00:01Previously on Project Runway All Stars.
00:04Oh boy, he's wearing feathers.
00:06Hello.
00:07Hi, Daniel.
00:08Your challenge, embrace the peacocking trend
00:11and create a menswear look worthy of 1,000 flashbulbs.
00:16Wow.
00:18I like it.
00:19So that's going to be stitched down.
00:20I just haven't done any major stitching yet.
00:22I want to do a bulletproof vest.
00:24A bulletproof what?
00:26Your opinion?
00:28The winning look elevated male peacocking to a whole new level.
00:34The winner is Rami.
00:38France, your design was too reserved.
00:41Praje, your color story and fabric choice were confusing.
00:46Praje, you are out.
00:52Fashion designer, Christian Siriano.
00:54Journalist, Elaine Welteroff.
00:56Fashion designer, Brandon Maxwell.
00:58And editor in chief of Elle Magazine, Nina Garcia.
01:01Are looking for America's next great fashion designer.
01:05At stake for the winner, a quarter of a million dollars.
01:08Supplied by Pilot Friction erasable pens.
01:11A feature in Elle Magazine.
01:13And a career changing mentorship with the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
01:18This is Project Runway.
01:20All stars.
01:28And then there were four.
01:29It's really four of us.
01:31Seriously.
01:32Damn, guys.
01:33Like I've been waiting for somebody else to walk in.
01:35This is really awesome.
01:36On my season 17, I made it to the final four.
01:41And unfortunately, I was kicked off.
01:45Fish me.
01:46I'm sorry.
01:47That means you are out.
01:48I've always dreamed of what my collection will look like if I was to make it to the finale.
01:53Oh, that.
01:54It's from Christian Serial now.
01:55Really?
01:56What you got?
01:57No.
01:58He said, good morning, designers.
02:00Just one challenge to go before the finale.
02:02Time for a field trip.
02:04Meet me at Summit 1 Vanderbilt and prepare to extend the horizon of your imagination.
02:10Summit, let's go.
02:11I'm ready.
02:12Going on an adventure.
02:13Yay.
02:14What's this building?
02:15It's 1 Vanderbilt.
02:16Oh, wow.
02:17This building is beautiful.
02:18Come here.
02:19It's 1 Vanderbilt.
02:20I think we're going up.
02:21Let's just be surprised.
02:22I don't know.
02:23We're going to the future.
02:24Oh, wow.
02:25Oh, my God.
02:26Look at this.
02:27This is electric.
02:28This is crazy.
02:29Oh, my God.
02:30This is hard.
02:31Oh, my God.
02:32Oh, my God.
02:33I love this.
02:34Wow.
02:35Oh, my God.
02:36No way.
02:37Oh, my God.
02:38Oh, my God.
02:39Oh, my God.
02:40Oh, my God.
02:41Oh, my God.
02:42Oh, my God.
02:43Oh, my God.
02:44No way.
02:46We walk into this ginormous open space.
02:49The floor feels like it's literally mirrored,
02:52because as I'm looking below, I'm seeing the ceiling,
02:55but it gives one the illusion that we're standing on glass.
02:58Oh.
02:59Look at this.
03:00You got it!
03:02This doesn't even look real.
03:04Does it feel like you're flying?
03:05You can see the whole city from this angle.
03:07I feel my body trembling.
03:09I'm not a big fan of very high heights.
03:12Wow.
03:13What is the challenge?
03:14Is this when Christian comes in?
03:16What if Christian just comes from the bottom like this?
03:19Designers.
03:20He floats.
03:21Hi, designers.
03:22Oh.
03:23I'm over here.
03:25I see, like, 50 of you.
03:27No, he's over there.
03:28I can see.
03:29This is so disorienting.
03:30Over here.
03:32Hi.
03:33Oh, hey.
03:34Isn't that bad?
03:35This is crazy.
03:36Welcome to Summit One Vanderbilt.
03:38It's an immersive design installation by artist Kenzo Digital.
03:43It adds a whole new dimension of the stunning New York City skyline.
03:48Every step of the room brings a new perspective.
03:51It makes you question reflection versus reality.
03:55It's beautiful.
03:56You guys ready to find out what stands between you and the finale?
04:00Of course.
04:01Yes.
04:02The challenge that will decide who makes a collection for New York Fashion Week.
04:07Who has a chance of winning the grand prize?
04:11A quarter of a million dollars supplied by Pilot Friction erasable pens.
04:16A feature in Elle Magazine.
04:18A career-changing mentorship with the CFDA.
04:22Also, six months of PR representation from Agentry PR.
04:26Hell yeah.
04:27Coco Chanel once said, fashion is architecture.
04:31Both create a shelter for people in different forms.
04:34And both have a similar goal.
04:36Creating beauty.
04:37Your challenge is to be inspired by the architectural masterpiece around you.
04:43And create an avant-garde look worthy of the finale.
04:48Yes.
04:49And this is it.
04:50During my original season, I got to the avant-garde challenge and just could not bring it home.
04:55Got cut the episode before the finale.
04:58Avant-garde is so, so incredibly subjective.
05:01I mean, essentially, avant-garde is a way of provoking thought and fashion.
05:07And that's my goal.
05:08I've had a lot of time to think about it.
05:10Okay.
05:11Trust me.
05:12Mm-hmm.
05:13Laurence, what do you think?
05:14I love architecture.
05:15That's actually one of my number one inspiration.
05:17Great place to be then.
05:18Yes.
05:19And designers, this is a two-day challenge.
05:21You're gonna have 40 minutes now to sketch.
05:23Roam throughout the exhibit.
05:25So you guys could be inspired by things in this room, things outside of the room, the views.
05:30I left your sketch pads and model cards in the next room over.
05:34I'll meet you at Mood when you're done.
05:36Have fun.
05:37Thanks.
05:38What?
05:39What mirror should I check?
05:41Wow.
05:42This is amazing.
05:43This is a silver birthday party.
05:44You want that?
05:45Oh, there it is.
