00:01Previously on Project Runway...
00:03Designers, for this challenge, we're sending you out into the city.
00:07You will be working in teams of two.
00:11Jay, you're working with Mila.
00:12Wow.
00:17Ew.
00:18Welcome to Harlem, baby.
00:19Amy's style in Upper East Side might be a little bit of a clash.
00:23I just have to get over the fact that I don't like her.
00:26Jay hasn't even started a tank top yet.
00:28I have about a million pleats to make.
00:30Oh, shoot.
00:32We're .
00:38Emilio, congratulations.
00:40You are the winner of this challenge.
00:42Seth Aaron, you are also the winner of this challenge.
00:45Yes!
00:46Amy, you're out.
00:48Which model will be in?
00:50I'm gonna stay with Brittany.
00:53I'm sorry, Holly, that means you're out.
00:57This is Project Runway.
00:59Yes!
01:00I am fashion.
01:01Look at me.
01:02It's cut or be cut.
01:03Just make it work.
01:04Great clothes.
01:05Great style.
01:06Three finalists will make it to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
01:09Well, I won't do anything to win.
01:11I will.
01:12But only one can be the winner.
01:14My weapon of choice.
01:16For these 16 designers, Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
01:20The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine.
01:24An opportunity to sell their line on bluefly.com.
01:27A $50,000 technology suite to create, design and run their business from HP and Intel.
01:33And $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to launch their line.
01:37Losing Amy was really tough.
01:52The only thing that's saving me from being completely overwrought by this is that she's
01:59so strong.
02:00So, it's game on from this point forward.
02:02Everybody know what my black sunglasses are.
02:05I am closer to Bryan Park than I think most people probably ever expected me to get in
02:10this competition.
02:12But my eye and my focus is still on the prize.
02:16I'm a little jealous that, you know, Seth Aaron and Amelia won the challenge.
02:24I'm one of two girls, and I'm the youngest one.
02:27You know, it's definitely scary now that there's only a few of us left.
02:31Let's go.
02:32All right.
02:33Let's go.
02:34I won yesterday, but I'm normal today.
02:36You're normal.
02:37I'm normal.
02:38Hello.
02:39Hi.
02:40Now there are only seven of you left.
02:54So, for your next challenge, we want you to take your creativity to the next level.
02:58Let's just say the next challenge will involve more than just choosing your fabric.
03:03What does that mean?
03:04Are we going to get a couple pocket elves to help us sew?
03:05I mean, what is it?
03:06Good morning, designers.
03:07Good morning.
03:08Good morning.
03:09I am thrilled to introduce Vivian Tam.
03:10I'm so excited to be here.
03:19Yeah.
03:21Yeah.
03:23Yeah.
03:25Yeah.
03:26Yeah.
03:27Yeah.
03:28Yeah.
03:29Yeah.
03:30Yeah.
03:31Yeah.
03:32Vivian is a designer who understands how to marry the art of fashion with the science
03:36of technology.
03:37You're going to be doing something that every fashion designer dreams about, but seldom
03:42realizes.
03:43You're going to be designing, creating your own textile to serve as the core of the design
03:51that you developed for this challenge.
03:52Wow.
03:53Yes.
03:54Exciting.
03:55Very exciting.
03:56I am so excited about creating fabric, and I'm completely confident that I'm going
04:00to be able to really create something that's me.
04:03You've all been using your HP TouchSmart notebooks.
04:05Now you're going to carry it over into a TouchSmart all-in-one desktop to design your textile.
04:12And that textile will be digitally printed for you.
04:15Working with HP, they make the computer more personal.
04:17Today, the challenge is all about fashion myth technology.
04:21My vision started with this beautiful butterfly, and it turned into this beautiful fabric.
04:26My prints are my inspiration.
04:29Now it's your turn to make your designs.
04:32HP and Intel are proud to bring you the technology.
04:35Now you have to supply the vision.
04:37So designers, you will have an hour to develop your design, and your design will be manufactured
04:44by Dynamics.
04:45So you will receive it tomorrow morning.
04:47It's so challenging, huh?
04:49Yeah.
04:50So you have two days for this challenge.
04:53We will be going to Mood, where you will buy supplementary fabric.
04:57And then today, you can prototype in muslin.
04:59And Vivian, we have you and HP and Intel to thank.
05:02So thank you so much.
05:03I'm looking forward to seeing your prints.
05:04So we're going to let you design.
05:05I'm so excited about this because I've never designed my own fabric.
05:11It's amazing.
05:13Absolutely amazing.
05:15I've never made my own fabric before.
