon it.
19:59Stop acting up in front of company.
20:02Now come on.
20:03Hi, Mila.
20:04Hi.
20:05Jonathan.
20:06Hi.
20:07Tell me where you are in this process.
20:09Well, we fit this on our model, and we just need some finishing.
20:14I think it's beautifully done, and I know what this is.
20:17This is Anthony and Seth Aaron.
20:18Yes.
20:19All right.
20:20Well, that's a good thing that I know what it is.
20:21That's a good thing that you knew.
20:22Yeah.
20:23All right, designers.
20:24Work, work, work.
20:25All of you.
20:27Damn.
20:28It's a mess.
20:30I got the dress pretty much together.
20:33I'm just gonna let Ping work on these other elements to get her out of the way.
20:37And I'll just basically, you know, bust my ass to make this happen.
20:41Okay.
20:47Are you prepared for today?
20:54I'm stack packed and ready to attack.
20:57Jonathan is feeling it right now.
20:59Oh, Jonathan's feeling the pain.
21:01Yeah.
21:02Mila's only done the jacket.
21:03Period.
21:04For two days.
21:05Runway day is going to be a busy day.
21:08Mila's time management issues are concerning to me.
21:12I have not had a challenge yet where I've left the room and not had a finished garment.
21:16So, I'm so nervous.
21:19I want a coffee.
21:20It's so nice.
21:21What?
21:22You look so nice together.
21:24You look like we're going to a funeral.
21:26The death of our hopes and dreams.
21:28All right.
21:29Let's do this.
21:38This is beautiful, dude.
21:40The Anthony and Seth Aaron dress great concept, hideous execution.
21:45Anthony spent too much time decorating and not enough time figuring out proper construction.
21:52I want to do the best that I can do and I really want to win.
21:59Jay, who's kind of slacking a little bit.
22:02It's making me a little frustrated that he's leaning on his immunity.
22:05I was also thinking we should redo that dress a little bit maybe.
22:10Do we have time?
22:11I feel Jesse is much more concerned about his own safety during this competition than the teamwork quality.
22:20My insecurity about this is that, you know, if they ask who made everything, it's like you made everything with a coat pretty much.
22:29Mila took everything that might have been outside of her realm and put it on me just in case it backfired.
22:34I know how badly Mila wants to be here and I do think she would sell me out on the runway.
22:38I also know that I would sell her own.
22:40Well, honestly, I mean there are other teams where something similar happened.
22:43Okay.
22:44Do you know what I'm telling you?
22:45Where like one person's more in charge of like sewing and...
22:48Well, no, I mean I don't want to seem like a seamstress.
22:51Exactly.
22:52This whole outfit was such a vision of mine.
22:58Good morning, Tim.
22:59Good morning, everybody. How are you?
23:00Good.
23:01Good.
23:02Designers, it is a big day.
23:04It's your first team challenge judging.
23:07So each team will have an hour to send their models to the Garnier Hair Salon and the L'Oreal Paris makeup room, alright?
23:13Alright.
23:14Alright.
23:15I trust that you have studied the bluefly.com wall and that you're using it very thoughtfully.
23:19I'm sending in your models, so let's do it.
23:22Yeah!
23:23Alright.
23:24I'll see you a little later.
23:26Alright.
23:27You're going second, you're going first.
23:28Oh, oh, what's the clock?
23:30I'm a little concerned for Jessie and Ping only because they've been bickering a lot.
23:35Ping, what do you think of doing this button right in the center?
23:37Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
23:39I think their look for less doesn't really resemble Emilio and Anna's look.
23:43They kind of missed the mark on that one.
23:45Make sure that this doesn't poof up too much.
23:47Amy and I are really, really happy about what we have created.
23:52I cannot be in the bottom two anymore.
23:55Did you already consult makeup?
23:58It's time for makeup.
24:02Just keep it really fun and really fresh and young.
24:04Smokey eye.
24:05And a pale skin.
24:06The skin.
24:10We want sort of like a real sweet thing.
24:16Very springy.
24:17Classic.
24:18Just three minutes, guys.
24:23Designers and models, you have 10 minutes before we go down to the runway, all right?
24:32Do you like it?
24:33Does it feel OK?
24:34Absolutely.
