00:00And now to talk about the story.
00:02I hate the awful looking sprite that keeps talking to your character.
00:06He never leaves you alone.
00:08He only drags out the game and states the obvious.
00:11The premise is that the elements of nature are faded from the town.
00:14Not that you can see them, because there's still grass and water everywhere, thankfully.
00:19So you need to do padding to have elves ring the bells to bring the elemental power back.
00:24The element's idea is so cliche that aside from the bell part,
00:28it's a story that I could have come up with as a kid.
00:31Final Fantasy 1 did it.
00:34And speaking of cliche, the Harvest Goddess's power is somehow faded because people don't believe in her as much,
00:39and she needs the help of the one mortal who can see her in the sprite somehow.
00:43The Mirror Cave's bugging me from the first spring,
00:46offering to tell me about obvious stuff I already know, like farming.
00:50And about every festival that's coming up that year but the circus.
00:53And saying you know all about it doesn't stop him from giving you the relevant information anyways.
01:00He stops doing that after year one.
01:03It must be a glitch that he still tells you about the Harmony Festival annually.
01:07And you always have to go down to choose the option to tell him you know about it,
01:11just like in Tree Tranquility.
01:13When a character demands gifts in exchange for doing something for you,
01:17you need to give each type of item they ask for one at a time,
01:21to Bo to get him to do his job two different times,
01:24and allow you to get to the section of town where everything's close Thursdays.
01:29I wish I could simply talk to a person who wants some things with all those things
01:33and instantly move on because he has them all now.
01:36Luckily you can buy everything Bo asks for.
01:38A part of getting all the bells rung is getting the key to open the way to the forest.
01:44He should have gave it to me when we met.
01:48You have to equip and use the key on the forest gate to use it.
01:51You can't just press A like all the other times you have to open the gate afterwards.
01:56Where I'm just wishing the gate stayed open the whole game so you can enter the forest faster.
02:00I keep forgetting I need a hammer to enter the woods,
02:03even though the chances of needing it to progress are so slim.
02:06And I hate having to press A just to go into the forest area at all.
02:12I had to look up how to first get to the goddess,
02:14because there were wild animals in the way making me mash A through a long cutscene
02:18because I didn't know they'd be there.
02:20Too bad I couldn't simply buy the ammo whistle.
02:23Instead Dale misplaced his,
02:25and I had to talk to a bunch of other people to get it back for no reason.
02:29Magical Melody just let you go straight to the goddess spring.
02:32But at least it's easier to get to the goddess spring than tree tranquility.
02:37The whole process of ringing all the bells can be summarized as
02:40padding, guide gangets, and fetch quests.
02:44And I never had to show anything to a goddess to progress the story in the previous games.
02:48I miraculously decided to check the lighthouse early and found out I needed a duck, egg, and fish.
02:55Which warned me to get a duck early.
02:58How in the world is it that moonlight only appears between 6pm and midnight?
03:03I guess the moonlight stones are overwhelmed when sun is out.
03:07But you'd think it would be after midnight too.
03:09You have to go out of your way to collect the moonlight.
03:13You're going to be mining in that time normally.
03:16Why does it need to be gave for the yellow bell to be rung?
03:19It's just padding because you're going to collect all the moonlight for it at night.
03:23The harvest goddess really is useless because when I ask her about the bells,
03:28she doesn't tell me how to get the watery key.
03:30And why am I still shown, say, Colin's bell when I already rung it?
03:35It makes it take longer to get to the other bell options.
03:39Especially if I haven't memorized the name of a sprite whose bell are already rung.
03:44The best game designers care about the minor details too.
03:48So they get even the minor things right.
03:51There's blatant padding with the stupidity where the kid kicks the red bell for no reason,
03:56and you need a bunch of ores to get out of a chimney.
03:59One of each.
04:00Why is there a default option in a mandatory red bell ring cutscene
04:05that causes the sprite to somehow say he can't hear me
04:08and have to pick an option again?
04:11It wastes time on everyone who's just spamming A to get through the scene,
04:15wishing cutscenes were all skippable.
04:18This is just like in Tree Tranquility.
04:20Why are there two wrong options when they both get the same response?
04:26Shockingly, this is the case in every sprite cutscene like this.
04:29At first I didn't know what to do in the forest because when it got to the big area,
04:33I just got to more typical forest areas after that.
04:37A guy told me there's 12 randomly generated forest areas.
04:40My confusion was from the fact that I thought the forest was sending me back to a forest area I already went to
04:46because I played Link Between Worlds before.
04:49And you would expect the witch's house to be right after the big area if it's not out right there.
04:54It's padded out instead.
04:56The main character should have known that the frog was the witch because it's wearing a hat and it's pink.
05:02Not to mention it's inside the witch's house in a swamp.
05:05So it only took me a couple of seconds to assume it was the witch.
05:08Do I have to assume you used the wrong potion ingredients or amount of ingredients
05:12to do this by accident when trying to revive the harvest tree?
