00:00While it's not hard to be better than Sunshine Islands, this game is worse than Traded Tranquility in the major ways because it's a slower experience.
00:08Not only because time moves slower, outright stopping when you use or charge a tool, but the reason it outright feels slower is that no animal you're riding ever starts running.
00:19Nothing you can do will make traveling fast enough.
00:23Because it's so graphics intensive most places that you could put the game at 200 or 500% speed and not notice a difference.
00:33You can only run fast when the camera's top down or to the side of your character.
00:39It's like most of the game is on Gull Island.
00:42At least being nearly out of stamina or staying up all night doesn't kill your walking speed again.
00:47The game once again has a boring beginning that overwhelms me with cutscenes that tell me stuff I either already know from past games or I'd figure out on my own.
00:56For example, it tells me where to go to get to the Garmon Mines.
01:00It's got padding, there's nothing else to say.
01:03It's not fair that the first day starts at 10, because then you have less time to earn money.
01:09But it's convenient that you've got crops and flowers ready to harvest in the first day.
01:13I had to look up how to equip items.
01:17Because you can't simply equip them from the rucksack like in other games.
01:20And the ring menu is activated with the D-pad of all things when I'm used to the camera sticker X doing that.
01:26When you bring up the magical melody style ring menu for items, it always stays up and stuff still moves around you without time passing.
01:34At first I thought I could only plant one crop at a time.
01:37And I had to hold the button down by accident to find out I could charge up to plant nine at once.
01:43You're never going to waste seeds.
01:46The game has slippery controls that make watering needlessly stressful.
01:51This was also the case in Tree Tranquility, but for some reason I can't trust the control sensitivity in this game.
01:57All of the farm plots are shaped in a diagonal way, and in this game it doesn't go to a top-down perspective when you're on one.
02:04This and no camera control means it's needlessly stressful to water your crops because you always have to move diagonally to do so, so it's easier to walk onto the wrong soil tiles and do the watering wrong.
02:16When harvesting, I like that Mashing-8 has you automatically walk to the nearest crops on screen.
02:24Before ringing the red bell, you can't use a hot spring, but the excuse you're given is that it's too cold, which means you'll be lucky if you feel like using it when it's raining to see if it works.
02:35But at least it's in your farm.
02:38This is the first game with a 24-hour clock, which makes things confusing since guides still use the normal time system when telling you when to do things.
02:47What's bad level design is there'd be nothing to forage on the right side of the southeast beach of your farm, because it'll go all the way there for nothing.
02:57At least the foraging areas are all on the way to stores, and I love that if you don't pick up the foraged things, they pile up after a while.
03:09But you still have to go out of your way off the path to get stuff, and occasionally you can't pick something up at all.
03:15It's weird, though, that you can get mushrooms all year long.
03:20Convenient that you can still forage berries and mushrooms in the winter.
03:24It's so wrong that the game says fruit after the name of each berry.
03:28You buy seeds and fertilizer for one tile at a time, so you have to buy more stuff, which means it takes longer to finish being done in the seed shop.
03:39You're going to be confused at the start of the game and not buy enough seeds and stuff.
03:44And you're definitely going to be confused going back to Tree Tranquility.
03:49Shopping is not only better in that you can instantly go from 0 to 99 by pressing left on item, but it's also a lot faster buying a bunch of items at once.
03:58It's confusing to get used to, but it'll make you wish every game did this.
04:02You have to go right on item to register that you're going to buy it, and then you can do that for other items.
04:08Then when done shopping, instead of being able to press B and keep what you bought like in most games, you have to remember to press A over once and ask to pay for everything and choose yes.
04:18So you buy everything at once.
04:21It makes it feel like a real shop.
04:23It's easily the best shopping in this series.
04:25For the most part, the level design is better in this game than Tree Tranquility, because the game doesn't have a waste-of-time residential area with nothing but houses.
04:35And instead, people usually live in their stores again.
04:38And it's sort of easy to remember what stores are closed, because nearly every store in a district is closed on the same day.
04:45With the exception of the inn that's only closed on holidays.
04:47It's great that you can exit houses without having to press A every time now.
04:53And rooms as long as it's a south door.
