00:00It's hard to remember that every time I buy a seed after I got the toolbox, it doesn't go in my bank.
00:05And when I get food after having a fridge, same thing.
00:09I always expect stuff to be in my bag when I buy them.
00:12So there's a lot of times when I try to plant a seed after I buy it, and then have to go back home.
00:19It's such lazy programming.
00:22Like how you don't get a gift from the witch princess if you're already holding something.
00:27I plant the squares of crops right below and above each other.
00:33It may be a bit more annoying to harvest them that way because I have to go around the square of crops after jumping into it,
00:38and I have to make sure I can always access the corner crops.
00:42Why can't you harvest diagonally?
00:45With this planting technique, I can have a lot more crops in a smaller space.
00:49I just have to make sure there's one line of grass to the right and left of every square.
00:54I just got a giant crop.
00:56The amount of dialogue that I have to tediously hold and cross A food because of this crop is needlessly long.
01:04Why can't I just harvest it like all of the other crops?
01:08How'd the mayor know to come here anyways?
01:11And he calls every single harvest brites to him individually.
01:15And you have to see the reaction of every single one.
01:19And both of the screens go black with only character portraits at the bottom screen and text.
01:23I always imagined you'd get to see the giant crop being pulled out.
01:29It better be worth a lot.
01:31Because a giant crop existing means that a few of the crops around it are tilled off.
01:36Which is even more frustrating if all of your crops are multi-harvest ones.
01:41Can't giant crops not be an inconvenience?
01:43You can't see two heart events for the same person on the same day for some asinine reason.
01:51So we've got Cheetah out of the giant crop cutscene for Mary.
01:55I criticize the blue heart event.
01:57Because to get our event, you have to get a giant crop which is a 1 out of 255 chance.
02:03And harvest it on Monday specifically.
02:07How long would it take for you to do that by accident?
02:11I love that I can get all the single characters to get together if I want.
02:16Without needing to befriend for it.
02:18Look it up.
02:20If I try to show it on the screen all at once, it's too blurry for you to see.
02:24So I'd have to show it in parts.
02:27So because you don't need to befriend for it, it's a lot easier to get everyone married.
02:31How are you supposed to know that though?
02:35Most players are going to assume they have to befriend them anyways.
02:39I should have owned an entire section just to glitches.
02:43Gaunt ignores fodder not in a silo.
02:47It does secretly do you a favor by not having to resort to fodder buildings after all.
02:53Unless you weren't even bothering collecting any lumber or stone.
02:57And then you'll just get the silo anyways.
03:00It's a good thing it barely costs anything to get, material wise.
03:06If you're keeping stuff in your bag or your shelf, you can hold way more than just 999 fodder.
03:14So it's stupid that you have to rely on the silo.
03:17When if you have it, it becomes impossible to have more than 999 fodder.
03:22Unless you take it out of the barn first and hide a bunch of it in your shelf.
03:26This is always how fodder has been handled.
03:29I would just expect better at this point.
03:32The basket holds more than 999 stuff.
03:37It's lame that if you pick ingredients and then choose back, you're guaranteed to cook a failure.
03:42I remember one time my game froze because I jumped over something in the rain at night near the excavation site.
03:49And my mining list doesn't like to open.
03:52When I went to bed one night in the game, the screen stayed blank.
03:56The second time the game froze on me.
03:57I've never seen a Harvest Moon game be like this, even on the latest version.
04:04After the cutscene where the mayor was in my house in the 25th of winter,
04:08both when it happened the first time and when I reloaded the file,
04:12my bottom screen stayed blank.
04:14I remember reading that the file can get corrupted by saving when there's too much action on the screen outside.
04:20So the file can corrupt if you save the game in a place with a lot of moving characters,
04:25like the sprite tree.
04:27I bet that's too random to replicate though.
04:30Yes, that's true.
04:31Or maybe on emulators it doesn't happen.
04:33I have had a corrupted file before, but I can't prove it because on emulator,
04:40files load regardless.