05:15I love the twist that the witch everyone's afraid of wanted to do that.
05:19The fact that the witch has to be brought back to normal so you can get the bell from her is blatant padding.
05:25Why is there a cutscene of you walking a few seconds every time you go out in the flower field
05:29where the comedian sprite's bell is at?
05:31I like that when Anissa meets you, she gives you 10 tomato seeds.
05:38And sure it does suck for the people who like Anissa that she has to be unlocked this way.
05:42That she's not available from the start this time.
05:45It's interesting that some people that you have to unlock in Tree Tranquility are available from the start, but not her.
05:52There's unskippable cutscenes at home where Discount Navi whines about himself,
05:58which makes me wonder how the game expected us to care about him.
06:02Maybe I would if the sprites looked like they did in Friends of Mineral Town.
06:06At least any answer makes him happy somehow.
06:09You'd think effectiveness would offend him.
06:13What's with a pause before Paolo starts talking to you where the camera moves around?
06:17Every time you go to a new area, there's a cutscene with the camera panning around, and I hate it.
06:26It's such a waste of time.
06:29All I could think of when first seeing him is, how did I never see him until now?
06:33It makes even less sense since he's the son of the fishery guy.
06:37So it never made sense that he was an unlockable character.
06:40How does a kid have the waterway key if the cave is dangerous?
06:44Did he steal it to visit it?
06:48I'm glad the waterway key vanishes after use, because the old stone tablet doesn't.
06:55It feels like padding having to get even more items to activate an entertaining Ruby Goldberg sequence
07:00after the wizard already asked you for random stuff like cornmeal to turn the witch back to normal.
07:05The fact that you still have to get items to ring bells
07:07makes everything that doesn't involve getting items really feel like padding.
07:12It's blatant padding that when you go into the cave and find the blue bell,
07:17you're told to go all the way back to the goddess wasting time,
07:20and then have to go back to Paolo,
07:22to find out the arbitrary items you need.
07:26When you should have just been told that right away.
07:28Why wasn't the map complete instantly if you could simply do more drawing to make the map make sense?
07:33But good thing the cutscene with the goddess starts the instant you go to her screen.
07:38If all she says is to find someone very familiar with the watery cave,
07:43your main character should have known to just ask Paolo right away.
07:47I never imagined that literally any kind of fish would do for this.
07:51The game should have warned you that you need to get the Black Pearl from Floor 25 specifically.
07:58But apparently the guide lied,
08:00because Windy Day isn't even a requirement.
08:04All the story stuff I don't mention is easy to follow intuitive instructions
08:07I have nothing to complain about with.
08:10It's pretty obvious that the complaint is,
08:12it shouldn't even be there because it's blatant padding.
08:15Why do I have to wait until the next morning before a boat can take me to an island?
08:19It's a video game!
08:21This was never the case before.
08:23It's convenient that I'm automatically rushed over to the boat right away after the day starts.
08:28Why is there a bunch of boring dialogue
08:30instead of me being able to simply buy a ticket for the ferry instantly and use it?
08:35Why do you have to buy a ticket at all?
08:38Harvest Moon 3 didn't require buying a ticket every time you used a boat.
08:41The ticket's so expensive that if you're going to go here,
08:44you have to fish to make up for the money you spent.
08:48Why do I have to go equip the ticket before I can use the boat?
08:52Equipping would be so much faster if you could do so from the rucksack,
08:56because scrolling through the ring menu can take forever.
08:59After you hand him the ticket,
09:01he pointlessly asks you if you want to take a ride,
09:04when of course you do.
09:06And when you choose yes,
09:07there's a waste of time text box from him before the boat slowly takes off.
09:11Meanwhile,
09:13the instant you go into the place with Selena's mom,
09:16you get a scene where you show her the letter
09:17and get a hibiscus for free too.
09:21He had a lame excuse for not selling it to me before.
09:24I hate that the island is just like in the previous game,
09:28well, with a slight design change to account for the kingfish.
09:31It still has the stuff on the ground that I can't pick up,
09:34like flowers,
09:35and some of that stuff covers up the stuff that I can.
09:37It's obvious padding that I can't simply get a hibiscus on the island.
09:43And if I knew I'd need two tickets,
09:45I'd have bought two,
09:47and I had to wait two more days.
09:48I forgot how early it closed.
09:52To make the cornmeal to return the witch to normal,
09:55you need to use the watermill in flute fields.
09:59It's convoluted to not just have one mill from day one
10:02that can make everything,
10:03like I assumed at first.
10:05Later on,
10:06you can buy something that literally does that.
10:09It's not intuitive which one makes stuff,
10:12the watermill or windmill.
10:15It says windmill,
10:16but characters call this the watermill.
10:19You apparently only make one thing from mills at a time.
10:23Sure sucks trying to make over 50 salts then.
10:26It's never good game design
10:27when it ruins the fun of playing the game
10:30to get the most money,
10:32to be the best at the game.