24:35Let's go.
24:36Time is running out and it's not easy to make a grand dress in a day and a half.
24:41I did the best I could.
24:43When the model put on the signature look, I think it's beautiful.
24:53Designers and models, this is it.
24:56We're going down to the runway right now.
24:58Is there anyone listening to me?
25:00Yes.
25:01Come, come.
25:02Let's go, aunt.
25:03Let's go.
25:04We're leading to where?
25:05Down for the runway show.
25:06Are you sure?
25:07At this point, safe is a victory for me.
25:08So that's my goal.
25:09And it sucks to shoot that low.
25:10But ultimately, middle, safe is all I want.
25:13Jay, Jonathan, Jessie, Ping.
25:16Ping.
25:17Yes.
25:18Welcome to the runway.
25:19As you know in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day, you're out.
25:41For this challenge, you worked in teams.
25:44For this challenge, you worked in teams.
25:47Your first assignment was to create a high-end signature look.
25:52Then we gave you a little twist.
25:54We asked you to create a second look
25:56that was a more affordable design for $50.
25:59You were asked to use another team's signature look for inspiration,
26:03but you were not to copy it.
26:05All right, let's meet the judges.
26:07First, we have top American designer Michael Kores.
26:10Hey, guys.
26:11Fashion director for Marie Claire magazine, Nina Garcia.
26:15Hi, everyone.
26:17And acclaimed British designer, Matthew Williamson.
26:20Welcome.
26:23We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
26:26One of you will be named the winner,
26:28and one or more of you will be out.
26:33All right, let's start the show.
26:37The gown is everything I needed it to be.
26:40The dress is beautiful, and it speaks greatly to who I am
26:44and what I celebrate, and that's classic elegance and beauty.
26:51Amy and I were both really, really happy about what we had created.
26:56It looks really high fashion.
26:58It looks modern, and Holly looks amazing in it.
27:00I feel so confident about the signature look.
27:05I am absolutely thrilled with the way it turned out.
27:09I feel like this was the first challenge in which I could truly express my point of view.
27:14It looked amazing.
27:18As I see my signature look walk down the runway, I am so satisfied.
27:22It's well made, and I think Brittany looks really great up there.
27:29The dress fits like a glove.
27:31We could have been more innovative, but I'm working with someone who has very limited experience,
27:35so I had to scale down just to make sure that we had a garment on the runway.
27:42This dress definitely expresses my voice as a designer because it's a little bit futuristic,
27:47but yet it has sort of an old classic Hollywood style to it.
27:51It's kind of one of those dresses where you either think it's really cool or you think it's really weird,
27:56so it was a leaky face for me.
28:02The signature look, it's beautiful.
28:06It's more beautiful than I ever thought.
28:11I think it's very elegant.
28:12So the look for less is a great look.
28:20It's a really good interpretation of peeing in Jessie's outfit.
28:24So I'm excited to see what the judges think.
28:29Our look for less was well done.
28:31You know, 50 bucks in a few hours, we did a pretty good job.
28:34But looking at the judges, I'm not sure if they're liking it, hating it, wanting to burn it.
28:39I have no idea.
28:42Our second look is definitely the scaled down version of the signature look that we were inspired by.
28:51We asked Monique to be bouncy and flirty.
28:53That's exactly what she gave us, fun and flirty.
28:58We're both, you know, extremely proud of the look for less.
29:01Even though it's not our particular look, it's still our work, and it's very cool.
29:07The look for less, I'm really confident in.
29:09It looks really sellable.
29:11It's youthful.
29:12It's really a reflection of me.
29:18I like the outfit.
29:19The skirt fits, the top fits, and the vest is really cute.
29:23I feel like we've both represented our design aesthetic.
29:26I think our second look is not as strong as it could be.
29:32It's not how I would represent myself if I had the choice.
29:35If I call your name, please step forward.
29:44Janine and Ben.
29:45Jesus and Amy.
29:47Emilio and Anna, please step forward.
29:51If I have called your name, congratulations.
29:54Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge.
29:58You can leave the runway.
30:02The eight of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
30:06One of you will be named the winner, and one or more of you will be out.
30:11Anthony, Seth Aaron, Ping, and Jessie.
30:18Your teams have the lowest scores.
