00:00Eventually it says Sonic ticked Walters in the side to shove him out of the way of a missile and toss the servers to the floor.
00:07It's pitiful when it says that it was a shame no one could see his heroism, except more long-winded.
00:14Knuckles eventually spins some missile back the way it came, and Sonic sees Tails rise over him to deflect another one.
00:22It was impressive of Tails to loop a Sogadget around a few missiles and swing them around.
00:29Knuckles starts punching back missiles after missiles, and Sonic swats them away as well.
00:36This is repetitive, so I'm bored reading it.
00:39After padding, a missile lands in the center of the room and blows everything to the ground, which is eventually revealed to have made Walters collapse.
00:50Earlier the story reminded me that Sonic can go into hyperspeed.
00:54So this would have been avoided if he had the common sense to stay in hyperspeed and carry him out of the building and then return.
01:02He had literally no reason to exit hyperspeed at all until all of the missiles were dealt with.
01:08So this happening was forced by completely insulting Sonic's competence.
01:13They chose the perfect character to get rid of though, because nobody likes this smug, stupid jerk who captured Sonic in the second movie.
01:22And somehow thought his badge would scare someone into not shooting near him.
01:26If they wanted an impactful death, they should have gone with a different character.
01:30Even one of the servers would have worked better.
01:33This was only good for establishing that the one responsible for this is a threat, which hitting the servers would also do.
01:41After padding, they see Eggman's drones.
01:45And it bores me again until a motorcycle under the command of an unknown rider jumps over the debris and circles the trio.
01:53Eventually, he flicks out a handful of tiny devices on his wrist, and each coin-sized device attaches to a drone and in a second gets electrocuted into falling.
02:04Tails shows appreciation for the technology.
02:07That's nice.
02:08The writer could have not remembered to do that.
02:11It's good that Tails isn't just exposition bought 99% of the time he's speaking so far, but most of the time he's silent and not really enjoyable.
02:21Eventually, the writer unscrews the top plate from a drone and eventually pulls out a thin black drive from it.
02:28Eventually, Sonic thanks the writer, but he leaves inexplicably instead of revealing his identity.
02:34Knuckles, of course, wants to follow him.
02:37And both he and Tails eventually do so without another word.
02:41Sonic, the least moral out of all of them, is the only one who cares enough to stay with Walters.
02:47After all, as the narration lampshades, this is his fault.
02:51But the way the narration talks is if it's Sonic downplays the gravity of the situation, as if Sonic's merely annoyed and exasperated by this as an embarrassment.
03:02Eventually, Walters gives Sonic a wallet with an orange half-moon logo.
03:07And eventually tells him it's what Shadow wants.
03:10A key to the Eclipse Cannon.
03:13Since when does it need a key?
03:15Nobody expected anyone to ever get to it and try to use it who wouldn't be allowed to.
03:20He should tell Sonic to throw the key into the ocean.
03:24In fact, he should have gotten rid of it already.
03:27Sonic has no reason to think he should keep it instead of immediately trying to get rid of it in a bunch of potential ways.
03:35Either way, Shadow would never find it.
03:38Why doesn't Walter tell him who Shadow is working for before he passes out?
03:43And again, the narration says yeah and definitely while saying Sonic didn't want to be responsible for something like this.
03:50Which only downplays this and makes Sonic come off as having a part of him that is merely annoyed by this as a blow to his pride instead of actually caring.
03:58Right afterwards, a radio receiver on the ground, as in the floor, eventually is described as having Rockwell's voice come from it.
04:08After a worthless line of narration, she immediately somehow jumps to the conclusion that the commander is missing when she hasn't found out what happened to him yet.
04:17And so I'm wondering if she would have done this even if nothing happened to Walters.
04:21She orders Gunn to try to capture or tell any aliens again.
04:25So when she captures them, does she plan to put them in camps?
04:29The story could be more on the nose and it'd be better for it to be with this instead.
04:34Her order means it is being faithful to SE2 now because Gunn is trying to capture Sonic now.
04:41With that order and Rock's paranoia, it makes it clear that no, the story isn't pro-military just because Sonic took a mission from Gunn at the start.