04:56I like that there's finally a school building that's not just a part of the town hall.
05:01But I'll never take it seriously that the teacher's never in there, and yet the kids go there.
05:06The level design for Armonica Town's upper area is a confusing mess because of all the staircases.
05:13So even months in-game later, it's still hard to memorize how to get to places.
05:18The town is a store that gives you a free camera to take photos and has an option to make a portrait of you.
05:24I think it's pointless, so I always ignored it.
05:26It only means that I have to take even longer to buy everything.
05:29And it forces cutscenes on me that there's nothing to say about when my kid or a rival's kid grows up.
05:34At least I can avoid the cutscene for the rival's kid if I never go into this store again.
05:39On the modded version of the game, all the photos are black anyways.
05:43You no longer walk slower when tired.
05:46Like in Tree Tranquility.
05:48But the game doesn't have a seed maker like Sunshine Islands does.
05:52And yet it takes after it by not having part-time work to make the beginning easier anymore.
05:58Of course, items no longer have a bunch of rankings for stuff like freshness and size in this game.
06:04So they always stack when you put them away.
06:07Too bad they got rid of having four item slots.
06:10This is decent lettuce from soil fertilized three times the day before.
06:18And that was my last opportunity to get good lettuce for Ruth.
06:21Fertilizer feels like it works less in this game.
06:25And I looked it up as a result.
06:26I tested it at one point and used a bunch of shining fertilizer and harvested the results.
06:33Then reloaded and harvested without fertilizing.
06:36And I ended up with a similar amount of decent crops and even more good crops without it.
06:40This footage shows the second test where they became perfect.
06:44For no reason, there's now five soil qualities instead of the three from Tree of Tranquility.
06:52And for some reason, fertilizer wears off after two weeks of having crops in the soil.
06:57And on GameFAQs, it says it takes a month to wear off instead.
07:00Considering that past games let you plant potatoes from the start,
07:05it's bullshit that you have to unlock potatoes and the game doesn't tell you how.
07:10But the game makes up for it by having the overpowered strawberries be available from the start of the game.
07:16Although as usual, it balances it by having them be ridiculously expensive.
07:21This seems to be the first game where after you get rid of wet soil and then till the same tiles,
07:26those tiles stay watered.
07:27You can't tell if wet soil needs fertilizer though, but it's still saving me time watering.
07:33So that really impressed me, more than anything else in the game.
07:37I hate that once again you can't buy the fishing rod and you don't start out with it,
07:42even though you start out with other tools, so there's really no excuse.
07:46Time is frozen when fishing, which means that if you spend all day fishing, the day takes forever.
07:53The worst part about fishing in this pair of games is that if you get one more item,
07:57than your inventory holds, instead of being able to hold it anyways like the previous games,
08:02you're expected to throw one of your items away or throw it away, and this sneaks up on you.
08:09Normally, if your inventory is full, you can't pick it up at all.
08:12In this game, you can still put something in the bonfire even if it makes a failed dish.
08:17So if you remember Grilled Clam from Tree of Tranquility, you'll be disappointed if you try to make it.
08:25At least you can make a bonfire wherever again.
08:28But if you don't get rid of the bonfire, the next morning the mayor wastes your time lecturing you for it.
08:35And I'm just wondering how he even knew about it.
08:38Again, I love that you can put anything in your toolbox now.
08:43Why do I have to buy an incubator from an unlockable place?
08:49It's great that you have a barn and coop from day one again.
08:53The game never tells you you can get a cow from going to Kane's barn,
08:57or that saying you're not ready for it means you can't get it.
08:59It's great that you can buy fully grown animals.
09:04You can only buy fully grown animals after leveling up the animal shop.
09:10Once again, pressing start when naming doesn't bring the courser to select.
09:14What's also a potential waste of time is default names are back.
09:19I like being able to pet animals, but hate when I can't see the hand actually make contact with them.
09:25Why do I have to press A twice to get to pet one?
09:28I have to wait to learn if they're hungry.
09:32Barn animals only let you hand feed them outside.
09:35So you'd only discover you could from stubbornness after being used to magical melody.
09:40That sucks, because hand feeding always raises affection more.