05:17It's exciting, but at the same time, it's challenging and nerve wracking.
05:22Prints don't typically work for Anthony, so this is just a challenge.
05:26However, I'm trying to remain focused because ultimately, we have like an hour to design a
05:31textile and print it out.
05:32So here we go.
05:35My idea is to create something that emulates giant drips of paint on a canvas.
05:43I am using a paintbrush to create my design and it truly feels like I'm painting.
05:48I've chosen to use a technique to create my pattern that's actually subtractive.
05:53It's kind of scrolling, organic, very painterly.
05:57This is fun.
05:58I want one of these.
05:59I want one of these.
06:00I wouldn't need a TV anymore.
06:02As a designer, I think branding is what we want to do.
06:06So I chose to do a graffiti print with my initials.
06:10Ryan Park.
06:11Here we go.
06:12Do we have time to print so I can see what it may look like?
06:14All you have to do is press print.
06:16Oh.
06:17And it'll automatically just go.
06:18I want to show the judges that I can use color and I am using black again but I'm using red
06:33and a little bit of bright orange in this palette.
06:37All right, designers.
06:40This is very exciting.
06:41We're sending off your fabric to be manufactured and we're heading off to move to get supplemental
06:46fabric.
06:47All right?
06:48So come with me.
06:50All right, designers.
06:54You have $100 and 20 minutes.
06:57So surely after all this designing of the textile, you know what you're doing.
07:01I see looks of fear.
07:04Your 20 minutes starts now.
07:14I design five to ten sketches really quickly and then I look for fabric.
07:18The fabric that I find that best suits the design is what I go with.
07:22Girl, this looks like algebra.
07:28Give me an eighth of that.
07:29Okay.
07:30All right.
07:31All right.
07:32All right.
07:33That's it.
07:34Time, everyone.
07:35You need to be at the counter ready to pay.
07:36I'm like running like crazy.
07:37Oh my God.
07:38I can't wait.
07:39Thanks.
07:40Woo.
07:41Off we go.
07:44Come on, everyone.
07:45Let's go back to Parsons.
07:49I'm doing three pieces.
08:04A jacket, a skirt, and a top.
08:06With the more time, the judges are gonna want to see more work.
08:10My plan of attack is to first start drafting and designing a strapless dress with a V neck.
08:17I'm also using a giant piece of the print on one entire side of the dress.
08:23Jonathan, hi.
08:24I'm sunshine.
08:25Oh my God.
08:26That's the brightest yellow I've seen in my life.
08:28It's so bright, isn't it?
08:29Mila.
08:30There's just a lot of things wrong with the fabric that she designed.
08:35I think that like when we were children, we played with Legos.
08:38I don't want to wear Legos.
08:39I just want to play with them.
08:41I'm just hoping.
08:42What is your print look like?
08:43Can I look at it?
08:44Well, this is it.
08:45But it's actually.
08:46Where is it?
08:47It was so transparent.
08:48It has to be printed.
08:49Oh, this is it.
08:50My print was so light that when I printed a mock-up of it, I actually couldn't even see
08:55what it looked like.
08:56So I'm worried that that could jeopardize my original vision.
09:00What are you making?
09:01A jacket.
09:02A little foreign ass out of myself.
09:04I figured I'd try something new this time around.
09:09Anthony's trying separates again.
09:12In this challenge, I'm thinking about doing separates simply because I'm trying to create
09:17a more edgy look for myself, but already I'm feeling a little iffy about it.
09:23Lord, I'm gonna pray now for this jacket.
09:26Cause I've never made one L in my life.
09:29Okay, I'm gonna run with it.
09:32But I'm fighting my viscera.
09:35So I started draping a blue leather, like, bustier.
09:40And then when I had it all completed, I put it on the dress form and I hate it.
09:43Do it this way.
09:44If it was somebody else's garment coming down the runway, what would you say about it?
09:49It's now or never.
09:50I'm not gonna have a second chance if I don't do this right.
09:53Okay.
09:54Okay.
09:55Think.
09:56Think.
09:57Think.
09:58Think.
09:59Think.
10:00Think.
10:01Think.
10:02Think.
10:03Think.
10:04Think.
10:05Think.
10:06Think.
10:07Think.
10:08Think ¡D Forson Balúcle.
10:10Okay.
10:11My viscera tells me to abandon the blue.
10:14Leather bustier.
10:15No honey, trust your guessed.
10:17You don't like the blue?
10:18I don't like the blue.
10:19I'm not crazy about the blue.
10:20It's not talking to me.