05:47I'll take an iPad.
05:49Get some models.
05:50I find myself landing in the balloon room.
05:56Everywhere you look, you see a different angle of yourself or you see a different perspective.
06:01So I plan on designing an avant-garde cocktail dress with this huge round belt as well as an avant-garde hat to represent the reflection of this room.
06:14Not a lie.
06:15The buildings that are below me actually start big and get smaller down towards the ground.
06:22These skewed proportions are really inspiring me.
06:25So I really want to sketch something that has like proportions that go from really big to small and vice versa.
06:32I got a makeup for last week.
06:34I was on the bottom.
06:35To me, it's a confused businessman who moonlights at like an S&M bar.
06:40F that.
06:41Now I got to double it up.
06:43I'm taking in the beautiful space we're in and there's one building in particular that catches my eye.
06:48The side of it looked like, you know, if you had ice cream and you took a scoop out of it.
06:52I think it's interesting.
06:53I'm sketching this dress with the hips out.
06:57The waist is very small and then you have a jacket on top.
07:00It's super risky too because this is the last four and I'm going to attempt to make this crazy piece that I don't know if I can make.
07:09Avant-garde really is about creating a cutting edge look.
07:13It strays away from like the wearability of things as much as it leans into the imagination of things.
07:19I'm thinking about doing contrasting colors to reflect the way the sunlight is hitting the building.
07:26Texture that emulates the clouds.
07:29I'm thinking in an architectural way.
07:32A garment that redefines the shape of the body.
07:36Hey, look.
07:37I think I see mood.
07:38Do you want to go and get our fabrics?
07:39Yeah.
07:40Can we jump from here?
07:41Yeah, it would be, right?
07:46Beating.
07:47It's on sale.
07:48Ooh.
07:49Very sparkly.
07:50And the beating.
07:51Avant-garde.
07:52This is a big one.
07:53Yeah.
07:54So just take a risk.
07:55Yeah.
07:5630 minutes to shop.
07:57$700.
07:58Make every second count and every cent count.
08:01Good luck.
08:02Go.
08:0430 minutes.
08:05Feathers.
08:06This is my avant-garde look.
08:08Four yards of this, please.
08:09I'm looking to use these fabrics to express sculpture.
08:13I'm grabbing like a satin so it has a little bit of a shine.
08:16Rami, you have nothing in your bag.
08:17Nothing in your bag.
08:18I do.
08:19They're cutting it.
08:20Is that black vinyl yours upstairs?
08:21No, I guess silver.
08:22Silver and black.
08:23It looks shiny.
08:24What's it going to be?
08:26Dress.
08:27Like a gown?
08:28No.
08:29No, just a short dress.
08:30Avant-garde enough?
08:31Absolutely.
08:32I get four yards of that.
08:33I find this vinyl that is a deep purplish blue that has a reflection to it.
08:42I like this.
08:43I was thinking about if it was at night.
08:44That's cool.
08:45Vinyl is very stiff and what vinyl loves to do is create structure.
08:51This being heavily inspired by the summit building, I want to make sure that I'm incorporating and using a fabric that showcases structure.
09:00What?
09:0110 minutes.
09:02Oh .
09:03Somebody needs to get crazy with this.
09:05I want something insane.
09:07Brittany, what are you getting?
09:10It's like reflective.
09:11I'm going to do like this body suit into these like oversized sleeve puffer thing.
09:15It's like the windows that I was seeing outside.
09:17Very cool.
09:18What the fuck are you doing?
09:20Ronnie.
09:21Okay.
09:22I'm done.
09:23Two minutes, designers.
09:24Two minutes.
09:25You have to be in line.
09:26What are we at?
09:276.98.
09:2897.
09:31All right.
09:32See you guys tomorrow for a walkthrough.
09:34Awesome.
09:35Thanks, Moo.
09:36Have fun.
09:37Avant-garde.
09:38Architecture.
09:39Make it fabulous.
09:40Make it fab.
09:41Coming up.
09:42She's got little cuffs in the middle.
09:44So she's got little baby dino hands.
09:46What?
09:47It's really risky.
09:49I'm a little nervous.
09:57What a day.
09:58We were on top of the world.
09:59And now we're back at this place.
10:02You're welcome.
10:03Once these bags feel like heavier and heavier.
10:0639.
10:11I didn't see anything.
10:13Everybody can feel the pressure.
10:15Because this is not just making it to the next challenge.
10:18This is making it to the finale.
10:19So I have to push myself for this avant-garde challenge.
10:23Which leather?
10:24Oh, is that leather?
10:25Oh, I got us.
10:26Yeah.
10:27You know, you're always as good as your last design.
10:29So I got to make a piece that is going to surpass any pieces that I put on the runway so far.
10:34As there are less of us here, every challenge becomes more difficult.
10:38Everyone here is worthy of the finale.
10:41My inspiration is cement and sort of like metallics.
10:45I wanted to create architectural themes through the gown that make it feel like an actual structure itself.
10:51I'm trying to get some bases started so I can have stuff.
10:54Yeah.
10:55I know that I want to make a bustier top and a belt that has the exaggerated detail in the back.
11:01So I'm making a big-ass balloon.
11:04I want for her to be able to walk without having to hold it.
11:08So I'm creating this wired cage to support the structure.
11:13Are you afraid of heights?
11:14No.
11:15No?
11:16When I was at Summit, I'm literally seeing 91 floors beneath me.
11:20This challenge for me, in a way, it's about facing any kind of fear.
11:25I feel like that head that you have on top of your mannequin needs a name.
11:28A hedgera.
11:29Hedgera.
11:30And then we have another one that's going to come down there.
11:36When I was a young child, I wanted to be an architect.
11:40But fashion became a hustle.
11:42I was just like, okay, well, let me just go to fashion school.
11:44And I think that's probably why I like lines and contouring in my designs.
11:50Hey, guys.
11:51Hey.
11:52We got Uno Mas Auer.
11:54That's it?
11:55That's it.