09:44The animals can spend all day outside with a lot of grass growing,
09:48and still a few of them won't eat anything.
09:50So I always have to check which ones ate before going to bed,
09:54which means even more loading screens.
09:56Unlike in Tree Tranquility, you can't go inside and have all of them eat.
10:02It sucks that the animals graze on your crops.
10:06It means you have to water all the crops before putting them out to graze,
10:10which means it would take even longer for the mulch to finish eating.
10:13Like in Tree Tranquility, it's better to just grill fish,
10:17because making more money from cooking is too complicated with a fish when it comes to making sashimi.
10:23And you have to manually bring cooking utensils to the kitchen.
10:28Ever since Tree Tranquility, you can't choose where the kitchen is anymore.
10:31As usual, what ruins cooking as an experience is that you can't cook more than one at a time.
10:38You can't cook by choosing a recipe either, which also applied to Tree Tranquility.
10:44You can't press a button to go from the rucksack to the slot with already selected ingredients in back to cook faster.
10:50Usually, cooking in this game is convenient because the most commonly made recipes were carried over from Magical Melody,
10:57and you don't have to learn a recipe in-game to make it.
10:59Which means you don't get to buy it anymore if you learned it from making it or pressing A in a house at a certain part of it.
11:05It's good that getting recipes is once again pointless instead of required to cook at all.
11:10The recipe list in the bookshelf doesn't bother saying how much money the recipes go for,
11:15or anything goes for, causing you to look up a guide.
11:18You can still cook while holding things now.
11:22It's just that every so often you'll accidentally open the prompt to eat, or drink, or put down.
11:27The game also tricks you into making a failed recipe because all the other berries let you make jam from two of them,
11:34but not cranberries.
11:36In the description of cranberries, it says it can be made into jam, but can't.
11:41And I'm lucky I never thought to try to make strawberry juice.
11:44It's total bullshit that using a banana in a mixer gets you a failed recipe again.
11:50Why do you have to see a broken heart after shearing?
11:52Why can't you shear sheep or milk from behind or the front anymore?
11:57That'd have been faster.
11:59It sucks that you have to wait for an animal to sit up for a second after you choose to interact with it if it was sitting down.
12:04Why are they programmed to sit down?
12:07Again, there's only 28 days in the months.
12:11I like getting a rank and 50 and then 70 good fertilizer at the end of each month.
12:16What you get depends on how much you've shipped the most.
12:20But the fertilizers don't absolutely guarantee you'll get a crop of the rank associated with the fertilizer,
12:25like I naturally expected from what they're named.
12:29I hate that they made crop quality more random instead of skill-based for no reason.
12:35Fertilizer works perfectly in Magical Melody.
12:37With it being so lame, it's actually better to get food as a reward at the end of the month because you can ship it.
12:44The reward for getting a super rancher rank is 60 pies that you can sell to make over 60,000 G.
12:52It feels like in an immediate reward sense, the game's got a better reward for that ranking.
12:55Earlier games didn't waste your time making you go to the side of the cow to milk it if you tried milking the wrong part of it.
13:03The game shouldn't let you do an animation with a milker for a cow already milked,
13:07when it doesn't make you do an animation if you try to milk something you can't.
13:11But I love that no stamina is used uptending to your animals.
13:15The game makes you turn away from a maker every time you use it to make things take longer.
13:20When it comes to the makers, the DS games let you convert the entire stack of stuff you're carrying at once.
13:27But in this game, it's still one at a time.
13:30I hate being able to see the music note over hungry animals.
13:34Animals get stressed every day.
13:36Apparently, two consecutive days of that means they get sick.
13:40Eventually, I assume the stress was because either they weren't going outside,
13:44or by the time I put them inside, the bell wakes them up because they're asleep.
13:47In Tree Tranquility, they went inside because you went to sleep.
13:53This is unfair to the players who are always going to stay up late.
13:57I've read that the reason they get cranky is because you don't pet them every day.
14:03It's already a punishment that you aren't raising their affection as much by not petting them every day.
14:08But I'm willing to take that for a faster experience.
14:13Like in Tree Tranquility, for no reason, eggs aren't laid outside anymore.
14:17There aren't different rankings for duck and ostrich mayonnaise.