04:42That's how someone recovered his file after he saved when he had the phishing team hired.
04:51I can't believe they would release a less glitchy version of the game
04:55and not fix the file corrupting glitch.
04:58Most of the only glitches they fixed were ones that let you earn tons of money.
05:03Like the one where you can brush the horse with a touch glove and switch to a milker to milk it.
05:08I also hate the glitch where sometimes you can't save at 5.50am.
05:13There's also a glitch on the floor right before Kira.
05:16If you save there and reload,
05:18it'll be impossible to get to her that day.
05:21I've heard that if you lose the cooking festival,
05:24you're guaranteed to lose every single time afterwards.
05:28In the girl version of the game,
05:29the game will freeze after you enter the Oven Cooking Festival.
05:34The cooking festival's only reward is 100 farm degree points.
05:40If you plant multiple seeds of the same type in one place,
05:44then some of the resulting crops will be a level higher.
05:48Buying extra seeds for this is expensive,
05:50so really this isn't a must-do strategy until you get a makershed and buy a seed maker.
05:55You can get crops all the way up to level 100.
06:00What sucks is that the shipping list accounts for every level,
06:04so technically you're never going to complete the shipping list.
06:08So I only bothered trying to do it after I did everything else.
06:11The game should have had someone in the village tell you
06:14the shipping prices of a level 1, level 2 pineapple,
06:17and level 100 pineapple on the first day,
06:21and how to level up your crops.
06:24Good thing you can get more than one greenhouse.
06:27It's a pathetically small greenhouse,
06:30which is restricted to one season at a time.
06:34The signs to change the greenhouse season are in the third mine.
06:38That's weird.
06:39In Harvest Moon 64, you could have any crop in the greenhouse.
06:45You didn't need a specific season for the entire greenhouse.
06:50And why the hell is there a winter sun
06:51when there's nothing to grow in the winter in this game?
06:55It was also baffling that the amount of money needed to get the final basement built
06:59was more than the amount needed for the other basements.
07:02Because it's of the same quality as the other two.
07:04You need a legendary sword from the bottom of one of the mines equipped
07:09to get rid of the unbreakable boulder near the water foam.
07:13At first I wasted stamina using the sword on them to no effect with the tool button.
07:18But instead you have to press A in front of it with the legendary sword equipped.
07:22No time passes in the cave and that's awesome.
07:26The crops only grow one day faster.
07:29So I don't care unless it's sweet potatoes that are growing.
07:32But it's not a greenhouse like your basement.
07:35So it's useless in the winter.
07:37And you can't grow trees there.
07:38That's actually wrong.
07:41You just can't grow fruit.
07:44So they shouldn't have let you grow them at all.
07:47Why wouldn't they grow fruit in the basement anyways?
07:51Yeah that's another thing you'd only know about because of a god.
07:54And I'm just lucky I assumed it was the case.
07:58And that was only because I didn't have faith in the game.
08:00You can have the freedom to plant orange trees on every property if you want.
08:07Your trees can randomly die through no fault of your own.
08:11That's because when it's raining there's a random chance of a tree being destroyed.
08:16How did my farm name in Harvest Moon DS get renamed?
08:21It turns out if you read one wiki page you'll learn that after your pass of Prentice level 10
08:26your farm gets a secondary name every year.
08:30And you get a new title depending on which bachelorette likes you the most.
08:35It doesn't feel satisfying when my farm degree rank is changed.
08:39Because I'm not told it happened and I can't figure out why.
08:43Conspiracy doesn't sound like a name you'd get randomly as a reward.
08:48It seems more like a punishment for cheating.
08:51Once you've unlocked the 7th brushing sprite.
08:54Then those sprites start watering your crops as well.
08:58So that's awesome.
08:59And once you've unlocked the 7th red sprite.
09:02They start harvesting as well.
09:04If only I was told that from the start.
09:07But that should have been the case from the start.
09:09Because the start is the most daunting.
09:12Shipping enough stuff unlocks a trivia game on the Harvest Sprite channel screen.