10:33For no reason,
10:34you turn around every time you get something from the mill.
10:38So you have to hold up to account for that.
10:40At least the mills process stuff in seconds.
10:45But it's clearly not necessary that on rainy days,
10:48they decrease the quality of the crop you put in them.
10:51It's especially weird they upage during snowstorms,
10:54which would cause you to hoard stuff until the snowstorm.
10:59I like that the watermill you buy lets you make a lot more stuff.
11:02Why can't I go in mills during festivals?
11:07Nobody's in there.
11:09I have to pay with money, lumber, and stone
11:11to get my watermill bills,
11:13even though it's there the whole game,
11:14but locked.
11:16The wizard looks imaginative,
11:18even if he isn't appealing to look at anyway.
11:21I thought he'd look like Merlin.
11:22That'd have more charm.
11:24Why does he have white hair?
11:25Why are there two bachelors in the game with white hair?
11:31It's great that the cutscene then teleports you to the witch's house
11:34so you can instantly ask her for the bell.
11:37Wow, I thought the witch princess would not be dressed like that.
11:41I thought the witch princess would dress like a witch.
11:44A real witch costume would have been better.
11:47Why is she wearing shorts?
11:49Naturally, she asks what took so long.
11:52It was months.
11:53Why wouldn't it be?
11:55Perfect butter was one of the ingredients.
11:59But while it does annoy me,
12:00she has every right to be mad.
12:02She accuses the wizard of leaving her as a frog
12:05to teach her a lesson.
12:06And somehow he doesn't correct her
12:08that he just didn't have the ingredients
12:10and if he conjured them up,
12:11they'd be free of magic.
12:13There's no reason she'd ask
12:15if yarn is the green bell.
12:18She's the one who took it
12:19so she'd know what it is.
12:21She must have been getting back at you
12:23for taking too long to move here.
12:26It's bullshit that the default answer
12:29is the wrong one to pad out the cutscene.
12:32It's blatant padding that she offers the wrong item to you.
12:35I knew she'd offer the wrong item again
12:37because of rule of three.
12:39She'd know what a bell is.
12:42And the sprite wouldn't say the bell
12:44isn't the bell when he's seeing it
12:46just to realize it is.
12:48Why does she have gray hair
12:50when she's meant to be a young lady physically?
12:53She's obviously letting her hair look like that,
12:55but why?
12:57Befinding the witch is needlessly annoying
12:59because it takes forever to get to her.
13:01There's no way that green elf in a dress
13:05would forget he's meant to ring the bell.
13:07I hate how all the elves look in this game.
13:10Why don't they look like they did
13:11in the earlier games?
13:13There's no way Gil would be in the windmill.
13:16I could buy that he was in the watery cave
13:18that he followed you
13:20because he happens to be walking nearby
13:22because it's where his house is.
13:24But why is he in the windmill?
13:26How's it that Gil only briefly sees Finn
13:29and then just assumes he hallucinated
13:31and somehow tells you he did?
13:34But I always like when a character thanks me.
13:37I like that there's a cutscene
13:38with people happy that the green bell was rung,
13:41but it should have not gone on as long.
13:44To ring the last bell,
13:45you have to raise 10 villagers to 3 hearts,
13:49which I could have already done if I knew to.
13:52So the game designer must have known that,
13:55and that's why you can only start collecting wishes
13:57after ringing the other bells.
13:59I really hate that Idjod's bell requires you
14:02to not only visit the church at 2am,
14:04but then you have to talk to 10 people
14:06who are up to at least 3 hearts.
14:08Thankfully, I don't have to talk to a character
14:10five days in a row before I can start
14:12gifting them anymore,
14:14and they don't move out
14:15after you start ignoring them for a month.
14:18It turns out you can give mushrooms
14:19as neutral gifts to everyone
14:21in the mine district and flute fields.
14:24And since so many are thrown at you,
14:26it's surprisingly easy to befriend 10 people.
14:28Even if it takes months.
14:31I thought I'd have to look up and buy their favorite gifts,
14:34which would have been faster,
14:35but it's worth the extra time
14:36from not having to spend money on this.
14:39The wait after you give gifts to people
14:42in the newer games sucks.
14:44So that's why they have common mushrooms everywhere.
14:48Anyone that's already at 3 hearts
14:50when you start collecting wishes
14:52will tell you what her wish was
14:53right after you talk to her.
14:55It's stupid that it doesn't count
14:57as hearing people's wishes
14:58when you talk to them
14:59at the Starry Night Festival
15:00when they're all telling you their wishes
15:02no problem.
15:03I wish I could just talk to Edge
15:05after getting 10 wishes and that's it
15:07instead of having to take forever
15:09telling the forgettable mural wishes
15:11one at a time
15:12with Finn dragging things out
15:14with worthless dialogue
15:15that states the obvious.
15:17You have to wait 34 seconds per wish.