14:21Which means the game tricks new players who don't follow a guide into not making as much money.
14:27They would be anyways, because boiling non-perfect eggs and non-perfect milk
14:31is more profitable than using them the makers are not doing that, sadly.
14:36Mushroom soup's more profitable than hot milk.
14:39Turns out you can milk sheep every three days.
14:43I only found out in the winter, because I didn't expect the milkers to be able to do that,
14:49and didn't think its description would contain any new info after all these games.
14:54I wish that I could have been shown that sheep milk existed from an unavoidable cutscene that's short.
14:58For example, the mayor should have given me some.
15:03I hate that when someone's in the mining district of town and you track them,
15:06you're told he's in the mines, making you instinctively check inside the mine,
15:11which might be a waste of time.
15:13If it just says mine, the character is in the mine.
15:17How would Renee teleport from the fishery to her ranch?
15:20The game doesn't program Renee as walking from the fishery back home.
15:25Mining's like it is in Tree Tranquility.
15:27It's a challenge to precisely aim your hammer at the rocks,
15:31because they're so small considering how slippery the controls are.
15:36If you pick the opposite direction to walk in the mines,
15:40it's like Mario 64.
15:42And you don't know whether it's going to be left or right.
15:45This error could send you into a pit.
15:48After choosing the leave mine option,
15:51which is also conveniently in the forest every time you try to leave the screen,
15:54you still need to walk through the unnecessary first room.
15:59Reloading a save stay a hundred times while hitting the same rock
16:01reveals that each rock in the mine is coded to have a chance of only giving you some types of ores and wonderfuls.
16:08So you can't even hit the same rock till you get a gold ore.
16:11The rocks in there that take more hits to smash never give you ores.
16:16While it's good that you can increase the amount of stone materials you have in the mine and the forest with these,
16:21I'd rather they not have the material in the game.
16:24I hate that pearls and mushrooms seem to look the same on the floor.
16:28There's a hot spring in two of the mines at least.
16:30It's confusing that there's two white gases and one's for speeding up
16:34and the other's for slowing you down so that you actually control well.
16:38Like in Tree Tranquility, the gases don't spring up by spreading away from the source slowly like in Magical Melody.
16:44They stay where they are only briefly and then disappear from there and go in other places,
16:49which makes it easy to not activate the gas effect even when you want to,
16:53but also makes it harder to avoid it.
16:56And the healing gas doesn't heal nearly as much as it did in Magical Melody.
17:01I'm sure that applied to Tree Tranquility too,
17:05but there was so much wrong with that game that I couldn't have possibly said everything about it.
17:09And it's confusing that the healing gas is green, not the cold gas.
17:14Colds are much more common in this game.
17:16I went my entire playthrough of Tree Tranquility without ever getting a cold.
17:21But having a cold doesn't seem to do anything.
17:23It's not like it constantly makes you stop what you're doing to sneeze,
17:27and I don't notice it making my stamina decrease more when I use tools or over time.
17:33I only get the cold medicine because I feel sorry for the character.
17:37I'm sure it does make your stamina decrease more.
17:40At least, I remember reading that in Tree Tranquility,
17:43but I never noticed a difference in this game.
17:46Having colds in the game for the sake of adding realism is pointless if they
17:49are only achieved by magical cold-causing gas in the mine, instead of appearing at random.
17:55Don't annoyingly require a constant supply of tissues to get out and use,
17:59and don't annoyingly make you stop and sneeze a lot.
18:02And as I also worried would be the case,
18:04don't make your crops or animal products get tainted from your sneezing or make your animals sick.
18:09I'm glad they're not like that.
18:12But what I just described is why you shouldn't have colds in video games.
18:17Remedies don't cure colds,
18:19even though the description of one says they cure the effects of mind gas.
18:23In Magical Melody, you could walk over cracks sometimes and not fall or be set up,
18:28but you're practically guaranteed to break the crack no matter what in this game.
18:33If you're sent to another floor, then the ores on the floor disappear,
18:37even though the game remembers how many rocks are left on each floor.
18:41That was the case in the previous game, too.
18:43This is probably from Sunshine Islands,
18:45but your character doesn't become drowsy from eating 14 mushrooms anymore.