11:56The new Bishmikramardi Hill.
11:59Coming to a store near you.
12:01Oh, so much paper.
12:03Just a simple sleeve for one.
12:05That's a sleeve pattern?
12:06Yeah.
12:07Wow.
12:08I'm going to do it.
12:09Hey.
12:10What?
12:11I feel you.
12:12I love making hats.
12:13I think this is going to be my signature.
12:15Yeah.
12:16Time's up!
12:17Okay.
12:18Let's go to the lounge and get some drinks.
12:19Yes.
12:20All right.
12:21Home of all the great nightlife.
12:23Home of Yankees and Mets in the fly fashion.
12:26This is the best day ever.
12:27Can we do a top board?
12:29Top board!
12:30Anyone do avant-garde in their practice at all?
12:34For me, avant-garde is like taking me from like 20 years back, like when we were in school.
12:39For me, I think of things on the hanger.
12:41I think of how well it's going to sell.
12:43And very rarely do I think in like an artistic way, like a conceptual way.
12:47In other challenges, I feel like I'm so married to the design.
12:50And if it changes, I get a little panicky.
12:52Whereas this one, if it changes, it's like, okay, let me.
12:54It's part of the process.
12:55Yeah.
12:56And I don't get so worked up about it.
12:58I want mine to look like it's like made from like recycled fabrics in a sense.
13:04Like I wanted that kind of feeling to it.
13:05I wanted, I exposed all the seams.
13:07I want to do more like frayed edges.
13:09To do what?
13:10Frayed, frayed edges.
13:11Oh, oh, okay.
13:12On ne parle pas très bien anglais.
13:14Whatever, girl.
13:15I'm sorry.
13:16I have to.
13:17That was a, that was a quick one.
13:18You know what?
13:19Give me a high five.
13:23It's good to be back.
13:24Good morning.
13:25Oh no.
13:26I'm ready to work.
13:27I'm going to pass by your office.
13:29Yeah, this, my office is a mess.
13:31It's nothing there.
13:32Work.
13:33All right.
13:34That's it.
13:35What is you working on?
13:36What is my working on?
13:37This morning.
13:38I am working on seeing if I can add any more shape to my skirt.
13:42And then I'm going to figure out how I can attach this balloon.
13:46Oh, you have an actual balloon?
13:48Well, that circles my fake balloon.
13:50You're so cute.
13:55Good morning, designer.
13:56Good morning.
13:57Good morning.
13:59Yesterday was epic, right?
14:01It was.
14:02It was.
14:03Guys, today's our last walk through before the finale.
14:07Are you happy?
14:08Are you sad?
14:09I am sad, actually.
14:10I mean, I'm happy to be done.
14:13But I'm sad.
14:14I'm going to miss you guys.
14:15We're going to miss you too.
14:16Yes, we're going to miss you too, Christian.
14:18But we're going to power through.
14:20And it's going to be fabulous.
14:21Let me just see what's going on in this room.
14:24Hi, Mr. Seriano.
14:25What's happening?
14:26Look at you.
14:27Got a lot done.
14:28This is it.
14:29Yeah.
14:30This is the one.
14:31This is the one.
14:32Avant-garde.
14:33Avant-garde.
14:34Architecture.
14:35When we went to the Summit place, I love how, when you were in there, everywhere you
14:39looked, you saw, like, the reflection.
14:40Mm-hmm.
14:41And then also, I love the balloon room.
14:43Yeah.
14:44But I was trying to imagine what it would look like at night.
14:47So, this is my interpretation of it.
14:49Um, are you putting this wire in here?
14:52Yeah, because I want it to be really round when she walks and structured.
14:56Mm-hmm.
14:57The baseball hat again.
14:58Interesting.
14:59I think that's my signature.
15:00What if the brim was a little more avant-garde?
15:05Like, could it be a more paneled shape?
15:08What if she wears it in a different way?
15:11Like, it covers her face, and then you create an opening for the eye or something.
15:14Got you.
15:15That could be cool.
15:16I see what you're saying.
15:17And that's avant-garde, not costume.
15:18Got you.
15:19Yeah, get this wire in there.
15:21You're gonna help me stuff it.
15:22Goodbye.
15:24Brittany.
15:25Hey, Christian.
15:26How's it going?
15:27You know what I was thinking about this morning?
15:28What?
15:29This is our 24th walkthrough together.
15:3124th walkthrough?
15:32Yeah.
15:33Really?
15:3412 challenges.
15:35Wow.
15:36But no finale yet.
15:37No finale.
15:38So, I really want it.
15:40You have to have it.
15:41I want it.
15:42You're obsessed with it.
15:43Yeah.
15:44I feel it.
15:45I feel the energy in this little nook.
15:47I know.
15:48What is this turning into now?
15:49Okay.
15:50So, I wanted to do like this, essentially like a puffer.
15:53This big puffer.
15:54Dressing.
15:55And only leave a little bit of the bottom open.
15:57What if you did showcase...
15:59This waist.
16:00The waist.
16:01Yeah.
16:02And the shape, and it was more cropped, and maybe up here is even more voluminous.
16:06Or these are super big and bubbly, and then it gets more clean up here.
16:10Yeah.
16:11Yeah.
16:12Christian is saying all the things that are in the back of my mind that I know are correct.
16:17Good luck.
16:19Work really hard.
16:20Yes.
16:21Goodbye.
16:22Bye.
16:24Laurence.
16:25Oui.
16:26We're here.
16:27Bonjour.
16:28You have a sketch.
16:29Look at this.
16:30What even is this?
16:32So, I'm basically making an architectural dress.
16:36And this is kind of like innovative and forward-thinking because...
16:41The technical part of it is a little crazy.
16:44It is crazy.
16:45Yeah.
16:46But I do think you could push this a little bit more.
16:49I think you need one surprising element.
16:52Yeah.
16:53Because that's what you're so good at.
16:54Yeah.
16:55You know?
16:56So, I love the shape.
16:57Hopefully, I get this done in the next two hours, three hours, and then I can go crazy on the top.