04:50After a few pointless lines in the book, one of which is that Rockwell repeats her order for no reason.
04:57Sonic goes up to Knuckles when he's at the corner.
05:01And I'm wondering why Knuckles and Tails, who can move at almost Sonic speed, didn't catch up with the rider.
05:07None of them are explaining that the motorcycle had some special technology in it.
05:12Knuckles mocks Sonic for being slow to get here.
05:15And Sonic just says that he is the fastest thing alive, a Sadie M theme song reference for the Sadie M fans.
05:22And he tells his friends that they'll have to disguise themselves in giant chow suits just long enough to get far enough away from this place.
05:30And thankfully, as soon as they're in the clear, they remove the suits and start running fast.
05:35Something that would have given them away made the disguises pointless.
05:39Which is why they waited to remove them.
05:41And I was going to question the disguises since it'd be a little faster to just run without taking the time to disguise themselves.
05:47And Sonic's no coward.
05:49But maybe Sonic had a good point and then being cautious makes sense after someone just got killed because he was too arrogant and lazy to take the extra caution of taking him out of the building.
06:00It says it's nearly midnight.
06:03Waste my time and says Sonic tracks the sound of the motorcycle's direction towards the waterfront.
06:09Eventually Sonic rolls a costume's head under one of the cycle's tires to stop it.
06:15And eventually the rider pulls off his helmet to reveal that he's Agent Stone.
06:19I thought it was Tom, using Tails' technology.
06:23And that would have made more sense.
06:25The words written after this are lame until Tails asks him why he saved them and is here.
06:31And gets to not answer, looking for answers.
06:34Eventually Stone says this latest string of events wasn't Eggman's plan.
06:39And he eventually pulls out of his jacket a thing with a button that caused a giant crab shaped building to rise out of the bottom of the harbor.
06:47It's good to have it be animal shaped because that's in character for Eggman from the games.
06:53Not for this Eggman, but that can only be an improvement.
06:57And eventually Stone nicely asks the heroes to join him going into the building.
07:02The next chapter starts out really being boring because the narration does everything from complimenting Eggman repetitively to recapping his last failure.
07:11It talks like the stunk up hipster Eggman from the films, which is tedious and long winded.
07:17It doesn't encourage reading it.
07:19I'm nearly halfway through the book and I still hate it.
07:24It usually ranges from boring to frustrating and how almost none of its changes from the game are worth it and respectful.
07:31While I'd never have expected any Eggman would start making video reviews of a Mexican soap opera or anything at all in a way that disguises its identity at least.
07:40I can't think of anything bad about it that offsets his creativity since it reveals he still talks like Eggman by saying that family's a weakness that only abandon and betray you.
07:50Ignoring that with most people that's not the case.
07:53I guess he wants even people who have good families to learn that because he'd be jealous of any that do and want them to lose the good connections they have.
08:03The point is Eggman's not implied to be crying over a soap opera because he's so touched and sympathetic because of it like the joke tends to go.
08:11Technically, any hobby you suddenly give a character is out of character because they didn't always have it.
08:18But that's what a writer's allowed to do. It's just giving a character depths.
08:23Just because you'd assume a character didn't have that hobby doesn't make it bad to give him one.
08:28So there's nothing wrong with adding a positive trait.
08:32As for why he's watching a Mexican soap opera when I'd expect someone to talk about media from the pop culture conversation of their own country.
08:39Just the fact that it's another country is a little bit of an interesting hunk.
08:43And Eggman was repeatedly established to be a hipster, so it can make sense.
08:47He doesn't like the average person and is now isolated from them.
08:51So he's got no incentive to only engage with the media that they do.
08:55There's technically nothing wrong with being a hipster. The problem is that it's seen as uncool by some people.
09:00And Eggman's supposed to be cool. Sure he was never entirely cool, just look at him in the classic era.
09:06But his technology is cool.
09:09The extent of how much it should have made the main villain of the series look pathetic was just the soot in his face from his eggmobiles getting beaten and his plans failing.
09:18How do they not think that was cathartic enough for us?
09:22Slapstick is what you should do then.
