00:00traveling through the hills above Bethsaida Jesus and his disciples were
00:20on their way to Caesarea Philippi Jesus had recently completed his first
00:25Galilean ministry and this had been a period of spiritual training for the
00:30disciples since then they had spent most of their time in close fellowship with
00:35the master gaining more experience in the great work that he expected them to
00:40do in making this journey it was necessary to climb well over a thousand
00:46feet and so the traveler would often rest by the wayside from these heights the
00:54view was inspiring as the disciples look southward perhaps they're stirred in
01:00their minds the memories of the events which had preceded this journey from the
01:04Sea of Galilee in the beauty and quiet of the scene below them they could recall
01:10many of the things they had seen Jesus do they had witnessed events that would
01:15shape the lives of men and nations for all time in one way or another each of the
01:22disciples had received a call from Jesus one day as Peter and Andrew James and
01:27John were preparing their nets on the shore of the Sea of Galilee Jesus had
01:32found them and had given them the final call of discipleship it had been a
01:37personal call which had transformed the life of each one of them the disciples had
01:43come from all walks of life in Capernaum Jesus had issued the call to
01:48Matthew a tax collector Matthew had heard Jesus speak in the past and so impressed
01:54was he by the master's manner and so great was his belief that he resolved to
02:00leave his work and follow the Lord it would mean a complete new life for Matthew but
02:06nevertheless he turned over his tax booth to the Roman soldier on guard and
02:10became a disciple later on a mountain near Capernaum Jesus had preached to his
02:18followers and he had given them the pattern of a holy and dedicated life which
02:22all of his disciples were to follow there he taught them many things including how to
02:29pray and when you pray you must not be like the hypocrites for they love to stand
02:35and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners that they may be seen by
02:39men truly I say to you they have their reward but when you pray go into your
02:47room and shut the door and pray to your father who is in secret and your father
02:52who sees in secret will reward you it was in Capernaum also that many had
02:59witnessed the faith of the centurion and Jesus power to heal physical illness the
03:05centurion servant was at home ill but the soldier had said that he was not worthy
03:09to ask Jesus to go to his house but if Jesus would speak only the word he knew his
03:16servant would be healed at Nain the disciples had observed the effect of
03:22Jesus power over death a widow's only son had died but Jesus had stopped the
03:29funeral procession on the way to the burial ground and in his compassion for the
03:33widow's grief he had brought the young man back to life
03:39and a little later when Jesus engaged in his loving task of healing some of the
03:43lame and blind they had heard the answer that he gave to the question brought to
03:48him by the messengers of John the Baptist go and tell John what you have seen
03:53and heard the blind receive their sight the lame walk lepers are cleansed and the
03:59death here the dead are raised up the poor have good news preached to them and
04:05blessed is he who takes no offense in me
04:10now high above the low-lying Jordan Valley away from Galilee and Judea far from the
04:24temple the synagogue the priests Pharisees and scribes Jesus was about to test the
04:31faith of his disciples who do men say that I am some say that you are John the
04:40Baptist some say Elijah others say you are Jeremiah or one of the prophets
04:49but who do you say that I am you are the Christ the son of the living God
05:04blessed are you Simon son of John for flesh and blood has not revealed this to
05:10you but my father who is in heaven and I tell you you are Peter
05:19and on this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail
05:25against it I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven whatever you bind on
05:31earth shall be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in
05:36heaven the disciples were deeply impressed and all listened attentively as Jesus
05:44went on to tell them that they must not tell anyone that he was the Christ and he
05:49also told them of things that would come to pass the son of man must suffer many
05:54things be rejected by the elders the chief priests and the scribes be killed
06:00and raised again upon the third day God forbid Lord this shall never happen to you
06:11get behind me Satan or you are not on the side of God but of man if any man would
06:20come after me let him deny himself take up his cross and follow me for whoever would
06:27save his life will lose whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel will save it for what
06:34shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul or what shall a man give
06:43in exchange for his soul whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this
06:50adulterous and sinful generation of him also shall the son of man be ashamed when he comes in the
06:57glory of his father with the holy angels truly I say to you there are some standing here who will not
07:05see death before they see the kingdom of God come with power
07:20sometime later Jesus took with him Peter James and John and went up on the mountain to pray
07:27alone on the summit the little group began a period of spiritual meditation but the three disciples their