17:00Good luck.
17:01You have a lot to do.
17:02Oh, gosh.
17:05Oh, Rami.
17:07How are you feeling?
17:08You had a major win.
17:09I honestly felt really happy that night.
17:11Yeah.
17:12Because it's not something that I expected.
17:13Yeah.
17:14You know, I reached like a new potential for myself in a sense.
17:15Yeah.
17:16So, that felt really good.
17:17Yeah.
17:18Here, I am working on this elongated shaped dress.
17:23And it's going to be on this side here.
17:25So, there's...
17:26So, it's sculpture there.
17:27Shape on one side.
17:28There's sculpture here.
17:29And then what happens at the bottom?
17:30And then it's going to be fitted and it's going to flare out at the bottom.
17:32So, the skirt will have some transparency in it.
17:35And then I want it to have the strips going through it.
17:38What?
17:40A lot of things.
17:41Maybe it's just some other silhouette.
17:44Okay.
17:45It's really risky.
17:47I don't know.
17:48I'm a little nervous.
18:00All right, designers.
18:01Models will be here in two and a half hours.
18:03Thanks, Christiane.
18:04See you soon.
18:08You okay?
18:09Yeah, it's just a lot of figuring out.
18:11You okay?
18:12As okay as I can be.
18:14That's all that matters, you know?
18:16I'm actually using Christian's suggestion to use the hat in a different way.
18:21So, I'm putting the hat backwards but leaving, like, one of her eyes out.
18:26Growing up wearing your hat backwards could mean that you're affiliated with something.
18:31Now that I don't live in those places anymore, it's my way of giving an old or a nod to my people.
18:40I thought you was dancing.
18:41You thought I was dancing?
18:42Mm-hmm.
18:44Not yet.
18:45Yeah.
18:46Damn.
18:47I'm stressed.
18:48Hello, Christiane.
18:49Hello.
18:50How's it going?
18:51It's good.
18:52Hey, Christiane.
18:53All right.
18:54Excited for a fitting?
18:55Yes.
18:56Yes.
18:57Yes.
18:58Let's get him in here.
18:59Yay.
19:00Finally.
19:01Hello.
19:02I'ma try to think of an artistic way that it, like, go on your head a little bit.
19:07I'll probably make it shorter, you know?
19:10Okay.
19:11Brittany, that's the longest sleeve I ever did see.
19:14How's she getting around?
19:16She's got little cuffs in the middle.
19:18So, she's got little baby dino hands coming out?
19:21Okay, that's avant-garde, I guess.
19:24Hey, that's the point.
19:26What does, hmm, mean?
19:28The under, the under piece.
19:30Okay, hear me out.
19:31What if I just, like, did everything in this?
19:33And I did, like, a bralette with, like, the skirt and the harness thing.
19:36Is it, like, a puffer mini skirt?
19:38What's...
19:39You gotta...
19:40Yeah.
19:43You gotta play around.
19:44Laurence.
19:46It's gonna need something.
19:48No, it's a lot of things.
19:49I just need the base.
19:50Yeah, yeah, yeah.
19:51Cause I can't really do anything and then...
19:52Need some drama.
19:53Yeah.
19:54Give it some drama.
19:58Rami?
19:59Yep.
20:00What is this?
20:01This is fanning out and coming in, and this is fanning out and coming in.
20:04Like, it's like...
20:05Can you love all these panels?
20:07It looks like a hodgepodge.
20:08It needs more boning, and then it's gonna be pinned.
20:13I hope she can see.
20:16She wants it tight.
20:17You love this length?
20:18I don't see everything together.
20:20Oh, you do?
20:21In a fitting?
20:22That's what the fitting for!
20:25All right, designers, five minutes left.
20:27All right, I'm gonna re-cut the hood.
20:29I have to sew it on, so I don't know if we have time.
20:31If I get you a padding, it's okay?
20:32Yeah.
20:33Are you sure?
20:34Just, like, a little bit.
20:35The skirt is partly in muslin.
20:37You can't see every single piece on the model,
20:39but you do what you can with the fitting and with the time given,
20:42and now I need to focus on the skirt and keep cutting it.
20:45All right, designers, that's it.
20:46That's time.
20:47Say goodbye to your models.
20:48Bye, my loves.
20:49I'm gonna do my thing, you know?
20:51All right, no.
20:52Get some sleep.
20:53It's gonna be a big show.
20:55All right, designers.
20:56The next few hours are some of the most important in the competition.
21:00Yeah.
21:01Oh, my God.
21:02I really believe in you guys.
21:03You're so talented, and it's gonna be a fabulous show.
21:06Yeah.
21:07Bye.
21:08Bye.
21:09We love you.
21:12It adds a little bit of psychological pressure,
21:14but I think that I will still stay focused and I will still finish the look,
21:18and I will continue refining the concept,
21:21making a few edits without sacrificing the vision.
21:32Hey, guys.
21:33Let's head home.
21:36Everybody come.
21:37Oh, I'm gonna crash.
21:39So hard.
21:40Now we're back dowsing.
21:45Hi, good morning.
21:47You look very cheerful today.
21:49Well, thank you.
21:50Mind if I sit here?
21:51Please.
21:52Good morning.
21:53When you cook salmon.
21:54Morning, guys.
21:55How's it going?
21:56It's going.
21:57I wanna go ahead and apologize in advance,
21:59because of how my nerves are gonna be so sharp today.
22:02Whenever you are experiencing fear,
22:04it's not always a negative thing.
22:05Yeah.
22:06Sometimes it's actually you're about to step into, like,
22:09a new level of growth in a sense.
22:10Yeah.
22:11So I feel like sometimes feeling those feelings are probably a good sign.
22:14Yeah.
22:15You know?
22:16People don't realize, like, this is hard, man.
22:19So hard.
22:20This changed my whole .
22:21Yeah.
22:22But the best thing that happened after that is how many people you was able to inspire.
22:28Oh, yeah.