09:24Now that he can talk in the games he can get given dialogue that makes him look pathetic.
09:29But that's no reason to further the ruination.
09:32The narration says long-windedly that Eggman's Spanish had improved from the show.
09:37Which right now I don't like because he doesn't deserve it.
09:40If he abuses that to do something competent I'd say it was cool.
09:44It says he abuses it to insult people.
09:47Which is dumb since what's the point of someone who's not afraid of consequences insulting people in a language they won't even understand?
09:55That's out of character.
09:57Eventually after he sees the heroes walk into his room with stone.
10:01He wastes my time and threatens them with the drone at short circuits because of the guacamole and salsa it had inside it.
10:07Which humiliates him because he fell into old habits while failing to remember this detail.
10:13Despite the narration earlier saying he has a perfect memory.
10:16So I'm glad that was just not true.
10:19Because Eggman doesn't deserve to have a perfect memory.
10:22Why was the guacamole and salsa inside the drone instead of the drone simply carrying a plate with it in it?
10:30So this is a moment straight out of Sonic Boom.
10:33And it further proves my point because he calls it his burrito drone.
10:37And Sonic Boom also had an episode where he became a couch potato and was giving up.
10:43Eventually with his pathetic whining and the narration recapping how Sonic treats Eggman finally done.
10:49It expects me to believe this version of Sonic would look at him with an expression of pity because he's never looked worse.
10:56As Tails says.
10:58But the narration never explained how he's begun to look worse.
11:03You'd only know he got bigger from watching the film.
11:06But from what I saw it's insultingly still not fat enough.
11:10They still don't respect the source material.
11:13Eggman wasn't made fat in the games as a flaw that's supposed to make fun of him.
11:18He was made fat because it's easier for kids to draw that way.
11:23The story goes on and on having each of the heroes saying Eggman's in a sad state.
11:28And cathartically describing Eggman as embarrassed.
11:31Even though he should be used to them thinking they're superior because they do so because he's evil.
11:36And he takes pride in that.
11:38He's used to them not thinking he's cool.
11:40Stone says Eggman's been wandering the world aimlessly ever since.
11:45Even though he's in a stationary building now.
11:48I mean a stationary right now.
11:50There's no given reason for why he constantly moves the crab mech all over the world.
11:56When nobody had any way of knowing that it was there in the first place.
12:01It doesn't seem in character for Stone to criticize Eggman.
12:04Especially not in front of him.
12:06What kind of best friend would just tell your enemies you have depression unprompted?
12:11You even have to try to have them be less confused.
12:14There's enemies.
12:15Stone would let them be confused.
12:17It's definitely not in character for Eggman to not snap at him for it.
12:22The story makes him into an emo for a while.
12:25Wondering what he should do with his pointless pitiful self.
12:28Why hasn't he been trying to send drones to take the Master M mode?
12:33Knuckles has to sleep.
12:35So he should have gotten it by now and taught them to hide it somewhere more dignified than a cooler.
12:40Eggman's all about trying to take over the world by overwhelming it with robots.
12:45He's not about that in most of these films.
12:48What's his point indeed?
12:50He hasn't even gone to square one of Sonic 1 yet.
12:55And it's been a year since he met Sonic.
12:58Eventually it explains that his mustache is drooping.
13:02And takes too long to do so.
13:04Why does it think that he couldn't re-wax his mustache to not be like that when he and Stone are geniuses?
13:10Why did Eggman stay in Mexico and be exposed to Telenovelas anyways?
13:15Eventually Eggman admits that he's not a fan of what he's watching.
13:20Which makes him better than some anti-fans.
13:23And it goes back to wasting my time having him say that none of it matters anymore and he gives up.
13:29Accidentally ripping off the concept of Eggman being depressed at the end of the physical run of Sonic the comic.
13:36And that did it right while this fails to do this in a way that feels like Eggman.
13:41So instead of him being serious and bitter as a hateful main villain and planning to destroy the world because of it.
13:48He has a whining emo in front of his enemies.
13:51And what kind of a massive loser is this Eggman to have gotten like this from just two stories?