09:16But while most of the questions are really easy ones if you've played a lot of friends in Mineral Town and Wonderful Life.
09:24There's a few translation errors that make the answers more puzzling to choose from.
09:28Why do I still need to get a pond built to unlock ducks if you buy the ducks from the poultry barn and the ducks always stay in the coop anyways?
09:42Typhoons or blizzards can magically blow the pond away.
09:48After you unlock ducks and even their waste of time.
09:53The pond is a waste of space on the farm.
09:56Ducks are like chickens except they only lay an egg every second day.
10:00And it's not like the eggs are slightly more than twice as valuable as chicken eggs.
10:06So ducks are useless.
10:09I only knew about the doghouse minigame by happening to see it online.
10:13If you press A when your character is facing the back of the doghouse for no reason at 4 for 4am.
10:19Which is needlessly difficult because the game only displays 440 and 450 like in Friends of Mineral Town for no reason.
10:27You get to fight one of the bachelorettes.
10:29The game doesn't tell you right away that attacking them doesn't decrease the affection of the actual character.
10:37It's a good thing you can heal in it.
10:40It's annoying that you can't see how much HP they have left.
10:43You could waste a super attack because of that by using it at the end.
10:47Why do they even program defend and dodge commands for you?
10:52There's no impact! What's the appeal?
10:55It's boring!
10:57They take forever!
10:59What's the point if she doesn't use real weapons?
11:02They're allowed to show your character trying to hit the mayor with a tool.
11:08So that's not too violent, but actually using weapons on fantasy versions of the characters is?
11:16Action RPGs don't fill the entire screen with a white flash of light to censor every impact with the enemy.
11:25You'd think the Witch Princess would be super noticeably harder than the rest, but thankfully she isn't.
11:31She gave me a certificate I was able to ship.
11:34Somehow.
11:34I'm happy to announce that completing the shipping list is a completable task.
11:39Getting all ten wonderful stones to get a ridiculous looking harvest goddess gift is painfully boring.
11:46For some reason you can't put the gift in the cannery.
11:49I needed the wiki to get me to think that the two lottery tickets and the harvest spree tree, those are shippable items.
11:58It takes literally nine years to get the final heart event of the harvest goddess.
12:05Having to catch 10,000 of a type of fish is another reason it'd take forever for me to do this again.
12:11I didn't want to make this video take even longer to come out than it already did.
12:17And the event sucks because when she complained that she wouldn't have problems like being forced to get people to hook up if she wasn't a goddess,
12:24I was honest with her that that's true.
12:27And she said that this was the part where I was supposed to say that's not true and get mad.
12:31She wanted me to lie to her?
12:34A kids game rewarded you for dishonesty.
12:36You'd think a magical being who appears from a pond would want you to be honest and reward it.
12:42Where's the harvest goddess who gave you the super X?
12:45What shocked me most of all was that in a wedding, your character doesn't wear anything special.
12:51And neither does the person you're marrying.
12:53The anniversary gift is a crop seed.
12:56I was impressed when my character's son grew up.
13:00I got to the point where my kid was a teenager and only then could have buy all the records.
13:04All that progress in the game for unlocking records that should have been unlockable from the start.
13:11The sad grand extra music track has a scary glitch where it can keep on playing after you change music tracks.
13:21Harvest Moon DSQ is the weirdly named girl version of the game.
13:25Thankfully, it has the same graphics.
13:28The title always had me imagine it to have kiddie chibi graphics, so that was bad marketing.
13:33And it's great that you can choose between the best-looking protagonist and the one from More Friends of Mineral Town.
13:41And the story intro cutscene is completely different.
13:44Your character is lazy and just sleeps in bed.
13:47And the harvest goddess and her father argue.
13:51So he turns his own daughter to stone.
13:54At least that's more believable than the previous story.
13:59Except then he gets the sprite sent away.
14:02But somehow it was an accident.