22:29One time I went to, um, a children's hospital where this kid had cancer.
22:36She was literally, like, in a hospital bed with all IVs in there.
22:39And all she wanted was, like, a talk with me.
22:43Yeah.
22:44Yeah.
22:45She passed, but, um, we had that moment together, and it meant so much to her.
22:49So that really, like, makes me a little emotional, because it's that special to some people.
22:53Absolutely.
22:54Do you guys have to think about coming back?
22:56Yeah.
22:57Yeah.
22:58I didn't want to come, because I didn't know how my grieving process was going to be.
23:01I didn't know how I was going to react being on here.
23:02I know.
23:03It's pretty fresh, so.
23:04I have to wake up and remind myself that my sister is, like, physically not here, and that once this is over, I can't even show her how amazing this experience has been.
23:15We all should be very proud.
23:17Oh, yeah.
23:18Yeah.
23:19Yeah.
23:20Well, let's go actually do it.
23:21All right.
23:22Finish it.
23:23Let's go.
23:24We got some work to do.
23:26Oh, my God.
23:27Okay.
23:28We got this, you guys.
23:29Yes.
23:30We got this.
23:32Nothing we haven't done before, all right?
23:33Yes.
23:34No.
23:35Look at this sleeve.
23:36I know.
23:37It's ridiculous.
23:38This is amazing.
23:39You guys are pretty amazing.
23:40You're amazing.
23:41I am so impressed with you guys.
23:42So where are we?
23:44Hi, everybody.
23:45Hello.
23:46Hi, Christian.
23:47Hi, Christian.
23:48How's it going?
23:49It's going.
23:50It's going?
23:51Are you ready?
23:52Yeah.
23:53All right.
23:54I'm going to walk around and see what's happening in here.
23:56Interesting things.
23:57I'm doing a fitting with Britney's coat.
23:59You want to?
24:01I would like to try this on, please.
24:07Okay.
24:08Oh, my God.
24:09It's so heavy.
24:10Oh, don't be dramatic.
24:11I can't breathe.
24:12Oh, it's kind of fabulous.
24:13You kind of look like a worm.
24:18I love it.
24:19It's hot.
24:20Get it off me.
24:21Yo, I'm crying, bro.
24:27Hi.
24:28Hello.
24:30Oh, it's sheer.
24:31One panel.
24:32One panel.
24:33Yeah.
24:34You got it to stand up and everything?
24:35Yes.
24:36I put wire in there.
24:37Mm-hmm.
24:38And I actually minimize the shape.
24:39Mm-hmm.
24:40So it has the same wire in there.
24:41Mm-hmm.
24:42It's like a little more simplified.
24:43Yeah.
24:44But it still has the volume.
24:45It's just I took out the wool.
24:46Cool.
24:47I can't wait to see it on.
24:53Interesting.
24:54But it snaps in there.
24:56That goes on top?
24:57Yes.
24:58The shoulder's fabulous.
25:01All right, designers.
25:03Are you ready for your models?
25:05Yes.
25:06Let's get them in here.
25:07Models!
25:09Hi.
25:10Hi.
25:11How's it going?
25:12I'm gonna be a little quick because I have a lot of sewing to do.
25:15I know I have to add something else to make sure this stays up here.
25:19Let me just make sure it's on.
25:23Like that.
25:24Okay, so I'm gonna recut this waistband, but a half an inch.
25:27It's gonna be filled here.
25:30Thank you. Me too, actually.
25:31All right, designers.
25:32When you're ready, take your models to the makeup studio and the Tresemme hair salon.
25:36Hello.
25:37Hello.
25:39My piece is a lot of angles.
25:41Uh-huh.
25:42It's Koya lines, so I like actually that she has a bob, so I wanna keep that straight.
25:46Yeah.
25:47I think that would be nice.
25:48We can use the Tresemme Prone Fusion Smooth Tonic.
25:50It's a great foundational product to help me moisturize your hair.
25:55I kind of want it to be kind of like twisted around.
25:57Ooh.
25:58I love that.
25:59Yeah, I want it to look like...
26:00One of the key products I'm gonna use to achieve this look is the Tresemme Extra Whole Gel.
26:04It leaves your hair looking sleek, it has less alcohol, so it won't dry your hair out.
26:09Yeah, girl, this looks so good.
26:10Designers, 10 minutes, we're leaving this room.
26:13It's your last runway.
26:15Make sure it's perfect.
26:17If you can hold her.
26:19You are a snatch, girl.
26:21Oh, so you took my advice on that hat, didn't you?
26:24Yeah, of course, girl.
26:26You talk a lot, but I listen.
26:28Can you turn around?
26:29I mean, it's a little Batgirl for me.
26:31He's stressing me out.
26:33This is iconic.
26:35Laurance, how's it going?
26:36It's going.
26:37You did the snaps?
26:38Oh, yeah, yeah.
26:39Okay, good.
26:40Brittany?
26:41You sure you're not gonna see a boob slip?
26:44Yeah, because this whole thing cinches.
26:46Because I see boob right now.
26:47It's super hot.
26:48It's like that little, like, hint of underboob.
26:50It's not...
26:51Is it cool?
26:52I mean, I know you're not...
26:53I like boobs.
26:54Excuse me.
26:55I'm just kidding.
26:57Yeah.
26:58All right, designers.
26:59That's it.
27:00That's time.
27:01Let's get to the runway.
27:02Last look, last show.
27:04Yo.
27:05All right.
27:06Five minutes, last look.
27:07You totally got it.
27:08Get a little bit more on the cheeks.
27:10We got an underboob situation.
27:11This is our last runway before the finale.
27:13And I am praying to the gods that this iridescent fabric shows on the runway.
27:19All right, designers.
27:20That's it.
27:21That's time.
27:22Take your seats.
27:23Avant-garde.
27:24Oh, it's gonna be a fabulous show.
27:25You're good.
27:26You're good.
27:37Designers, what a sight to see.
27:41Our top four all-stars.
27:44Congratulations.