10:22As a designer, I think I have the right
10:24or just the preference to change directions
10:26any time I feel like it.
10:27So I just took it apart and started over again.
10:32Maya, you must be dying something.
10:33Dying something? No.
10:35I'm having some difficulty with the print challenge
10:38because I don't normally work with prints.
10:40I think I might be in trouble this time.
10:43You know, I blame Beyonce for everything
10:46that go wrong in my life.
10:48It's something about her song
10:50that will make you think, first of all,
10:52that you are a size four,
10:54that you can conquer the world,
10:56and that, I don't know, you are all powerful.
10:59Do you think Beyonce has a song
11:01for the people who can't find jobs?
11:03Or the interview that you didn't do so well in?
11:05Do she sing any songs about that?
11:07I think everyone loves Anthony.
11:10I don't even think he tries to be funny.
11:14I love that about him.
11:15I wouldn't like Oprah,
11:17because out of all the days she could book me for her show,
11:19she booked me for the show,
11:20where she gonna be screaming,
11:21you'll get a car, you'll get a car, you'll get a car.
11:24Oprah don't book me on the,
11:26my husband has a porn addiction.
11:28No, Oprah, I don't want to be on that show
11:31because my uncle Leroy got that same problem.
11:33I do not purposely try to be entertaining in the workroom.
11:37Even when I'm like pouring out my heart
11:39and like being like somber and all that,
11:41people still laugh at me for some reason.
11:43Ah!
11:44What?
11:51I can't wait to see my fabric.
11:54You know, if the colors are off,
11:55it's gonna look like crap.
11:57I feel great leaving the workroom tonight.
11:59Myself and all the designers included
12:01are so excited to see our printed fabrics.
12:03Now we can leave.
12:05Woo!
12:13Hello?
12:14Hey, how are you?
12:16Happy birthday.
12:17Thanks.
12:18So how's the puppy?
12:19I think so fine.
12:20If I sit and think about how much I miss my family,
12:24it will affect why I'm here.
12:28I'm here to win Project Runway season seven.
12:31OK, I'll call you again, baby.
12:33OK, I love you.
12:35Love you, too.
12:35Bye.
12:42Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.
12:43Oh, my God.
12:47Oh, my God.
12:49All of us walk into the workroom,
12:51and our textiles are ready for us.
12:54Now we're watching our beautiful creations unfold.
12:57Ah, I love it.
12:59We made our own fabric.
13:00Oh, my God.
13:02I love you, and I don't even know you yet.
13:05Oh.
13:07Oh, my God.
13:08Wow.
13:10I open my roll, and it's beautiful.
13:12It's the most beautiful grayish blue.
13:14There's this beautiful oil spot effect kind of going on,
13:18and the sheer layers are.
13:20It's just really gorgeous fabric.
13:21Wow, it's so vivid.
13:23Yeah, the color's so great.
13:24Did you want it to be this vivid?
13:25Yeah.
13:26Oh, my God.
13:27Can we make out with our fabric?
13:28I'm like a mother looking at her bag.
13:29This is amazing.
13:31S-A-E-S-O-S.
13:35E-S-O-S-A.
13:38OK, I don't get it.
13:39E-Sosa.
13:41E-Sosa.
13:42Emilio Sosa.
13:43Oh, got it.
13:44E-Sosa.
13:44Sorry, it's early still.
13:46Damn, Mercedes.
13:47I think Emilio's print is probably one of the worst in the room.
13:53Emilio is good at fitting things, but I feel like his taste is
13:58questionable.
13:59I am so freaking stoked on this.
14:03My fabric looks freaking amazing.
14:05So I think I have a very, very powerful look in front of me.
14:08Yours looks like he's coming along beautiful.
14:12I like the print.
14:14I'm just having a hard time with-
14:17The dream?
14:18Well, I just don't know how me it is.
14:20I'm kind of, you know, wondering what I should do.
14:23This isn't really a challenge where I can be very sculptural.
14:26So I'm really trying to put something together that
14:29represents me.
14:34All right, designers.
14:35I'm eager to see the outcomes of your custom textiles.
14:40So I'm just here to check in with all of you.
14:41And Milo, I want to start with you.
14:43Okay, great.
14:44I'm so happy with the way it turned out.
14:46I know it looks kind of evening, but the twill makes it feel,
14:50you know, more daytime to me.
14:52So you want it to read evening?
14:53I don't want it to read evening.
14:54But isn't it the length, sort of by definition?
14:56Well, yeah, but I just thought it was like, you know,
14:58maxi dress kind of for a spring event kind of thing.