18:49I figured out where they put that in Tree Tranquility, though.
18:52It's supposed to encourage you to bring cooked items.
18:56The first mine is the least likely to give you anything from the rocks,
18:59so at that point in the game, you'll be better off continuing foraging
19:02because it's a guaranteed profit.
19:05With mining early on, you could risk only finding a few ores.
19:09I needed a guide to know to get the accessory shop that refines ores up and running again.
19:14The instructions for this were in the manual in Tree Tranquility,
19:17but nobody reads the manuals before they play games like this.
19:21You want to experience it for yourself.
19:23I wouldn't be surprised if the manual told you to do this, too.
19:26But I doubt it tells you which dialogue to choose.
19:30I had to pick the right dialogue tree options with Mera when she was specifically in the church.
19:35Now the accessory and ore refining place in blacksmiths are two separate shops,
19:39so you have to wait through even more loading times than Tree Tranquility.
19:44It turns out every ore in Wonderful can produce something.
19:47The fact that you have to play roulette
19:49to get something refined successfully,
19:52complete with having to pay for it per ore,
19:56is one of the biggest problems with the game.
19:58You can save scum before every refining.
20:02All the console games make the mistake of not letting you save wherever you want.
20:06It's better with save states,
20:08but it's far less frustrating to just take the loss.
20:10And only save scum for the golden rare metal.
20:14Golden rare ore is way too rare.
20:17You aren't forced to refine every single thing in your inventory at once anymore.
20:22Because you can press A twice to separate an item from its stack,
20:26any wonderful of a color can produce anything associated with that color.
20:31In Tree Tranquility, you have to go all the way to damn near the bottom of the mine
20:34to get the rarest three-sparkled gems,
20:38which can take a ridiculous amount of time
20:40even when not breaking every rock on the way.
20:44Maybe I didn't upgrade the accessory store all the way,
20:46but there's only a pearl ring option,
20:48not a diamond ring option.
20:50Oh, I didn't.
20:52Why in the world do you need to upgrade it for that?
20:54She'd already know how to do diamond rings.
20:58She's been in the business for years.
21:01Many accessories require enough ores to be shipped first.
21:05Now you can buy an accessory for someone else again.
21:08This means having to press A another time
21:10every time you ask to see the accessory so you can say it's for you.
21:14Sadly, the blacksmiths need to upgrading too.
21:18And you need to progress the actual story to do so,
21:21which you would never expect.
21:22You'd end up looking up a guide,
21:25wondering why the hell you can't upgrade your tools all the way.
21:28Well, in Tree Tranquility,
21:30you could ignore all the rainbows and still have just good a time.
21:34When you upgrade the blacksmiths,
21:36there's an unnecessary cutscene to tell me it's upgraded.
21:40In Tree Tranquility,
21:41you didn't have to take a million years
21:42to get the best tools in the game.
21:45You could just buy everything from the general store
21:47from the first day if you had enough money.
21:50But this game completely removes the option
21:52to buy tools from the general store.
21:55Because as usual,
21:56they're confusing harder game
21:58with better game.
22:01One of the reasons it is a better game
22:03is you can use less stamina for a tool
22:05if you use it enough.
22:07And you need three metals upgrade tools now.
22:10The level 2 skill is only one more square,
22:13and the level 3 one is only one more square.
22:16While the best hammer does make mining easier,
22:19it also makes it a little more stressful
22:20because you have to consider
22:21when to use its best skill,
22:23and sometimes it's just not necessary.
22:25Eventually,
22:26the tailor says
22:27she could upgrade your rucksack
22:28in exchange for gifts
22:30that you were already collecting.
22:32And you can give all 10 herbs needed at once
22:34to the tailor to get the new rucksack.
22:37She gives you new rucksacks
22:38without a time skip.
22:40Which means she already made them
22:42by the time you gave her all that stuff.
22:44But at least that's faster.
22:47You can only get it
22:47after ringing the yellow bell.
22:50Not that guides say that.
22:52So I had a miserable time
22:53trying to get footage for this
22:55and repeatedly failing.
22:58I know you can buy all the materials
23:00for the rucksack upgrades
23:01and tree tranquility
23:02at the festivals,
23:04but it's really not instinctive
23:05to check to see if you can
23:06buy stuff at festivals.