27:47Yeah.
27:48You earned the right to be here, and we could not be happier for all of you.
27:53Tonight, we decide who moves on to the finale.
27:56We've brought in two guest judges to help us make this incredibly important and incredibly stressful decision.
28:05Please meet the CEO of the CFDA and our good friend, Steven Kolb.
28:10Woo!
28:13The CFDA mentorship is a big thing around here.
28:16So just so you know, Steven, you're pretty much a celebrity.
28:19I'm excited to be back and meet the four.
28:21I think I remember some of you from the past and look forward to whoever wins getting mentored by the CFDA.
28:27A mentorship from the CFDA.
28:30I know it's destined for me.
28:31This is wicked.
28:32CFD is my sister's initials.
28:35Shamir Faye Ditley.
28:36You got goosies.
28:37Also joining us is the most powerful stylist in the business.
28:42Simply put, he transforms celebrities into fashion icons.
28:47Yeah.
28:49He was also recently awarded the Stylist of the Year, the first time ever, from the CFDA.
28:55Image Architect, Law Roach.
28:57Woo!
28:58Hi!
28:59Hi!
29:00Amazing!
29:01Law Roach dresses some of the biggest names.
29:03We're talking Zendaya, Kerry Washington, you name it.
29:07He has a lot of insight and he knows fashion.
29:10I am so excited to be here.
29:12Unlike Steven, this is my first time being a guest judge.
29:15And what took you so long?
29:19Designers, there is a lot on the line tonight.
29:22We can't wait to see your interpretations of Avant Garde.
29:26Let's start the show.
29:41Avant Garde is literally what I do in my sleep.
29:45I constructed an Avant Garde look and I showcased and used my architectural skills.
29:55This is a whole innovative look and I hope that the judges can see that.
30:06I think this message sends to the other designers that I am that quiet, confident lion.
30:12Just don't freaking mess with him.
30:14I think that she exudes the Avant Garde feeling, the elements from the hair, the makeup, the dramatic collar, the shape of the skirt.
30:34But I do think that the fabric, especially the satin one, is a little bit soft.
30:39The illusion tool is not illusioning.
30:43But do I think that the architecture of the look is there and it's clear?
30:44Absolutely.
30:45This is an Avant Garde look.
30:46It has the architectural elements.
30:48Yeah.
30:49Yeah.
30:50Yeah.
30:51Yeah.
30:52I am living.
30:53This reveal is everything.
30:54The fit is perfect.
30:55But this fabric.
30:56I am living.
30:57I am living.
30:58This reveal is everything.
30:59The fit is perfect.
31:00But this fabric is not reflecting.
31:05And it looks like I just bought a piece of gray fabric and made a puffer coat out of it.
31:12And it looks like I actually feel like I just feel like I'm living like I'm doing this.
31:18I am living.
31:19I am living.
31:20I'm living.
31:21I'm living, this reveal is everything.
31:22I'm living, this reveal is everything.
31:23I am living.
31:24I am living.
31:25This reveal is everything.
31:26The fit is perfect.
31:27But this fabric is not reflecting.
31:28It looks like I just bought a piece of gray fabric
31:31and made a puffer coat out of it.
31:40I actually feel like I really embraced
31:42the perspective of the architecture.
31:58So Mimi is looking beautiful.
32:03Everything fits.
32:04I love it.
32:05Avant-garde could be a lot of things.
32:09But I was able to figure out how to make this complicated outfit
32:13that I designed.
32:19It's a whole look.
32:20There's nothing simple about what I just created.
32:23I think this look represents who I am as a designer
32:26and what I'm capable of doing.
32:28It feels like a great accomplishment.
32:38Wow, designers.
32:40That was really impressive.
32:42This is going to be hard.
32:44Luckily, we have more judges than we have designers.
32:47Oh, my gosh.
32:48Hopefully, we will get the job done.
32:50But truly, each of you should feel so incredibly proud of yourselves.
32:55I think this is going to be the hardest season for me
32:57to really decide who should go forward.
33:00You all did amazing.
33:01Designers, can you all please step up to the runway?
33:08We've scored your designs.
33:10Three of you will be moving on to the finale of Project Runway Season 20.
33:17And one of you will be out.
33:29Three of you will be going on to the finale, the final runway.
33:34We're going to talk to all of you tonight.
33:36Rami, we're going to start with you.
33:38Let's get your model out here.
33:45How was your trip to the summit?
33:46I once was going to have a runway show there, but it was too high for me.
33:48And when I got halfway up the elevator, we had to go back downstairs.
33:51So how was it?
33:52I'm not used to high, very high heights, so that was definitely an experience.
33:57I noticed a lot of interesting buildings, but one in particular stood out.
34:01That one had contrasting sort of like seams and lines.
34:04I wanted to kind of almost like redefine the form through the shapes of the skirt.
34:10I did like three-dimensional type of draping through the seams that wrap around the body.
34:16Talk to me about the fabric choice.
34:17Is it a duchess and like an illusion tool?
34:19It's a silk, a tulle, and a wool and silk blend fabric.
34:24I could tell immediately that the structure was trying to mimic the glass and the metal.
34:32Talk to me a little bit about the hood.
34:34So the tulle almost resembles the clouds in a sense.
34:39So I ruched it through the neckline over the shiny satin part.
34:44There are certain details that are not the usual perfection that you deliver.
34:52I understand.
34:53I do like the cutouts, and I do like the way that the mesh on it is so transparent
34:58that it just looks like you're seeing right through her skin.
35:00I couldn't use that on the red carpet because, you know, as soon as it hits social media,
35:04people are going to zoom in and say, what's going on here?
35:06It's just not going to look flawless as I like my work to be.
35:09Okay.
35:11Appreciate it.
35:12Steven?
35:13I think it's a very tall, strong look.
35:15It feels a little bit raw, but overall I thought you did a great job.
35:21Appreciate it.
35:22I want to commend you on the idea of creating sort of 3D drapery.