15:02All right.
15:02All right, well, I'll just-
15:04Carry on.
15:05Carry on.
15:06Thanks, Milo.
15:07Thank you, TG.
15:08I did a three-piece suite.
15:09I see it as being early spring.
15:11So I'm doing a lightweight leather jacket.
15:14It's a wrap jacket.
15:15She'll have a prim, little fitted dress with a blouse.
15:19My one concern, the proportion of this to this.
15:24Too much here.
15:24Just look at that when it's on her.
15:26Yeah.
15:27Thank you, Tim.
15:29This is my textile, which is a graphic.
15:32What is it supposed to say?
15:34Uh, it says E Sosa.
15:37And S-A is Seth Aaron?
15:38Seth Aaron.
15:39Emilio Sosa, S-O-S-A.
15:42I see.
15:43Seth Aaron Emilio Sosa.
15:45Oh, I didn't see that.
15:46That's all I see.
15:48Well, I don't see that.
15:50Emilio Sosa, S-O-S-A.
15:52I see.
15:54Wow.
15:55All right.
15:56I have to recalibrate my thinking, because that's not
15:58what I see at all.
15:59So basically what I wanted to create was a 1940 silhouette
16:03combined with, like, a graffiti print.
16:05That's why I did the text.
16:07I wanted the print to be the thing.
16:10And that is what it is, because if you take the print away,
16:13it's a pretty basic silhouette.
16:15Well, I would say it's a classic silhouette.
16:17Tim Gunn comes in, and automatically, he mocks it.
16:19And I'm like, OK, great, Tim.
16:23But you know what?
16:24I do not listen to Tim, whether he likes it or not.
16:27Tell Seth Aaron, this is my sketch.
16:29When creating my textile, I went for a British pop punk feel.
16:33Do I say it?
16:34Oh, absolutely.
16:35It printed wonderfully.
16:36The tiles are a little larger than I thought they would be.
16:39This is fantastic.
16:43This needs to be just as good.
16:46All right.
16:47All right.
16:47Thank you, Seth Aaron.
16:49So for this challenge, it's a little bit of a challenge for me,
16:55because I'm not really a print type person.
16:57Really?
16:58You'd fool me.
16:59I mean, I'm trying to make it as me as possible,
17:02but I kind of had a block on this challenge, to be honest.
17:05I'm trying to work it out.
17:06Unblock.
17:06I know.
17:07Unblock.
17:07Someone's going home.
17:08You don't want it to be you.
17:09I know.
17:10I'll figure it out.
17:12OK, thank you.
17:13Thank you so much.
17:15So talk to me about what you're designing.
17:18What I'm designing is just celebrating the lines that are in the pattern without being
17:23so literal, like showing them in the skirt and showing a little detailing in the bodice.
17:28I'm concerned that the judges may say to you that you weren't ambitious enough.
17:33So, work away.
17:34Well, thank you, Tim.
17:35Thank you, Anthony.
17:36All right, designers.
17:37So you have until midnight tonight.
17:38All right.
17:39I'll see you tomorrow.
17:42That is so cool.
17:43It's perfect.
17:44Good.
17:45I hope they don't see that I got wet right there.
17:48A lot of designers never get the chance to design their own fabric.
17:55No.
17:56Carrie tries on the blouse.
17:57We get the dress on her.
17:58It's great.
17:59There's minor alterations to it.
18:00But overall, the look looks fantastic on her.
18:03You know, I'm completely convinced that I've got a really great look on my hands.
18:06This is, like, getting so hard.
18:10Just, like, most of my work, I like to be dimensional and prints are, like, so flat.
18:15It was hard in the beginning, but I feel like it's harder now.
18:18And I really want to win a challenge.
18:20That's, like, all I'm focusing on.
18:23I don't want to be safe.
18:24I don't want to be in the top and not win.
18:26I want to win a challenge.
18:29Mila and her white teepee of a dress I'm baffled by.
18:34How can someone call themselves a designer and not be able to work in color?
18:39I'm very confident in my color and fabric choices.
18:43It's definitely taking a risk, but I feel like at this point in the competition,
18:47I have to take risks and I have to listen to what the judges are saying.
18:57Anthony, how is your fitting?
18:58I'm trying to figure out if I want to keep working with this bodice or abort.
19:03Anthony's taste is questionable sometimes.
19:05I mean, he's a joy to have around.
19:07I'll be sad to see him go if he does before me, but I just can't imagine him making a collection for Bryant Park.
19:14Bidaboom. Bidaboom.