30:21We're going to talk with the teams of the highest scores first,
30:25and then we bring it back out.
30:27You can leave the runway.
30:31Let's bring out your models.
30:32Jay, you have immunity this week, so did you kind of slack a little bit this week?
30:42The immunity did not mean anything to me.
30:45Good.
30:46Please tell us first about your signature look.
30:48I wanted to make something that looked like it could be in a museum,
30:51something that a collector would want to have.
30:54It's unique, dramatic.
30:55I think it's really striking.
30:57I particularly like this very bare side,
31:00where you cut it very thin.
31:02Feels very modern.
31:03Let's bring out the look that inspired your look for less.
31:06We've really just played with a lot of, like, the lines and the curves
31:09and just combining those, you know, two things together.
31:13The whole thing costs $46.
31:16$46.
31:17And that was $500.
31:19Yeah.
31:20This is more interesting, has more work, more dimension in it than that.
31:25Your $46 blows the $500 out of the water.
31:29Mila, Jonathan, please tell us first about your signature look.
31:34Well, the concept here was to create an evening ensemble that was fun, yet still elegant.
31:40For me, you guys sold me absolutely on the signature look.
31:43I think that suit looks amazing. I would love to have that.
31:46And I can see you in it.
31:48Lorena, can we see it from the back?
31:50I think it's kind of a sportswear-inspired. It's very clean and graphic.
31:54The coat looks fabulous.
31:56I really love this look.
32:00Let's bring out the look that inspired your look for less.
32:03We were inspired by Seth, Aaron, and Anthony.
32:05We took their gown into a juniors kind of place.
32:09First off, any editor would be like a baby doll dress. Forget it.
32:13It could have been something very, very modern and simple, and it would have still been your interpretation of that.
32:20And it would have probably been a lot stronger.
32:22We did throw around the idea of a trapeze, and I think we probably should have gone with our instinct.
32:26The most important thing as a designer is your instinct. Listen to your gut.
32:31But kudos, I love the coat, and I'm happy to see some separates.
32:35My God, this is how people dress. There's logic.
32:40Okay, we've heard what you had to say. Can you leave the runway? Thank you.
32:46Okay, let's bring out the designers with the lowest scores.
32:51Ping, Jessie, would you please tell us first about your signature look?
32:54When we went to the museum and saw all those very famous clothes, I'm thinking I need to design something that's basically timeless.
33:03Can I just see what happens when she doesn't hold it? It's a tail, basically.
33:08I just feel like this is just a bunch of fabric wrapped around a model.
33:13She's got to stand like the Statue of Liberty to wear this dress.
33:17She looks like she had her little lace negligee on, and you were working on her draping some fabric,
33:23and suddenly a bell went off and she ran out with the draping fabric.
33:28Let's bring out the look that inspired you.
33:31I designed the top. Jessie designed the skirt.
33:35I don't think anyone designed anything.
33:36I think the only thing that it has in common with the original outfit is that it's got some grey in it.
33:44It's just an ill-fitting, blah dress.
33:47Who did most of the sewing?
33:49I sewed both of the dresses.
33:51Because I had to teach sewing lessons while we were working.
33:55You had to teach sewing lessons to Ping?
33:57Yes.
33:59That's what he meant.
34:01Megan is dying to say something.
34:03Megan.
34:04She never fit me in this.
34:06So she never really looked at you in the dress?
34:08Never.
34:09Well, it shows.
34:12Let's move on.
34:14Anthony, Seth Aaron.
34:15We really love the classic Dior silhouette.
34:18So that was our foundation for this gown.
34:22It looks like I'm at the cotillion party in the south from hell.
34:27Because this is so costumey, this gown.
34:32I mean, she's in Gone with the Wind.
34:34What would you have done to have made it more modern and more forward-thinking?
34:39We can't design it for you.
34:41It's how you translate your inspiration into your aesthetic.
34:46Let's bring out the look that inspired you.
34:49Okay, explain your look for less, please.
34:52We were spending too much time trying to figure out how we were going to do the top.
34:55Yeah, we need to simplify and move forward.
34:58That is how much you stand behind your outfit.
35:00We just had to do something because we were running out of time.
35:03It looks like kind of an acetate cocktail dress on the cheap dress floor.