35:26I think that's a cool concept, but I think the fabric choice distracts from your vision.
35:33Some of you know my work tends to be more fluid.
35:36I know that this was sort of a harder, texturally kind of challenge, and it was architecture.
35:41But if I were to show my work in a collection, it would be fluid fabrics that, you know, just exude emotion.
35:48One of the asks that we've had for you is that you push yourself.
35:52And I really do want to commend you for having done that.
35:56Because I think this was an uncomfortable place for you to be in.
35:58And while it's not being received overly positively, as a designer, you have to take that in and have solace and understand and know that at least you pushed yourself.
36:08I appreciate you recognizing that, so thank you.
36:10Thank you so much, Rami.
36:12Leave the runway.
36:13Bishmi, you're next.
36:15Let's get your model out here.
36:20All right, so tell us about your look.
36:22Tell us about your inspiration.
36:23I'm really big on reflection.
36:25So when we visited the summit on the 91st floor, I immediately loved the balloon room.
36:31I also was wondering what it would look like to see the water at night reflecting the buildings.
36:36What is holding the disc together?
36:39I made a peace sign out of wire so that once she has it on, it can hold it and balance it.
36:44I'm obsessed with this hat.
36:46I think you taking that and making it fashion is beautiful.
36:51So beautiful.
36:53I'm so proud of the hat.
36:54I don't think that it feels so new.
36:56I've seen...
36:57A hundred percent.
36:58Yeah.
36:59So there is a lot of mixtures of things we've seen before, but I think it was really a great look.
37:03Bishmi, the color choice was really what I loved the most.
37:09It is purple, but it could be black.
37:12It feels liquid, but it's hard.
37:15It's extremely editorial.
37:18You always deliver that.
37:19Thank you so much.
37:20I'm curious about this shoot.
37:22Is it a real show or is it just like a cover on a show?
37:26I just think that's so clever in a way to kind of, you know, bring the look together.
37:32That's a red carpet look for sure.
37:33I struggled a bit with the fact that it was so referential.
37:38What saved it though was the hat.
37:41Had the hat not been there, I think we would be, for me personally, in a different place.
37:48Thank you so much, Bishmi.
37:49Jessica, you can leave the runway.
37:51Ladies first.
37:52All right, Brittany, let's get your model out here.
37:56Brittany, tell us about your look, your trip to the summit.
37:59The summit, honestly, was so surreal.
38:02So I wanted to use kind of like a reflective fabric, which in the workroom, the whole thing from head to toe is like rainbow every color.
38:11I wanted to play with like working from bigger volume to smaller volume, whether it's like cinching in.
38:18So you went home on the avant-garde challenge on your season, right?
38:21I did.
38:22Womp womp.
38:23I think it's really cool.
38:24I think this would be really great on an album cover and people will want to be photographed in it.
38:30But I think when it comes to what the challenge was, it's a mess for me.
38:36Steven?
38:37It's cozy.
38:38It has proportion.
38:39Maybe it's avant-garde with the crazy sleeves, but I do agree it's a missed challenge with not really seeing the architectural influence there.
38:50There's so much that you did so right here.
38:52This is avant-garde meets active wear.
38:55Yes.
38:56Like I want to be that girl, you know, and you don't always get that with avant-garde.
39:00Brittany, I could tell more or less what everybody was inspired by, except for you.
39:06And I'm disappointed.
39:07I think you are a lover of fashion.
39:10I think you're a lover of very current fashion.
39:12I think that that's something that does inspire you.
39:14I think you fall back on that sometimes.
39:16I think that you really, if you were to move forward, have to free yourself of that.
39:21Thank you, Brittany.
39:23Shanae, you can leave the runway.
39:24I'm back.
39:25All right.
39:26Laurence, let's bring your model out.
39:32Tell us about your trip to the summit.
39:34Tell us how it was, what inspired you.
39:36It was beautiful.
39:37I mean, it got us when, I mean, it got me when I was just in the elevators.
39:40Tell us about the construction.
39:42I'm guessing it's leather.
39:44Not all of it.
39:45It's vinyl, too.
39:46Oh, well, tell us now.
39:47We're interested to know.
39:48This is vinyl.
39:49This is leather.
39:50This is a mix of the two.
39:51This is vinyl and this is leather.
39:53I think it's great.
39:54The top is like the ultimate avant-garde biker jacket.
39:58Buildings are a mixture of materials and different elements.
40:02You did a great job.
40:04I feel like this is Laurence 2.0.
40:06I love it.
40:07I don't think I've ever seen you smile so much on the runway.
40:10That makes me very happy to see.
40:12To be inspired by architecture, I think you nailed that.
40:15If this became something that one of my clients would want to wear on a specific carpet or
40:19on a shoe, if we lost the shoulder, this would be a really pretty dress.
40:23You can remove the shoulders, actually.
40:24They can remove?
40:25Oh, let's see.
40:26Oh, let's see without it.
40:27That's great.
40:28Oh.
40:29That's absolutely great.
40:31Thank you very much.
40:32You really delivered.
40:33And I think you were very smart to use everything that you're good at.
40:37Thank you, Laurence.
40:38You're welcome.
40:40Mimi, you can leave the runway.
40:42Thank you so much for tonight.
40:44As you know, we need to talk.
40:46We will call you back when we're ready.
40:49Congratulations.
40:50Congratulations, everyone.
40:51Good work.
40:52It's so nice to meet you.
40:54Only three of these designers can move on to make a collection in the finale.
40:58So let's talk about who we think we should put forward.
41:01I think Bhishmi's look and body of work has earned him a spot in the finale.
41:06I think Bhishmi understood the assignment and hit a home run.
41:10It was polished and it was runway or red carpet ready for sure.
41:14So I think he did an amazing job.
41:16I thought it was a beautiful dress.
41:19To be able to get those stitches in that type of fabric really shows that he's a technician.
41:24And that needs to be celebrated.
41:26When I look at Bhishmi's work, for better or for worse, he really always does address the challenge.