14:05Why is the female protagonist getting the short end of the stick by being portrayed as a lazy person
14:09whose fault it is that the goddess and sprites got the fate they did?
14:14That's weird.
14:15You have at least three changes of clothes right from the start of the game.
14:20You can call up a tailor shop to buy more clothes.
14:23I noticed that all of the bachelors have differently colored clothes every day.
14:27At first I found it off-putting.
14:29Because it didn't make any sense that the doctor at his white doctor's outfit differently colored clothes every day.
14:36It came off more as a glitch.
14:37But it's still very lame that no game after this keeps this up.
14:43I guess he didn't have time to make the bachelorettes have differently colored outfits every day too.
14:47I guess this game was rushed too then.
14:50Why is pink one of the color options?
14:53I hope they weren't so busy in programming this that they couldn't have had time to actually improve the game.
14:59Having to pick shop every time I try to buy something from the tailor wastes my time.
15:04Why would they do that?
15:06Another thing unique to this game is that you can buy new wallpaper for your house.
15:12The way it works is really odd though.
15:14You can't literally buy all the wallpaper.
15:17You pay for the right to immediately give your house new wallpaper.
15:21And one of the options is the wallpaper you have at the start of the game.
15:24And you won't know it's that one until you try to buy it and you'll be told that then.
15:29It should have had its text be a different color.
15:32Just drinking water can unlock the sprites now.
15:40Apparently there's this dumb rule that if you haven't talked to a bachelor yet, you can't trigger a heart event with them.
15:47And fortunately, you can talk to them then come back and trigger the event on the same day.
15:52I can't find Skye.
15:56It requires a guide.
15:59Skye sucks.
15:59I expected a fruiting excuse the entire time and the lazy ass writer could never be bothered to write it.
16:08Arrogant asshole thief and he never gets better from that.
16:12There's even an event where you ask him why he's a thief and he refuses to tell you.
16:17He insists that it'd ruin the mystique of the relationship.
16:21I just said bad writing over and over to that.
16:25Only a six-year-old would agree with that logic.
16:28It's especially annoying when the writer thinks about it and still doesn't explain it.
16:33Then why does everyone love this ugly jerk?
16:36What kind of a weird character design is it that he has white hair at his age?
16:41If he has a fanfiction-like chick-freezing beam attack,
16:45why doesn't he have all sorts of other cool magical powers?
16:49I assume he's a witch, but then why is that his only power?
16:53I guess this piece of shit story will never explain how he has powers either.
16:59My game seemed to have a glitch where it was impossible to activate Cliff's Blue Heart event.
17:04No, I just hadn't talked to Casey and Patrick yet.
17:07Because there's still a rule where you need to talk to everyone involved in the event at least once in the game first.
17:13Gotts has a new catchphrase at the end of its annoyingly mandatory pre-shopped speech that everyone has when you call them.
17:22And it doesn't seem like him.
17:25It turns out I can unlock the hot spring a lot faster in DSQ.
17:29All you have to do is show Floor your dog a huge amount of times in one day.
17:36And then just do the hot spring event at the same time you normally would, and you can unlock it immediately.
17:42But how are you supposed to know that?
17:44You would never think that.
17:46You would just give her gifts the normal way.
17:49I got the second hot spring nearly two months faster.
17:55Maybe the guides are right about having to just jump in and out a hundred times in this one.
18:00But again, you would never think to do that, and you never would do that.
18:05The only girls available for marriage are the obnoxiously hard-to-get special bachelorettes.
18:12Including the freaking Harvest Goss, which takes years just to give her five hundred gifts.
18:18And the mermaid, who just stays in your pond no matter what.
18:22Because of cowardice, only the Japanese version has this.
18:27You can see all their events, but they won't marry you.
18:31I've read that only the Japanese version has the Leia dying glitch as well.
18:36It's like how you don't actually lose your pet if it's in a building that collapses.
18:42Just build the same building again and it'll reappear.
18:46I always assumed, because I had common sense, that every bachelorette was available to become a best friend.
18:53Even if it's not realistic.
