00:00In the small town of Bethlehem, not far from the city of Jerusalem, in the land of Israel,
00:19Jesus, the promised Savior, had been born in a lowly stable.
00:24Mary, his mother, knew that in order to fulfill the law of Moses,
00:27she and Joseph must soon take the baby to the temple and make an offering as the child was presented to God.
00:35And so Mary and Joseph brought him to the temple in Jerusalem.
00:39And Joseph offered a pair of doves as a sacrifice of thanksgiving when Jesus was only a few weeks old.
00:48But the priests did not realize who this child was.
00:52They did not know that he was the promised Savior, whose birth had been prophesied throughout the ages.
01:10Thus it was that Jesus' name was written among the firstborn of Israel.
01:15In Jerusalem was a good and holy man, whose name was Simeon.
01:28The Holy Spirit had made it known to him that he would not die until he had seen the Savior.
01:35Great was Simeon's faith.
01:37Moved by the Spirit, he had come to the temple where he was waiting for the event.
01:41And as Mary and Joseph and the baby came closer, Simeon's heart suddenly leaped.
01:49This was the day.
01:51The Savior had come at last.
01:53And when Simeon looked down upon the child, he gave thanks to God.
01:59And he took the baby in his arms.
02:00Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace according to thy word.
02:20For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, that thou hast prepared in the face of all people.
02:27A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
02:37Behold, this child is set for fall and rising again of many in Israel.
02:47And for a sign that shall be spoken against.
02:57Lo, a sword shall pierce through thine own soul also, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.
03:09Nearby, there stood an old prophetess named Anna.
03:15She was a widow of many years, and she never left the temple, but stayed there night and day, fasting and praying.
03:23And Anna, too, came and gave thanks to God for the coming of the Savior.
03:26And so, in the city of Jerusalem, where Jesus was later to be crucified,
03:34these two faithful old people knew and believed that this baby was the Savior of the world.
03:40At the time when Jesus was born in Bethlehem, there were wise men in a far distant country in the east who had studied the stars.
03:54They, too, knew that the promised Savior had been born.
03:58Now they were on the long journey to find him.
04:01When they arrived in Jerusalem, the wise men asked some of the people,
04:08Where is he who has been born king of the Jews?
04:10For we have seen his star in the east and have come to worship him.
04:15This announcement from the wise men instantly created much excitement among the people of Jerusalem.
04:21But since they could not tell anyone about a new king,
04:24the wise men decided that they would have to search elsewhere.
04:31In those days, Herod the Great, the ruler of Judea, was staying at his palace in Jerusalem.
04:37He was a cruel man and had committed many crimes.
04:41There were those who came to Herod and told him of the wise men who had come from the east,
04:46of the star they had seen,
04:48and of the one who they said had been born king of the Jews.
04:51King of the Jews?
04:53I, Herod, am king of the Jews.
04:55Who is this new king that these wise men have come to worship?
04:58Tell my counselors to come in at once.
05:06Herod was greatly troubled by this news.
05:09And when the chief priests and scribes were assembled,
05:12he asked of them where the Christ was to be born.
05:15For he knew that a savior had been promised to the Jews.
05:18In Bethlehem of Judea, as it was written by the prophet.
05:21Now, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, art not the least among the princes of Judah.
05:29For out of thee shall come a governor that shall rule my people Israel.
05:34But when Herod received this news, a plan began to form in his mind.
05:38He never intended letting any newborn baby grow up to be king of the Jews.
05:42And so he dismissed the priests and scribes.
05:48After secretly sending for the wise men,
05:51Herod asked them at what time they had seen the star.
05:54Then he instructed them to find the child.
05:57Go search for this child.
05:59When you have found him, bring word to me
06:01that I too may come and worship him.
06:04Then the wise men, having heard the king, went their way.
06:15And lo, the star which they had seen in the east went before them,
06:19till it came to rest over where the young child was.
06:26And coming into the house, they saw the child with Mary, his mother.
06:30And they fell down and worshipped him.
06:33And they offered him gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh.
06:41However, the wise men, being warned by God in a dream
06:45that they should not return to Herod,
06:47went back to their own country another way.
06:51And when they had gone, one night as Joseph lay asleep,
06:55an angel of the Lord came to him in a dream and warned him.
07:00Arise, and take the young child and his mother and flee into Egypt.
07:06And be thou there until I bring thee word.