19:16So runway's tomorrow, and I feel good.
19:19I know it's totally me.
19:20Obviously, I created the fabric.
19:22How's it going?
19:23Oh, it's going, Maya.
19:25The bodice, it's just too big.
19:27It's large, and I just think that it's going to be really cumbersome to try to work through these alterations.
19:33I basically scrapped my first top.
19:35The fit wasn't incredible, and it was one of those, do I keep working on this top, or do I go to something I know I can make fit and look fabulous?
19:43It's given me quite a conundrum trying to work through my reality and what may happen tomorrow.
19:50What did I do to do therapy?
20:05Whew, so tired.
20:08I didn't sleep last night.
20:10Really?
20:11I'm feeling so exhausted this morning.
20:13This is definitely not the easiest challenge for me.
20:16It just feels a lot more intense than it has so far.
20:19You look like a gay Christmas ornament.
20:23Why'd you say that?
20:24Yeah, now he's going to want to change.
20:26No, you look beautiful.
20:27I'm sorry.
20:28Babe, I'm sorry.
20:29Babe.
20:30Babe.
20:31It's going to be a nice runway show today.
20:33I feel so strong about my fabric and my design, but you never know how the runway is actually going to go, because in Project Runwayland, anything can happen.
20:43Are we leaving?
20:44I'm going to change my pants.
20:46I think you look hot.
20:47Oh, my God.
20:48Thanks, Anthony.
20:49Sabotage.
20:50All right, fellas.
20:51We are leaving as three.
20:52We're coming back as three.
20:53Returning as three.
20:54Three.
20:55I still think I have a great chance of going to Bryant Park.
20:59I'm trying to focus a lot on being very consistent and pushing the boundaries with my design.
21:06If I can't get sleeved on a jacket in an hour, then there's just something wrong.
21:11Wait, wait, wait, there is something wrong with me.
21:12I did a lot of pieces.
21:13I did a lot of pieces.
21:14I did a shirt, a tie, a blazer, pants.
21:16So I'm pushing it to the last second today.
21:17Anthony has a lot on his plate this morning.
21:18Right now, I'm trying to figure out what can I do to make it better.
21:19I'm trying to figure out what can I do to make it better.
21:20I'm trying to figure out what can I do to make it better.
21:21I still think I have a great chance of going to Bryant Park.
21:22I'm trying to focus a lot on being very consistent and pushing the boundaries with my design.
21:29If I can't get sleeved on a jacket in an hour, then there's just something wrong.
21:33Wait, wait, there is something wrong with me.
21:34I did a lot of pieces.
21:35I did a shirt, a tie, a blazer, pants.
21:39So I'm pushing it to the last second today.
21:43Anthony has a lot on his plate this morning.
21:45Right now, I'm trying to figure out what can I do to make my dress a little more special.
21:51Yay, turtleneck.
21:52Done.
21:53I'm definitely ready for the runway show based on the amount of work I put in last week.
21:57But you can't even tell anymore who is in trouble or who's going home.
22:02It's such a tight competition at this point.
22:06Good morning, everyone.
22:08Good morning.
22:09I'm about to send in your models.
22:11You know the drill.
22:12You'll have an hour to send them to the Garnier Hair Salon in the L'Oreal Paris Makeup Room.
22:16Use the bluefly.com wall very thoughtfully and strategically.
22:20I will be back to take you down to the runway a little later.
22:23Thank you, Tim.
22:24All right, make it work, everyone.
22:31Can I try something on you real quick?
22:35So I didn't do it just plain down and do a little kick, please tell me that.
22:38Nice.
22:39I don't really care for Jonathan's look.
22:41It's really pale.
22:42And then when you look at the colors, they're really pale.
22:45And Jonathan's really pale.
22:46And it's just like, I just want to take a bucket of paint and just throw it over on this side of the room.
22:50Because everything is pale as hell.
22:53I'm so happy with this print, too.
22:55I couldn't be happier.
22:57I think Mila is in trouble due to the fact that her dress is so stiff and that Brandeis can't walk.
23:04Oh, I think it's so cool.
23:05Yeah, I like the hair like that.
23:06Oh, I like it.
23:07Okay.
23:08And let's go down to hair and makeup.
23:14And a little bit of black smoky at the top, not at the bottom, no.
23:17Really dark.
23:18No colors.
23:19I just want to hear it pulled back in upon the tail and blunt.
23:30Structured to the side.
23:34Designers, in 10 minutes, we are all going down to the runway.
23:4110 minutes.
23:43I think it's cool.
23:44I think it's cool.