15:21I thought I'd be given a list
15:24only containing the names
15:25of the villagers whose wishes I heard
15:27and that would have been much faster
15:29than having to scroll through
15:30the entire list of villagers.
15:32I wish there wasn't a wish trophy.
15:35Then I wouldn't have read about it on a wiki
15:36and wasted all that time earning it.
15:39At first I forgot the wishing shrine existed
15:41and thought I didn't have 10 wishes
15:42because the crybaby elf
15:44acted like he wasn't told all of the wishes.
15:47You'd think since the wishes are there
15:49to help with his loneliness
15:50you'd see him right in front of you
15:52as you're talking to the wish shrine.
15:55After all the trouble I went through
15:56to ring the bells
15:57it's blatant padding
15:59that I also had to
16:00earn a title of hero in any category
16:03and ring all the five bells at once
16:06at the summit
16:06when my mortal character needed the sprites
16:09to do it before
16:10and does this time.
16:13The goddess doesn't tell you
16:14that you have earned the title of hero
16:16in something yet
16:17and when I choose to talk to Finn
16:20he tells me to visit the goddess
16:21instead of telling me to visit the king's throne
16:24which is all the way on the summit.
16:27The Harvest King reminds me of the villain of Pokemon X
16:30or Kingdom Hearts.
16:33It's satisfying that I finally achieved this
16:35but I was also sort of bored and impatient
16:37for the string of cutscenes to end the whole time
16:40because there's too much unnecessary predictable dialogue
16:43that bores me
16:44saying a whole lot for nothing.
16:46You could say that for most of the cutscenes
16:48in the Harvest Moon really.
16:50And after all that
16:52you don't get to see in the mine and mine
16:54and instead you're teleported to your bedroom
16:56at the end of the day too.
16:59In earlier games
17:00you didn't have to wake up a Harvest King
17:02just to be able to upgrade tools with rare metal.
17:05You're going to have married
17:07and bought nearly everything
17:08by the time you did that.
17:10After you ring all the bells
17:12the characters in the village
17:13will comment on the fact
17:14that they heard the resulting melody
17:15every single day
17:17and they never stop talking about it.
17:21And they usually have that
17:22as the first thing they say.
17:24It got really annoying
17:25after the first few times.
17:27It punishes you for progressing
17:29the story of the game.
17:31This kind of thing happens
17:32every time you progress this story.
17:34Then the Harvest King sent me a letter
17:36and had the nerve
17:37to not tell me what his problem was.
17:40I say nerve
17:41because for all I knew
17:42I needed to bring him something.
17:44Now there's a portal back to the summit.
17:47So I wonder why he was too stupid
17:49to make that before sending me the letter.
17:52He said overly vaguely
17:53that he's looking for someone
17:54with a pure heart
17:55and eventually I guessed it to me and my kid.
17:58How was I supposed to know
17:59I had to wait for him
18:00to have his own wardrobe first?
18:02My first guess was Chloe.
18:04There were tons of request events already.
18:07So I must have assumed
18:08it was a request event.
18:11It's annoying that a snowman
18:12asks me every other night
18:13in the winter for a carrot
18:14I have no way of getting.
18:17I love that every day
18:18after he's helped
18:19he gives you a random valuable gift.
18:22But I wish I got it
18:22immediately after having
18:23press A in front of him
18:25instead of it being a pace breaker.
18:27And the snowman
18:27should have been to the right instead.
18:30Because when he's to the left
18:31it's easy to forget
18:32to check him for the day
18:33since you don't tend to go to the left
18:35after leaving the house.
18:37I wish he gave you
18:38literally any rare item ever
18:40instead of only giving you certain ones.
18:43Because then everyone
18:44would be able to get
18:45all of the kingfish.
18:47He gives you the hot gins
18:48so why not the Dorito
18:49or the kingfish
18:50from the goddess spring?
18:53I hate that the so-called
18:54red fridge is pink.
18:56So it should call itself
18:57pink fridge.
18:59Why can't you put a bookshelf
19:00against the south wall?
19:02Again, the game's unusually picky
19:03about where you get
19:04to put furniture.
19:06The only restrictions
19:07there should be
19:08should be ones that
19:09keep you from getting
19:10stuck between furniture.
19:12And that doesn't even need
19:13a restriction.
19:14You could just
19:15be able to choose
19:16where your furniture is
19:17in your house
19:18from anywhere
19:19instead of needing
19:20to use the diary to do it.
19:22But amount restrictions
19:24seem gone.
19:26It feels like a newbie's trap
19:27that turns out
19:28the monthly circus
19:29has a side quest
19:30that had taken
19:31until the fall
19:32to complete.
19:33Rewarding you
19:34with what's essentially
19:34a warpstone again
19:36but limited to
19:37three locations.
19:39And you can only get
19:40that reward
19:40after going to
19:41the next circus.
19:43How are you supposed
19:44to know that
19:44visiting this festival
19:45isn't just as pointless
19:46as the other festivals
19:47with no prizes?