23:09So that's a second playthrough thing for me.
23:12I won't know to buy
23:13all the ingredients
23:14for the rucksack upgrade
23:16before you meet Shelly.
23:18At which point it's too late.
23:21The hot spring uses no time
23:23and is on your farm
23:24close to your house.
23:25But it doesn't restore
23:26all of your stamina
23:27from near empty.
23:29And gives you a text box
23:30every time you use it
23:31for no reason.
23:33When you try using
23:33the hot spring a second time,
23:35the game wastes your time
23:36going to black screen
23:37and then back
23:38just for you to be told
23:39it was already used.
23:41But at least it
23:42tells you that it's already used
23:44faster than tree tranquility did.
23:47The game never tries
23:48to properly justify
23:49the one day limit.
23:52The spring's still steaming.
23:54Getting the best rucksack
23:56is no longer unfair.
23:58It no longer requires
23:59shining silk.
24:00The worst it requires
24:01is wool of a quality
24:03that's no big deal
24:04compared to waiting forever
24:05to get a shining anything.
24:06You can buy the rest
24:08of what you want
24:09or get it yourself.
24:11I'd still rather get to
24:12buy better rucksacks
24:13like in other games.
24:15Every time you unlock
24:16new items at a store,
24:17you have to sit through
24:18a boring cutscene
24:19about it at the store
24:20when you already got
24:22sent a letter about them.
24:24How was I supposed to know
24:25you get tree fruit
24:26by walking into the tree?
24:28I got none
24:29from the default tree
24:30in my farm
24:31for an entire year
24:32until the next summer.
24:34Even then,
24:34it can take two attempts
24:35to get fruit to fall.
24:37At least you can get it daily.
24:40That doesn't make up
24:40for a year without any fruit
24:42because you weren't told
24:42how to get the fruit
24:43or the fact that
24:44you weren't told
24:45the trees originally
24:46on your farm
24:46produced fruit.
24:48It's better to cut them down
24:49anyways
24:50because it's more profitable
24:52to have multi-harvest crops
24:53on every square
24:55than to have trees
24:56only profitable
24:57once a season.
24:59Watering tall crops
25:00like tomatoes
25:01and corn
25:02is really stressful
25:03because it's hard
25:05to tell whether
25:05you've watered the soil.
25:07And the tall crops
25:08are the most profitable ones.
25:11It's where the cucumbers
25:12are back to being
25:12single-harvest.
25:14Typhoons get rid of
25:15way more of your crops
25:17than the tree tranquility.
25:19It can get rid of
25:20thousands of G worth
25:21of seeds through plant
25:22with no way to avoid that
25:24because there's no
25:25seed maker.
25:26Replanting after
25:27is a nightmare
25:28especially since
25:28the tall plants
25:29are in the way
25:30and now hitting plants
25:32with their host
25:32stuns it for a few seconds
25:34like in Tree Tranquility.
25:36Not like that's new.
25:38Good thing you can't
25:38use up a seed
25:39by planting in the wrong place.
25:42I replayed
25:42Tree Tranquility recently
25:44and I don't remember
25:44ever having to do this.
25:47Imagine how much
25:47you'd want to quit the game
25:48after multiple typhoons
25:50in a row.
25:51There's no greenhouse
25:52in this game.
25:53When you get a big animal
25:55to five hearts
25:56you can ride it.
25:58You'll do it for two seconds
25:59and stop
26:00because it's slower
26:01than walking and running.
26:03The wiki doesn't tell you
26:04that hearts equals speed
26:05this time around
26:06but the FAQ does.
26:08But they're still
26:11never fast
26:12no matter what.
26:13There's too much slowdown.
26:15Even the horse
26:15takes five hearts
26:17to let you ride it.
26:18Even though that's
26:19what it's for.
26:21The horse is so
26:22agonizingly slow
26:23that I timed it.
26:24I tried riding a sheep
26:26with max hearts
26:26and it was still
26:27just as slow.
26:29You'd think a game
26:29called Animal Parade
26:31would improve the animals.
