00:11welcome back to making it simple hope you're doing great we're going to wrap up our lesson
00:16that we've been calling victory uh looking at the totality if you will of where this started
00:23back series ago uh in lessons ago we began with the reality of evil and then we kind of moved
00:31that
00:32needle to what is good and now we're concluding that three-part kind of a thing uh with victory
00:40how do we get there again we go back to romans 12 21 which i've shared many many times in
00:47my life
00:47verse you know don't be conquered by evil do not be conquered by evil but conquer evil with good
00:53so we we learn through all of this that evil is real that's not a question but we also understand
01:01that good is real which ultimately brings us to the subject of victory that we've been looking at here
01:08through john 16 we learn that not only is this possible but that it is possible through an avenue
01:17what what does that mean so in other words the fact that it's possible leads us to the understanding
01:23of how is that possible all right so victory can be achieved but in our verse here that we've been
01:31looking at exclusively john 16 and 33 we we see that the avenue is also simplistic because jesus said
01:41i've told you these things so that in me that is the key to understanding this friends is that personal
01:49relationship with the one who is capable all right so we understand that through the person of christ
01:57what he offers us he he he is speaking to us not not just with authority oftentimes what we find
02:09in the
02:09the confines of teaching and can i'll be honest with you for a minute i really get annoyed
02:17by some who use the word preaching uh as a bully pulpit as a platform to to be in your
02:25face and jump up and
02:26down and really make a show that's not preaching okay that's not teaching that's a spectacle that is look at
02:35me look at how foolish i can act or look at how political i can be or look at how
02:40dogmatic and
02:41legalistic i can be and i can shame you and tell you how awful you are friends none of that
02:47and i mean
02:48none of that points anybody to christ none and if you study and understand the person the mission
02:55the vision the everything that jesus brought to be the example well he didn't do any of that either
03:02now someone's going to argue with me oh he did that go back and read it go read it for
03:09yourself
03:09that's my challenge to you jesus spoke with confidence why and how well let's look at the rest of this
03:19verse all right listen to what it says all right so i have told you these things so that in
03:26me you may
03:26have peace all right we've talked about that that's an affirmative in me you may have peace
03:33so here's the offering here's the opportunity you will have suffering in this world that's a factual
03:41statement he's not negating that he's not ignoring that he's he's not pointing you in any other direction but
03:48honesty and if we've lived any length of time we know well that's true there's a lot of things that
03:53kind of
03:54aren't so great in this lifetime but listen to the rest of it and here's where we conclude things
03:59today be courageous
04:05so i have an answer in the very first part in me i have a factual statement in this world
04:12there's
04:12going to be some things that's going to booger it up it's not going to be good
04:16be courageous how am i able to do that it's the first part in me and all goes back to
04:24that
04:24relationship listen to what he says be courageous i have conquered the world this is how he can speak
04:34with confidence not not not just authority like look at me you know no no no no no he looked
04:40evil in
04:41the eye he acknowledges that it's real but he also tells us here he defeated it how great is that
04:51he
04:52tells us in this in this ending text part he says be courageous what stand strong hang on you can
05:00do this
05:01one hears this and they say but pastor how what did he say i have told you these things so
05:10i've made it
05:10honest with you so that it's capable it's possible in me you may have peace it's all about knowing and
05:22trusting him that's where our victory comes not in who can tell you how wrong you've been not in who
05:29can remind you of all your failures no no it's about knowing the one that makes all that better that
05:38delivers you from that it's about being the leper the untouchable the the the undesirable being made
05:46clean that's what this is all about being courageous when he says that that points us to being a conqueror
05:55but i'm in such a terrible fight in my life right but what he says be courageous this is this
06:01is not
06:01merely we got to understand the beauty of this friends this is not just a cheerleading moment oh come on
06:07you can do it no this is a call this is a challenge to lean on what we claim to
06:18believe in other words is it real
06:23do i really trust it um and even more so do i trust him i i i i call on
06:33jesus man i love jesus
06:35but do you trust him but do you trust him and i've said this before but it bears repeating friends
06:42you
06:42don't trust who you don't know and you don't follow who you don't trust or you shouldn't he said be
06:52courageous i have think about this i that's again singular everything about understanding who jesus is
07:01goes back to that important component singular i have that is not i tried i might i thought about it
07:09no i have that is completion i have conquered the world now we hear that and we think about you
07:19know
07:19all the idiotic stupidity that's going on around us right now that's not what he's talking about he's not
07:27a ruler or a dictator or or some ridiculous politician no he's saying i have conquered the world what is
07:34he
07:34talking about the world system the things that we allow to rule our lives the lies that keep us from
07:48believing the biggest lie that there is no hope that there is no possibility of a chance for joy
07:56there is no way to win because that's not true and that is what he's telling us i have told
08:05you
08:05these things so that in me there's your answer you may have peace in this world you're going to have
08:13sufferings it's going to happen in this world but be courageous be courageous because i have conquered
08:21the world what does that mean you can do it too through him in me all he's saying that is
08:27be courageous
08:28i i have done it i have overcome the world i have conquered i have defeated all these lies
08:36which means you can too we can have strength through the person of christ we can have strength
08:41through this relationship through this acknowledgement friends we understand this
08:45and it's possible but we need encouragement and encouragement comes with lifting each other up
08:52encouragement comes with building instead of tearing down we we live in a time right now
09:01it's monday february the 10th i think it's today or something like that ninth tenth whatever it is
09:10yesterday depending on when you watch this was the super bowl we are living in a time to where you
09:16can't even enjoy just a football game now or the or a baseball game or a wrestling match or or
09:23a boxing
09:24match or whatever whatever your flavor is doesn't matter whatever you like we can't even enjoy that now
09:28because of the ridiculous nature of the divide that is in this world right now evil is real
09:37evil is running rampant all over the place and it is causing many to suffer
09:47with the living in the bubble of dishonesty and lies because in the concept of that what it keeps
09:54telling everybody is it can't get better unless you vote in somebody better unless you pass a new rule
10:03let me ask you this we'll soon be coming up on the 250th year existence of this country
10:13what rule and what leader has ever truly made it better now i don't say that to decry our nation
10:22at
10:22all i have a problem living here or acknowledging being from here not at all no whatsoever we have
10:28foolish people that do foolish things but so does everywhere else in the world but if we're just
10:32waiting to get well we just got to get so and so in office and it'll get better well we've
10:36done that
10:36multiple times based on a promise and it was never true ever and it probably never will be because we
10:43deal
10:43with flawed people jesus said i have told you these things so that in me in me not in some
10:51office
10:52not in some entertainers closet not on somebody's island not no in me you may have peace there's the
11:00answer friends that's what it is evil is real good is real evil is causing a lot of people to
11:06suffer in a
11:07whole lot of ways but if we understand what he's telling us here he's saying hang on don't quit evil's
11:16real but evil will not win but here's the spoiler alert jesus does so my friends rest in that rest
11:27in
11:27that today he has told us these things so that in him we may have peace hang on that today
11:34and let me
11:35encourage you if you don't know him it's not difficult he's just waiting on you to say yes