19:50Usually the festivals
19:51are only for giving you
19:52dialogue.
19:53And you don't go to them
19:54when you're trying
19:55to buy everything
19:55because that means
19:56not making money
19:57instead.
19:58In this game
19:59you can go to a circus
20:00and get told to find
20:01missing animals
20:02and bring them recipes
20:03such blatant padding
20:05that you can't just
20:05give them anything.
20:08Why would these animals
20:09want recipes?
20:11But you need a pepper
20:12as well as a tomato
20:13and potato
20:13to make one of the recipes.
20:15And like in Magical Melody
20:17you can only buy
20:17some crops
20:18all year long.
20:20And you can't buy
20:21those crops
20:21all year long
20:22like Magical Melody.
20:24Why can't I simply
20:25buy the warp item
20:26for cheap
20:26at day 8
20:27like in Harvest Moon DS?
20:29They let that pass.
20:31There's nothing wrong
20:32with that.
20:34Being more south
20:35as you find Trunks.
20:37It's finicky.
20:38So it's more satisfying
20:40to get him.
20:41What's absolute garbage
20:42is that you can't
20:43simply find all
20:44of the animals
20:45on one day
20:46which no one's
20:47going to know
20:47at first.
20:49Not even the wiki
20:49warns you about this.
20:51Instead you have
20:52to find one animal
20:53and it has to be
20:54the animal that
20:54the letter you got
20:55told you about
20:56and then wait
20:57until the next
20:58letter tomorrow.
21:00Never mind the fact
21:00that the other animals
21:01would obviously be
21:02where they turn out
21:03to be all along.
21:05By the time I did
21:06do the side quest
21:07the first time
21:07it was the second
21:08summer
21:09when all I had
21:10left to buy
21:10were the villas
21:11and river plant.
21:13When I started
21:13befriending everyone
21:14I got a lot of
21:15use out of it.
21:16I hate that you
21:17have to sit through
21:17cutscenes every time
21:19you whistle it.
21:21The pig cutscene
21:22was charming.
21:23The warpstone
21:24was instant.
21:26I had to talk
21:27to Theodore
21:27multiple times
21:28to get him
21:29to request something
21:30from me
21:30for the first time
21:31though usually
21:32it's the first
21:33thing he says.
21:34It makes it annoying
21:35that every time
21:36you talk to him
21:36it wastes your time
21:37fading to black
21:38and then it does
21:39so again.
21:41Even Sonic Adventure
21:42didn't fade to black
21:43every time it
21:44changed camera angles.
21:47If I hadn't used
21:47a guide
21:48I never would have
21:49known he even
21:49had a request.
21:51He requests
21:52one out of four
21:53items and it's
21:54random which one.
21:55The same guide
21:56told me what I
21:57needed to have
21:57for him anyways.
21:59So I guess it's
22:00okay because if
22:00you're activating
22:01the event
22:02you'll be prepared.
22:03Unless you feel
22:04like talking to
22:05everyone.
22:06You'd have to have
22:07the spinach
22:07and chestnut
22:08in your fridge
22:08already to have
22:09any chance
22:10if you request
22:11them.
22:12That's only gonna
22:12happen in the
22:13fall circus
22:14if you happen
22:15to have spinach
22:16ready for harvest
22:16that very day
22:18and you'll only
22:19be able to buy
22:19the chestnut
22:20in the fall.
22:21This is the kind
22:22of emergency
22:23a phone is good
22:24for.
22:25You can still
22:25buy stuff with
22:26a phone if it's
22:27outside business
22:28hours, the store's
22:29day off, or even
22:30a holiday.
22:31I'm in love
22:31with that new
22:32improvement.
22:33Too bad the game
22:34didn't tell me that
22:34before I even
22:35considered buying
22:36it, or I'd have
22:37bought it much
22:38earlier, but it
22:39took me a while
22:40to learn there's a
22:40glitch where it
22:41costs twice as
22:42much to buy
22:42anything over the
22:43phone.
22:44I want all that
22:45money back, so
22:47it's actually a good
22:48thing that I took
22:48forever to buy it.
22:50I only noticed this
22:52problem when it
22:53came to buying
22:54land, because with
22:55highly expensive
22:56things, I do
22:57memorize the price.
22:58You have to
22:59remember to only use
23:00it in an extreme
23:01emergency, not
23:02use it to buy
23:03seeds on the
23:04first day of the
23:04season, because
23:06that's instinctive.
23:08The average player
23:09is not going to
23:10have a chestnut
23:11tree because most
23:11people know better
23:12than to have
23:12trees, since most
23:14of the year they
23:15just take up space
23:16on the farmland on
23:17you that could have
23:17been given to
23:18profitable things.
23:19One season of
23:20them producing can't
23:22be worth the time
23:22you save not having
23:23to water them.
23:25Trees would have
23:25had appeal if they
23:26were the only crops
23:27you were allowed to
23:28plant on literally
23:29any green or soil
23:31part of the
23:31overworld you
23:32felt like.