13:57He's had a year to get over it and it's not like Sonic's been constantly kicking him while he's down the whole time.
14:05Both times a different Eggman had a breakdown it was after being dethroned as world ruler.
14:11SDC Eggman still took almost a hundred issues after that to go crazy.
14:16And with Archie Eggman he was already going crazy for dozens of issues before that.
14:21The original Eggman didn't stick around to whine while flailing his arms around.
14:26He instantly tried to get away.
14:29There's more padding where at least Sonic's smart enough to still be suspicious that this is an act just in case.
14:36Where I wonder why Stone brought their mobile home to Tokyo.
14:40Eggman didn't know he was there.
14:42And somehow Eggman thinks that a true genius never has the clever plan of taking credit for another's work.
14:48And eventually Eggman gets told that happened to him.
14:51Knuckles says show him minion.
14:53And at first I thought he meant tails because this kind of authoritative lying you'd expect him to say is someone he usually has authority over.
15:00He's being worse than Eggman here because Eggman never called Stone minion.
15:05So he must have gotten it from TV.
15:08But somehow he didn't pick up on the fact that it's bad to be rude when that's one of the most common messages in fiction.
15:14If Stone's gonna be the one to prove to him that his drones were stolen.
15:19Then why did he even bother saving the heroes?
15:22It wasn't the heroes that got his mojo back.
15:26Stone looks nervously around the room instead of instantly knowing where to hook the USB drive into from how familiar he is with it from living there for a year.
15:35And in response to this the narration says that the paralyzing fear of disappointing him that Stone has isn't considered one of the advantages of him as a servant.
15:44Without explaining any ways his fear backfires.
15:47So that's out of character of Eggman to think like.
15:51Why would this tyrant not want to be feared?
15:54It says he wants to smack the fear out of them later when they're alone.
15:58How would that not make it worse?
16:00He'd be smacking him out of disappointment with them for being afraid of disappointing him.
16:05What a moron.
16:06Maybe it's because he was only punished with violence so he doesn't know or respect the other ways of expressing frustration.
16:12But since Stone doesn't have any bruises or anything.
16:15It's instantly obvious that we aren't meant to think he's being regularly hit.
16:19Which means to be out of character for feeling Eggman to consider it.
16:23Why would this be crossing the line from not the insult he gave him?
16:26And other Eggmans resort to violence against their sidekicks all the time.
16:30Game Eggman hit ergo and I could go on and on.
16:34The more versions of a character aren't like a certain way the more inaccurate it is.
16:38Because the more likely people will be confused by it.
16:41That applies to Sonic not wanting to join the resistance too.
16:45Why would the main villain of an action series with a dark premise who wants to kill the main character be the type to not instantly punish any behavior he doesn't like?
16:55He didn't clack back at Stone at all when exposed his vulnerability to the heroes for no reason.
17:01Eventually Eggman's shown footage of what his drones did earlier.
17:05And reacts how I'd expect for the most part.
17:08This monster won't call his robots his precious babies.
17:12Especially not in front of the heroes.
17:15Sonic boom tails and tails be so attached to a hypnobot that at first he didn't want to fight him.
17:20It makes more sense for tails instead.
17:22And the scene just keeps being boring.
17:25It has Sonic ask Eggman to close his robe and wince at his full splendor.
17:31I like that movie Sonic's suffering.
17:33But since movie Eggman doesn't suffer because of this.
17:36It fails at being a cathartic to dig at him.
17:38And it's instead of just fat shaming for the sake of it.
17:41When movie Eggman isn't nearly fat enough to be accurate.
17:44So Sonic has no idea how much worse it should be right now.
17:48Eggman stays confident like he's supposed to.
17:51Because he's been motivated by the thrill of finding a new purpose.
17:54Even though it's going to be a very short lived one unless he plans to torture the imposter forever.
18:00It also helps explain the appeal of telenovelists to Eggman.
18:04Because apparently they carry the message that the one constant virtue is revenge.
18:09Probably an accidental message.
18:12When you'd think they'd be constantly telling him that revenge always ends up backfiring for the person who doesn't.