23:45I think it looks great on you.
23:46I love the way the dress came out.
23:47I think it's totally me.
23:48But it's going to be a real matter of taste this time.
23:49So we'll see what the judges think.
23:50Go to Jay and Brittany.
24:03There's nothing else in that room that can top this.
24:09The print is smart, is bold.
24:12I feel good.
24:13I love the way that it's loose.
24:15Because it is a day look, so.
24:17I don't want to go home.
24:19My biggest fear is getting so close that I can see Bryant Park out of the corner of my eye and then losing it.
24:27Designers and models, we're off to the runway.
24:30Right here.
24:31Right here.
24:32Right here.
24:40Thank you, everyone.
24:41Welcome to the runway.
24:52As you know, in fashion, one day you're in.
24:54And the next day, you're out.
24:56You're out.
24:57For this challenge, we gave you the tools to design your own fabric.
25:01This is a project runway first and an opportunity that a lot of designers dream of.
25:07I hope you'll wow us because now the competition is tougher than ever.
25:12Okay, let's meet the judges.
25:14First, we have top American designer, Michael Kors.
25:17Hey, guys.
25:18Hi, Michael.
25:19Hi, Michael.
25:20Fashion director for Marie Claire Magazine, Nina Garcia.
25:22Hi, Nina.
25:23Hi, everyone.
25:24And fashion designer, Vivian Tam.
25:27Hi.
25:29We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
25:32One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
25:37Let's start the show.
25:42It's pretty amazing because 24 hours ago, I was drawing this pop art on a computer screen.
25:48And now it's walking down a runway.
25:54It's crisp.
25:55It's clean.
25:56It's fully finished.
25:57And it's just everything I wanted it to be.
26:02I think my garment has definitely achieved everything I set it out to achieve.
26:09The print is soft and subtle.
26:11And the mix of the textures is really beautiful.
26:13And the colors look great on Carrie.
26:26The dress looks very electric and it looks like it's moving, which is what I wanted.
26:31It's very bold and powerful.
26:33There's the textural element and the print element.
26:36I love it.
26:45As I watch Lorena, I'm like, we got this.
26:48The print is graphic, it's bold, it's energetic.
26:52It says everything that we were challenged to do.
26:55My print is spot on.
27:01I love my dress.
27:06I love the little jacket with it.
27:08But then Brandeis has picked the dress up on the side to walk with it.
27:13And I'm really freaking out about that.
27:16But I used print in a way that no one else did.
27:28I am very proud of the look that I created for Christina.
27:32She looks polished and she looks feminine.
27:35She looks like a lady.
27:36That's everything that I try to exude as a designer.
27:49The whole look turned out the way I wanted it to be.
27:51It has this very military-inspired attitude and the fabric has this tribal feeling to it with the black and the green.
28:00J, congratulations.
28:13Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge.
28:16You can leave the runway.
28:23The six of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
28:27One of you will be named the winner.
28:29And one of you will be out.
28:32Let's bring out your models.
28:42Emilio, tell us about your print and your design.
28:46For this challenge, I wanted to showcase two of my greatest influence, which is graffiti and 1940s French fashion.
28:54So I decided to create a print using text.
28:58It says E Sosa, which is my name.
29:01And the hearts represent the O's.
29:03I have to say, I am in love with the whole outfit.
29:07The coat is just a different, unique shape.
29:10She looks very sophisticated.
29:11And then the dress underneath is stunning.
29:14You nailed it.
29:15You nailed it.
29:16I mean, you nailed it.
29:17To come up with a signature pattern and that it's abstract, how great is that?
29:23I would love to wear it, but I would love to see the heart shape in the neck or in the waist area with the black.
29:29So it ties back to the print.
29:31The unexpected juxtaposition of the 40s and the graffiti was fantastic.
29:37She looks great from head to toe.
29:39Thank you very much.
29:40Mila.
29:41Okay, I wanted to create something painterly for my print.
29:45I thought because it was such a large scale, I wanted to show a big piece of it.
29:50I worked on the strap detailing and I just made a little jacket to show some versatility in the way that it could be worn.
29:58I don't find anything intriguing about this print.
30:02It's like a Mexican Serape gay flag.
30:05And no matter how great your model is, she literally was hobbling down that runway.
30:12I love that it's finished, but this dress is definitely something that you've seen in the 70s before.
30:19It looks too stuck in time.
30:21This is not much of a print.
30:23You used it very modestly.
30:25This print, it doesn't go with this dress.
30:28It's like a mixed message.
30:31Anthony.