26:32not make it so that
26:34you can only have
26:34three species at a time
26:36in a barn
26:36and make animal riding lame
26:38when it'd be a selling point
26:40of the game.
26:41It's 50 seconds faster
26:43without the horse
26:44to forge all of flute fields.
26:47The time when riding
26:48an animal for it
26:49was 1550.
26:51It was 1510
26:52without riding.
26:54Of course
26:55having to get off
26:55the animal doesn't help.
26:57It's weird then
26:58that info about the game
26:59insists the horse
27:00is twice as fast as walking.
27:02This is a problem for me
27:04even when I'm sped up.
27:06I timed how long
27:07it takes to get
27:08from one point to another
27:09with a 10 second minimum
27:10with and without riding.
27:12And riding is basically
27:13the same speed.
27:15I sold the horse.
27:17It's unacceptable
27:18and embarrassing
27:18that in a game
27:19called Animal Parade
27:20I had to spend
27:21the whole game
27:22with the normal animals.
27:24In Trader Tranquility
27:25goats were more profitable
27:27than cows.
27:28Which isn't something
27:29you'd expect
27:30after a wonderful life.
27:32Having to have
27:32normal animals
27:33isn't so bad
27:34if they're the most
27:35profitable ones.
27:37But it doesn't
27:38make any sense.
27:40Speaking of the barn
27:41there's now two upgrades
27:42for the barn and coop.
27:44But it's not like
27:44the level 3 upgrade
27:45lets you have more animals
27:47than the max barn
27:48usually has.
27:49It just means
27:50the level 2 barn and coop
27:51only have a tiny increase
27:52in the animal maximum.
27:54So having a third level
27:55doesn't mean anything
27:56but having to spend
27:57more money
27:57and cut more lumber
27:58and smash more rocks
28:00than you would have to
28:00in other games.
28:02Why do you need to get
28:02to level 3 to be allowed
28:03to buy an ostrich
28:04or silkworm?
28:06Well it's great that
28:07recipes aren't a separate
28:08thing when it comes
28:10to shipping anymore.
28:11I thought that was
28:12too good to be true.
28:14So you can still upgrade
28:15the animal shop
28:16by selling
28:17boiled eggs.
28:19The game brings back
28:19automatic lumbering
28:21as long as you keep
28:21using the axe
28:22after getting rid
28:23of some wood.
28:24Occasionally the automation
28:25doesn't kick in
28:26and you walk over branches
28:28so it's harder to chop
28:29them when that happens
28:30because if you're
28:30standing over one
28:31you'll miss it
28:32and inexplicably do
28:33a horizontal axe swing
28:35that shouldn't have been
28:35in the game
28:36when it comes to
28:37hitting ground wood
28:38anyways.
28:40There's no way
28:41to get lumber
28:41unless you chop
28:42trees or stumps
28:44which you can do
28:45on day one
28:45but you don't get
28:46to go into the forest
28:47until later.
28:49Older games let you
28:49find branches all over
28:51and chop them
28:51from day one.
28:53Also when you charge
28:54up a lot with the axe
28:55even though you spin
28:56you still can't
28:57chop up surrounding
28:58stuff
28:59just what's in front
29:00of you.
29:01You can't chop
29:02a line of branches
29:03in front of you
29:04from charging
29:05like in the previous
29:06game.
29:07Lame.
29:08Unlike in Magical Melody
29:09you can barely tell
29:09the difference
29:10between the charge ups
29:11so you have to count
29:12how many flashes
29:13there were.
29:15I love that the
29:16Carpenters does
29:17instant renovation
29:18and building
29:18that caught me
29:19off guard.
29:21The game design
29:22is so bad
29:23that they felt
29:23the need to make
29:24an ostrich incubator
29:26instead of letting
29:26you incubate ostrich
29:28eggs with a regular
29:29incubator.
29:30They did that
29:30in Tree of Tranquility
29:31too.
29:33Also don't buy goats.
29:35Common sense
29:36would make you expect
29:36their milk to be better
29:37because they're
29:38available later
29:39in the game
29:39and they were
29:40the best animal
29:41in Tree of Tranquility
29:42but their milk's
29:43actually less profitable
29:44than cow milk.