18:19Because that's what usually happens to villains in fiction.
18:22But it wouldn't be the first time that someone missed out on a message.
18:26Eventually Eggman gets back to being awesome.
18:29He says that by cross-referencing the coordinates of each drone's energy.
18:34After pointless words he can determine where the imposter is.
18:38That's believable for Eggman.
18:40He types to call up a digital map on the monitor bank.
18:44He must have used keyboard shortcuts.
18:47In the middle eventually it says there's a red dot on it.
18:51It has even more padding after this.
18:53Because the heroes have to surround Eggman to intimidate him into realizing there's no way they'd let him deal with the imposter without their supervision.
19:01For once they show strong morality.
19:04I think Sonic's just trying too hard to make it look like he's a good guy.
19:08Because Sonic tried to run into Eggman to kill him as soon as he saw him again in the second movie.
19:13And that's just gone here.
19:15And it's obviously because now he's got friends and he doesn't think they'll approve of him.
19:19So why would he think it's okay for him to kill someone evil.
19:24But not okay for Eggman to kill someone evil.
19:27So he must be thinking Eggman's gonna torture him instead of kill him.
19:31Sonic taps his foot impatiently.
19:34The most Sonic-like he's ever been in these films.
19:38Eggman surprisingly keeps his dignity by wisening up.
19:42And politely admitting that he's got no chance of getting past them.
19:45Or even at running Sonic.
19:48The writers of this film at least cared enough about the material to not forget that Eggman would never get to outrun Sonic.
19:54While Yujinaka might have for the first games because he was a programmer first.
19:58Which is why he stepped down as CEO.
20:01Of course professional writers would do better at remembering characters.
20:05But that's the lowest bar.
20:07Usually these three get stuff wrong.
20:09I already assumed at this point that Eggman and Sonic were gonna team up.
20:13And it is accurate to the game.
20:15It's just happening too early.
20:17It didn't happen at the most climactic part of the story this time.
20:21Eggman doesn't have any reason to think he needs his help.
20:25He's just being scared into it.
20:27Which is more pathetic.
20:29After padding at least Eggman gets the dignity of being the one who proposed the truce.
20:34And having a plan to go back to trying to kill Sonic surprisingly early.
20:38Which hasn't been a thing in the game since Lost World.
20:42The story keeps boring me for a while.
20:44A good long while.
20:46It doesn't need to reiterate what Shadow's backstory is.
20:50To tell me that of course Shadow used to respect Gun.
20:54Eventually it says he had agreed to return to the condemned property where the last experiment involving him was held.
21:00The story goes back to wasting my time once again.
21:04Flashing back to 50 years ago.
21:06Then it gets to new information when it starts explaining that when Maria first met him.
21:10She used a marker on the glass tube he was in to draw a smile.
21:14And he felt like imitating it.
21:16He goes through the halls and remembers roller skating through them with her.
21:20And watching monster movies staying up late with her.
21:24And lying on the grass to watch the stars.
21:26So this part of the film's story is new.
21:30Especially that last part.
21:32It establishes that the Ark isn't a space station anymore.
21:36And since it's not as cool it comes off as just change for the sake of it.
21:40Which makes me wonder if it was only done for budget reasons.
21:42To avoid the effort of showing what the Ark looks like from the outside a few times.
21:46Eventually the flashback has Shadow say he doesn't feel like Earth is his home.
21:52Because the scientists are afraid of him.
21:54And it keeps going on.
21:55And eventually Maria gives him a predictable pep talk.
21:58That gets overly sappy when she points to his chest.
22:01To say she likes him for his heart.
22:03It reveals that he had known her for months.
22:06Which is different but more believable for establishing the kind of bond he had with her.
22:11And everyone assumed that was how long they knew each other in the games for that reason.
22:15Most people thought it was less sympathetic to learn that he had only known her for a week in the games.
22:20And still wanted to destroy the world from losing her.
22:23Maria was the only person in that lab who told Shadow her name.
22:27Meaning that not even Gerald did.
22:29Because somehow the game wasn't angsty enough for the writers.
22:33It eventually says she would bring him treats and draw him pictures.
