00:11Welcome back to Making It Simple.
00:13Hope you're doing great.
00:14We're going to wrap up our lesson that we've been calling Victory.
00:19Looking at the totality, if you will, of where this started back series ago and lessons ago,
00:27we began with the reality of evil, and then we kind of moved that needle to what is good,
00:34and now we're concluding that three-part kind of a thing with victory.
00:40How do we get there?
00:41Again, we go back to Romans 12, 21, which I've shared many, many times in my life verse,
00:48you know, don't be conquered by evil.
00:49Do not be conquered by evil, but conquer evil with good.
00:53So we learn through all of this that evil is real.
00:59That's not a question.
01:00But we also understand that good is real, which ultimately brings us to the subject of victory
01:07that we've been looking at here through John 16.
01:10We learn that not only is this possible, but that it is possible through an avenue.
01:17What does that mean?
01:18So in other words, the fact that it's possible leads us to the understanding of how is that possible?
01:26All right.
01:27So victory can be achieved.
01:29But in our verse here that we've been looking at exclusively, John 16 and 33,
01:34we see that the avenue is also simplistic because Jesus said,
01:41I've told you these things so that in me, that is the key to understanding this, friends,
01:48is that personal relationship with the one who is capable.
01:54All right.
01:54So we understand that through the person of Christ, what he offers us, he is speaking to us,
02:03not just with authority.
02:07Oftentimes, what we find in the confines of teaching, and can I be honest with you for a minute?
02:14I really get annoyed by some who use the word preaching as a bully pulpit,
02:22as a platform to be in your face and jump up and down and really make a show.
02:28That's not preaching.
02:30Okay.
02:30That's not teaching.
02:32That's a spectacle.
02:34That is, look at me.
02:35Look at how foolish I can act.
02:38Look at how political I can be.
02:40Look at how dogmatic and legalistic I can be.
02:42And I can shame you and tell you how awful you are.
02:45Friends, none of that, and I mean none of that, points anybody to Christ.
02:51None.
02:51Now, and if you study and understand the person, the mission, the vision, the everything that Jesus brought to be
02:59the example,
03:01well, he didn't do any of that either.
03:02Now, someone's going to argue with me, oh, he did that.
03:06Go back and read it.
03:08Go read it for yourself.
03:09That's my challenge to you.
03:11Jesus spoke with confidence.
03:16Why and how?
03:17Well, let's look at the rest of this verse, all right?
03:19Listen to what it says, all right?
03:22So, I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace.
03:28All right?
03:28We've talked about that.
03:30That's an affirmity.
03:31In me, you may have peace.
03:33So, here's the offering.
03:35Here's the opportunity.
03:37You will have suffering in this world.
03:39That's a factual statement.
03:42He's not negating that.
03:44He's not ignoring that.
03:46He's not pointing you in any other direction but honesty.
03:49And if we've lived any length of time, we know, well, that's true.
03:52There's a lot of things that kind of aren't so great in this lifetime.
03:56But listen to the rest of it.
03:58And here's where we conclude things today.
04:02Be courageous.
04:05So, I have an answer in the very first part in me.
04:10I have a factual statement in this world.
04:12There's going to be some things that's going to booger it up.
04:14It's not going to be good.
04:16Be courageous.
04:19How am I able to do that?
04:22It's the first part in me.
04:23It all goes back to that relationship.
04:25Listen to what he says.
04:26Be courageous.
04:28I have conquered the world.
04:32This is how he can speak with confidence.
04:35Not just authority like, look at me.
04:38No, no, no, no, no.
04:39He looked evil in the eye.
04:43He acknowledges that it's real.
04:46But he also tells us here, he defeated it.
04:50How great is that?
04:51He tells us in this ending text part, he says, be courageous.
04:56Stand strong.
04:58Hang on.
04:59You can do this.
05:02One hears this and they say, but Pastor, how?
05:06What did he say?
05:07I have told you these things, so I've made it honest with you,
05:11so that it's capable, it's possible.
05:16In me, you may have peace.
05:20It's all about knowing and trusting him.
05:23That's where our victory comes.
05:25Not in who can tell you how wrong you've been.
05:29Not in who can remind you of all your failures.
05:32No.
05:34No.
05:34It's about knowing the one that makes all that better,
05:38that delivers you from that.
05:40It's about being the leper, the untouchable,
05:43the undesirable, being made clean.
05:46That's what this is all about.
05:48Now, being courageous, when he says that,
05:51that points us to being a conqueror.
05:55But I'm in such a terrible fight in my life right now.
05:58But when he says, be courageous, this is not merely,
06:02we've got to understand the beauty of this, friends.
06:04This is not just a cheerleading moment.
06:06Oh, come on, you can do it.