41:33I'm really happy that he's arrived to this point while also playing by the rules.
41:37And that really excites me.
41:38I mean, yes, he gives us referential like he did today with Mugler.
41:43But he's commercial, yet he is original.
41:47And I think he deserves to move on.
41:50I also think that Laurence deserves to stay in this competition.
41:55The precision of her work is undeniable.
41:58I will say tonight there was something slightly costumey about what she gave us.
42:03But I did like that there was a versatility to the look.
42:06Her look was one of my favorite looks.
42:08You can tell there's this internal like passion and commitment to the craft of designing.
42:14Buildings are about shape.
42:15She had the rectangle, the triangle, the circle.
42:18I agree that Laurence is extremely talented.
42:23I just want her to have a little more fun, a little more freedom and be less measured.
42:29She's so like...
42:30But I think it's important to let your clothes do the talking.
42:34And that leaves Brittany and Rami vying for the final spot.
42:39Brittany gave us a fully finished look that was successful.
42:44Yeah.
42:45That was a good jacket.
42:46And that was a cute look.
42:47But in the last few, she has been extremely referential.
42:52And for me, that is a problem.
42:55I agree.
42:56And you want to protect originality.
42:58Correct.
42:59And you want people to be inspired by whatever they're living or seeing.
43:02Rami had major construction issues, which was sad because he is so poetic.
43:08And he kept talking about the seams.
43:10I was just like, stop saying it because that is the most devastating part of the whole garment.
43:14I think that their job is to show us an undeniable look that's going to inspire us.
43:20And Rami's look just fell short compared to all of his other competitors.
43:25But he went out on a limb to give you something that was out of his comfort zone.
43:30What are we here for, but if not, to see original designs?
43:36They're both actually incredible at what they do for their respective fields.
43:40Brittany said, I'm going to do what I'm good at.
43:42And I think it was a great garment.
43:44So who's going to deliver the best runway that could get them to win?
43:50Okay, so you know our final three?
43:53Yeah.
43:54Yeah.
43:55Yeah.
43:56Yeah.
43:57Designers, you should know that we truly believe in each and every one of you.
44:11And we can't wait to see what your future holds.
44:15But in the end, only three of you can move on to the finale.
44:24Bishmi, congratulations.
44:28You are the winner of this challenge.
44:32Thank you, Elaine.
44:33Thank you so much.
44:35How's it feel, Bishmi?
44:36It feels great, but I'm just ready to make this collection.
44:39So, thank you.
44:41My ideas never dry out.
44:43Like, I'm constantly creating and thinking of new things.
44:47Bishmi, we thought beyond being the best of the night, you really, as Steven put it so eloquently, understood the assignment.
44:55And I think that you have pretty consistently, across all the challenges, really understood the assignment and found a way to put your spin and your aesthetic on each one of the challenges.
45:05And so, I think that's really what set you apart tonight.
45:08Thank you, Brandon.
45:09There's two more spots in the finale.
45:15Laurence?
45:17Yes.
45:19You are also in.
45:22How does it feel?
45:23Feels super dope.
45:24I can't wait to create freely.
45:28Rami and Brittany.
45:31One of you will be able to make your dream collection.
45:35And one of you, unfortunately, will be out.
45:38You both truly are all stars.
45:43But we've made our decision.
45:49Brittany.
45:55You are in.
46:01You will be showing your collection in the finale.
46:06This is so emotional.
46:08Rami, unfortunately, I'm so sorry, but you are out.
46:12Thank you so much for the opportunity.
46:15It's been a pleasure working with you all.
46:18Rami, we're sad to see you go.
46:20We know no matter where you go, there's going to be beautiful work.
46:25Thank you so much.
46:26I'm proud of everything that I have done here.
46:28Even during my lowest points, I feel like I have still challenged myself.
46:33Congratulations to all of you.
46:35It's been a long journey.
46:37It's been a lot of hard work.
46:39Nobody wants to be in a position where they're about to be handed something,
46:42which is the opportunity of going to Fashion Week, and then it being slipped away from you.
46:47Congratulations.
46:49Thank you so much.
46:50Appreciate it.
46:51I've set an intention to challenge myself creatively, technically.
46:56Rami.
46:58Hi.
46:59I have no regrets.
47:01I think you are incredible.
47:03Amazing moments this season.
47:04Yeah.
47:05You pushed yourself.
47:06I feel proud of everything that I've done.
47:07I wouldn't change anything, honestly, in any other way.
47:09So I feel good about it.
47:10Okay.
47:11Okay.
47:12Love you.
47:13Thank you, Christian. Love you, too.
47:14Good luck with everything.
47:15Thank you. I appreciate it.
47:16Talk to you soon.
47:17Yes.
47:18Okay.
47:19Bye.
47:20Bye.
47:21I have had the honor to compete and to befriend and to become intimate with a lot of these people
47:25and learn about their stories and their backgrounds.
47:28It's an honor.
47:29And that's it.
47:30That's all I'm going to say.
47:31That's it.
47:33Next, on Project Runway All Stars.
47:35Final three.
47:38Welcome to the Project Runway season 20 finale.
47:42Woo!
47:43It's the finale.
47:44We're doing it.
47:45Is it fun?
47:46Oh, my goodness.
47:47Day seven.
47:48I'm starting to feel the nerves.
47:49Come on.
47:50This is overwhelming.
47:53Can we give it up for our guest judges?
47:55That's posing.
47:56Billy Porter.
47:57The winner of Project Runway is...
48:02Um.
48:03Yeah.
48:04Yeah.
48:05You.
48:06Oh, my God.
48:07But this is my favorite writer.
48:08I'm going to give it none of your friends will have to praise.
48:11Right.
48:12Just let him build thisout for too much.
48:13It was in a cage with me.
48:15My strength is out.
48:16It's my perfect compromise for me.
48:17So let me give it all for me.
48:18Please!
48:19And let me help.
48:20It's just improving this experience for me.
48:21You know.
48:22Oh, my God.
48:24This does everything lot.