30:32I thought to myself, hmm, Anthony, let's try playing with color and geometric shapes to see if we can give you a little edge this time around.
30:40I wanted something that was structured, but something that was a little festive at the same time.
30:44I think there's a few things that are going on that I don't quite understand.
30:48Is the shrug, is this a shrug?
30:50Um, that's an interesting question, Nina.
30:53Nina, the initial jacket that I created, honey, she died.
30:58So in the final hour, I had to create a different piece.
31:01Like, you stop explaining.
31:02Just say it was a shrug.
31:03I didn't know.
31:04It was a shrug.
31:05You're trying to go more modern.
31:06But you still hold on to some of the things, quite honestly, that make it look very normal.
31:12The sweetheart line may be too sweet for the architectural prints.
31:15I can see your effort.
31:17But you didn't go further enough to develop it.
31:20I feel like I've seen this many times from you, this silhouette.
31:23I just would love to see something different.
31:28Seth Ann, tell us about your design.
31:31I like to draw pop art.
31:32So this is hand-drawn and represents a vibe of a young lady's face.
31:38And then I gridded it in thick windowpane.
31:41This complete look represents me 100%.
31:44What I like about you, Seth Aaron, is that you're always true to yourself.
31:48You know, the whole color combination is wild and crazy, but it works at the same time.
31:53It's impeccable.
31:54It's got personality.
31:56And each piece on its own, they're great pieces.
32:00I thought your print was very charming.
32:03And I love the fact that you did this jacket.
32:06It looks sharp.
32:07It looks very well made.
32:09Adorable.
32:11Maya.
32:12Well, for this challenge, I wanted to create a textile that had a lot of movement.
32:16And I'm really trying to pull the flat and the textural quality to combine a total architectural, sculptural look.
32:24And I really like the way it came out.
32:27I think it's very me.
32:28I think you did a brilliant job with your print.
32:31It's almost like electricity.
32:33However, you have the print, the textured panel, and then you have her hair.
32:37There's a lot going on.
32:39The coolest thing about this is that this look has this weird juxtaposition going on.
32:46She's kind of like a romantic warrior.
32:49Every way I look at the dress, I'm intrigued.
32:52In general, I do love the print.
32:54And I think that you give, like, a textural effect to your designs.
32:57It's very, very good.
32:58Give it more three-dimensional.
33:00I like it.
33:01Thank you very much.
33:02Jonathan, tell us about your fabric and your overall design.
33:06I laid layers of sheer polka dots, and when they came over the different sheer fields of color, they almost gave, like, a watercolor effect.
33:13Instead of doing it a wrap jacket in the front, I chose to turn it around and give it a different twist.
33:18And then underneath, Carrie has a double-layered silk chiffon trapeze blouse under the cocktail dress, which is completely made out of the print.
33:25The jacket, first off, is just, it's like a disco straitjacket.
33:29It doesn't make any sense.
33:31Then I get to the print, which looks like a dirty tablecloth that food just kind of randomly spilled on.
33:39To refer to it as a dirty tablecloth, I think it's just preposterous.
33:43There's nothing compelling about that print.
33:45I just can't see the emotional attachment that anyone would have.
33:50Oh, God, look at that.
33:52Your husband helps you back into your straitjacket.
33:55Oh, that's not a good thing, sweetie.
34:01This is a full-on catastrophe.
34:05That kick pleat on the back is beyond upsetting to me.
34:09It looks dirty, it looks poor, it looks soiled.
34:11The emotion that I get is sadness.
34:14I feel sad.
34:15But is sad not an emotion?
34:17I actually think there have been many clothes over the years, quite frankly, that are sad or melancholic, but in a beautiful way.
34:26But I definitely stand by my print.
34:27It's more organic.
34:29It is a different emotion than the other pieces on the stage, but I think that's okay.
34:35Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
34:37We're gonna have a little chat, and then I call you back.
34:40You can leave the runway.
34:49Let's talk about the designers that we didn't like.
34:52Let's start with Anthony.
34:53My problem with Anthony is that there is always an explanation.
34:58There's always an excuse.
34:59He always does this kind of silhouette, every time, over and over and over again.
35:04I mean, I think he just takes very basic forms, and he decorates them.
35:08Yeah.
35:09You need to be more adventurous.
35:11Let's move on to Mila.
35:13I feel she took the easy road in here.
35:14She could have given us something more creative.
35:15I mean, the poor model looked like she was walking in a striped teepee, and you know what?
35:26This is the sundress that everyone's mom wore in 1972 on a patio.
35:30Yeah.