07:09For Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
07:30Joseph awakened Mary and told her of the angel's message.
07:54There was no time to lose.
07:56They must make hasty preparations for their journey.
08:02And so that very night,
08:04Joseph took the child and his mother and departed into Egypt.
08:08Meanwhile, Herod had waited in vain for the wise men to come back.
08:20Now he was furious.
08:23Realizing that he had been mocked,
08:24Herod decided to put an evil plan into action at once.
08:27Go to Bethlehem.
08:33All places near there.
08:35Take every boy, baby, two years or less and put them all to death.
08:44Yes.
08:46Herod thought that his order would surely do away with any newborn king
08:49who might someday take his place.
08:52He did not know that Jesus was already on the way to Egypt.
08:55There, the little family stayed for a while.
09:01Mary and Joseph gave Jesus their loving care.
09:04They were happy,
09:05for God had protected them from the cruel Herod.
09:10Then one night,
09:12the angel of the Lord came again to Joseph in a dream.
09:17Arise,
09:18and take the young child and his mother
09:20and go to the land of Israel,
09:22for they are dead which sought the young child's life.
09:30So once more,
09:31Joseph obeyed the angel
09:32and took the child and his mother
09:34back to the land of Israel.
09:35The journey from Egypt was long and tiring.
09:48As they had nowhere to rest at night
09:49except by the roadside,
09:52Joseph prepared a fire to keep them warm
09:54while they slept.
09:54But when Joseph heard that Archelaus,
10:06the son of Herod,
10:07was now king of Judea in his father's place,
10:10he was afraid to go back to Bethlehem.
10:13For he knew that Herod's son was also a cruel man
10:16and might bring harm to the child.
10:17And so,
10:25having been warned again in a dream,
10:28Joseph turned and took Mary and the child
10:29into the province called Galilee,
10:32where the new king's power did not reach.
10:42In Galilee,
10:43they went to live in the town of Nazareth,
10:45which had been their home before Jesus was born.
10:48Joseph worked hard
10:49and Mary cared for the boy.
10:51Here they were happy,
10:53living in the love of God
10:54among familiar surroundings and old friends.
10:59The Galilean land lay quiet
11:01under the changing seasons.
11:03The men worked in the fields and groves.
11:06Sometimes there was no rain
11:08and the land lay dry under the hot sun.
11:11Sometimes the streams and springs were full
11:14and the harvest was plentiful.
11:17And so the years passed.
11:21When Jesus was 12 years old,
11:23he went with Mary and Joseph
11:24and a group of travelers to Jerusalem
11:26for the feast of the Passover.
11:29As the travelers were resting
11:30on the return journey to Nazareth,
11:32his parents missed Jesus
11:33and went among the people looking for him.
11:35Have you seen Jesus anywhere?
11:37No, I haven't.
11:40I thought he was with you.
11:41We miss him coming out of Jerusalem,
11:43but we thought he might have been with friends.
11:45We've asked everybody we've met,
11:46but no one has seen him.
11:48We'd best go back and look for him.
11:53So they went back to Jerusalem.
11:56They could not understand
11:57how Jesus could have been left behind,
11:59and they were worried about him.
12:00It was a big city.
12:02Perhaps something had happened to him.
12:07After searching the streets of Jerusalem
12:09for three days,
12:10they finally came to the temple.
12:12Perhaps someone there had seen Jesus.
12:14And there they finally found him,
12:29in the study room of the temple,
12:31talking with the teachers,
12:32who were all surprised at his understanding
12:34and his answers on many things.
12:37Then why have you treated us so?
12:39Your father and I have been looking for you anxiously.
12:42How is it that you sought me?
12:44Did you not know I must be about my father's business?
12:48And so, in the temple
12:49where he had been presented as a baby,
12:52and where Simeon and Anna
12:53had recognized him as the Savior,
12:56Nazareth was to be his home for many years.
12:59And Jesus was obedient to Mary and Joseph
13:02while he grew up in mind and body,
13:05and in favor with God and man.
13:14and then...
13:18he came to Ré О' vakant's
13:27and then he lived with God.
13:28He was rushed to the temple,
13:29and then apparently there had little
13:31works all the way that I ever had decided
13:32and we didn't put my first door.
13:33And then and then,
13:34yk's very good to be with God.
13:35Welcome to his home,
13:36and I'm also back in the temple,
13:37and I gon' have power and patience.