22:37And showed him the joy of running.
22:39Even if it was only on a circular track.
22:42All of this is something we were never told about how Maria treated him in the game.
22:46That still feels right.
22:48She's the best part of the movie indeed.
22:50Granted not if it seems like it took a ton of effort to imagine from the writers.
22:55It's all stuff you'd expect to consider a little girl to do with them.
22:59Even the roller skating isn't original.
23:01Because in the game's canon there's nerdily obscure paratext that Maria designed Shadow's roller skates.
23:09So she was Hope Kinto Bore before Hope.
23:12Both being what you'd assume to be normal girls getting the engineering genius trait randomly put on them just because they're related to Eggman.
23:20Both times I just barely think it's good because while it's competent it's just lazy writing that doesn't really belong.
23:27I should need to explain that most people don't get the same job as their fathers or close relatives.
23:33So of course everyone's first assumption was that they were normal girls.
23:37And isn't it pretty lame that it doesn't explain what Shadow's life was like before he was sent to Earth as a teenager?
23:44It's still acting like the only people he ever knew were humans.
23:49But if she was the only friend he remembered having, how did he get amnesia?
23:55Why would the aliens send him here?
23:58Eventually there's a flashback to Walters being winded up by a lab coat wearer because Maria's scrolling messages and marker all over one of the most important labs in the world is somehow dangerous.
24:09Even though there'd be people watching the lab equipment every waking hour.
24:14Why doesn't he say the most important lab in the world?
24:17Sadly instead of explaining why Maria's actually here now that her presence was lampshaded.
24:23Walters just states the obvious that she's Gerald's granddaughter so he has to keep Gerald happy.
24:29And she keeps Shadow happy with her creative streak.
24:33The padding starts up again here.
24:35This flashback was only there for the sake of extra angstiness.
24:39It's just redundant.
24:41Do they think people have a terrible memory that'll forget that he was bullying people?
24:46Or that constantly shoving his sad backstory down your throat was mandatory to make you pity him after that?
24:52Even though it would really just get you used to it?
24:56Eventually, a big ring portal lights up the skies and Team Sonic walks through it towards a condemned property sign.
25:06It drags on boringly mostly from Eggman praising a big door until Knuckles simply punches down the massive door blocking their way.
25:14Eggman should have anticipated that because he knows Knuckles and they don't have much time.
25:20It goes right back to padding where Tails somehow thinks there's a point to stating the obvious about where they are.
25:27And Eggman teases Knuckles about being afraid of ghosts.
25:31They reach a fork in the path.
25:33So eventually Eggman wastes time somehow thinking he'd be allowed to escape supervision this way.
25:39And Sonic says while they will split up, he's not letting Eggman out of his sight.
25:44Doesn't he know he's just gonna risk Shadow attacking someone other than Sonic without him there to save him?
25:50Sonic could just carry Eggman under his arm while running through the whole base and footage exploring it in seconds.
25:57Game Sonic didn't hurt Elise when he ran with her so he can protect people from the G-Force.
26:04Even if Sonic wasn't surprisingly strong so he couldn't carry him.
26:08He could have searched the entire base in seconds and come right back.
26:13Then there's more padding during which Stone's sad about the fact that Eggman doesn't treat him like his best friend.
26:19When the past films had him completely fine with their dynamic.
26:23But this one got fed up without confusing that woods and decided to start deconstructing it instead of bothering to explain why Stone was fine with it.
26:32Like would be respectful.
26:34This just seems a little out of character.
26:36But he barely had any character to be fair.
26:39We hardly knew anything about him.
26:41And the weird narrator tries to get you to feel Bad Fragment's protege for no reason.
26:46Why should we care that someone crazy enough to partner up with Eggman with no canon explanation is sad at getting the karma for it that he should have expected?
26:55Like with Starline, the only possible reason people could come up with for why he would admire and work for Eggman is that he's attracted to him.
27:03But that's a booty shark by making you ask why.
27:06Movie Eggman isn't someone you could never imagine someone being attracted to.
27:10And he is less attractive in the third film, which would justify why Stone's unhappy with their relationship.
