05:25So majority of my 90s references came from my sister.
05:30I learned everything I know from her.
05:33My inspiration is a backup dancer for all the 90s hip-hop videos.
05:39And I want to make a jacket that showcases her coolness and pairing it with a skirt.
05:45So in my season, we did two teams of five as well.
05:47And the other team used all the same fabrics and they did all different looks.

32:43Our girl is a video hip-hop background dancer for Lil' Kim, TLC.
32:48Did you always know it would be in this off-the-shoulder jacket and skirt?
32:52My favorite thing on a woman, even though I'm gay, but my favorite thing on a woman is her collarbone.
32:57This was the first look that came out.
32:59It really set the tone.
33:01The styling was fantastic and had such a joy and a spirit to it and attitude.

33:08There was so much sass involved in the way you did the bottom of the skirt.

33:44You know, I learned from the master, the queen of leather, 43.
33:47It's for the 43rd president of Haiti who was assassinated.
33:50Kind of like my way of keeping awareness on that.
33:53And then, of course, there's always a print with me.
33:55You embodied everything we love about the 90s.
33:58You killed it.
33:59Like, you gave it this runway edge by adding these little pockets.
34:03The trapper keepers.
34:04It's streetwear.
34:05It's street style.
34:06It's like, it's supposed to be a little bit off.
34:09This look really solidified your cohesive collection.

34:15That is one very beautifully made jacket.
34:20I do not agree with Elaine about the pockets because I found them distracting.

35:01I'm able to really enjoy this more now that we're in like this contained space.
35:12As soon as you guys started coming running down the hallway screaming, beating the lockers,
35:16that really sent me to a place like, don't want to be here 18 years ago, don't want to be here now.
35:20Okay, Laurence, tell us about your experience.
35:24When we started, we discussed the music that we loved in the 90s.
35:28So I chose to channel TLC and Madonna.
35:33I appreciated the Madonna blonde ambition nod there.
35:37The platform docks, the ball, the bucket hat.
35:40It all just creates this bad bitch vibe and it's so good.
35:46I'm actually very much in awe in the amount of time that you had that you were able to do this.
35:52It's damn near perfect.
35:55From an editor's perspective, it could walk down a runway.
35:59It could be a wonderful editorial picture.
36:03Yet all of this doesn't scream retro.
36:06It screams future.

36:11Okay, now moving on to the red team, the losing team tonight.
36:15It felt chaotic, honestly, and nobody was on the same page ever.

36:27Kane, what do you think could have put you on the bottom in retrospect?
36:32So, I mean, I think it's just the other team did a really fantastic job.
36:38We loved a little bit more of the darker side of high school.
36:41I thought Karisan knocked it out of the park and helped take the lead as our, you know, fashion godmother.
36:47And we all agreed, let's go with more of the bad girl.
36:50I wanted the corset to be the star because her voluptuous, gorgeous shape is beautiful.
36:54I am wearing a corset as well, as you can see, so I know you're in pain.
36:58She told me she wanted to be snatched, so...
37:01It's just such a great fit.
37:03I wasn't sure, though, about the combination of the plaids.
37:06I was, like, excited to see the flannel tied around the waist, but then she turned around and there was no shirt in the back.
37:13The cape, I don't know what to call this, it just didn't come together for me.
37:16I am tried and true an evening wear designer.
37:19So, for me, it's a stretch.
37:20You know, I remember the 90s, but I was 315 pounds wearing thrift store clothes and, like, grew up really poor.
37:28So, I wasn't the cool kid like a lot of my group.
37:31I love your story.
37:32Listen, I have ingested a lifetime of Dippin' Dots all through growing up in my little penny loafers.
37:40And I was thinking about this as you were talking.
37:42I once had a bad girl phase for about three months and I did a collection that was based on that.
37:47And every time I'm challenged with looking back at that collection, I have to close my eyes.
37:51I think that you were trying to fit a square into a circle.

38:06All right, Brittany, tell us about the choice to go left on the plaid of everybody else.
38:11I wanted something a little bit more, like, edgy.
38:14And I think that doing this full, like, head to toe in plaid would have been a lot.
38:18The corset was damn near perfect last night.
38:21But, you know.
38:22Started to bubble.
38:23Did come totally unbonded right here.
38:25Wait, so is that leather?
38:26It's faux leather.
38:27The leather is just, it's giving me Halloween costume.
38:29Yeah.
38:30And ultimately, it didn't feel cohesive.
38:34Why was the blue team able to afford leather and you all felt like you couldn't afford it?
38:39We also chose lace and lace is a very expensive yardage.
38:43So it's either the lace or the real leather.

39:18I really thought of Angelina Jolie in Hackers.
39:22That is my favorite movie of all time.
39:24And I felt like that's the high school that I wanted to go to because everyone was just so fresh and forward and creative and just outcast.
39:31I'm not really getting a rebel and an outcast.
39:35I was getting Tommy Hilfiger slash Ralph Lauren.
39:39It almost felt a little safe, Fabio.
39:42Yeah.
39:43You know what I mean?
39:44No, I don't, Nina.
39:45Well, I'm telling you, it felt safe.
39:47I love it.
39:50That jacket is so inventive and creative from the neckline to the little zipper.
39:55I quite liked the whole thing.
39:58I hear, Nina, like while I didn't totally get it, now that you're explaining this raver cyberpunk inspiration, I do see that.

41:16Laurence's look held my attention the entire time on the runway.

41:48From a design perspective, when you step back, it didn't work.