07:52eyes heavy with sleep were unaware that a moment of glory was to be shared with their Lord who was
07:58a little apart from them in prayer then suddenly they saw the master as they had never seen him before
08:11the appearance of his countenance was altered and his raiment became dazzling white the Savior was
08:21transfigured before them and behold there suddenly appeared with Jesus Elijah and Moses who talked
08:29with him about his departure which he was to accomplish in Jerusalem when Peter saw this he spoke to Jesus
08:36and told him that it was well that they were there and he suggested that three tabernacles be built one
08:42for Jesus one for Moses and one for Elijah and while Peter was yet speaking behold a bright cloud overshadowed them
08:51Peter and the others were exceedingly afraid and then they heard a great voice come out of the cloud this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased hear ye
09:13rise be not afraid when they heard the voice of their Lord the three disciples looked about them and found that there was no
09:43no one there anymore but only Jesus in themselves
09:50the following day Jesus Peter James and John made their way down the mountain to the valley where they had left the other disciples
10:10as they followed their master down the mountain they thought of what had been revealed to them and they thought of what had been revealed to them and they were
10:17during the night and questions began to arise in their minds especially when Jesus cautioned them
10:24tell no man of a vision until the son of man is raised from the dead
10:31master
10:38why did the scribes say that Elijah must first come
10:40Elijah is coming and will restore all things
10:42but I tell you Elijah has already come and they did not recognize him but did to him
10:49whatever they pleased
10:51so also the son of man will suffer at their hands
10:54so also the son of man will suffer at their hands
10:57then the disciples understood that Jesus was speaking to them of John the Baptist
11:04so also the son of man will suffer at their hands
11:11so also the son of man will suffer at their hands
11:13then the disciples understood that Jesus was speaking to them of John the Baptist
11:19the Lord
11:42meanwhile a group of excited people had gathered about the other disciples who awaited the return of their Lord and their fellow disciples
11:48and their fellow disciples. While they waited, a man had brought his son to them to be healed,
11:54for the boy was suffering from an unclean spirit. But the disciples' efforts had been unsuccessful.
12:00The father had hoped that the disciples would be able to cure his son, just as their master
12:05had cured others. But he was keenly disappointed when they failed to heal the boy. This was an
12:12hour of triumph for the scribes who were present. They seized this opportunity to ridicule the
12:17disciples. Why do you not heal the boy, they asked the disciples. Where is your teacher?
12:23Why does he not come and cast out the devils for you?
12:31He is coming! The master is coming!
12:38Master, I need you! Master, you are best!
12:41What were you disputing with them?
12:58Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic, and he suffers terribly. And I brought him to your
13:07disciples. But they could not heal him.
13:11Your faithless generation.
13:14How long am I to be with you?
13:16How long am I to bear with you?
13:19Bring him to me.
13:20How long has he had this?
13:36From a childhood.
13:38And it has often cast him into the fire and into the water to destroy him.
13:42But if you can do anything, have pity on us, and help us.
13:51If you can.
13:54All things are possible to him who believes.
14:02Lord, I believe.
14:06Help my unbelief.
14:09You dumb and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again.
14:20Thank you, master.
14:46As the disciples prepared for their journey back to Galilee,
15:14Galilee, they were silent and thoughtful.
15:18What they had witnessed revealed to them again their own weakness, and the power of their master.
15:25Lord.
15:25Why could not we cast out the evil spirit?
15:34Because of your little faith.
15:37For truly I say to you,
15:39if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed,
15:42you will say to this mountain,
15:44move hence to yonder place,
15:46and it will move.
15:47And nothing will be impossible to you.
15:49Jesus' words were not so much a rebuke,
15:53as they were a promise.
15:55A promise that all things are possible through faith.
16:00But the promise was not to these disciples only.
16:03It was a promise to every disciple of every age.
16:07A promise to all who accept Jesus as God's beloved son.
16:11And man's only hope for eternal salvation.
16:15A promise to all who accept Jesus as God's beloved son.
16:16A promise to all who accept Jesus as God's beloved son.
16:17A promise to all who accept Jesus as God's beloved son.
16:18A promise to all who accept Jesus as God's beloved son.
16:19A promise to all who accept Jesus as God's beloved son.
16:20A promise to all who accept Jesus as God's beloved son.
16:21A promise to all who accept Jesus as God's beloved son.
16:22A promise to all who accept Jesus as God's beloved son.
16:23A promise to all who accept Jesus as God's beloved son.
16:24A promise to all who accept Jesus as God's beloved son.
16:25A promise to all who accept Jesus as God's beloved son.
16:26A promise to all who accept Jesus as God's beloved son.
16:27A promise to all who accept Jesus as God's beloved son.
16:28A promise to all who accept Jesus as God's beloved son.