35:31You know, there's nothing special about this dress.
35:33Let's talk about Jonathan's dress.
35:34He got very offended when he said that, you know, his print was reminding you of a dirty
35:43tablecloth.
35:44He was like...
35:45It looked poor.
35:46I think this was a total car crash today.
35:49We have told him in the past that, yes, we praise him for taking chances and being conceptual
35:54and all that, but this time around, that's what killed him here.
35:59It's too conceptual.
36:00It's too weird.
36:03Let's talk about the designers that we did like.
36:06Let's start with Seth Aaron.
36:09Talk about making clothes that look unbelievably polished on not a lot of money and not a lot
36:17of time.
36:18Seth Aaron, I feel like, is always full of ideas.
36:21Yep.
36:22He gets it.
36:23He's true to himself, thinks outside of the box.
36:26I like the print.
36:28It's whimsical.
36:31Emilio.
36:32I love his print, and I love the dress.
36:34I would love to have that dress.
36:35The slip shape and the jacket, the back drape, it's so beautiful.
36:38Yeah.
36:39Adorable.
36:40That was great.
36:41This print could work smaller, bigger, many colors, different fabrics.
36:47Doesn't matter what you would do it in.
36:49Exactly.
36:52Let's talk about Maya.
36:54The side silhouette of it, I thought, was really fabulous.
36:57I mean, when she said, I wanted to give my print movement, she totally got me, because
37:03yes, you can totally see that in her print.
37:06She makes beautiful clothes, and in terms of fabric, she probably did the nicest print.
37:10I agree.
37:11Maya's print is my favorite print today.
37:13It's flattering, easy to work with, and it's special.
37:17It's special.
37:20All right, so we've made our decision.
37:25Okay, let's bring them back out.
37:26One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
37:41One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
37:47Emilio, you are the winner of this challenge.
37:55You did a great job both with the print and the design.
37:59The final result was polished, spirited, and cool.
38:04Congratulations.
38:05You can leave the runway.
38:06Thank you very much.
38:07I win the challenge.
38:08That's cool.
38:09The third time.
38:10Three, baby.
38:11This one just showed everyone that I'm a force to be reckoned with.
38:13Seth Aaron, another great job.
38:14You're in.
38:15You can leave the runway.
38:16Thank you so much, guys.
38:17Maya, you're in.
38:18You can leave the runway.
38:19Thank you so much.
38:20It's definitely frustrating that I have been so close to having wins three times now.
38:39I was really hoping to win this challenge.
38:43Mila, you're in.
38:47You can leave the runway.
38:49Anthony, Jonathan, one of you will be out.
38:58Anthony, this was yet another simple cocktail dress.
39:02Your print was very safe.
39:04And again with the excuses.
39:06You don't need to point out your mistakes.
39:09We do see them.
39:12Jonathan, despite your protests, this look was bizarre and quite sad.
39:18We appreciate that you take risks.
39:20But this was a complete and utter misfire.
39:29Anthony.
39:34You're out.
39:37We will miss you.
39:38Thank you for everything.
39:39Jonathan, that means you're in.
39:40You can leave the runway.
39:41Jonathan, that means you're in.
39:42You can leave the runway.
39:44You're in.
39:45You're in.
39:59Hey boo! What's going on? I think that life has taught us that you don't have to have
40:10the crown to be the queen. I don't know what song to sing. Bye bye birdie? Hell I don't
40:16know. Ultimately considering where I've come from and the type of people that I grew up
40:23with never in a million years did I think I'd be in this place. Some levity. Good. Anthony I hope
40:33you are as proud of what you've achieved as I am for you. Thank you Tim for everything. I have to
40:41send you to the work room to clean up your space but I want you to think about the legacy you're
40:44going to have. You're on the cover of Mary Claire magazine. I know Tim. Y'all be good. We love you
40:53Anthony. I got eliminated today but I still have breath in my body to change my tomorrow so
40:59don't cry for Anthony honey. Matter of fact toss back one for me. I still think that greatness awaits.
41:14Stop laughing.
41:16I love you!
41:18Take me too much!
41:19I jest!
41:21Take me too much.
41:22I love you!
41:23Take me too much.
41:24You did I love you?
41:25Take me too much!
41:26Watch out for now.
41:27Take you too much!
41:28Take me toocare!
41:29Take me too much.
41:30Anti- outlined dollar bills.
41:31Montella minutes will take me just see you.
41:34TENK wenn I'm ready!
41:38Take me too much for you!
41:40Take me too.
41:41I'm ready to do one thing to pick you up.