23:33I had so many
23:34playthroughs of
23:34Magical Melody
23:35because of that.
23:37So there's a
23:3750-50 chance he'll
23:38ask you for
23:39something you
23:39probably won't be
23:40able to get.
23:42It's a total
23:42crapshoot whether
23:43you'll get rock
23:44salt or not.
23:45You could take
23:45all day and not
23:46get it, or get
23:47it instantly.
23:48It's nice to see
23:49the kids slide
23:50down the draft.
23:51If only
23:52Valko.com told me
23:53I had to press
23:54A in front of it
23:54to do so instead
23:55of start the
23:56festival.
23:57Because I missed
23:58my opportunity
23:58plenty of
23:59times because
24:00of that.
24:01Meaning I wasted
24:02all that time
24:02making the kids
24:03walk there,
24:04and all the time
24:05watching the
24:05circus three
24:07times.
24:08I watched the
24:09circus cutscene
24:09three times
24:10because I expected
24:11the kids to
24:12come in at the
24:12last second.
24:14In this game
24:15you can't buy
24:15more land until
24:16you talk to
24:17everyone in town
24:18and pay the
24:195000G for the
24:20land you already
24:21have, which is
24:22fake longevity.
24:24More land was
24:25one of the last
24:25things I bought
24:26because it was
24:27so expensive and
24:28the whole fun of
24:28the game
24:29is buying
24:30things, but
24:31having an extra
24:32land plot is a
24:33broken way of
24:33making more
24:34money.
24:35There's no way
24:36to put any
24:36beds in the
24:37villas, which
24:38ruins the
24:39immersion, but
24:40there's also no
24:40way to upgrade
24:41them, so
24:42good, that's
24:43less you have to
24:44buy.
24:45You can also put
24:46whatever furniture
24:47you want in there
24:47even if it was
24:48already placed, which
24:50is both more
24:51convenient and
24:52less immersive.
24:53And since all
24:54the fridges and
24:54shelves in the
24:55game share the
24:56exact same
24:56inventory, there's
24:58officially no point
24:58to the villas
24:59whatsoever.
25:01Getting a few of
25:01the power barriers
25:02is bullshit.
25:04Unlike in
25:04Friends of
25:04Mineral Town, you
25:06can't max out the
25:07experience on a
25:08fishing rod by just
25:09spamming A with it.
25:11You have to take a
25:12trillion years catching
25:13fish that take
25:13forever to catch.
25:16And yet the
25:16hoe can be leveled
25:17up as easily as the
25:18earliest games.
25:20It's still much
25:21faster to just
25:22till the soil and
25:23then use a hammer
25:24to get rid of the
25:25soil and till it
25:26again.
25:27The fourth power
25:28berry is a pixel
25:28hunt like the
25:29map treasures.
25:31Why do non-8-bit
25:32games do this?
25:33It's so weird because
25:34other power
25:35berries are
25:35insultingly easy
25:36to get to the
25:37point where you
25:38should have just
25:38had them all
25:39along because
25:39they're inevitable.
25:41The power
25:42berry was
25:42invisible on the
25:43last floor of
25:44the first mine.
25:45So if it weren't
25:46for the guide, I
25:47wouldn't have
25:47found it.
25:48There's a
25:49pointless dragged
25:49out cutscene where
25:50you get the
25:51courage to jump
25:51to a platform
25:52and you have to
25:53see it twice if
25:55you naturally
25:55check to the
25:56nearest corner of
25:57the room for the
25:57power berry for
25:58nothing.
25:59When I read on
26:00a wiki that you
26:01have to have a
26:01specific map to
26:02pick up the
26:03treasure on that
26:03platform, I
26:05said, that's
26:05bullshit, that's
26:06bullshit, why
26:07do you need the
26:08map?
26:09You don't even
26:09see the room on
26:10the map.
26:11It's description
26:12just gives you a
26:13riddle that you
26:13probably need the
26:14wiki to translate.
26:16Once you buy a
26:17map, it's hard to
26:18get rid of it.
26:19You can't ship it.
26:21You'd think it
26:22vanished after you
26:23find its treasure,
26:24but nope, it just
26:25stays there forever
26:26like the old stone
26:27tablet.
26:29Sometimes the
26:29riddle's indecipherable,
26:31like the map of
26:32Bond's one.
26:34It's so weird that
26:34you have to put a
26:35wet map that you
26:37only get from
26:38befriending someone
26:39in a fire, and
26:40that's how you dry
26:41it off.
26:42That's the only thing
26:43you would try, but
26:44it's so stupid.
26:46All the awards for
26:47maps are just
26:48measly jewels.
26:50Surely give you
26:51some money, but it
26:52should be something
26:52more valuable and
26:53less common.
26:55The wiki calls the
26:56map of droplet,
26:57map of drip.
26:59The wet map leads
27:00to another map I
27:01needed a guide for,
27:03because you're not
27:03going to find the
27:04answer if you search
27:05for map of night.
