00:00I'm feeling a little high right now. A mile high. That's right, I'm in Denver at Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies.
00:24This has been their home stadium since 1995, their third season, and they had some early success. Went to the playoffs that first year, but there's always been tricky playing out here.
00:36The light air has caused pitchers' ERAs to be a mile high, and trying to find consistent pitching has been quite difficult in Denver and for the Colorado Rockies.
00:48But they've always had a loyal fan base, even in hard times. So I'm going to take a tour of Coors Field, whose iconic front entry clock tower stands as a monument and a welcoming to all fans who come to visit.
01:08Outside Coors Field, which is located in the heart of downtown Denver, are a number of small bars and restaurants, plus they have a space for events if they want to tour a party.
01:34So in terms of pre-game destinations for fans that meet up and party before the game, Coors Field gets a solid B minus.
01:45We've got a nice little seating area, picnic area for the Blue Moon. And everyone knows Blue Moon Beer right now. Blue Moon was created in this ballpark.
02:07When Coors Field was built, there was an old brewery that had been preserved for history.
02:15So what they did is they built the ballpark around this brewery and decided to start brewing their own beer.
02:21And that is Blue Moon Beer. This is where they originally made it. Now it's gone so big it's found its own place.
02:26But in these kettles, they brew special blends of beer, which are available throughout the game.
02:31We also have the lowest beer prices in all baseball ballparks. If you get a Coors Light, it's $3.
02:37Wow. I mean, the ridiculous prices, the gouging that lost Stadium Zoo is pathetic.
02:42I see that they put individual awards up here. They do a good job presenting a history here.
02:48But the Rockies history, hate to say it, isn't very good. Considering that they have a limited history, only been to one World Series, never won a division, never won a World Series, and have a few retired numbers.
03:03For what limited history they have, they do a good job presenting it to the fans.
03:09So I'm going to give them an A for it. I call it an A for effort because there's not much to work with.
03:18To try to combat the altitude in Colorado, the Rockies came up with an idea of putting the baseballs into a humidor.
03:40It cut down the home runs a little bit, and then the rest of the major baseballs said, hey, that's a good idea.
03:46So they started doing the same thing. Well, so much for that.
03:51All right. I like this. The concourses are open. This was one of the first stadiums that debuted that concept with the open concourse.
04:01The stadiums that were built after 1990, that's when they started introducing this concept.
04:08You didn't see it so much in Cleveland, but you see it here in Courses, which was opened in 1995.
04:16So Courses field for concourse, I give it a B.
04:21So this is kind of our spin on spaghetti and meatballs. So it's vanilla ice cream pressed through an actual spaghetti maker.
04:28You've got some donut holes on top with a strawberry syrup and a little bit of fresh mint on it.
04:33Used to be that you do dessert first, but it's going to melt. So we had to get there first. Polar pasta.
04:39It hits your tooth a little bit if you're not too careful. You know that little ice cold. It's simple. It's easy. It's creative.
04:45I'm going to give the polar pasta a 7.8.
04:49Alright, moving on to the fun stuff now. After dessert. These are called our Rocky Mountain Oysters.
04:55Yeah, I know what those are.
05:06You know, this is our spin on fish and chips Courses.
05:07Yeah, I know what this is.
05:09It's just chicken. Fried chicken.
05:11Yeah, I know what those are.
05:13You know, this is our spin on fish and chips corks.
05:16Yeah, I know what this is.
05:18It's just chicken, fried chicken.
05:21Yeah.
05:22I got to say this.
05:24They've named a PBR bull after me.
05:27I hope this doesn't happen to him.
05:29It could.
05:30Yeah, well, I hope for his sake it doesn't.
05:33I guess it's beef somehow.
05:36You know,
05:39it's not that bad.
05:44Very fried, very fried.
05:46I'm going to give it a 7.4.
05:49I mean, got to be adventurous sometimes.
05:51All right, moving on to our house smoked brisket right here.
05:54We do this in the blue moon right behind you.
05:56So you have two large smokers back there that go pretty much 24 hours a day.
06:00Got some house pickles on there and then our house made potato salad for you.
06:04Not a fan of potato salad, not a fan of pickles.
06:08Not a fan of potato salad and not a fan of mayonnaise.
06:10The brisket looks good though.
06:11I got to say that.
06:15This is good.
06:17This is terrific brisket.
06:19I'm going to give the brisket an 8.7.
06:23That's a high score right there.
06:25Yes, it is.
06:26I'll try a little bit of potato salad, but I don't like it.
06:28If you don't like it, you don't have to eat it, you know?
06:30It's okay.
06:31We're not forcing you to do anything you want.
06:33I just made you eat Rocky Mountain oysters.
06:35Yes.
06:36We'll pass on the pasta salad.
06:37You know, I'm looking at this stuff and the Rockies go well with the region.
06:44The region's got a unique palette with the Rocky Mountain oysters.
06:48We got elk hot dogs.
06:49We got regular hot dogs, biker gyms.
06:52The place I reviewed is closely associated with them.
06:57And in terms of food variety and food options, I'm going to give Coors Field a B.
07:07Now is B good?
07:08Yes.
07:09Okay.
07:10All right.
07:11They call this a Rocky Dog.
07:13And it's foot long.
07:14It comes fresh off the grill.
07:17A bundle dog ratio is good for a foot long.
07:20It has some good coloring on it.
07:22Some good grill marks.
07:24So let's give the Rocky Dog a try.
07:38This is one of the best stadium dogs I've ever had.
07:42I always grade things differently at a stadium.
07:46This hot dog is a triple.
07:48Check out the out of town scoreboard.
07:51But it's a little bit of a stairs.
07:53So we want to see if you're comfortable with it.
07:55All right.
08:03Look at this.
08:05This is manually operated out of town scoreboard.
08:11This is one of the charms that make Coors Field so special.
08:38When they were building the stadium, they found an old fossil of a triceratops.
08:43So they made it their mascot.
08:45And Dinger was born.
08:47And one of the top mascots in baseball, colorful, purple.
08:51I mean, what else can I say?
08:54I'm going to give Dinger a beat.
08:56And the sight lines, you know, there's good seats throughout the entire stadium.
09:00Including the walk pile, which is a mile high.
09:03Marked in purple up at the top.
09:05There's not a bad seat in the house at Coors Field.
09:07So I am going to give the sight lines at Coors a B.
09:11So I am going to give sight lines at Coors a B.
09:26All right, well, it was an opportunity.
09:31I had to wear the jersey.
09:35I mean, I'm still a Mets fan at heart, so everyone chill out.
09:42And Coors Field is terrific.
09:45I would put it in the top tier of stadiums in baseball.
09:50I'm going to give Coors Field the whole overall experience, the look of the stadium, and the
10:10game atmosphere, an A.
10:13television game nightmare.
10:15And Coors Field is meaningful.
10:19We've got to see the look at the same situation.
10:20We've got to see what our last meeting was.
10:22In the next meeting the two-step section calls, we do have to see what the people are doing.
10:27And I wonder if we can get it.
10:29We're going to see how the things are going zur line.
10:30We're going to be down at the same center.
10:31And we're going to see what the teams are looking for.
10:33And we're going to see what the teams are going to be, and I'm going to be down at the same time.
10:38And we're going to see what the team is going to be.