29:46At least it hints
29:47at it if you look
29:48at the sales prices
29:49of the various milks.
29:50Another thing
29:52that's new
29:52to this game
29:53is that you can
29:53brush an ostrich
29:55which means
29:56you're obligated
29:56to brush it
29:57every single day
29:58until you can
29:59ride it.
30:00I'd rather his
30:01affection raise
30:01faster without
30:02needing a brush.
30:04It sucks
30:05that barnyard animals
30:06die in just
30:07two and a half years
30:08no matter how
30:08much you reload.
30:10Even if you stay
30:11up to 6am in the mine
30:13Finn will tell you
30:14that your animal
30:14is dying anyways.
30:16Another reason
30:17for me to hate him.
30:18Because my plan
30:19to wait until
30:208am and sell
30:21the animal
30:21was foiled
30:22because of him.
30:23I'd swear
30:24the animals
30:24are hard coded
30:25to die on Thursdays.
30:27Because this
30:28happened to me
30:28twice
30:29just so I
30:30couldn't sell it.
30:31The game
30:32doesn't randomize
30:32what it's supposed to.
30:34In other games
30:35reloading before
30:36going to sleep
30:36would save your animal.
30:39You can't sell
30:40livestock over the phone
30:41for no reason.
30:43Grapes grow
30:44in the field.
30:45Pumpkins are
30:46multi-harvest fall
30:47crops that are
30:47better than yams
30:48this time.
30:50It takes forever
30:50to get new clothes
30:51and have to wait
30:52until the first fall
30:53to get more.
30:54You'd think you
30:55only have to wait
30:55a month.
30:57You can order them
30:58over the phone
30:59but that's obtuse
31:00and since it's
31:00double priced there
31:01you are forced
31:02to wait until fall
31:02to save money.
31:05They're mostly
31:05tomboyish
31:06and there's no
31:06fully black clothes
31:08or purple ones
31:09for the girl
31:10at least.
31:11It's bad enough
31:13that the default
31:13autumn outfit
31:14is an ugly brown
31:15jacket.
31:16At least they aren't
31:17forced to not
31:18wear an outfit
31:18just because it's
31:19no longer
31:19spring or summer.
31:21Clothes in the style
31:22of the default
31:23female outfit
31:24make you wish
31:24they didn't have
31:25sleeves and apart
31:26the covers
31:26of belly button.
31:29The only fully
31:30red shirt
31:30for the guys
31:31is the sporty
31:32outfit
31:33and that's not
31:34quite red enough
31:35and what if I don't
31:36want an outfit
31:36that's associated
31:37with sports?
31:39Why isn't there
31:39a clothing guy
31:40option?
31:41Or at least
31:42a way to sell
31:43your clothes.
31:44That applied
31:44to Tree of Tranquility
31:45too.
31:47You have to select
31:48clothes to see
31:49them so you always
31:50select the wrong
31:50ones until you
31:51memorize the names
31:52of the good ones.
31:54Especially in the
31:54mod version where
31:55the game doesn't
31:56bother displaying
31:56the names of the
31:57clothes you actually
31:58get.
31:59This applies to
32:00Tree of Tranquility
32:01too.
32:02The first day
32:03of winter
32:03not only did
32:04all my grass seeds
32:06die but some
32:07rocks and boulders
32:08covered my field
32:09when it wasn't
32:10a blizzard out.
32:11It happened
32:12again the last
32:13day.
32:14While you can
32:14plant crops in
32:15the winter at
32:15least that doesn't
32:16excuse never being
32:17able to grow any
32:18crops you want
32:19when even the
32:20earliest games
32:21let you.
32:22And this would
32:22have made cooking
32:23every recipe
32:24much easier.
32:26How are you
32:26supposed to know
32:27when you start
32:27the game that you
32:28have to hoard crops
32:30for next year
32:31when the game
32:32never tells you
32:32there's no
32:33greenhouse in it?
32:35Sure you
32:35wouldn't see one
32:36in the carpenter's
32:37shop but this is
32:38the game where
32:38you have to
32:39upgrade the
32:39shops for some
32:40reason.
32:41So you just
32:42assume that you
32:42have to upgrade
32:43the shop to get
32:44the greenhouse
32:45option.
