00:00we are in Cleveland Cleveland come on down to Cleveland town everyone under
00:19construction since 1868 see the river that catches on fire watch the Guardians
00:27play right here today yes I'm outside here of progressive field which opened up 30 years
00:35ago 1994 as Jacobs field and it transformed Cleveland baseball before that the Indians
00:45as they were known then had not even been a contender in over 30 years and in their first
00:54full season at Jacobs field they went to the world series and were in position to get the wild card
01:02when the strike ended the 94 season prematurely and that was ended 35 years of Cleveland frustration
01:11now the seven won the world series since 1948 but progressive field known mainly for their
01:18toothbrush light toothbrush lighting changed everything about Cleveland baseball well and it's
01:26been one of the best reviewed ballparks so we're going to take a look around as I throw out the
01:31first pitch in this game and see just how good this stadium is let's take a tour
01:36progressive field that was built in a little district quarter district actually and it's right
01:43next to our rocket arena it's got a little bit of a nice area a little nice touch with some bars and
01:48restaurants but overall I don't think they take full advantage of what they can do so I'm going to give
01:53the outside atmosphere at progressive field a C plus looks like progressive field is uh under
02:01construction a little bit they're doing some improvements this is nice I like this little
02:05area here that they're going to set up a little bar and area bar and like restaurant area that's always
02:10uh that always looks quite nice at a stadium I enjoy the one that they have in Texas like this
02:16oh that is nice their world championship year the uh their pennant winning years 1920 1948 1954
02:2595 97 where's 2016 though but I see here that we got some uh uh Cleveland legends here we got uh
02:35Napoleon Lajoie people don't notice but before they were the Cleveland Indians they were the Cleveland
02:40Naps named after Napoleon Lajoie this is the guy that inspired the nickname Indians this uh he's a Native
02:49American that played for uh Cleveland and uh he was a popular player so when the uh Napoleon Lajoie
02:58left the team they decided to uh call him Indians in honor of him I like the uh the plaques you got a lot of
03:05plaques here I'll tell you someone who should be in the Hall of Fame and you guys hated him for a while
03:09I guess all has been forgiven I know what you're about to say Albert Bell before he got hurt he was
03:14impressive he just was such a prick to everyone that no one would want to even think about him in the
03:19Hall of Fame Seulich Joe Jackson he's another guy who should be in the Hall of Fame Andre Thornton
03:25during those 80s Indian teams he was like the only player that was like worth a damn on the team
03:33Charles Nagy he had a solid career Mike Garcia Sam McDowell Southern Sam McDowell Ray Chapman
03:39is the only player in the history of Major League Baseball to have died
04:01Ray Chapman is the only player in the history of Major League Baseball to have died from an on-field accident.
04:12He was hit in the head by Carl Mays, the New York Yankees, on August 17th and died the next day.
04:22The beaning caused the banning of the spitball in Major League Baseball.
04:27And that year the Indians, inspired by Ray Chapman, playing in Ray Chapman's memory, won their first World Series.
04:38Oh.
04:38It's okay, go ahead.
04:39Sorry, sorry.
04:40It's okay, it's okay.
04:41I'll get back to you, it's all good.
04:43Alright.
04:45In terms of celebrating their past, the Cleveland Guardians get a B+.
04:53Now there are no World Series, they did not make World Series trophies in 1948.
04:57But they honor everything else, they put up statues, they put up plaques, and they well mark their championships and everything around the stadium.
05:05So they get a B+, in terms of celebrating their history.
05:10Sorry about that.
05:11As with all modern cities built after Camden Yards, the sight lines at Progressive Field are terrific.
05:23Of course, it's going under some renovation.
05:26They've recently removed a restaurant for new types of seating.
05:29The sight lines were terrific though, and I'm going to give the sight lines a B+.
05:34Now one thing I'm seeing here is, where the food area is, they don't have open concourses.
05:47It's a wide concourses, but not as wide as some of the newer stadiums.
05:53In terms of concourses, I'm going to give Progressive Field a C+.
05:59It's built before the modern new open concourses, and I think it takes down the score a little bit.
06:07Here's one of their clubs for exclusive ticket holders.
06:12It's the Home Plate Club.
06:14Got a nice view there.
06:16This stadium was built in 1994.
06:18It's when they started to shift from the old, just Unitarian ballpark, into the modern feature stadium.
06:26So clubs like these were an important part of that.
06:30You can tell there's a little bit of age on this stadium.
06:32And it's a good thing that they're taking care of that now by renovating.
06:37It's going to be interesting to see what the final product is.
06:41Because this stadium is, while it is 30 years old, still has a lot of its original luster.
06:49To keep it at the level it's been, you've got to do renovations, and they're working on it.
06:57We've got the 2016 American League Champions over here.
07:02Dante's Inferno.
07:03Artisan Pizza.
07:05Carnegie Corner.
07:07Seeing a lot of standard ballpark food, in terms of ballpark fare and food, I don't see anything special.
07:16They have a couple of different types of hot dog places.
07:20Is that a good dog?
07:22It's a first stadium dog, yes.
07:23Better than a double?
07:25No.
07:25It's a double.
07:30My brother loves his nachos.
07:32I hope you love yours too.
07:33Alright.
07:34But I heard that they have excellent nachos here at Momacho.
07:38And well, I got the chicken with the cheese and the nachos.
07:41They didn't get all the other stuff on it.
07:42I don't like that.
07:43I don't like that stuff.
07:44I don't like it.
07:45No, okay.
07:45But let's see how this tastes.
07:51I'm going to give it, chicken's a little cold.
07:54I'm going to give it a 6.8.
07:58Alright.
07:59I respect it.
08:00Overall, the hot dog, the food choices here, there's not much variety.
08:05So in terms of variety of food items, I'm going to give Progressive Field a C.
08:12It's, I don't see anything too special.
08:14He's been the mascot for over 30 years now.
08:36You know what Slider's most famous for is, in 1995, Slider broke his leg.
08:44And then he had to do the World Series in clutches.
08:50Yes.
08:50And everyone always remembers that year that he broke his leg.
08:53And this is Slider, the Guardian's mascot.
08:57The Tigers lead the Season Series 5, Game 4.
09:00It's the same one.
09:02Oh, same guy?
09:03Yeah.
09:04For the record.
09:05The Guardian's winning over 500 at 60 and 40.
09:11Slider gets a D-.
09:13Probably one of the worst mascots in MLB.
09:16Sorry.
09:17Thank you, Bob.
09:18We're going to watch Slutton Edition.
09:19The overall rating for Progressive Field is terrific.
09:33It's still a great stadium as it opened 30 years ago.
09:36It's gone through several changes, several renovations, but it maintains itself as the
09:41home of Cleveland's baseball team.
09:44I'm going to give the overall score a B+.
09:49I'm going to give the overall score a B.