27:07And the final award
27:08is worthless.
27:09Why are the main
27:10characters smiling at
27:11first when they'd
27:11instantly know it's
27:12glass?
27:13Oh good, there's
27:14much better awards
27:15than that.
27:16I got the pirate
27:17bandana.
27:19I thought that was
27:19great until I found
27:20out it was black
27:21with no other
27:22colors.
27:23I was expecting
27:24one just like the
27:25one of the same
27:25name from the last
27:26Wii game.
27:28Like in Sunshine
27:29Islands, you can't
27:30buy cooked items
27:32to get the recipe
27:32anymore, which
27:34makes it take longer
27:35to get all the
27:35recipes for no
27:36reason.
27:37You can learn
27:38recipes by checking
27:39houses again, but
27:41it's one per season
27:42now and you aren't
27:42told when new
27:43recipes will show
27:44in those houses.
27:46You can't give an
27:47ingredient to someone
27:48each day to get a
27:49new recipe like in
27:50Sunshine Islands.
27:52When I finally did
27:53catch Kingfish, I was
27:54so mad at what I
27:55went through that I
27:56wasn't even happy,
27:57just bitter about
27:58what I had to go
27:59through.
28:00I caught both of
28:01them eventually, but
28:02only because of the
28:03guide on Fogu.com,
28:05which doesn't show
28:06you how to position
28:06yourself, and the
28:07screenshots are way
28:08too small.
28:09It only took me a
28:11few in-game days of
28:12trying, but those
28:13weren't all in a
28:14row.
28:15I gave up for months
28:16in-game thinking it
28:17was impossible to
28:18catch them.
28:19The Kingfish in the
28:20swamp area is the
28:22worst one to catch.
28:24At least it was
28:24satisfying to get the
28:25fish trophy.
28:27It's kind of easy, I
28:28caught most of those
28:28fish trying to do his
28:30trash recycling side
28:31quest.
28:32My definition of
28:33hard would be having
28:35to follow a guide to
28:36catch every fish.
28:37Instead, it's just
28:38the Kingfish, because
28:40there's no other way
28:41to know exactly when
28:42you can catch them.
28:43I like that once
28:44again, simply buying
28:45stuff adds it to your
28:46list of crops or
28:47whatever, and ranks
28:48don't matter.
28:49But considering that
28:50catching certain
28:50Kingfish requires you
28:52to stand in a very
28:52specific spot, the
28:54fact that you have to
28:55actually catch the
28:55fish to get in your
28:56fish list is absolutely
28:59psychotic.
29:00You can buy fish, but
29:01barely any.
29:03It would have been
29:04better if shipping fish
29:05was enough at that
29:06point.
29:06Why did anyone
29:07think it was morally
29:08acceptable to make it
29:09so that now you have
29:10to fish up specific
29:11fish in very specific
29:12spots when there's no
29:14way to know exactly
29:15where to stand?
29:17It's constant trial and
29:18error to try to get the
29:19fish line on the fish
29:21exactly.
29:22But there aren't any
29:23codes for changing the
29:25fish you catch.
29:26This isn't even the
29:27only fish in the game
29:28that requires pixel
29:29perfect accuracy to
29:31catch it.
29:32Your character walks
29:33too far ahead with
29:34every attempt at
29:35walking ahead to make
29:36getting in just the
29:37right spot skill-based.
29:39This is the most
29:40aggravating part of the
29:41game.
29:42Games are meant to be
29:43fun and this just
29:43pisses everybody off.
29:45So there's no reason to
29:46try to catch the
29:47hardest kingfish.
29:49Just having it be
29:50luck-based without it
29:51mattering where you
29:51cast would have been
29:52better.
29:53Even forcing you to
29:54catch a thousand fish
29:55and then automatically
29:56giving you the Dorito
29:57would still be better
29:58design because you get
30:00it eventually.
30:01Something I absolutely
30:02hate is that when you
30:03hold down the button
30:04your fishing rod goes
30:05further and in some
30:06places doing that
30:07won't let you cast the
30:08rod.
30:09And this was the case
30:10in Tree Tranquility
30:11is too.
30:11But what wasn't the
30:12case is you still take
30:14up stamina for the
30:15attempt.
30:16So I'd rather it be
30:17that you can only cast
30:18the rod the same
30:19distance every charge
30:21up and all the fish
30:22were reachable that
30:23way.
30:24Like in the older
30:24games.
30:26It's just a waste of
30:27programming to make it
30:28cast further.
30:29In some places it
30:30sucks trying to get
30:31your lie in the water
30:32when charging it up.
30:35At least most of the
30:36kingfish are easy to
30:37catch because it's easy
30:37to position yourself
30:38right.
30:40Either I got unlucky
30:41or fogu.com lied
30:42because I wasted a
30:43whole day trying to
30:44catch the barracuda
30:45without charging it
30:46up.
