Jesus Life Story
Transcript
00:00During the days when Jesus was on earth, if a person was found to be sick with leprosy,
00:15the law said that he must tear his clothes and cover his upper lip.
00:30In those days, lepers were considered unclean, and a leper always had to call out to anyone near him that he was unclean.
00:49Since no doctor could help lepers, and they could not go near anyone,
00:53the coming of Jesus, hope entered the hearts of some of these doomed men.
00:59They had heard of his power to work miracles, and they had heard also that his compassion extended even to the lepers.
01:06On a certain day, while Jesus was talking to a group of people,
01:10a leper who had heard of the Master's teachings and miracles of healing made his way toward him.
01:17Hopeful and yet fearful, the leper approached the crowd around Jesus.
01:22Would the Master heal him, or would he shun him?
01:26And then another thought came to the leper's mind.
01:29How could he possibly get near Jesus with such a crowd about him?
01:35Unclean! Unclean! Unclean!
01:38At the familiar cry of unclean, the people fearfully made way for the leper to come near the Master.
01:53Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.
01:57I will.
02:00Be clean.
02:01Say nothing of this to anyone, but go and show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded as a testimony to the people.
02:21But Jesus' instructions to this leper were unheeded, for in his joy he went away and told many people of his healing.
02:36Months later, when Jesus and his disciples left Capernaum, they took the road south to Jerusalem.
02:42As they traveled along the border of Galilee and Samaria, they met the messengers that had been sent ahead to find a place for all to rest for the night.
02:59Did you find lodgings?
03:00No.
03:01The people were Samaritans, and they would not give us shelter, or even sell us food, because we are going to Jerusalem.
03:08Lord, shall we call down fire from heaven to destroy them?
03:10The Son of Man did not come to destroy lives, but to save them.
03:17And so, after Jesus once again had reminded his disciples why he had come into the world, they continued on their way to another town.
03:29Sometime later, near a Galilean village which was close to the border of Samaria,
03:33a leper, having met one of his own kind on the road, was taking the old man to the place where, with several other lepers,
03:41they might spend another day of their wretched existence together.
03:46We have a newcomer, and he brings food with him.
03:50Good.
03:51We need food badly.
03:53You can sleep in there.
03:54Where does he come from?
04:02Isn't he a new leper?
04:04I don't know.
04:05He joined me as I was leaving the village.
04:08He said he had some food.
04:10That's all I cared about.
04:12Well, makes no difference.
04:14Leper's a leper, and food is food.
04:16This is, this is what I have, and you are all welcome to it.
04:29Bread and fruit.
04:31You're welcome to stay with us.
04:32We'll repay you later.
04:34Oh, there's no need to repay me.
04:36Besides, I'm leaving tomorrow.
04:39Oh?
04:40Where are you going?
04:42That I, I do not know.
04:45I, I am looking for someone.
04:51We're leaving tomorrow for Jerusalem.
04:54We're going to look for someone, too.
04:57Won't you come with us?
04:58The one that I am looking for is not in Jerusalem.
05:03The one we seek is not in Jerusalem, either.
05:06But we know he will be.
05:08For we've heard that he's going to be there for the Passover.
05:10Perhaps your man will be there, too.
05:12I am sure he will be.
05:13But I can never go to Jerusalem.
05:17Why not?
05:18Everyone goes there at some time or another.
05:22Samaritans do not.
05:24Oh.
05:26So you're a Samaritan, eh?
05:28I am.
05:29Well, you're also a leper.
05:35And we are lepers, too.
05:37And we would be cured of our leprosy.
05:40Wouldn't you?
05:41That's why I am here.
05:43To find the one who has the power to heal the leper.
05:46And that is why we're going to Jerusalem.
05:50For we, too, know of a man.
05:52And we've heard that he's going to be there.
05:54You mean Jesus of Nazareth?
05:57The one who works miracles?
05:59You need not go to your holy city.
06:02Because I heard he will soon pass along this road.
06:07Are you sure of this?
06:08As sure as I am that he can cure us of this leprosy.
06:13Then we will stay here and watch for him.
06:15Yes.
06:16So the lepers watched day and night for the man they hoped would heal them of their leprosy.
06:30After some time, one of them saw Jesus coming down the road with his disciples.
06:43He's coming!
06:45He's coming!
06:46He's coming!
06:47Are you sure, my son?
06:48I'm sure it's Jesus!
06:50Let us go and see this man!
06:52Come and see!
06:53Oh!
06:58There!
07:04There!
07:16It is Jesus, all right!
07:29I recognize some of his followers.
07:31I recognize some of his followers.
07:31Look!
07:32There's Simon, whom he calls Peter.
07:34And his brother, Andrew.
07:36Do you think he'll help us?
07:38I am sure he will.
07:39Lord, help.
07:40If we heal the leper at Capernaum, he will heal us.
07:42Master!
07:43Master!
07:43Master!
07:44Have mercy!
07:45Help!
07:45Have mercy!
07:46Help!
07:46Have mercy!
07:46Have mercy!
07:47Have mercy!
07:47Help!
07:48Have mercy!
07:48Have mercy!
07:49Go, and show yourselves to the priests.
07:55At Jesus' words, the ten lepers instantly felt the divine authority in the Master's voice.
08:03Without a doubt, they realized the promise that was in his word, and they went off to do as he had commanded them.
08:22But then...
08:22Look!
08:24I'm clean!
08:25I'm clean, too!
08:27I'm clean!
08:28My doors are gone!
08:29I'm clean!
08:30Let us show ourselves to the priest.
09:00Master!
09:05Master!
09:06Thank you, Master.
09:13You have made me well.
09:15Look.
09:16I am clean again.
09:20Were there not ten lepers cleansed?
09:23Where are the other nine?
09:25Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this stranger?
09:29Master.
09:30Rise and go your way.
09:34Your faith has made you well.
09:37Thank you, Master.
09:58And so once again, Jesus had demonstrated his love and compassion for all men.
10:05Once more, he had ignored the tradition and customs of his day, to give the living proof of his divine authority and the love of God.
10:13That Hol hamsteress he armed with man.
10:14And so once again, Jesus has become a new alguna.
10:18That's a pretty coolmer of God.
10:18Well, who said is in your shape.
10:20I love you.
10:21I love you.
10:36olla.
10:37Now to the puisque am-
