00:00In the land of Palestine, not far from the River Jordan, which flows into the Dead Sea, there was a wilderness.
00:13This was the stern and forbidding place where Jesus of Nazareth had lived for 40 days, fasting and praying.
00:21This was also where he had resisted the temptations of Satan.
00:24Now, Jesus was making his way back toward the River Jordan, in order that he might begin his public ministry.
00:41Once before, Jesus had come from Galilee to find John the Baptist by the River Jordan, where he had been baptized by John.
00:49And now, Jesus was returning to Galilee.
00:54And as Jesus continued his lonely journey toward the Jordan River, again he came near a place where John the Baptist was talking with some of his own followers.
01:07Instantly, John the Baptist recognized Jesus, and again the same feeling of great humility it felt at the baptism came over him.

01:27As Jesus drew nearer, the Baptist followers became aware of the importance of the moment when John said,
01:36The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
01:39This is he of whom I said,
01:42After me comes a man who ranks before me, for he was before me.
01:47On the following day, Jesus again approached John the Baptist.
01:59John was talking to some of his followers when he again looked upon Jesus and said,
02:03Behold the Lamb of God.
02:06And as Jesus drew nearer, two of John's followers became deeply moved.
02:09These two were fishermen from Galilee.
02:12Their names were Andrew and John.
02:16As John the Baptist and his followers watched Jesus,
02:20Andrew and John suddenly felt a strong urge to follow this man whose coming John the Baptist had foretold.
02:27These two could not account for this impulse.
02:29They simply felt that they must learn more about this man who John the Baptist said had come to take away the sin of the world.
02:38It seemed as though Jesus was waiting for them.

06:08And when Jesus saw Simon for the first time, Andrew and John were greatly surprised to hear him say, you are Simon, son of John.

07:57This was Philip, who came from Peter's own town of Bethsaida.
08:07But before Peter could even welcome Philip, Jesus was already leaving the group.
08:18Philip couldn't help but feel the warmth of Jesus, who spoke with such divine authority.
08:34Strangely drawn to Jesus, Philip eagerly joined this little group of disciples.
08:41It was an interesting group of men, most of them fishermen from Galilee.

08:52Peter, a man of extreme emotions, impetuous, quick tempered.
08:59And John, the deep thinker.
09:02He too was a fisherman who later became known as the disciple whom Jesus loved.
09:08Andrew, the businessman, quiet, discerning, deeply thoughtful.
09:15And Philip, the latest one to believe as soon as he had seen Jesus.
09:21And the spirit of new adventure was within each one of them.
09:24But more than that, they were inspired by the fact that the promised Savior had chosen
09:28them to be his friends and followers.
09:35After the meal, the men continued their journey to Galilee.
09:49Then Philip, saying that he would meet them further down the road, hurried on ahead.
10:04Philip was eagerly seeking a certain man named Nathaniel.
10:07So that he might tell him the good news.
10:11He found Nathaniel resting beside a fig tree.
10:13And when Philip approached him, Nathaniel looked up in curiosity.
10:16Greetings, Philip.
10:18Why are you in such a hurry?
10:20I have great news.
10:22We have found the Messiah.
10:23Philip, this cannot be.