30:47I love that not every
30:48kingfish requires the
30:50max charge time and
30:51that catching them
30:52gives more experience
30:53points.
30:54You need a guide to
30:56know that if you have
30:56honey when you go to
30:57the first field area of
30:58the forest just after
30:59midnight the animals
31:01get made to like
31:02you more.
31:03They barely get any
31:04infection from it.
31:06I doubt if you did it
31:07every single day you'd
31:08still be able to fully
31:10befriend the animals
31:11that are only there in
31:12the winter.
31:13Yeah they make it
31:14needlessly dickish trying
31:15to befriend all the
31:16wild animals this time.
31:18This applies to tree
31:18tranquility too.
31:19Why can't I track
31:20animals?
31:22Animals aren't there
31:23when it's raining
31:24anymore.
31:25Most of the animals
31:26aren't around in the
31:27winter and like
31:28Magical Melody
31:29takes forever
31:30befriending the
31:30frog because it's
31:31only there on a
31:32rainy day.
31:33It's another thing
31:34they never should
31:34have programmed.
31:36So you get Cheeto
31:37raising hearts with
31:38wild animals just
31:39because of something
31:39you can't control
31:40and the animals are
31:42gone during festivals
31:43that happened there.
31:45While I love that
31:46you can pet them to
31:46raise their affection
31:47it comes with more
31:49bad changes than
31:50good.
31:51It takes longer to
31:52raise their affection
31:53to max anyways
31:54because not only
31:55what I said earlier
31:56but there's more
31:57hearts on their
31:57barn and it no
31:59longer seems to
32:00raise their affection
32:00if you feed one of
32:01them twice in a row
32:02and when you get
32:04one to like you
32:04enough you start
32:06having to press A
32:07twice to pet them
32:08because an option
32:09to carry them that
32:10you'll never use
32:11is there.
32:13I love that some
32:13places don't ever
32:14rain and the wild
32:16animals always show
32:17up there.
32:18If you adopt a pet
32:20it goes from almost
32:21a full heart meter
32:22to needing four
32:23more hearts
32:24to be fully
32:25befriended.
32:27The game also
32:28doesn't warn you
32:28that walking them
32:29for a few hours
32:30in the rain
32:30makes them lose
32:31affection instead
32:32of gain.
32:33Harvest Moon doesn't
32:34make enough sense
32:34for me to assume
32:35that.
32:37At least the cats
32:38look cuter
32:38because two are
32:40replaced with
32:40kittens.
32:42And all but the
32:42duck and turtle
32:43like mushrooms.
32:45The most common
32:46forageable item
32:47all year.
32:48So it's much easier
32:49to figure out how
32:50to feed most of
32:50them this time
32:51from just giving
32:52them the most
32:52convenient item.
32:54You can even feed
32:55them flowers
32:56and they appreciate
32:57it which is
32:58something you'd
32:58only find out
32:59by accident
32:59when you're
33:00trying to give
33:00the flower to
33:01a person.
33:02You can even
33:02give a seashell
33:03to one of them.
33:06It feels better
33:07to give them
33:07food though.
33:08It's more natural.
33:09Because there's
33:10some things you
33:11can only buy
33:11in a certain season
33:13it artificially
33:13takes longer
33:14to befriend
33:15everyone fully.
33:16When it's a
33:17rainy or snowy
33:18Thursday that's
33:18not a holiday
33:19it's impossible
33:20to give Phoebe
33:21Owen Ramsey
33:22and Lucy a gift.
33:24That's why in
33:24games without
33:25relationship decay
33:26you should be able
33:27to enter his story
33:28even on his day
33:29off.
33:30And this game
33:31doesn't have
33:32relationship decay.
33:33Why does the
33:34Harvest King say
33:35I pay attention
33:36well when I give
33:36him a gift he loves
33:37when it's impossible
33:38to assume he likes
33:39it based on
33:40looking at him?
33:41I know it's
33:42a recipe based
33:43on a fruit
33:44but it would
33:45make even more
33:46sense to assume
33:47it's a fruit
33:47that he likes.
33:49Every villager
33:50has something
33:50to say about
33:51there being
33:51a festival
33:52tomorrow
33:52and you
33:52having two
33:53kids
33:54and the second
33:54kid not being
33:55a baby anymore
33:56and the concept
33:57of siblings.
33:59And if one of
33:59them is outside
34:00and you're
34:01walking your pet
34:01it'll get
34:03commented on.
34:04So that's all
34:04neat for the
34:05first time
34:06but everyone
34:07has the same
34:07few things
34:08to say about
34:08all that
34:09and it's
34:10random whether
34:11they say
34:11something they
34:12haven't said
34:12before that day
34:13or not.
34:14So it's
34:15annoying trying
34:15to get all
34:16their dialogue.
34:16It's really
34:18forced that
34:19Cain only
34:19knows the
34:20name of
34:20one flower.
34:22Has he never
34:22watched TV
34:23before?
34:23more?