35:09And you look at the inspiration, you know, you could have...
35:12It's beautiful.
35:13So it could have had a little bit more see-throughness, show a little bit more skin maybe.
35:17And that's my fault.
35:18They're both really ugly.
35:22Too much and too much looking back as opposed to looking forward.
35:28And I'm surprised that Seth, you didn't step in.
35:30I did respect.
35:31He was the leader.
35:32But it was 50-50.
35:34And this is what we ended up with.
35:37And I'm going to stand behind it.
35:38We've heard what you had to say.
35:39We're going to have a little chat.
35:42And then I bring it back out.
35:43You can leave the runway.
35:50Let's start with Jay and Maya.
35:53I love the look for less.
35:54It was one of the few outfits, I think, that you could take off that runway.
35:58She looked, you know, like lots of girls would want to look like.
36:02They actually, for $46, turned out something that looked chic, had edge to it, and was wearable.
36:08It was all of the above.
36:10And they managed to do it very, very nicely.
36:15Also, designers that we did like was Mila and Jonathan.
36:17I thought the coat was really exciting, and it had a real signature to it.
36:23It was unique to my eye. It looked like it stood out from the crowd.
36:27And it was made beautifully.
36:29Well, I like the idea that she didn't make a dress.
36:32And it has Mila's signature on it.
36:34It's very her.
36:36Let's talk about Pink's dress.
36:39It was a confusing, labored cacophony of ideas.
36:43What I don't appreciate is that she did not pay any attention whatsoever to the look for less.
36:48But she spends more time with the signature piece.
36:51Doesn't even fit the other dress.
36:52Doesn't even fit the other dress.
36:53Let's talk about Anthony and Seth Aaron.
36:58I feel they were too literal in their inspiration.
37:02I don't know if it was clear in their minds that it was about going to the museum.
37:07Being inspired, but then making a fashionable dress for today.
37:11It looks costumey.
37:13Needs to go back in the museum.
37:16Okay, so we've made our decision.
37:20Right, let's bring them back out then.
37:23Your teams had the highest and the lowest scores.
37:35One of you will be named the winner.
37:38And one or more of you...
37:41...will be out.
37:50One of you will be named the winner.
37:51And one or more of you...
37:54...will be out.
37:56Jonathan...
37:58You're in. You can leave the runway.
38:04Mida...
38:06Your signature look was exciting and modern.
38:09We're glad that you thought about something other than a gown.
38:13Congratulations. You're the winner of this challenge.
38:16You also have immunity for the next challenge and cannot be eliminated.
38:25Yes.
38:26You can leave the runway. Thank you.
38:28Oh, it feels amazing to win this challenge.
38:30I won!
38:32I won! I won! I won! I won! I won! I won!
38:35This challenge was really important to me because the signature look was so true to who I am as a designer.
38:44It just really means a lot to me.
38:46Maya, you're in. You can leave the runway.
38:51Jay, you're in. You can leave the runway.
38:56You have the lowest scores.
38:58And one of you...
38:59...or maybe two...
39:00...will be out.
39:02Anthony and Seth Aaron.
39:05Instead of giving us forward-looking, you gave us costumey, old-fashioned.
39:11And your look for less was poorly made and really unflattering.
39:17Ping and Jesse.
39:19Your look for less was under-designed, ill-fitting, and a major snooze.
39:24On the other hand, your signature look was overworked and literally had to be held up by your model.
39:31It was a mess.
39:37Seth Aaron, you're in. You can leave the runway.
39:39Thank you so much.
39:44Jesse, you're in. You can leave the runway.
39:56Anthony.
40:01You're in.
40:02You're in.
40:03Yeah.
40:04You can leave the runway.
40:05I'm sorry, Ping. That means you're out.
40:09I'm sorry, Ping. That means you're out.
40:11I came here to learn and to see what I can do, and I truly feel that I did amazing
40:38job. I even surprised myself. I would like you to remember everything, not the crying
40:44thing, even though I cried a lot. Whether I win or not, it's really not my priority.
40:52The journey continues. I have to send you to the workroom to clean up your space, and
40:58I cannot imagine that workroom without you. I'm proud of myself. This will be an unforgettable
41:05experience in my entire life.