27:16I just never really saw the ho-ye between these two like I did with Starline in his second issue.
27:21Maybe it's because it was all cut out of the novels.
27:26I never read about any of them in a maid outfit.
27:29This guy didn't spend days awake just looking for him.
27:33All he's done is praise him.
27:36And that's just Grimer.
27:38They don't have to spend so much time talking to each other before they split up.
27:42I'm so far into the story and I feel like only two things have really happened to progress the plot.
27:48They met Shadow and made a truce with Eggman.
27:51Implicitly revealing that they assume he's better with technology than Tails because they think he'd be worth putting up with.
27:58Even Tails has to be humble enough to agree with that and be fine with it because he's not complaining at all about how redundant Eggman is with him.
28:06Like I'm glad he's not getting mad at his friends for teaming up with Eggman.
28:10I keep getting so bored I'm discouraged with how little there is to talk about.
28:15Eventually Eggman says he'd also answer to a bunch of flattering names in increasing length.
28:21When he should know Sonic would never do that.
28:24When he should know Sonic would never do that.
28:27So this only makes sense if he's just saying this to tease him.
28:30But it's not framed like that which is lame and out of character.
28:34Eventually they at last get to a room that wasn't stripped bare for parts.
28:39I like the attention to detail that the writers knew most of the rooms would have been like that by now.
28:44They get to an apartment living room.
28:47Somehow Sonic could tell by the floating dust motes that someone had recently been in this room.
28:53How convenient that Sonic went to the important room where he's the only one who's able to fight Shadow.
28:59As for why this place would have electricity, green power that's off the grid.
29:03Eventually after boringness Sonic reveals that he knows Eggman didn't have a family to grow up with.
29:09This comes out of nowhere to anyone who only read the novels.
29:13I already knew that in the first film he revealed he was from an orphanage.
29:17But why would he tell Sonic that?
29:20Eventually Eggman says that he hacked the DNA databases of the world and found out he was the only Robotnik left.
29:27That sounds like an excuse the games would come up with to try to excuse him never having any current family members get come up with.
29:36Which is really an excuse for a lack of creativity and guts.
29:40Eggman says all family ever left him was a middle initial.
29:44The last name would count too.
29:47Why isn't he also saying he never cared for his last name either?
29:51Sonic says Ivo G Robotnik and laughs at him and starts mocking him and tries to guess which insult G stands for.
29:59Which makes him obnoxious for the sake of a forced joke.
30:02Because he's insulting him for that instead of being evil.
30:06Eggman would have told him what the G stood for right away before he got a chance to do this.
30:12Eventually a thick metal door slammed shut behind Sonic specifically.
30:17Why does it bother saying it's made of metal?
30:20The story starts wasting my time some more.
30:23At least the concept of Sonic seeing Maria's drawings of her in Shadow is new.
30:28It again beats you over the head with it when it eventually tells you that the drawing has the words to my best friend Shadow love Maria on it.
30:36It was definitely an improvement to make Maria a younger girl.
30:40Because it made her more likable and increased the amount of things that could be done with her because she was more fun loving.
30:46Too bad none of those things extended beyond generic little girl things.
30:51But it's still worth being complimented because it's better than the nothing gotten instead.
30:56Two lines after another feel sorry for Shadow moment.
31:00Shadow verbally threatens to kill Sonic before it's even right before the end of the story.
31:06And he swings him around and throws him through the remaining glass of the cryo tank.
31:11What was the point if he wasn't going to get realistic consequences?
31:14And so we have to assume he's got super fast healing.
31:17Which just gets rid of any tension in his fights.
31:20He'd be bleeding from shards of glass still stuck in him.
31:24He'd be bleeding from shards of glass still stuck in him either way.
31:28But that isn't described somehow.
31:30And the force of getting thrown into it hurts less than the blow to his ego.
31:35This was just put in for shock value.
31:37And while it is new of Shadow to do.
31:40It still adds to the list of reasons he's an even more unlikable villain this time.
31:45Which really wasn't needed.
31:47Despite everyone being sick of this in IDW.
31:50Sonic once again tries to get a talk going with someone who's clearly too violent and angry to do so.