18:55At least it'd be good game design.
18:57Another thing unique to this game.
19:00I have no idea what causes more clothes to be available from the tailor's shop.
19:04It just happens.
19:04Why won't it all be available for sale from the start?
19:09I love that unlike in Story of Seasons, this game keeps it simple by just letting you buy clothes directly.
19:15All of the clothes are just palette swaps of the default outfit.
19:20Which is shockingly lazy.
19:23So in summary.
19:25This is a good game compared to a lot of games in the series.
19:28It's awesome that you can buy the teleport stone really early on and use that a lot.
19:35I love that you can unlock it so early and it's really cheap.
19:38So you don't even have to rely on a horse that runs away from you too much for you to bother using him.
19:46And while it is really boring, it does save you a lot of time when it comes to making money that you can dig for stuff at the dig site that's way more valuable than mining other items.
19:56It's great that there's a green copper hat in the game to get rid of the stamina system entirely, but it'd take forever to be able to get it without coats, and you can't equip more than one accessory at a time.
20:09In some ways, it's a clear improvement from games before it because you can stack up to 99 items in each slot of your bag.
20:18You can always keep all of the tools in your rucksack.
20:21You start out with more bag slots in Friends of Mineral Town to begin with.
20:25It's nice that you can get more than one bottle of milk or roll at once from a cow or sheep.
20:31However, the Harvest Brite system was completely mangled from Friends of Mineral Town and will never be as good as it was again.
20:38Because it's got a whole bunch of arbitrary rules to nerf it.
20:42And the game cramps my hand after a while because I'm usually holding the stylus while playing it.
20:48The biggest problem with the game by far is the slow text speed.
20:53You'll have to counter text a lot.
20:56You have to look it up on the internet to know that you have to befriend someone to get the fishing rod to befriend Flora with fish,
21:02and only then will you get a cutscene at the mine, unlocking a fatigue-specific hot spring for you.
21:09And you need a guide to know you have to use it an hour each, a hundred times, to unlock a stamina hot spring.
21:16That'll take a long time in-game to unlock.
21:19And you need to unlock a ridiculous amount of sprites just to get married.
21:25Because there's so many different buildings you don't have from the start,
21:29you have to take a long time getting lumbered with a limited amount of stamina
21:32just to get to the point you should have started out in the first place.
21:37Fodder buildings are a thing.
21:39But they're just there to trick you into buying them because of how cheap they are.
21:43Because they can end up collapsing for no reason at all.
21:47Which compels you to save every day just in case it ends up collapsing and killing the animals in it.
21:56The fact that you can so easily avoid your buildings collapsing
22:00makes it obvious how unnecessary the whole multiple materials thing actually is.
22:05Which just makes it more alienating.
22:07Because you feel bad about not getting the best building material
22:11and not being able to change your building material.
22:15Another big problem is that when you first play the game
22:17you wonder what's causing you to take so long to get the Bachelorette to more than just Black Heart.
22:23Because without a guide you'll never know that throwing weeds back onto the ground
22:27to get rid of them counts as littering.
22:30Even though you're getting rid of the weeds regardless.
22:33I never had that problem in Friends of Mineral Town
22:35because that game didn't have all the forgeable items appear in big patches of soil all over town.
22:41that look like your regular farmland
22:43that still have weeds in them for no reason.
22:47So you're forced to do the weeding for every part of town.
22:50Or else every part of town will be nothing but weeds by summer.
22:54What game does this?
22:56The only thing that makes this game worth it
22:58is that it's engaging enough that you'll want to keep playing it as late as year 19
23:02because there's so much to do.
23:05Mainly because you can level up Kronks.
23:07And when you combine that with a seed maker
23:10it's a pretty broken way of making money.
23:12I don't know if it's a pretty broken way of making it as long as I'm living here at the time.
23:15So that's how you can make it as long as I'm living here.
23:16So that's how you can set up my own land.
23:17So we can make it as a single as it to me.
23:18I want to make it as simple as we can set up my own land.