06:08No.
06:09This is a call.
06:12This is a challenge.
06:14To lean on what we claim to believe.
06:20In other words, is it real?
06:23Do I really trust it?
06:25Um, and even more so, do I trust him?
06:31I call on Jesus.
06:34Man, I love Jesus.
06:35But do you trust him?
06:38And I've said this before, but it bears repeating.
06:42Friends, you don't trust who you don't know.
06:45And you don't follow who you don't trust.
06:47Or you shouldn't.
06:49He said, be courageous.
06:53I have.
06:55Think about this.
06:56I.
06:57That's, again, singular.
06:58Everything about understanding who Jesus is
07:01goes back to that important component.
07:03Singular.
07:04I have.
07:05That is not, I tried.
07:07I might.
07:08I thought about it.
07:10No, I have.
07:11That is completion.
07:11I have conquered the world.
07:17Now, we hear that and we think about, you know,
07:19all the idiotic stupidity that's going on around us right now.
07:23That's not what he's talking about.
07:25He's not talking about domination like a ruler or a dictator
07:28or some ridiculous politician.
07:31No.
07:32He's saying, I have conquered the world.
07:34What is he talking about?
07:35The world system.
07:36The things that we allow to rule our lives.
07:44The lies that keep us from believing the biggest lie.
07:51That there is no hope.
07:53That there is no possibility of a chance for joy.
07:57There is no way to win.
07:59Because that's not true.
08:01And that is what he's telling us.
08:04I have told you these things.
08:06So that in me, there's your answer, you may have peace.
08:12In this world, you're going to have sufferings.
08:14It's going to happen in this world.
08:16But be courageous.
08:18Be courageous.
08:19Because I have conquered the world.
08:22What does that mean?
08:23You can do it too.
08:24Through him.
08:25In me.
08:26All he's saying that is be courageous.
08:29I have done it.
08:30I have overcome the world.
08:31I have conquered.
08:32I have defeated all these lies.
08:36Which means you can too.
08:38We can have strength through the person of Christ.
08:40We can have strength through this relationship.
08:42Through this acknowledgement.
08:43Friends, we understand this.
08:45And it's possible.
08:47But we need encouragement.
08:49And encouragement comes with lifting each other up.
08:53Encouragement comes with building.
08:56Instead of tearing down.
08:58We live in a time right now.
09:01It's Monday, February the 10th.
09:04I think it's today.
09:05Or something like that.
09:069th, 10th.
09:06Whatever it is.
09:10Yesterday, depending on when you watch this, was the Super Bowl.
09:14We are living in a time where you can't even enjoy just a football game now.
09:20Or a baseball game.
09:22Or a wrestling match.
09:23Or a boxing match.
09:24Or whatever your flavor is.
09:26It doesn't matter.
09:27Whatever you like.
09:27We can't even enjoy that now.
09:28Because of the ridiculous nature of the divide that is in this world right now.
09:35Evil is real.
09:37Evil is running rampant all over the place.
09:40And it is causing many to suffer with the living in the bubble of dishonesty and lies.
09:51Because in the concept of that, what it keeps telling everybody is it can't get better.
09:58Unless you vote in somebody better.
10:01Unless you pass a new rule.
10:03Let me ask you this.
10:05We'll soon be coming up on the 250th year existence of this country.
10:14What rule and what leader has ever truly made it better?
10:20Now I don't say that to decry our nation at all.
10:23I have a problem living here or acknowledging being from here.
10:26Not at all.
10:27No whatsoever.
10:27We have foolish people that do foolish things.
10:29But so does everywhere else in the world.
10:31But if we're just waiting to get, well, we've just got to get so-and-so in office and it'll
10:35get better.
10:35Well, we've done that multiple times based on a promise.
10:38And it was never true.
10:39Ever.
10:40And it probably never will be.
10:42Because we deal with flawed people.
10:44Jesus said, I have told you these things so that in me, in me, not in some office, not in
10:53some entertainer's closet,
10:54not on somebody's island, not, no, in me, you may have peace.
11:00There's the answer, friends.
11:01That's what it is.
11:02Evil is real.
11:03Good is real.
11:04Evil is causing a lot of people to suffer in a whole lot of ways.
11:09But if we understand what he's telling us here, he's saying, hang on.
11:15Don't quit.
11:16Evil is real.
11:17But evil will not win.
11:21But here's the spoiler alert.
11:23Jesus does.
11:24So my friends, rest in that.
11:26Rest in that today.
11:28He has told us these things so that in him, we may have peace.
11:33Hang on to that today.
11:34And let me encourage you.
11:35If you don't know him, it's not difficult.
11:39He's just waiting on you to say, yes, I'm ready.