31:57The proof that Shadow had a friend before makes it more understandable.
32:01But he looks so lame here.
32:03There's no way he'd be able to talk him out of this at this point in the film.
32:07This is how the game Sonic would have treated him if he had known about his past from the start.
32:12And he hadn't been framed.
32:14And this kind of pointless frustration only demonstrates why the framing was worth writing.
32:20This is hard to watch.
32:22Shadow just wants to fight him and doesn't trust him because he naturally assumes Gun sent him to take him out.
32:28With another time jump that keeps being described as a glitch when this isn't Wreck-It Ralph.
32:34Shadow grabs Sonic to lift him into the air.
32:37Sonic bravely admits he's right but that he wants to help him now.
32:42And Shadow heartlessly points out that he should be begging for help and throws him and punches him a few times.
32:48Since Sonic's not actively trying to fight him, I don't know why he's fighting the one person other than Maria who's being nice to him.
32:55He doesn't make any sense.
32:57He's just acting like Boom Shadow.
33:00At least that had potential for humor.
33:04Because he was mad at him for failing to make a bookshelf right, apparently.
33:08Eventually Shadow hits him again but then inexplicably lets him tell him that he lost the most important person in his life before he came to Earth.
33:16But all that talking is for nothing because he just punches him to knock him out.
33:21Shadow wouldn't have been nearly as popular if he was this heartless in the game.
33:26People complained about him being an emo team since his own game.
33:30And this is all he is in the film.
33:33They're implying that that wasn't why they were mad.
33:36They just wanted an excuse to call out the games on anything at all.
33:40Even on something they barely care about.
33:43Then it goes to Eggman's point of view.
33:45And there's more boring narration for a while.
33:48It's impressive that he can use his control glove's keypad to make a display leading out of the room and into a workshop with his drones.
33:56He hugs the drones uncharacteristically.
33:59And eventually gets threatened by someone.
34:02And he ends up threatening him that'll give him a less miserable end if he shows himself.
34:07At least that was a good line except for the redundant, lacerating word.
34:12Eventually Jailed Robotniks has a code freeze that gets the drone to circle himself harmlessly.
34:18So it was smart of him to reprogram them like that.
34:22Eventually finds out that this guy is Gerald who stole his drones because it was the only way to reunite them.
34:28So now I want to know why he's here.
34:30But it does nothing but put off doing so with boring dialogue and narration.
34:35At least this is another one of those major differences that makes there be a reason to tell this story.
34:41But I really hate this scene.
34:43Even if this was a shot for shot remake of the game.
34:47You'd still have no reason to watch it instead of the game.
34:50Because it looked better in the game.
34:53But I really hate this scene.
34:55It just has them throwing trivia back at each other.
34:58It really isn't supposed to be the real world if both of them knew about an 8-bit console.
35:04Eggman should have known better than to ask his grandfather who's been away from the world for 50 years that.
35:10Because his lack of an answer wouldn't mean he wasn't his grandfather.
35:14But somehow he still knew the answer.
35:17When he had no reason to research that.
35:20This just makes him look like a creator's pet.
35:23So eventually Eggman is overjoyed at getting a grandfather.
35:26Despite being one of the most evil iterations of Eggman in the series.
35:30That grandfather still stole his robots.
35:33Eventually Gerald asks for a hug.
35:37And Eggman uncharacteristically hugs him and likes it.
35:40Because he's just that desperate.
35:42So it's like he was only lying and in a sour grapes attitude when he insulted family.
35:48At least this has novelty value going for it.
35:52But he was so evil in the movies.
35:54That there's really no reason to portray him as a Draco Leather Pants type.
35:58Nicifying of him.
36:00Because he's already entertaining in the movies.
36:03Most of the scene is boring as hell.
36:06It's mostly just talking and standing around.
36:09Eventually Gerald gets asked a stupid question.
36:12And of course says that he was in prison for years.
36:15But sadly doesn't explain how he escaped surprisingly.
36:19When this was the perfect opportunity.
36:22And after more padding.
36:24Sonic wakes up with his arms and legs tied up.
